KAWASAKI, Japan—Media Links will showcase the latest updates to its IP transport solutions at the 2026 NAB Show, April 18-22 in Las Vegas.

A key focus will be Media Links’ Hitless Protection technology, designed to maintain continuous transport of media streams and data even when network conditions are less than ideal. By leveraging standards‑based approaches to redundancy and protection switching, the technology ensures that packet loss or network disruptions do not impact the integrity of live video, audio, or associated data services.

Media Links will also show the latest developments in its Xscend IP media gateway and transport platform. Built with software‑defined modularity and scalability in mind, Xscend supports a wide range of applications, from single‑site deployments to large‑scale, distributed production environments.

Recent enhancements to Xscend include expanded support for HEVC and AVC contribution workflows, delivering more efficient use of network bandwidth without compromising quality or latency.

Media Links’ will also discuss how its Xscend IP transport platform and ProMD EMS network management software are deployed across major live sports environments — from national football leagues in Europe and the Middle East to recent Winter Games workflows — and now support preparations for upcoming World Cup events.

During the 2026 Winter Games, the Xscend platform was used to aggregate and transport contribution feeds across a protected, high‑capacity network serving North American broadcasters, bringing together signals across a complex multi‑vendor ecosystem.

Media Links will also spotlight its role in supporting Video Assistant Referee (VAR) workflows, which use Xscend to transport multiple high‑resolution video feeds between stadiums and centralized officiating centers with ultra‑low latency, allowing referees to review plays in real time.

Whether enabling remote production or inter‑facility connectivity, Media Links says its combination of MDX switches, Xscend and MDP media gateways, and ProMD EMS network management software provides broadcasters and network operators “with a flexible foundation for building and managing IP‑based media networks with the performance and reliability required by today’s live production workflows.”

Media Links will be in Booth W2033 of the West Hall of the LVCC.

KAWASAKI, Japan—Media Links will launch its Xscend IP media platform at the 2023 NAB Show, April 15-19, in Las Vegas.

Xscend is designed for the network edge and serves as a reconfigurable, versatile IP media migration gateway. The new platform can transport up to 128 high-quality media and data services across both managed and unmanaged (open internet) networks, the company said.

The platform is built with an adaptable, media-tuned architecture that supports software-defined upgrades. In that way, it can accommodate evolving network protocols, user workflows, physical interfaces, codec algorithms and video formats, it said.

Xscend’s hardware modularity, software upgradeability and license configurability mean flexible workflows can be adapted to support a wide variety of use cases—in particular the proliferation of content requirements in sports production, it said.

“Application flexibility is clearly the hallmark of Xscend’s new generation design, delivering a variety of capabilities in a compact 2RU footprint,” said Media Links CMO John Dale.

“The platform addresses the migration from SDI-to-IP as well as conversion from IP-to-IP environments along with high density, low latency remote/distributed production applications, including ground-to-cloud connectivity. Additionally, Xscend complements and is compatible with Media Links’ existing solution portfolio, providing an even more comprehensive IP media ecosystem.”

The combination of modularity, density, breadth of media and network interfaces as well as configurability are among Xscend’s most notable qualities. It is capable of transporting contribution quality services, including 4K UHD video along with 25Gbps hitless data across 100Gbps network trunks, it said.

Xscend supports SMPTE ST 2022-2/6, ST 2110-20/30/40, JPEG2000, JPEG-XS and VSF TR-01/07/08 and can support future recommendations. The solution ensures media exchange interoperability and provides users with an IP media platform that supports today’s and tomorrow’s requirements, it said.

See Media Links at NAB Show booth W1421.

More information is available on the company’s website.

KAWASAKI, Japan—Media Links, manufacturer and pioneer in Media over IP transport technology, has announced its new MetroXPRESS IP over fiber system solution for transporting multimedia services across metropolitan wide area networks.

The company will be showing MetroXPRESS at the 2022 NAB Show on booth W3922.

Designed for Broadcasters, Service Providers and Content Rights Holders who have access to, or own fiber connectivity, MetroXPRESS is intended as a replacement for legacy point-to-point SD/HD video transport over dark fiber networks in local or metropolitan or regional areas.

The company said that the core value proposition of MetroXPRESS is to more simply and cost effectively accommodate new differentiated IP-based media services while optimizing the efficiency of and visibility into overall network operation and performance. The solution also lowers the total cost of ownership over the life of the investment.

“For service providers to offer competitive media over IP transport services to their customers, they require an agile IP over fiber network infrastructure that can be adapted and scaled as technology and media distribution needs quickly change,” comments Al Nuñez, president of Media Links Inc. “For example, traditional metropolitan distribution content models are typically nailed up for long time periods, which do not support flexibility or scalability when customers need to launch new services such as 4K UHD, hitless (i.e. uninterrupted and dropout free) media transfers, or low latency JPEG-XS compression for remote production applications. Further, they often are unmanaged with no real visibility into overall network assurance and performance. MetroXPRESS solves these such challenges.”

The MetroXPRESS solution provides real-time, low latency delivery of media (video, audio and data) from the content source to multiple destinations and back again. It includes an integrated, self-contained portfolio of edge, core and network management components necessary to directly connect to native IP networks on a fiber infrastructure for wide area media content delivery.

A typical package consists of the Media Links MD8000 platform, MDP3000 Series IP media Gateways, MDX aggregation/core switches, and ProMD EMS network management software. These products are known for their robust reliability, stability in mission-critical environments and overall flexibility.

It is designed to accommodate today’s existing SDI-based infrastructure with the ability to gracefully transition to a more versatile, flexible IP environment with evolving media resolutions, encoding and encapsulation formats.

Media Links has created MetroXPRESS to provide an adaptable, scalable, and managed media over IP transport solution addressing SD all the way to UHD video and beyond while also supporting data services up to 100Gbps across a robust, resilient fiber-based IP architecture.

The solution allows for remote set up and tear down, provides real-time equipment & service quality assurance, and can be securely accessed and serviced from office and field (or home) locations.

Complementing the turnkey MetroXPRESS solution, is the full suite of comprehensive Media Links Professional Services, including design, staging, turn-up, training, and ongoing field support.

KAWASAKI, Japan—Media Links has debuted its MDP3020 MAX platform, a high-quality, standalone edge device with configuration support for JPEG-XS compression.

The MDP3020 MAX encodes and decodes video, audio and data content for carriage over wide area IP networks. It is designed primarily for use in live remote production environments where economical, highest contribution quality IP media conversion and transport robustness are essential, the company said.

The product can be configured to support four 1080p video channels using JPEG-XS compression, which can reduce bandwidth by ratios of up to 10:1, support visually lossless quality and sub-millisecond latency, the company said.

It also supports JPEG2000 compression, which is well-suited for the edge of an IP WAN network where bandwidth is typically constrained, it said.

The MDP3020 MAX is compact and portable, housed in a half-1RU footprint. Dual 1GbE or 10GbE trunk interfaces supporting ST 2022-7 Seamless Protection Switching as well as frame synchronization are standard, as is dual “hitless” 1G/10G data ports, the company said.

More information is available on the company’s website.

MONT-SAINT-GUIBERT, Belgium—Media Links is including JPEG-XS compression in its MDP3020 IP media gateway, intoPIX announced this week.

“Media Links brings deep engineering, system integration and wide-area-network connectivity expertise to deliver a new IP media experience with the world’s best low-latency visually lossless lightweight codec,” said Jean-Baptiste Lorent, director marketing and sales at intoPIX.

JPEG-XS, which can deliver high-quality compression ratios of up to 10:1, is well-suited for the edge of IP networks where bandwidth typically is limited and transport of uncompressed video is not possible.

JPEG-XS (ISO/IEC 21122) provides visually lossless quality with sub-millisecond (<1 video frame) delay. It is especially designed for latency-critical applications, such as live remote event production over wide area networks.

“We are proud of our continuous relationship with intoPIX. They have co-created JPEG-XS and deliver now efficient FPGA IP-cores,” said Mark Podesla, senior manager at Media Links. “The technology is poised to unleash a new level of low-latency connectivity that will transform the way we make live remote production today.”

The Media Links MDP3020 provides video, audio and data transport to and from the fringes of the IP network.

More information is available on the Media Links and intoPix websites.

WINDSOR, CONN.—As a key component of Media Links’ integrated solutions, the new MDP3040 IP Media Gateway will be introduced to North America at NAB Show New York. Part of the MDP series of network edge devices, the MDP3040 is a multichannel 4K/UHD encoder/decoder with TICO lightweight compression supporting several configurations. The company says two 12G-SDI inputs can be TICO-encoded and transmitted over dual 10 GbE network trunk interfaces; or two TICO-encoded network streams can be simultaneously received and decoded as two 12G-SDI outputs. For delivering 4K/UHD signals over existing 3G-SDI infrastructures, the MDP3040 can function as a standalone two-channel 12G-SDI input to two-channel TICO compressed BNC output encoder, or as a two-channel TICO compressed BNC input to two-channel 12G-SDI output decoder.

At the core of Media Links common LAN/WAN architecture is its 100G switching solutions, which address the requirements of accelerated IP workflows essential for rapid network speeds and bandwidth demands. They deliver high port density enabling facilities to operate at any scale while reducing operational costs and infrastructure complexity. New services such as 4K UHD and remote/at home/distributed production can now be accommodated.

Hitless switching capability implemented across the Media Links portfolio provides network redundancy and media (video/audio and data) protection.

As a component of the Media Links soft-step IP migration toolkit and common LAN/WAN architecture, the ProMD EMS (Enhanced Management System) is a multi-user software-based application used to configure, provision, manage and troubleshoot small- to large-scale IP video and media transport networks.

Together, this family of solutions provides broadcasters with the ability to make a soft-step IP migration on a single multimedia service platform, all while using their existing SDI infrastructure.

Media Links will be at the show in booth N624.

[Want more information like this?
AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS–Media Links will show its new network management system NetGazer at IBC 2016 in Amsterdam.

With the goal of optimizing performance on high bandwidth multimedia services, NetGazer monitors and manages local and wide area IP networks and automatically switches signals to an alternative fiber path when a signal malfunction occurs.

John Smith, managing director, Media Links EMEA, says NetGazer is especially useful for live remote production over IP. “Cameras send signals from the venue over a fiber network back to base for production,” he said. “Any disruption in the contribution space would cause a major outage, that’s where NetGazer comes in.”

NetGazer provides topology maps displaying network elements across the LAN and WAN and integrates both software-defined networking and media defined networking platforms. From single studio environments to global networks, several editions of NetGazer are available for a variety of production environment scales.

To see NetGazer in person, visit Media Links booth at 1.C31. The IBC Show takes place at the RAI in Amsterdam, Sept. 8-13.

This stand-alone J2K decoder—the first in the new MDP3000 Series—offers advanced, pristine quality IP to J2K processing, exceeding the demands of high-end broadcast.

This compact, rugged device receives IP packets that contain a J2Kcompressed code stream through a 1GbE network interface and reproduces a video and audio signal from the received IP packets. Advanced capabilities include forward error correction, output signal correction, video ID and tally insertion, as well as video status monitoring.

As J2K usage continues to grow, broadcasters can implement it throughout their existing SDI/IP infrastructures without investing in new racks of equipment. J2K, which is known for its superior picture quality and compression performance, is well-suited to a variety of applications, including contribution, studio to studio media exchange, remote production and distribution via DTT, satellite, cable and IPTV head-ends.

The 2016 NAB Show takes place in Las Vegas, April 18-21.
LAS VEGAS—At the 2016 NAB Show, Media Links will debut products that revolutionize connectivity and content distribution within broadcast facilities and studios, and outside transport networks, remote productions and distance venues. By eliminating boundaries between local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs), the result is an integrated content transport network—or studio without limits—where all content can be controlled as if it were local.

The new products include the Cool Fire IP gateway, Net Gazer network management system, MX 4090 COTS-based IP video router, and MDP 3010 IP to J2K decoder.

The Cool Fire IP gateway enables the 3G, HD/SD-SDI, 4K and 8K standards to be encoded into an IP data stream using ultra low latency compression. It supports up to 64 video interfaces in a 3RU chassis with optional redundant power supplies and controllers, and incorporates SMPTE 2022-5/6/7 industry standards along with IEEE 1588 Precision Timing Protocol and simultaneous SDI/RTP delivery. Concurrent contribution (SMPTE 2022-6 w/PTP timing) and confidence (J2K TR-01) video feeds are also available to increase operational flexibility.

Net Gazer is a comprehensive software platform that provides monitoring and management—and graphically rich topology maps for intuitively displaying network elements—across LANs and WANs. With integrated Software Defined Networking and Media Defined Networking, Net Gazer optimizes performance of high bandwidth multimedia services, scaling from single studio to enterprise and global networks.

The 2016 NAB Show takes place in Las Vegas, April 18-21. Media Links will be in booth SU4721. For more information, visit www.nabshow.com.

Using IEEE 1588V2 Precision Time Protocol, IP Genlock is able to ensure sync over multiple points on the network.

“Following discussions at IBC we anticipate sports broadcasters will be particularly interested in this technology as it enables signals to be transmitted from numerous remote venues such as football stadiums or other sport facilities, over established telcos networks, with both hitless switching and zero data lass,” added Smith.

Smith indicates that Media Links is currently working with one major broadcaster on a new IP gateway.
