WASHINGTON—Results of the 2021 NAB Television and Radio Board elections have been announced, which included Byron Allen, founder, chairman and CEO of Allen Media Group/Entertainment Studios, as a newly elected board member.

Allen was one of six individuals elected to the NAB TV Board, with the other five re-elected, as they are currently serving on the board. This includes Chris Ripley, president and CEO of Sinclair Broadcast Group; David Bradley, chairman and CEO of News-Press & Gazette Co.; David Hanna, president Lockwood Broadcasting; Chris Cornelius, vice president, Business Development, at Morgan Murphy Broadcasting; and Robert Hubbard, president/CEO, Hubbard Television Group, and vice president of Hubbard Broadcasting Inc.

In addition, the NAB Radio Board held elections for its odd-numbered districts. The elected board members include Allen Power (District 1 - New England), Collin Jones (District 3 - Pa.), Mike Tarter (District 5 - WVa., Ky.), David Hoxeng (District 7 - Fla., Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands), Nick Martin (District 9 - Ga., Ala.), Matt Mnich (District 11 - Ohio), Chris Ornelas (District 13 - Mich.), Bradford Caldwell (District 15 - Tenn., Ark.), Dana Withers (District 17 - Ill.), Roger Harris (District 19 - Okla., Northern Texas), Carolyn Becker (District 21 - Minn., N.D., S.D.) and Trila Bumstead (District 23 - Ore., Wash.).

David Bevins, COO of Connoisseur Media, was also appointed to a designated seat on the NAB Radio Board.

All elected board members will begin a two-year term in June 2021.

WASHINGTON—Emily Barr will continue as the NAB Television Board Chair, as the president and CEO of Graham Media Group was re-elected to the role during the virtual NAB Board of Directors meeting held earlier this week.

Joining Barr as part of the Executive Committee Board of Directors’s TV Board will be Ralph Oakley, president and CEO of Quincy Media Inc., as first vice chair; Perry Sook, president and CEO of Nexstar Media Group, as second vice chair; and Pat LaPlatney, president and co-CEO at Gray Television, was tapped as the third vice chair.

In addition, Margaret Tobey, senior vice president of Regulatory Affairs at NBCUniversal, was appointed to the designated TV network seat on the Executive Committee.

WASHINGTON—NAB announced the results of its 2020 elections to the NAB Television and Radio Boards. 

Lynn Beall, executive vice president and chief operating officer, media operations, at Tegna is newly elected to the NAB TV Board.

TV board members returning for another term include: Patrick McCreery, president, Meredith Local Media Group; Ralph Oakley, president and CEO, Quincy Media; Jimmy Goodmon, president and COO, WRAL & Fox/Capitol Broadcasting Company; Bert Medina, president, WLPG-TV; and Louis Wall, president SagamoreHill Broadcasting.

Board members are elected to two-year terms that begin in June.

WASHINGTON—Chris Wood has been appointed to the NAB’s Television Board of Directors, effective immediately, as the Univision network board seat. Wood is taking over the role from Jessica Herrera-Flanigan, who recently left Univision for a position with Twitter.

Wood is the senior vice president and associate general counsel for Univision Communications. He is responsible for advising Univision business units in TV and radio on compliance with FCC, Federal Trade Commissions and Federal Election Commission regulations.

In addition to his work with Univision, Wood is chairman of the North American Broadcast Association’s Legal Committee, is a former chairman of the Federal Communications Bar Association Foundation as well as a former co-chair of FCBA’s Mass Media Practice Committee. He has also twice been a delegate of the World Intellectual Property Association’s Standing Committee on Copyrights in Geneva.

WASHINGTON—Due to the recent departure of Kevin Cuddihy from Univision Communications Inc., and in accordance with NAB by-laws, Jessica Herrera-Flanigan, UCI’s executive vice president of government relations and public policy, has been appointed to the NAB TV Board of Directors in Cuddihy’s place.

Herrera-Flanigan joined UCI this past June and has since overseen the company’s Washington operations. Prior to joining UCI she was a partner at Monument Policy Group. She also previously held positions as staff director and general counsel for the House Committee on Homeland Security; senior counsel at the computer crime & intellectual property section, criminal division, of the U.S. Department of Justice; special assistant U.S. attorney; and energy lawyer at Crowell & Morning LLP.

Herrera-Flanigan will assume the seat effective immediately.
