KAWASAKI, Japan—Media Links will showcase the latest updates to its IP transport solutions at the 2026 NAB Show, April 18-22 in Las Vegas.

A key focus will be Media Links’ Hitless Protection technology, designed to maintain continuous transport of media streams and data even when network conditions are less than ideal. KAWASAKI, Japan—Media Links will launch its Xscend IP media platform at the 2023 NAB Show, April 15-19, in Las Vegas.

Xscend is designed for the network edge and serves as a reconfigurable, versatile IP media migration gateway. The new platform can transport up to 128 high-quality media and data services across both managed and unmanaged (open internet) networks, the company said.

The platform is built with an adaptable, media-tuned architecture that supports software-defined upgrades. In that way, it can accommodate evolving network protocols, user workflows, physical interfaces, codec algorithms and video formats, it said.

Xscend’s hardware modularity, software upgradeability and license configurability mean flexible workflows can be adapted to support a wide variety of use cases—in particular the proliferation of content requirements in sports production, it said.

KAWASAKI, Japan—Media Links will highlight its 4K JPEG-XS version of the MDP3020 MAX IP Media Gateway at NAB New York 2022, Oct. 19-20, at the Javits Center.

Leveraging JPEG-XS’ high-quality image compression and ultra-low latency processing characteristics, the MDP3020 MAX is well-suited for live, remote production broadcast applications in which network edge bandwidths are typically constrained and time-sensitive, immediate interaction between the studio and venues is a necessity, Media Links said.

The MDP3020 MAX is a SMPTE standards-based gateway device designed to address the need for cost-effective, remotely configurable and protected 4K video-over-IP services at the network edge. The MDP3020 MAX processes up to two incoming 4K, 12G SDI video/audio streams by first applying JPEG-XS compression and then encapsulating this content into packets for transport over an IP network, it said.

KAWASAKI, Japan—Media Links has debuted its MDP3020 MAX platform, a high-quality, standalone edge device with configuration support for JPEG-XS compression.

The MDP3020 MAX encodes and decodes video, audio and data content for carriage over wide area IP networks. It is designed primarily for use in live remote production environments where economical, highest contribution quality IP media conversion and transport robustness are essential, the company said.

The product can be configured to support four 1080p video channels using JPEG-XS compression, which can reduce bandwidth by ratios of up to 10:1, support visually lossless quality and sub-millisecond latency, the company said.

It also supports JPEG2000 compression, which is well-suited for the edge of an IP WAN network where bandwidth is typically constrained, it said.

KAWASAKI, Japan—Tsukasa Sugawara is moving up from his previous position of CTO of Media Links to replace John Dale III as the company’s new CEO, effective April 1.

Sugawara had served as Media Links’ CTO since June 2014. WINDSOR, CONN.—As a key component of Media Links’ integrated solutions, the new MDP3040 IP Media Gateway will be introduced to North America at NAB Show New York. Part of the MDP series of network edge devices, the MDP3040 is a multichannel 4K/UHD encoder/decoder with TICO lightweight compression supporting several configurations. The company says two 12G-SDI inputs can be TICO-encoded and transmitted over dual 10 GbE network trunk interfaces; or two TICO-encoded network streams can be simultaneously received and decoded as two 12G-SDI outputs. KAWASAKI, JAPAN – Media Links announced the appointment of John Dale III, a longtime Media Links technologist, senior executive and board director, as its new chairman, CEO and president, effective April 1, 2017. Dale succeeds Takatsugu Ono, who will retire at the end of March 2017.

Dale will be responsible for navigating Media Links through its next phase of evolution as TV broadcasters, cable operators and global service providers continue their transition from digital video to IP networks and infrastructure. Media Links, with its flagship MD8000 transport solutions, are considered the innovative pioneers in this transition and are at the heart of many global sporting events, political conventions, and other high profile media events that have served to replace existing digital video networks with an IP infrastructure.

Dale’s career spans more than 30 years where he served most recently as chief marketing officer and member of the Media Links board of directors. He has held a number of executive and business development positions within the broadcast industry and Media Links, which he joined in 2005. He holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Dayton. Over the last 10-plus years, Dale has been the Media Links technology evangelist, where he planned and drove product strategies, development roadmaps and market launches.

Dale has been instrumental in driving the development of the IP for media through his involvement in various industry groups, most notably the Video Services Forum he is a director as well as co-chair of the High Bit Rate Audio Video and the J2K Activity Groups. His involvement in the Standardization and Productization of J2K Interoperability was recognized with a Technical & Engineering Emmy® Award presentation to Media Links.

KAWASAKI, JAPAN—In addition to exhibiting products at its booth, Media Links has announced that it will lead a presentation at the upcoming VidTrans 2017 conference on the SDI to IP transition.

John Dale, Media Links’ director and CMO, will present “SDI to IP Core Infrastructure Change Out,” which will address the opportunities and challenges that come with transitioning SDI networks to IP. Media Links says that it will include references from an international broadcaster in its report, but does not mention who.

In the exhibit hall, Media Links will demonstrate an advanced, wide area IP Media network that reflects the convergence and transport of broadcast signals onto a distributed IP switch fabric. The demo will feature Media Links products like the MDX 4090 IP router and the MD8000 platform, both of which are managed through Media Links’ Elemental Management System with touch panel control software.

VidTrans 2017 is scheduled to take place from Feb. 28-March 2.

LAS VEGAS—Media Links will launch the MDP3010 IP to JPEG2000 (J2K) decoder appliance at the 2016 NAB Show. This stand-alone J2K decoder—the first in the new MDP3000 Series—offers advanced, pristine quality IP to J2K processing, exceeding the demands of high-end broadcast.

This compact, rugged device receives IP packets that contain a J2Kcompressed code stream through a 1GbE network interface and reproduces a video and audio signal from the received IP packets. Advanced capabilities include forward error correction, output signal correction, video ID and tally insertion, as well as video status monitoring.

As J2K usage continues to grow, broadcasters can implement it throughout their existing SDI/IP infrastructures without investing in new racks of equipment. J2K, which is known for its superior picture quality and compression performance, is well-suited to a variety of applications, including contribution, studio to studio media exchange, remote production and distribution via DTT, satellite, cable and IPTV head-ends.

NEW YORK—When CCW 2015 kicks off in a couple of weeks, Media Global Links will be in attendance to showcase its latest IP transport products.

Media Links plans to demo 4K transport over IP with a live feed generated from a Hitachi UHD 4K camera. It will also have its new MDP3010 IP to JPEG decoder and transport systems for networks things like public Internet.

STANSTED, ENGLAND—Media Links EMEA has announced that it is working on the development of a new range of IP gateway systems for broadcasters. This new range will convert established broadcast signals for transport over IP across established internal and external networks.

The IP gateway systems from Media Links enable 3G/HDI/SDI broadcast signals to be encoded into an IP data stream, according to John Smith, head of Media Links. Using IEEE 1588V2 Precision Time Protocol, IP Genlock is able to ensure sync over multiple points on the network.

“Following discussions at IBC we anticipate sports broadcasters will be particularly interested in this technology as it enables signals to be transmitted from numerous remote venues such as football stadiums or other sport facilities, over established telcos networks, with both hitless switching and zero data lass,” added Smith.

Smith indicates that Media Links is currently working with one major broadcaster on a new IP gateway.
