BURLINGTON, MASS.—Avid has made a move to acquire the exclusive rights to develop and commercialize Nexidia’s media entertainment and technology systems, per an announcement from the company.

Under this new agreement, Nexidia products are now available from Avid, rebranded as Avid products. A couple of examples of this include the now named Avid Dialogue Search and Avid Illuminate, which also includes Avid Comply, Avid QC and Avid Align modules. These products will be integrated into Avid’s MediaCentral Platform.

Also as part of the deal, Nexidia’s product development team has joined Avid. The announcement says they are currently developing new versions of Avid PhraseFind and Avid ScriptSync.

Nexidia customers will soon have access to Avid’s customer support organization, but until then they can still contact Nexidia’s customer support team at mediasupport@nexidia.com.

ATLANTA—Telus Studios, which is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, recently installed the Nexidia Dialogue Search software as part of its migration to a new digital asset management system. The Nexidia software is designed to help users locate content in Telus’ content library.

Telus reuses footage from interviews and other video segments, which requires users to search for roughly 500 hours of new footage every year according to the studio. With Nexidia’s Dialogue Search, typing in a word or phrase into the intuitive interface will bring up every video in the DAM where that word is spoken.

Nexidia Dialogue Search continuously indexes the proxy storage in Telus’ DAM, backing up both the studio’s most recent assets and the metadata that enables users to find specific sound bites.

ATLANTA—Through technology supplier immixGroup, Nexidia’s Dialogue Search system is now available on the General Services Administration Schedule. The GSA Schedule allows for government agencies to incorporate Nexidia’s media search platform into their installations.

ATLANTA—Nexidia has announced that Tim Murphy has been hired to the role of senior director of product management for the media and entertainment business unit. Murphy’s main responsibility will be to lead product management for the Nexidia Illuminate and Nexidia Dialogue Search, as well as future product offerings.

Murphy joins Nexidia after four years with Evertz Microsystems as its director of file-based systems. Murphy also previously worked for Deluxe Entertainment and Ascent Media Group as senior director of product management and senior director of operations, respectively.

Based in North Carolina, Murphy will report to Drew Lanham, senior vice president and general manager of Nexidia Media & Entertainment.

BEAVERTON, ORE.—Tektronix and Nexidia have announced that they will team up to provide automated analysis of closed caption content to Tektronix’s Sentry video monitor suite using the Nexidia Comply software.

In its current model, Sentry can verify the technical elements of closed captions, like whether captions are present, appear at the right time or are properly placed. With Nexidia Comply software, Sentry will now have the ability to that the text in a closed caption is accurate with the spoken dialogue. This will make the Sentry compliant with FCC Title 47.

Nexidia Comply uses patented speech recognition technology to verify the validity of closed captions to the spoken word. No changes will be needed in workflow, monitoring or reporting processes with the integration to Sentry.

The Nexidia Comply software will be available in an upcoming release of Sentry.

BURLINGTON, MASS.—Volicon has added new media monitoring capabilities to its Observer Media Intelligence Platform by incorporating dialogue analysis technology from Nexidia. The new technology allows the Observer to review thousands of hours of content for a particular word or phrase, then providing users with access to videos of each instance.

The Observer MIP provides continuous or scheduled logging of broadcast content across multiple channels and then makes media available for review and clipping on a browser-based interface. Nexidia technology then allows the system to use phonemes to convert text to sounds and then recognize the sounds in the recorded media. According to Volicon, the Nexidia technology indexes audio up to 50 times the speed of speech-to-text software.
