NANJING, China—Magewell will showcase the latest addition to its Pro Convert product line and introduce a new family of Pro Convert devices during InfoComm 2025, June 11-13, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

Introduced at the 2025 NAB Show and making its InfoComm debut, the new Pro Convert IP to USB is a plug-and-play device that enables computers, including laptops, to capture an NDI, NDI HX or other streaming sources through a USB interface with no external power required, the company said.

It is well-suited for use in conference rooms, production studios and in environments where existing user software does not natively support NDI or other IP protocols as well as instances when the installation of additional software is not permitted, Magewell said.

The company will also preview its Pro Convert Xmit AIO, the first member of the Xmit family, at Infocomm. The streaming encoder/decoder is a standalone device that converts one channel of SDI or HDMI to or from NDI HX formats. For users who need a 4Kp60 NDI HX encoder, it offers a configurable encoding and decoding solution. The device is well-suited to many live production and ProAV installation applications on which NDI HX transport over 1 Gbps network infrastructures is employed, Magewell said.

Magewell has expanded its USB Capture product line with a new model that captures video sources up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second—the USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro.

The new model will be demonstrated at the 2024 NAB Show New York, taking place Oct. 9–10 at the Javits Center in New York City.

Magewell’s compact USB Capture devices enable computers including laptops to capture high-quality AV signals through a USB interface, with no additional power source required. The new USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro offers what the existing USB Capture HDMI 4K Plus model does, while leveraging 20 Gbps USB transfer performance on compatible host systems to enable the capture of 4K video at higher frame rates and color precision.

When used with a host computer that has a 20 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface, the USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro can capture HDMI inputs up to 4096x2160 (including 3840x2160 Ultra HD) at 60fps with 4:4:4 chroma fidelity. The device is also compatible with USB 3.2, USB 3.1 and USB 3.0 interfaces for capturing lower video signals (such as 1080p60 or 4K at 30fps 4:2:0 over 5 Gbps USB, or 4K at 60fps 4:2:0 with 10 Gbps USB), with the capture capabilities dependent on the host USB connectivity and operating system.

The USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro features driver-free setup and automatic input signal format detection for true plug-and-play operation, with support for Windows, Mac, Linux and Chrome operating systems. In addition to software compatibility through the UVC specification, an SDK is available for third-party developers to leverage the device’s features—such as the ability to capture 10-bit High Dynamic Range (HDR) signals—in their software.

The USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro supports embedded HDMI audio, plus an analog audio input and stereo headphone output. HDMI loop-through connectivity simultaneously sends the source signal to a monitor or projector without needing a splitter. Built-in FPGA-based video processing provides deinterlacing, up/down conversion and image controls while maximizing host system CPU availability for third-party software.

For users who wish to manually fine-tune the operation of the USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro, Magewell’s free USB Capture Utility software lets them configure capture parameters, upgrade the device’s firmware, view detailed status information and more. The newest version of the utility, which also supports earlier models in the USB Capture family, adds the ability to turn the device’s audio capabilities on or off—helpful when using it alongside other USB audio hardware—and to customize the name the device appears as in third-party software.

NANJING, China—Magewell will show its newly announced version 3.0 firmware upgrade with more than 50 enhancements for the Director Mini all-in-one production and streaming system at IBC 2024, Sept. 13-16, at the RAI Amsterdam Convention Center.

Magewell has added support for RTSP streams and HTML webpage sources to its lineup of inputs, which includes HDMI, USB, NDI, SRT, RTMP and mobile camera inputs. Version 3.0 can also use NDI High Bandwidth sources with alpha channel as motion overlays in Director Mini's graphics engine, it said.

Director Mini now includes the ability to encode its multi-view output, which consists of program output, preview output and multiple input sources, for recording, streaming or NDI distribution. Magewell has added support for captive portal authentication in shared Wi-Fi environments; USB tethering to use a smartphone's cellular data connectivity; and dozens of other fixes and enhancements, it said.

The company announced a price reduction to $1,099, effective immediately, for the Director Mini. Magewell said it will offer options to protect anyone who has purchased Director Mini within the 45 days preceding Aug. 13. Those who did should email Magewell or submit an online request.

NANJING, China—Magewell has introduced two new members of its Ultra Encode family of live media encoders designed for a variety of applications, ranging from live streaming and remote contribution to IP-based production and distribution. It has also announced that it will highlight them during ISE 2024, Jan. 30-Feb. 2, in Barcelona, Spain.

Available immediately through the company’s global network of authorized resellers, the new Ultra Encode HDMI Plus and Ultra Encode SDI Plus combine encoding and delivery flexibility with simultaneous multi-protocol streaming, file-based recording, NDI HX3 support, 4K encoding at 30fps, Power over Ethernet (PoE) support and advanced live production features.

"While our core Ultra Encode models and flagship Ultra Encode AIO continue to be immensely popular, some customers want the higher bitrates, expanded formats, recording capabilities and multi-protocol simultaneous streaming of Ultra Encode AIO but in a more compact, camera-mountable form factor," said James Liu, vice president of engineering at Magewell.  "The new Ultra Encode Plus models fit perfectly into the middle of the product line, meeting these needs and making the Ultra Encode family ideal for even more use cases."

The Ultra Encode HDMI Plus can encode at resolutions up to 4096x2160 at 30fps from its HDMI interface, while the Ultra Encode SDI Plus encodes up to 4K at 30fps from the device's 6G-SDI input. Both support multiple video encoding formats and technologies, including H.264, H.265 (HEVC), NDI HX2 and NDI HX3, as well as many streaming protocols, such as RTMP, RTMPS, SRT, RTSP, RTP, HLS and TVU's ISSP technology, the company said.

Video can be encoded at bitrates up to 32Mbps (62Mbps for NDI HX3), while up to eight channels of audio can be encoded in AAC format. Two concurrent encoding profiles with distinct combinations of resolution, frame rate and bitrate can be specified, it said.

Configurable presets enable easy streaming to YouTube Live (via RTMP or HLS), Facebook Live, Twitch, the Wowza Video platform (via RTMP or SRT) or custom targets. Ultra Encode Plus models can stream to up to six different target destinations simultaneously. It can stream concurrently in multiple protocols. Inputs also can be recorded as files on the device's internal storage, an external USB-connected drive or networked storage, it said.

The compact form factor of the Ultra Encode Plus enables camera mounting. Its metal chassis measures 4.2 inches square (106.6mm by 106.2mm) and is one inch (25mm) high. Integrated tally lights indicate program or preview usage of NDI HX outputs in live production environments. The devices offer loop-through connections as well as line-level analog audio input and output. They can be powered via PoE or the included power adapter. The encoders feature built-in Wi-Fi network connectivity and an RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet port, the company said.

The new encoders can be configured, monitored and controlled through an intuitive, browser-based web interface. Centralized remote management and control of multiple units is available through the Control Hub software. Manual control and scheduled streaming and recording are available through the web UI, while HTTP-based APIs are available for systems integrators and third-party developers to incorporate Ultra Encode Plus into their solutions, it said.

NEW YORK—Magewell’s Director Mini portable, all-in-one live production and streaming system combines multi-input switching, graphics, streaming, recording and monitoring in one compact device. The system enables a single operator to create visually compelling productions for live event coverage, remote production feeds and more.

In a press statement, the company said Director Mini offers a combination of input source flexibility and feature richness in a versatile form factor. Users can switch between two HDMI inputs and two USB AV inputs as well as three simultaneous live IP sources including SRT streams, RTMP streams or up to two NDI HX sources. File-based media assets including video, audio and images can also be combined with live sources. Embedded audio is supported on the HDMI and USB inputs alongside a 3.5mm analog audio input.

Director Mini’s user interface is accessed through its integrated 5.44-inch AMOLED touchscreen. Users can define multiple scenes that combine live HDMI, USB and audio inputs with network streams, media sources and graphics, then switch or transition between these scenes on the fly. Chroma keying enables the use of virtual backgrounds, while telestration enables real-time, on-screen drawing and combines with built-in scoreboard functionality to support sports productions. PTZ camera control is also available through the touchscreen, simplifying single-operator productions.

Director Mini’s touchscreen interface is complemented by the Director Utility app for iOS and Android devices, which provides remote configuration, audio controls, input switching, scoreboard control and more. NANJING, China—Magewell has unveiled a new model in its Eco Capture family of ultra-compact, power-efficient, M.2 video capture cards. The new single-channel Eco Capture AIO M.2 provides both HDMI and SDI interfaces with embedded audio support for flexible input connectivity, the company said. 

Magewell will highlight the Eco Capture AIO M.2 and other new innovations in booth C5031 at the 2023 NAB Show in Las Vegas from April 16 to 19.

Magewell's Eco Capture cards offer systems integrators and OEM developers a high-performance video capture solution with low power consumption in a space-efficient form factor. The cost-effective, low-latency devices feature a high-speed PCIe 2.0 bus interface with an M.2 connector and measure just 22x80mm (0.87x3.15in), making them ideal for incorporation into small, portable or embedded systems where full-sized PCIe slots are not available, the company said. 

The new Eco Capture AIO M.2 can capture one channel of video up to 2048x1080 at 60 frames per second over either its HDMI input or its 3G-SDI interface, with up to eight channels of embedded audio. The new offering joins five existing Eco Capture M.2 cards including single-input (HDMI or SDI) 4K models; dual-channel models that capture HD and 2K video over HDMI or SDI; and a quad-channel HD/2K model with SDI inputs.

NANJING, China—Magewell has launched the Pro Convert Audio DX multi-format IP audio encoder, decoder and capture device and will feature it at the 2023 NAB Show, April 15-19, in Las Vegas. 

The device, the company’s first to offer integrated support for Audinate Dante audio networking, enables users to convert audio between Dante, NDI and SRT transport technologies while also bridging analog audio, software and IP networks, the company said.

Pro Convert Audio DX can send and receive up to eight channels of audio in unicast or multicast Dante flows (audio streams). In addition to Dante, the device also supports uncompressed audio using the NDI media-over-IP technology or compressed AAC audio using the low-latency SRT protocol, it said.

With the ability to convert between Dante, NDI and SRT, the new device enables mixed-technology local and remote production workflows that combine best-of-breed products supporting different standards and formats. The Pro Convert Audio DX also can serve as a gateway to the IP domain for analog audio, encoding signals into Dante, NDI or SRT streams. NANJING, China—Magewell this week announced Magewell Cloud, multi-device management software that provides centralized configuration and control of multiple Magewell IP encoders and decoders as well as stream management features, such as protocol conversion and SRT gateway functionality.

“While Magewell streaming and IP conversion solutions all have their own intuitive user interfaces, customers with multiple Magewell devices or systems integrators supporting Magewell solutions across several end-user installations may wish to manage them all remotely from a single dashboard,” said James Liu, Magewell vice president of engineering. 

Magewell Cloud is currently undergoing beta testing, and the company is targeting later in the third quarter of the year for its release, Magewell said.

The free software offers integrators, administrators and IT staff easy configuration and management of multiple Magewell IP devices “across any number of sites through an intuitive, browser-based interface while also providing workflow-simplifying stream management functions,” said Liu. 

Magewell Cloud supports remote management of all current Magewell streaming and IP conversion hardware solutions, including the Ultra Stream family of live streaming and recording appliances, the Ultra Encode series of live media encoders and Pro Convert encoders and decoders, the company said.

Once registered to the Magewell Cloud, users can remotely configure device settings, monitor device status and trigger operational functions. Administrators can also group devices together and assign permissions for different devices or groups, it said.

Magewell Cloud simplifies one-to-many or many-to-many streaming with the Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) protocol by serving as an SRT gateway. SRT-capable Magewell devices and third-party SRT products can connect to Magewell Cloud rather than directly to each other, the company said.

This eliminates the need to allocate public, static IP addresses for each SRT device, as only the Magewell Cloud software installation needs to be accessible over the internet to enable SRT streaming between multiple endpoints, it said.

Many legacy encoders and decoders do not directly support SRT. However Magewell Cloud can convert streams bi-directionally between RTMP and SRT, allowing users to take advantage of the robust nature of SRT within their workflows while delivering broader compatibility, the company said.

Magewell Cloud is delivered as a Docker container, enabling deployment on Windows, Linux, and MacOS computing platforms with minimal configuration requirements. Users can run Magewell Cloud on their own private server or public cloud infrastructure, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure, it said.

Both models can encode and stream content up to 1080p60 at bitrates up to 16Mbps. The Ultra Encode HDMI also accepts 4K HDMI inputs, down-converting them to HD automatically. Embedded audio is complemented by analog, line-level audio input and output connections. Wi-Fi and an RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet port is available.

The Pro Convert 12G SDI Plus is a plug-and-play unit that ingests video up to 4K at 60 fps over a single-link, 12Gbps SDI interface and converts it to full NDI streams with low latency. This encoder supports up to 16 channels of embedded audio, while automatic input format detection and DHCP-based network configuration eliminate the need for manual setup. There is an SDI loop-through connection for input signals to be sent simultaneously to additional displays or equipment without external splitters or routers. Additional features include program and preview tally lights, protocol conversion for NDI control of non-NDI PTZ cameras and a standard 1/4-20-inch threat for camera mounting.

Both the Pro Convert for NDI to SDI and Pro Convert H.26X to SDI are decoders that convert input streams up to 2048x1080 at 60 fps for output via a 3Gbps SDI interface. The Pro Convert H.26x to SDI decodes H.264 or H.265 compressed video streams in streaming protocols that range from SRT, RTSP, RTMP, UDP, RTP and HLS. The Pro Convert for NDI to SDI, meanwhile, can decode all of those plus full-bandwidth NDI and high-efficiency, lower-bitrate NDI|HX streams.

The Pro Convert units decode NDI input streams for output to HDMI monitors, projectors, production or distribution equipment. The decoders support NDI, SRT, RTSP, RTMP, UDP, RTP and HTTP (HLS) streams with H.264 or H.265 compression.

The NDI|HX mode supports full-resolution, full frame-rate video delivery over wireless and limited-bandwidth networks. In addition to supporting NDI|HX, the Pro Convert decoders can also be configured for compatibility with earlier NDI|HX variants implemented in some PTZ cameras and accessories. Other NDI 4 features like Discovery Server support are being incorporated.

“With support for both full-bandwidth NDI and NDI|HX—as well as internet streaming protocols—our decoders are now compatible with the broadest range of NDI sources from PTZ cameras and switchers to NewTek’s NDI|HX apps for iOS mobile devices,” said James Liu, vice president of engineering at Magewell.

NANJING, China—Magewell has announced the sixth model in its Eco Capture line of M.2 video capture cards, the QL-SDI 4K M.2.

The Eco Capture QL-SDI 4K M.2 captures one channel of video—with embedded audio—up to 4096x2160 at 60 fps over quad-link, 3G-SDI connectivity. This allows for the capture card to provide input signal compatibility with older 4K source equipment, per Magewell.

Like other Magewell Eco Capture cards, the QL-SDI 4K M.2 features a high-speed PCIe 2.0 bus interface with an M.2 connector. It also supports up to eight channels of embedded audio per input.

Eco Capture cards are compatible with Windows and Linux operating systems and support OS-native APIs. NANJING, China—Magewell has announced expanded support for Macs with the launch of a new Software Development Kit for its PCI Express capture cards and plug-and-play, external capture devices. 

The new SDK allows third-party developers to directly access Magewell’s capture devices’ advanced capabilities in macOS and OS X software applications, per Magewell.

The SDK provides APIs based on the macOS AVFoundation framework for Magewell’s USB Capture Gen 2, USB Capture Plus and Pro Capture. Custom Magewell APIS for Pro Capture PCIe cards enable deeper control over capture parameters, access to ancillary metadata and lower latency for capturing video up to 4K at 60fps.

Magewell introduces a conversion product that the company says brings together the worlds of IP-based streaming and baseband AV presentation equipment seamlessly. The new Pro Convert H.26x to HDMI multi-protocol, SRT-compatible streaming media decoder decodes a standard H.264 (AVC) or H.265 (HEVC) compressed video stream into an HDMI output for connection to baseband monitors, projectors and switchers. The device is Magewell's first product to support the SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) open source protocol.

NANJING, China—Magewell has added support for Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) protocol streaming to its free Capture Express recording software with the beta release of Version 3.2. 

The software provides users with a lightweight, dedicated tool for recording, previewing or streaming input sources. Capture Express has evolved to become a full-fledged capture application supporting video up to 4K at 60 frames per second, the company said.

The latest version of Capture Express also adds new support for MPEG-TS over UDP or RTP in addition to SRT, an open-source protocol developed by Haivision. The SRT protocol offers secure, reliable transport of video over unpredictable IP networks with low-latency—even the public internet, the company said.

"The importance of streaming as a communication medium has been accentuated in recent weeks by the health crisis the world is facing," said James Liu, vice president of Engineering at Magewell.  "While we had planned all along to expand the streaming capabilities of Capture Express, the beta release of version 3.2 has become particularly timely given the increased demand for streaming today. Customers who previously used our capture devices primarily for internal production workflows may want to begin streaming to stay in touch with their followers, and Capture Express offers an efficient option for users who don't need the full functionality of a third-party encoding and streaming application."

The software detects compatible graphics hardware in the host computer and relies on GPU-accelerated H.264 encoding when possible. The computer’s CPU is used for encoding only as necessary, Magewell said.

Capture Express runs on the Windows operating system and is compatible with all current Magewell capture product lines and first-generation capture cards and boxes.

NANJING, China—Magewell today announced availability of its new Pro Capture Dual SDI 4K Plus video and audio capture card.

With support for multiple 4K SDI interface standards, the card offers versatility, performance and efficiency. Two channels of simultaneous 4K 60fps capture from single-link 12G-SDI are available, as are dual-link 6G-SDI and quad-link 3G-SDI, the company said.

The new card captures two channels of video at up to the 4096x2160 4K digital cinema specification. The 3840x2160 Ultra HD television standard is also supported, it said. Each input can be used at the same time with independent resolutions, frame rates, processing settings and SDI connectivity, Magewell said.

Input sources, such as video and embedded SDI audio, can be routed in parallel to multiple software applications.

The card’s on-board FPGA performs 10-bit video processing tasks, including up, down and cross conversion, image adjustment and graphic overlay without drawing on the processing power of the computer’s CPU, Magewell said. The card supports Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems and is compatible with a wide variety of software.

Multiple Pro Capture Dual SDI 4K Plus cards can be used in the same computer to boost the number of available channels, and the company makes available a software development kit for developers.

This new model converts SDI-connected HD or 2K input sources into NDI streams.

The Pro Convert SDI Plus joins the Pro Convert HDMI Plus, Pro Convert HDMI 4K Plus and Pro Convert SDI 4K Plus. The Pro Convert SDI Plus and Pro Convert HDMI Plus encode 3G-SDI or HDMI signals into full bandwidth NDI streams up to 1080p60 HD; the HDMI Plus model can also down convert 4Kp60 to HD for encoding.

Each of the 4K models for Pro Convert, meanwhile, natively support 4K inputs and encoding. The Pro Convert HDMI 4K Plus transforms sources up to 4K Ultra HD at 60 frames per second via an HDMI 2.0 input interface. The new Pro Convert HDMI Plus encodes HDMI source signals into full-bandwidth NDI streams up to 1080p60 HD. It can also accept a 4Kp60 HDMI input signal and downconvert it automatically to HD for encoding.

A third model is scheduled to ship in early 2019. Called the Pro Convert SDI 4K Plus, the new model converts 6G-SDI signals to 4K 30fps NDI streams.

All Pro Convert models are low latency and plug-and-play. They automatically detect the format of input signals and rely on DHCP-based network configuration, eliminating the need for manual setup. Greater control of the conversion process and device features is available through an intuitive browser-based interface. It provides access to status monitoring, advanced settings and FPGA-based video processing including up/down/cross-conversion, de-interlacing and image adjustments.

The Pro Convert SDI 4K Plus automatically detects input format and performs DHCP-based network configuration, making manual setup unnecessary, Magewell said. Once a video source is connected to the encoder, its signal is converted automatically at its native resolution and frame rate.

SDI loop-through enables the input signal to be sent to additional equipment simultaneously without the need for splitters or routers, thereby enabling users to establish an IP workflow without disrupting their existing traditional video infrastructures, the company said.

The new product has an intuitive browser-based interface, which provides access to status monitoring and advanced settings, giving users greater control over the conversion process.

Up/down/cross-conversion, de-interlacing and image adjustments are performed directly within the hardware.

The Pro Convert SDI 4K Plus offers a ¼-inch, 20 thread for use with standard camera-mounting accessories and preview and program tally lights to indicate when the NDI output stream is being use by another application.

Power can be supplied via Power over Ethernet (PoE) or the included power adapter.

LAS VEGAS — Magewell will unveil the Ultra Stream HDMI hardware-based streaming encoder at the 2018 NAB Show, making internet content production and sharing simpler, even for nontechnical users.

Ultra Stream HDMI lets users easily control the encoder to record or stream high-quality video, using intuitive, on-device buttons, or free apps for iOS, Android and tablet devices. The encoder can be configured within minutes using these smartphone apps, and network or Bluetooth connectivity, rather than a computer. Once security, encoding and destination parameters are set, recording and live streaming can be started and stopped using the unit’s physical buttons or virtual buttons in the app.

Users, such as church volunteers, teachers, gamers, corporate marketers, and live event organizers, can stream to services like Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook Live, or a custom-specified RTMP server. Ultra Stream HDMI captures, encodes and streams up to 1080p60 video via an HDMI input interface from sources like video cameras, Blu-ray players and game consoles. It also supports 4K HDMI inputs at 60fps with 4:2:0 color subsampling, and automatic HD downconverting for recording and streaming.

Pro Capture Dual SDI 4K Plus

The new Pro Capture 4K cards support video resolutions up to 4096x2160 at full 60fps over high-speed PCIe 3.0 x4 bus interfaces. In addition, multiple 4K Pro Capture cards can be used simultaneously in the same system to increase multi-channel capture density and provide support for Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems.

NEW YORK—Magewellwill launch the Flex I/O HDMI 4i2oat NAB Show New York. It’s the second card in the company's new Flex I/O family of PCI Express input/output cards. The Flex I/O SDI 4i2o, also on display, was announced at the spring NAB Show.

The Flex I/O models each feature four input channels and two outputs. All inputs and outputs can be used simultaneously with differing resolutions, frame rates and processing settings. Each input channel can also be routed to multiple software applications in parallel, enabling concurrent tasks such as live streaming, recording and playout, all from a single card.

The Flex I/O HDMI 4i2o features HDMI connectivity and supports HD and 2K video with up to eight channels of embedded audio per input or output. The Flex I/O SDI 4i2o captures and outputs video up to 2048x1080 over 3 Gbps SDI interfaces, plus up to 16 channels of embedded audio in each SDI signal. SDI input channels, as well as the two outputs, can be paired for dual-link SDI connectivity.

The Flex I/O series features 10-bit, FPGA-based video processing, providing up/down conversion, video adjustments, graphic overlay and more, while maximizing CPU availability for third-party software. Drivers for the Flex I/O cards will be available for Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems.

Pro Capture DVI 4K

NANJING, CHINA—Magewell Electronics Co. has announced a pair of new models for its Pro Capture family PCIe 2.0 capture devices as well as a beta version of a Mac OSX driver for all Pro Capture products. In addition, the company has announced that its Pro Capture PCIe 2.0 and USB capture devices are now compatible with NewTek’s open Network Device Interface (NDI).

The two new additions to the Pro Capture family — 4K AIO and the 4K AIO Plus — both utilize a standard Magewell Pro Capture driver, supports both HDMI and SDI interfaces and the BT.2020 standard, and are compatible with Magewell Pro Capture SDK.

The 4K AIO supports both HDMI 1.4 and 6G SDI at 4K30fps, and the 4K AIO Plus supports both HDMI 2.0 at 4K 60fps and 6G SDI at 4K 30fps. Both cards will begin shipping in May.

NDI compatibility will allow Magewell capture cards and USB devices to be recognized as a source by other NDI-enabled devices connected to a standard Ethernet LAN. Magewell capture cards with NDI compatibility can connect non-IP cameras to the network as well. Newtek NDI is available now as a royalty-free software developer kit.

The Magewell Mac OSX Driver is currently being beta tested and will be released in late April.
