OBERKOCHEN, Germany—Zeiss has announced the launch of CinCraft LensCore, a novel solution for creating physically based cinematic lens looks for visual effects and animation.

Built on the Virtual Lens Technology introduced at FMX in 2025, this new Nuke plugin brings decades of Zeiss optical expertise into post-production, bridging the gap between on-set lens choices and the VFX pipeline.

With CinCraft LensCore, Zeiss offers compositing artists a toolset dedicated to achieving cinema-grade lens looks grounded in the characteristics and physics of real lenses. At its core is a unique GPU-accelerated, ray-traced rendering engine for The Foundry Nuke that simulates authentic lens behavior across every pixel and every frame, while far exceeding the capabilities of available digital lens effects.

“With CinCraft LensCore, Zeiss brings the effects of real-world optics to a 2D compositing environment,” explains Egor Nikitin, head of digital cinematography at Zeiss. “LensCore speaks the same language as the lenses on set, from the way light falls off at the edges of the frame to the nuance of out-of-focus highlights. That fidelity is made possible by Zeiss’ history and deep understanding of optical science.”

CinCraft LensCore combines accuracy with efficiency. With one click, a complete digital lens look can be applied to a shot, with realistic bokeh, defocus, distortion, vignetting, and other optical effects characteristic of a specific physical lens. Through the digital lens shelf, artists can instantly load lens profiles of a real cinema lens or of one their own custom presets and compare looks in seconds. This fluidly replaces time-consuming manual setups with repeatable, production-ready workflows to easily maintain consistency across sequences and teams.

Beyond replicating existing optics, LensCore also enables artists to generate entirely new, never-before-seen lenses that still behave with the physics of authentic glass. Artists can start from physically accurate Zeiss or custom lens profiles and manually adjust every key lens characteristic, pushing the look as far as the project vision requires, while remaining grounded in believable optical performance.

Zeiss stressed that every feature is driven by real optical parameters—focus, T-stop, focal length, and focus distance—keeping lens behavior physically coherent across the full range of adjustments. A built-in inpaint feature intelligently fills occluded areas behind defocused objects, reducing the need for complex 3D setups and speeding up compositing workflows.

“As a former VFX supervisor, I know firsthand how much time gets spent trying to match a specific lens look in post, even when it was properly documented during the shoot,” adds Joern Grosshans, product manager digital cinematography at Zeiss. “LensCore addresses that need at the source. This advance offers artists a virtual shelf of lenses with accurate, predictable behavior, accessible the same way a DoP pulls a lens from a rental house–to be implemented with just a click. VALHALLA, NY—Fujifilm North America Corporation, Optical Devices Division has launched its new Fujinon LA30x7.8BRM 4K broadcast zoom lens (“LA30x7.8”), and will showcase it at the 2025 IBC Show, Sept. 12-15 at the RAI Amsterdam.

LA30x7.8 is a portable zoom lens for 2/3-inch sensor broadcast cameras. It boasts a highest-in-class 30x zoom, covering the focal range from 7.8mm-234mm and its compact (190mm), lightweight (1.7kg) design enables high mobility and versatility for production. When receiving auto focus commands from the camera, the lens shows minimal focus breathing and operates quietly, made possible by the rear focus mechanism design2. LA30x7.8 also features a newly developed drive unit with high resolution 16-bit encoders designed for extremely accurate position detection and control in virtual and remote production, helping to streamline production operations.

A newly developed drive unit for the LA30x7.8 features high resolution 16-bit encoders for extremely accurate position detection of zoom, focus and iris in virtual and remote production, which contributes to the streamlining of production operations. The lens achieves maximum speed of 1.0 sec and minimum speed of 120 sec when zooming from wide to tele end. This versatile range helps to capture a fast-moving subject during live sport broadcast, while enabling ultra-slow zooms during live music to deliver creative capture of the footage.

By utilizing the latest optical simulation technology and suppressing various types of aberrations, the lens achieves 4K optical performance across the entire zoom range. In addition, Fujifilm’s unique multi-layer coating "HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating)" boasts high light transmittance and accurate color reproduction.

A single button on the lens provides electronic flange back adjustment. The system provides faster and more efficient adjustment as compared to the manual process. The macro function allows for closer than M.O.D. focus up to 5cm from the front of the lens by sliding the unique focus ring forward. It enables the operator to film the extreme close-ups without letting go of their focusing hand. When receiving auto focus commands from the camera, the lens shows minimal focus breathing and quiet operation which is made possible by the rear focus mechanism design.

The Fujinon LA30x7.8 is available for order now at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $7,299. Initial orders of LA30x7.8 are expected to begin shipping to customers by the end of October 2025.

SAN DIEGO—Sony Electronics has launched the 400-800mm F6.3-8 G OSS (SEL400800G), its longest-range full-frame E-Mount lens to date, setting a new benchmark in focal length reach for the Sony mirrorless system, the company said. The Sony E-Mount lens lineup previously peaked at 600mm, but the 400-800mm F6.3-8 G OSS extends the focal length to 800mm for specialty shooting. DUBAI, United Arab Emirates—Canon Europe today unveiled the CJ27ex7.3B IASE T portable zoom lens for capturing 4K High Dynamic Range (HDR) image quality from wide angle to telephoto.

The new lens, which the company will unveil at the 2024 NAB Show in Las Vegas, April 13-17, features the Canon’s newly developed e-Xs V drive unit.

The new lens, which is compatible with 4K broadcast cameras equipped with 2/3-inch sensors, offers a 7.3-197mm focal length range and a 2.0x optical extender, the company said.

The CJ27ex7.3B IASE T delivers powerful magnification with a 27x optical zoom, ranging from 7.3mm wide angle to 197mm focal length at the telephoto end, making it a versatile option for capturing desired shots, it said.

Its built-in 2.0x extender unlocks the ability to double maximum reach to 394mm. The new lens ensures optical performance is standard across all shooting scenarios, it said.

From the center of the screen to the edges, the lens delivers high-quality 4K HDR performance. Advanced technologies, such as the multi-group zoom and floating focus system, ensure high-resolution imagery is captured, it said.

The lens’ e-Xs V drive unit offers three 20-pin connectors, a newly added USB-C port for various applications, including remote control and firmware updates, and a 16-bit encoder for precise lens data output, it said.

The drive unit enables greater precision for users and offers high speed zoom and improved iris responsiveness. Integrated focus breathing compensation promises consistently smooth shots by automatically correcting fluctuations (only applicable to UHDxs series lenses), the company said.

Weighing about 4.6 pounds (2.10kg), the compact lens and drive system is ergonomic and offers a high degree of maneuverability in multiple broadcast scenarios, it said.

MELVILLE, N.Y.—Canon has introduced the RF5.2mm f2.8 L Dual Fisheye lens, bringing stereoscopic 3D virtual reality (VR) capture to the EOS R5 camera as part of the EOS VR System.

The digital interchangeable dual fisheye lens is capable of shooting stereoscopic 3D 180-degree VR imagery with a single image sensor, streamlining the complexities of virtual reality production as well as the ability to view content in full capacity, the company said.

To enable viewing the content captured by this system in its truest form, use of compatible VR headset, such as the Oculus Quest 2, enables viewers to immerse themselves in the content by moving their heads, it said.

The new lens features high-quality L-series optics engineered with an interpupillary distance of 60mm for delivery of 3D imagery in VR with natural parallax, closely resembling human vision when viewed through a compatible headset, it said.

With a 190-degree field of view captured from two separate optical systems they deliver outstanding results for 180° VR viewing platforms. With subwavelength coating technology offering impressive flare control in backlit conditions, VR creators can have freedom to shoot regardless the time of day or position of the sun. The dual fisheye design provides versatile exposure control with a maximum aperture of a bright f/2.8 to a deep depth of field of f/16 with electronically controlled apertures allowing the dual fisheye lens to operate just like other RF mount lenses, it said.

Canon’s free Camera Connect app and Canon's EOS Utility program both will be updated in the future to offer remote control live view functionality for monitoring purposes while on-the-go, it said.

The EOS VR System’s workflow is based on recording left and right fisheye images to a single full-frame image sensor. This helps to solve common VR challenges of stitching and syncing, by outputting one single image file. Canon is currently developing two paid subscription-based software solutions as options for completing the post-production process, it said.

The EOS VR Utility will offer the ability to convert clips from dual fisheye image to equirectangular and make quick edits, as well as select the resolution and file format before export. With the EOS VR Plug-In for Adobe Premiere Pro, creators will be able to convert footage automatically to equirectangular and cut, color and add new dimension to stories with Adobe Creative Cloud apps, including Premiere Pro, it said.

Features of the new lens include:

• A close-focusing distance of 7.87-inches/0.2m is possible; max magnification is 0.03x.
• Aperture range of f/2.8 to f/16 with a 7-blade aperture and simultaneous electro-magnetic diaphragm for both left and right lenses.
• Built-in gelatin filter holder, which allows ND gel filters to be used in bright environments if a bright aperture is desired.
• Fluorine coating on the front lens elements, with a dust and water resistant design.
• Extremely compact size, allowing the lens to be used in different types of productions.

The RF5.2mm f2.8 L Dual Fisheye lens is scheduled for December availability and has an estimated retail price of $1,999.

TOKYO—Fujifilm has announced that it will release two new broadcast zoom lenses, the Fujinon HP66x15.2-ESM (HP66x15.2) and the Fujinon HP12x7.6ERD-S9 (HP12x7.6), which each feature optical technology to produce 8K UHD video.

The HP66x15.2 is a box type zoom lens that can reach a focal length of 1,000mm and a zoom magnification of 66x. The HP12x7.6, meanwhile, is a portable type zoom lens covering the focal length range from 7.6mm to 91mm in telephoto.

Both lenses, per Fujifilm, feature vivid color reproduction and strong contrast through Fujifilm’s HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating) mutlilayered coating technology to help produce HDR images. 

They also feature the new Remote Back Focus function, which enables adjusting the back focus remotely from a broadcast van. The lenses can be combined with the focus position demand unit Fujinon EPD-51A-D02/F03, which facilitates focus adjustment.

Additional features include a nine-blade iris that helps achieve a natural bokeh and a 16-bit encoder as standard, enabling high-resolution output of lens data and connection with systems like virtual studios for combining computer graphics with live video footage.

Both the HP66x15.2 and HP12x7.6 lens will be available starting in February.

MELVILLE, N.Y.—Canon has unveiled a pair of new products that focus on capturing high resolution content in the form of the EOS C70 4K digital cinema camera and the CJ20ex5B series of  4K UHD broadcast portable zoom lenses.

The EOS C70 is Canon’s first-ever RF mount cinema EOS camera designed with a small form-factor, weighing 2.6 lbs. It features a slim, motorized, 10-stop ND filter unit with 6mm depth that enables users to control the exposure while keeping the desired depth-of-field, per Canon. There are 13 customizable buttons that allow users to select from more than 80 functions that can be assigned based on personal preference.

EOS C70 features Canon’s Super 35mm DGO sensor, which extends the high dynamic range and lowers noise level by reading out two different gains for each photodiode. This results in an image with up to 16-plus stops of total dynamic range in up to 4K/60p or 2K/120p. It also has Canon’s DIGIC DV7 image processor to help create HDR images while offering choices between Canon Log 2 and 3, in addition to PQ and HLG gamma functionality. The C70 also can record 4K DCI or UHD up to 120fps and 2K DCI or Hd up to 180fps.

Additional features for the C70 include support for XF-AVC format or Long GOP 10-bit 4:2:2/4:2:0 MP4/HEVC with an MP4 file format. There’s also a new direct touch menu system, coordinated electronic image stabilization, two built-in Mini XLR inputs, time-code input/output terminal, custom picture processing, dual-SD card slots, built-in stereo mic and support for optional Canon RC-V100 remote control. The camera also works with the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R 0.71x optical adapter.

A new addition to Canon’s UHDx series of 4K UHD broadcast portable zoom lenses, the CJ20ex5B is designed to be used with broadcast cameras that have 2/3-inch sensors. The lens has a built-in 2x extender that can expand the zoom range up to 200mm, with Canon’s optical design technology and coatings helping to maintain high-level 4K UHD performance across the zoom range.

The CJ20ex5B lens features an improved inner focusing system for greater resolution in the periphery areas of the screen, per Canon. The lens also supports the wide color gamut approved by ITU-R BT.2020 UHD broadcasting standard. Additional features include a quick power-on button, an on-board display for rapid setting adjustments and the lens is compatible with Canon’s G-Series zoom and focus controllers.

LEICESTER, England—Cooke Optics’ S7/i Full Frame Plus prime lenses have joined the production of Netflix’s original series “Dead to Me,” starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini.

The goal in bringing in the Cooke Optics lenses was for the show to maintain its look from the first season, but for the lead actresses to have a “warmer” look on screen, according to Toby Oliver, ASC, the show’s cinematographer.

The S7/i lenses were used with Sony Venice cameras in 6K mode for production, using all of the full-frame sensor. Oliver’s kit had seven Cooke S7/i lenses, ranging from 25mm to 135mm (25mm, 32mm, 40mm, 50mm, 75mm, 100mm and 135mm).

“With the Cookes, I had more flexibility, but they also gave me an edge in making the actresses look good, while keeping the overall tone continuous from season one to season two,” said Oliver.

Additional benefits of the Cooke lenses, according to Oliver, was the ability to add a softness to shooting in 6K digital; different options when shooting in full-frame mode; and the ability to collect detailed lens data for reference and have it displayed on the monitor.

The second season of “Dead to Me” is available on Netflix now.

SYDNEY—Fujifilm’s new Fujinon LA16x8BRm 2/3-inch professional 4K lens fits like a glove with Blackmagic’s URSA Broadcast camera, as the company specifically designed the lightweight and compact lens for the Blackmagic camera to provide 4K and HD resolution.

With a rear focus mechanism design, the LA16x8BRM weighs in at 1.6kg. It features a single button electronic flange adjustment with a macro switch function, which allows for closer shooting than MOD up to 0.05 metres. The lens also has a focal length of 8-128mm and an F value of F1.9-2.8.

Ronkonkoma, NY – August 9, 2018 –Sigma Corporation of America, a leading still photo and cinema lens, camera, flash and accessory manufacturer, today announced availability of three of its interchangeable Art prime lenses for Sony E-mount camera systems – Sigma 14mm F1.8 DG HSM($1,599 USD), Sigma 70mm F2.8 DG MACRO ($569.00 USD) and Sigma 135mm F1.8 DG HSM($1,399 USD) – through authorized US retailers.

Offering the same high-performance optical design as other lenses in the Art line, the new Sony E-mount models feature a newly developed control algorithm that optimizes the autofocus drive and maximizes the data transmission speed. In addition, these lenses are compatible with Sony’s Continuous AF (AF-C) and high-speed autofocus, which are not addressed by Sigma Mount Converter MC-11. Like MC-11, the lenses are compatible with in-camera image stabilization and in-camera lens aberration correction, which includes corrections for peripheral illumination, chromatic aberrations and distortion.

Key Features and Benefits

Thanks to an autofocus drive control program tuned for each lens and high-speed data transmission, the lenses offer a high-speed autofocus at the same performance level as that of a lens designed exclusively for mirrorless cameras. In particular, in E-mount cameras offering Sony’s Fast Hybrid AF, AF-C mode delivers exceptional subject following performance. Autofocus remains extremely precise even in those E-mount cameras offering only contrast AF.

The lenses are compatible with in-camera image stabilization. The Sony E-mount camera senses the focal length of the lens and automatically optimizes image stabilization performance.

The lenses are fully compatible with in-camera aberration correction, which includes corrections for peripheral illumination, chromatic aberrations and distortion. By matching corrections to the
optical characteristics of the lens, this function takes image quality to an even higher level.

Making the mount native to the lens means a more rigid and stable feel to the lens. Featuring a special surface treatment to enhance strength, the brass bayonet mount offers a high-precision fit and exceptional durability. The mount connection area incorporates rubber sealing for dust- and splash-proof construction.

This service converts the mount of Sigma lenses to that of a different camera body, allowing photographers to continue using their favorite lenses over the long term regardless of camera system.

BOSTON—Talamas, a Boston-based sales and rental house, has purchased a Fujinon Cabrio 25-300mm cine lens, adding to its existing lens inventory, a Fujinon press release said today. The lens is likely to be used in broadcasting and cinema applications, including a cooking show, concerts and multi-cam scenarios in the former instance and for commercials, indie films and TV productions in the latter, the release said.

“The beauty of the Fujinon 25-300mm is that it offers a generous focal range and a lot of control for use in both studio and cine-style configurations,” said Dave Talamas, CEO of Talamas. For live broadcast productions, the lens’s detachable digital servo control is attractive, he added.

The Fujinon 25-300mm is a PL-mount lens with a high zoom ratio offering the versatility to cover a wide range of shooting environments, the release said. It covers the 31.5mm sensor size of digital cinema cameras and has an optional detachable servo drive for electric zooming, focusing and iris.

WAYNE, N.J.—The Optical Devices Division of Fujifilm has crafted a 220.5mm long, 1.98kg broadcast lens that is capable of supporting 4K production, the UA24x7.8. This new lens features 24x high magnification zoom and covers a focal length from 7.8mm to 187mm.

The UA24x provides advanced optical performance, with 4K compatibility, throughout the entire zoom range. It features Fujifilm’s High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating multi-layer coating for a high level of transmittance and color reproduction. The lens can also shoot in HDR.

With the addition of the UA24x7.8 lens, Fujinon’s Premier UA series of 4K 2/3-inch lenses now totals eight models.

Fujifilm plans to release the UA24x7.8 lens in January 2018, but it will first be shown during the upcoming IBC Show at booth 12.B20.

WAYNE, N.J.—The Optical Devices Division of Fujifilm is ready to roll out the latest in the MK series of cinema lenses, the Fujinon MK50-135mm T2.9 zoom lens. A companion lens to the MK18-55mm T2.9 zoom lens, the MK50-135mm has the same size and weight as the MK18-55mm, but features a focal length of 50-135mm.

The MK50-135mm weighs in at 2.16 pounds with front diameters of 85mm and lengths of 206mm. It offers a minimum object distance of 3.93 feet. All MK lenses are designed for E-mount cameras and require only one matte box and one filter size between lenses. Additional features include a macro function for a broader range of close-up shooting and gears for the three rings are positioned in the exact same place, eliminating the need to reposition accessories.

X mount versions of the MK lenses used in the Fujifilm X series digital cameras are being developed for launch by the end of the year.

Fujifilm is now offering the MK50-135mm lens for $3,999, with delivery slated to begin in mid-July.

WAYNE, N.J.—Boston production teams now have access to the Fujinon Premier PL 20-120mm Carbrio XK zoom lenses courtesy of rental house and reseller Talamas. The Boston-based operation will demo, rent and sell the lenses to clients for ENG-style video and cinema production.

The Cabrio XK weighs in at 2.9 kgs and features a T stop of T3.5 end-to-end, and a 20-120mm focal range. It also comes equipped with a detachable servo drive unit, for use as an ENG-style or PL lens. The Cabrio can cover a S35-sized sensor and is fitted with a nine-blade iris to capture imagery.

According to Fujinon’s press release, Talamas is the first company in New England to carry the Cabrio XK lens.

MELVILLE, N.Y.—Canon is expanding its 4K UHD lens business, as the company has announced its first studio zoom lens for 4K UHD broadcast, the UHD-DIGISUPER 27. The new addition to the 4K UHD broadcast lens lineup works with cameras employing 2/3-inch sensors and features the same body size as its HDTV DIGISUPER 27 predecessor.

The UHD-DIGISUPER 27 has a 6.5-180mm focal length range and features new glass materials and optical coatings that help lower chromatic and monochromatic aberrations. The lens’ color reproduction supports the standardized UHD wider color gamut. In addition, the lens employs a 2x extender to increase the zoom range for a 360mm focal length.

Canon is planning to release the UHD-DIGISUPER 27 in March 2017.

WAYNE, N.J.—After premiering its new 4K lens for UHD broadcasts at April’s 2016 NAB Show, Fujinon has announced that the UA107x8.4 has been put into rotation by Montreal-based production and rental house Video MTL, as well as its Toronto location, Dazmo Camera. The company purchased two 107xs, as well as a UA22x8 portable zoom lens for next generation 2/3-inch UHD cameras, and will use them as a standard feature in Video MTL and Dazmo Camera’s production trucks with Sony HDC4300 4K/HD cameras.

The 107x lens provides 4K optical quality across the entire zoom focal range, according to Fujinon. Engineered using Fujifilm’s optical simulation software, the lens has a multi-group zoom system that suppresses image distortion to keep images consistent. Meanwhile, the UA22x8 lens features a 22x zoom ratio and a focal length of 8mm in wide angle to 176mm in telephoto.

Thus far, the 107x lens has been used by production company La Grosse Fabrique for a Netflix France shoot of comedian Gad Elmaleh. A collaborative production between Le Groupe TVA, les Productions Déferlantes and La Voix Télévision also used the lens for “La Voix Junior.”

BURBANK, CALIF.—The ink is dry on a recent purchase by Bexel Global Broadcast Solutions of Canon equipment and lenses. The broadcast services provider announced the reported $2 million acquisition as it heads into summer expecting to take part in productions that include the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the Republican and Democratic National Conventions, and other entertainment events.

Bexel’s new gear includes Canon’s Digisuper 60, Digisuper 80 and the Digisuper 95 lenses, with the latter combining a wide focal length (8.6mm) with a 95x zoom range. The company also acquired the HJ18x28 high-definition EFP lens from Canon, which have the capability to extend 500mm focal length and are designed to work with the latest HDTV cameras. In addition, Bexel acquired a number of HJ24ex7.5B portable telephoto lenses with 24x zoom and HJ14ex4.3B lenses that offers a 96.3-degree angle of view.

The RNC and DNC will take place in July. The 2016 Summer Olympics will take place from Aug. 5-21.

MELVILLE, N.Y.—Canon has announced its new portable 4K broadcast lens designed for cameras with 2/3-inch sensors, the CJ20ex7.8B. The lens features a 20x zoom range and provides 4K optical performance. It is the fourth new lens this year to join Canon’s UHDx lineup.

Featuring a focal range of 7.8-15.6mm, a single lens can achieve a range of scene compositions. The lens also comes with a built-in 2x extender for more telephoto operation. Editors have the ability to select a 1920x1080 crop from within the original 3840x2160 full HDTV image. The 4K UHD video can also be down-sampled to an HDTV offering.

The CJ20 is compatible with standard HD zoom and focus demand controls. It weighs 4 pounds, 13 ounces. It also features a 20-pin connector to read out the position information of the zoom, focus and iris. Virtual operations are also possible in full-servo mode, as well as use of a 16-bit absolute value encoder.

Canon will release the CJ20ex7.8B in June 2016.

The 4K Premier PL 25-300mm Cabrio zoom lens is the latest in Fujinon’s Cabrio series. It features an optional, detachable servo unit for remote control of the zoom, focus and iris adjustment. It is capable of providing quick and smooth zooms, reframing, focus and iris controls.

More of Fujinon’s 4K UHD series of products will also be on display, including the UA80X9 field lens and the UA22x8 portable zoom. Each are designed for broadcast applications and are compatible with 4K 2/3-inch broadcast cameras and come standard with a 16-bit encoder capable of high-resolution output of lens data.

The CJ12 has a 4.3mm wide angle—for a 96.3 degree horizontal angle of view—and minimum object distance of 30 cm. A built-in 2x extender allows for more telephoto operation. Editors can crop a 3840x2160 original image to 1920x1080 with full HDTV image quality.

Three 20-pin connectors are included standard, capable of reading out the high-precision position information of the zoom, focus and iris. Virtual operations are also available in the full servo mode, and use of a 16-bit absolute value encoder in the digital drive unit helps eliminate the need for any initialization. The lens is also compatible with standard HD zoom and focus demand controls.

Canon has also announced it is developing a longer-zoom 4K portable lens to its 4K 2/3-inch broadcast lens lineup. The new lens will enable shooting across a range of focal lengths, from wide-angle to close-ups in 4K or HD resolution.

The CJ12 is scheduled to be available in December; the longer-zoom 4K lens is scheduled for the first half of 2016.
