NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF.—NBA League Pass subscribers will get court side seats from the comfort of their own home this season with the announcement that NBA Digital and NextVR will produce 27 live games in virtual reality for the 2017-2018 season and the introduction of its new Screening Room product. The VR schedule will feature all 30 teams and start off with a free preview for a game between the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets.

LAGUNA BEACH, CALIF.—Fox Sports and NextVR are heading to the pitch, as the two have announced they will team on a live virtual reality broadcast of the opening match of the 2016/2017 Bundesliga season. The match will be played by Bayern München and Werder Bremen in Munich on Aug. 26.

Seven cameras will be placed throughout the stadium and field for the VR production, as well as audio commentary from Fox Sports soccer commentator Mark Rogondino and Bundesliga player Heath Pearce. Viewers can watch the VR broadcast for free in the Fox Sports portal of the NextVR platform that is compatible with Gear VR headsets.

Fox Sports and NextVR have previously collaborated on VR productions for other past sporting events, including the Daytona 500, a Premier Boxing Champions title fight, the Big East college basketball tournament, and the U.S. Open golf championship.

The match will be available internationally in the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean, Asia and select European countries, with a scheduled kick-off of 8:30 p.m. UCT.

LAGUNA BEACH, CALIF.—Fans not at Churchill Downs on Saturday, May 7, will have the chance to see the run for the roses in a whole new way, as NBC Sports has announced it is working with NextVR to provide a live 360-degree HD virtual-reality broadcast of the Kentucky Derby. This will mark the first live-VR broadcast for NBC Sports, which in addition to the main race will show VR footage from the paddock, owners’ suites and of the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic. The presentation will be available through the NBC Channel on the NextVR portal.

LAGUNA BEACH, CALIF.—After previously teaming up on virtual reality coverage of Premier Boxing Champions matches in January, Fox Sports and NextVR are announcing a new five-year deal to continue to develop and provide live virtual reality coverage of sporting events.

The two companies have testing virtual reality programming across multiple sports for more than a year, according to NextVR Executive Chairman Brad Allen. Including the boxing matches, Fox Sports previously worked with NextVR for virtual reality broadcasts of the 2015 Auto Club 400 NASCAR race and the 2015 U.S. Open Golf Championship. Future virtual reality programming on Fox Sports will be available on the NextVR portal, which will have a dedicated Fox Sports section.

One of those future broadcasts will include the 2016 Daytona 500. Virtual reality coverage of the race will provide HD virtual reality coverage of the starting line, infield and pit row. The live virtual stream will also include audio commentary and graphics on the race leaders. The 2016 Daytona 500 takes place Sunday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m.

Samsung Gear VR owners can access the NextVR portal by downloading the NextVR app on any Gear VR headset compatible phone.

The live action virtual reality broadcast technology provider and the broadcast network have teamed up to provide a live virtual reality broadcast of the Premier Boxing Championship fight.

Multiple NextVR cameras will be set up around the ring, including ringside, to capture the fight. The VR experience will also include fight commentary and graphics for the VR live stream. Samsung Gear VR owners can watch the fight for free through the NextVR portal by downloading the NextVR app. It can be accessed through any Gear VR headset compatible phones.

NextVR and Fox Sports previously collaborated on VR broadcasts of the Auto Club 400 NASCAR race and the 2015 United States Open Golf Championship.

The Premier Boxing Championship fight will take place on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. EST.
