Ikegami has announced a further expansion to its range of on-camera viewfinders with the launch of the new VFE-P07D, a combined monocular OLED viewfinder augmented by a tiltable 3.5inch ultra-compact monitor display.

The viewfinder will be on display at Ikegami's Central Hall booth C3819 during the 2026 NAB Show from April 19 to 22 in Las Vegas,

"The VFE-P07D attaches easily to shoulder-mounting and studio-format cameras in the UNICAM XE series," comments Teri Zastrow, director of sales and marketing at Ikegami USA. "The viewfinder incorporates a Full HD resolution OLED screen in a monoscope configuration which allows accurate camera positioning and focusing across a wide range of lighting environments, from bright outdoors to low-illumination interiors. The OLED's quick response time is particularly useful when televising fast-moving subjects such as sports. Its high contrast range is another key advantage especially when capturing content in HDR mode. Hinge-mounted above the monoscope is a 3.5-inch LCD monitor for use in applications such as content capture from off-center shooting angles and monitoring positions further from the eyepiece."

At the core of the monocular display is a 0.7-inch 16 x 9 aspect ratio OLED with a fast response time, 200 cd/meter-squared brightness and integral magnifying lens. Located just above this unit is a 3.5-inch TFT LCD monitor with 450 cd/meter-squared brightness and 170 degree horizontal/vertical viewing angles. The monitor screen can face forwards or be adjusted laterally through 180 degrees. Tilt angle is adjustable through more than 120 degrees.

A tally light is mounted on the forward-facing side of the viewfinder. On-viewfinder controls include adjustable peak level, contrast, brightness, menu parameters, marker selection, zebra pattern on/off and tally brightness. An assignable pushbutton can also be accessed quickly from the viewfinder rear.

Supplementing the UNICAM XE digital camera to viewfinder interface is a BNC input to the 3.5-inch display which allows externally sourced HD/3G-SDI signals to be monitored when working in restricted space or on location. The OLED viewfinder and LCD monitor displays both have 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and 16.7 million color capability. Waveform, vectorscope and audio metering tools can accessed easily.

Ikegami's UNICAM XE series cameras compatible with the new viewfinder include the HDK-X500, UHK-X600, portable UHK-X700, plus the UHK-X700RF wireless camera. All incorporate 3-CMOS global-shutter imagers and fully conform to ITU-R BT.2020 standard high dynamic range.

The VFE-P07D will be demonstrated alongside Ikegami's recently announced VFE-P710AD and VFE-P711AD 7-inch OLED viewfinders plus the new Variable Neutral Density filter function for UHK-X700 and UHK-750 UNICAM XE portable and full studio cameras. Also on display will be additional cameras in the UNICAM-XE series, latest-generation compact/POV cameras, SDI and IP camera control equipment, and 9-inch to 31.1-inch broadcast picture monitors.

MAHWAH, N.J.—Ikegami will feature its latest generation of broadcast-quality cameras, controllers and monitors during the 2026 NAB Show, April 18-22, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The cameras share the same network camera control architecture, allowing crews to transition easily between the various models in the series.

A recent addition to Ikegami’s 4K lineup is the ultra-compact UHL-X40, which is optimized for robotic applications. Ikegami will also show other UNICAM XE cameras, including the studio/portable UHK-X700 and UHK-X750 full studio version as well as the studio/portable UHK-X600 and HDK-X500, which are HD models with upgrade paths to 4K-UHD.

IP connectivity continues to play a key role in broadcast production. The IPX-100 compact IP base station allows broadcast content creators to adopt SMPTE ST 2110 IP remote and studio operation while supporting the familiar workflow of baseband live production.

Each UNICAM XE or UNICAM HD camera can feed into an IPX-100 via up to 2 miles of conventional SMPTE-hybrid fiber cable. The IPX-100 powers the camera head so there is no operational difference compared to using a conventional fiber-cabled camera. An integral test signal generator allows system configuration before cameras or other sources are connected.

Support is also included for the video trunk channel. An HD-SDI video monitoring output allows a monitor to be connected directly to the IPX-100, facilitating initial setup. Remote setup and monitoring of the IPX-100 can be performed using Ikegami's XE WebView browser.

The company will also feature its OCP-500 slimline control panel. Shown as a prototype last year and now in production, the panel takes up minimal desk space while offering complete remote control of all camera functions, including full setup adjustment via an LCD touchscreen and associated rotary encoders. Ethernet interface, including power, is featured. Direct connection via RS-422 control cable is also available.

The company will also show its UHL-X40 two-piece box camera and two video monitors. The UHL-X40 consists of an ultra-compact, 2.4-pound camera head and separate CCU. It offers a built-in fiber extension system allowing a distance up to six miles between head and CCU using just a duplex fiber cable. Included in the fiber transmission system is an Ethernet trunk channel for control of the PTZ head or other external use.

The CCU provides simultaneous 2160p (4K) output, HD clean output and HD monitoring output with focus assist and other viewfinder-style indicators and markers for the remote operator.

Ikegami will also show the HLM-2460WA 24-inch video monitor, which reproduces more accurate dynamics of the source images thanks to a 1920 x 1200 pixel IPS LCD panel with 1,800:1 contrast ratio and 400 nits peak brightness. It is designed for use in broadcast environments, such as edit suites where a computer-friendly WUXGA display resolution is preferred, and for integration into monitor walls.

The company will also feature its HLM-1860WR, an AC- or battery-powered 1920 x 1080 pixel HD multiformat monitor with an 18.5-inch IPS LCD panel. It offers a 1,000:1 contrast ratio and 500 nits peak brightness.

LOWELL, Mass.—The Paul E. Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell in Massachusetts has chosen Ikegami cameras for its broadcast-quality television production facilities.

UML's Tsongas Center has a potential seating capacity of 6,500 patrons. It is home to the NCAA First-Division UMass Lowell River Hawks hockey and basketball teams. The stadium has also hosted world-renowned musical artists and is a premier home for entertainment in New England's Merrimack Valley.

Core elements of the upgrades at the Center are four UHK-X600 studio/portable models which will be used to televise a wide range of activities including sports, stage performances and public presentations. The cameras, along with lenses, viewfinders and control equipment, were provided via Little Bay Broadcast LCC, one of New Hampshire's leading specialists in broadcast systems integration.

“The new Ikegami cameras will help deliver the next level of video quality to the center-hung display we had installed last summer," explained Chad Fillion, director of audio and visual services at the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell. "Our coverage of the UMass Lowell River Hawks hockey, the Boston Fleet, and various University-related events, will have a much-needed boost for fans and attendees."

The UHK-X600 delivers 1000 TVL resolution, minimal aliasing, plus 2000 lux sensitivity at f10, 60p. Global shutter imagers minimize artifacts when televising LED screen walls or flash/strobe-illuminated stage environments. The standard feature set includes full support for Hybrid Log Gamma HDR with the ability to select between BT.2020 and BT.709 chroma spaces. Product-related features also include chromatic aberration correction, vignetting correction, ramping compensation, B4 lens mounting and remote control of backfocus-supported lenses. Core of the electronics is a power-efficient ASIC which encapsulates a wide range of high-grade video processing functions into ultra-compact component dimensions.

Future-proof options for the UHK-X600 include license-key based support for 2x, 3x and 4x high frame rate capture plus 4K processing delivering 2000 TVL resolution when operating in 2160p. Plug-in hardware-based options include a SMPTE ST 2110 compatible media-over-IP interface board and optional 12G output board.

MAHWAH, N.J.—Ikegami will showcase its new IPX-100 IP extension unit as well as the latest developments in its camera and monitor portfolio at NAB Show New York 2025, Oct. 22-23, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York.

Making its first NAB Show New York appearance, the IPX-100 IP extension unit offers an alternative to the conventional base station or CCU for applications where IP interface of video, audio and intercom are planned from day one.

The IPX-100 is 2 units high by half 19-inch rack width, lightweight and well-suited for use in mobile production vehicles, REMI equipment rooms and wherever space is at a premium. For throw-down applications, it can be ordered with a carry handle.

The unit has the same robust camera head power capacity as the BSX-100, providing power via conventional SMPTE-hybrid fiber camera cable at a distance of up to 2.2 miles depending on camera model and configuration. An integral test signal generator allows IP system configuration before a camera head is connected.

An HD-SDI video monitoring output enables direct connection of a monitor to the IPX-100, facilitating initial setup. The IPX-100 supports NMOS IS-04 and IS-05 for operational management of the IP system.

Ikegami will also feature its UHL-X40, an ultra-compact box style UHD camera measuring 4.7 by 5 by 4.4 inches and weighing 2.4 pounds. It is designed for applications requiring an inconspicuous UHD camera.

The head is powered locally with 12 volts DC (just 28 watts) and connects with the compact CCU-X40 via up to 6.2 miles of duplex single-mode fiber carrying uncompressed RGB raw pixel data. Included with the fiber link is a 1G Ethernet trunk for external data, such as pan/tilt/zoom control.

The UHL-X40 incorporates three ⅔-inch UHD sensors with a global shutter pixel architecture that captures natural images even when shooting LED screens, clear of geometric distortion during still frame replay. The global shutter imagers also minimize artifacts when televising flash or strobe-illuminated stage environments.

The UHL-X40 achieves F10 sensitivity at 2160p59.94 and a signal-to-noise ratio of 62 decibels in HD. HDR and BT.2020 color reproduction are available as standard. The CCU-X40 can output two formats simultaneously, such as 2160p UHD and 1080i HD.

Ikegami will also feature its HDK-X500 portable system camera designed for use across a wide spectrum of applications, including pedestal-mounted studio operation, tripod-based sports coverage and shoulder-mounted location production. Features include three latest-generation ⅔-inch CMOS global shutter sensors plus automatic optical vignetting correction throughout the range of OVC-compatible B4 bayonet mount zoom lenses.

Back focus of RBF-compatible lenses can be adjusted from the OCP in the control room even when the camera head is in a remote location. Optimal control of ambient lighting, studio or outdoor is supported by the same neutral-density and color-compensation dual filter system used in Ikegami’s top-end UHK camera series.

The camera’s integral digital processor provides 16-axis color correction, allowing precise scene matching or creation of specific effects. HLG HDR is fully supported. Performance parameters include 1,000 TVL typical center resolution at 5% modulation, 62 dB typical signal-to-noise ratio and F11 sensitivity (1080i/59.94). The HDK-X500 is also capable of high-frame-rate capture at 1080i 119.88 Hz.

Ikegami will also show its ULE-217-HDR Full-HD HDR/SDR video quality monitor designed for use in studio control rooms, mobile production units and post-production suites. Space-efficient and energy-efficient, it is equipped with a 21.5-inch 1920 x 1080 pixel LED display, recently upgraded from 500 to 1,000 nits brightness. HLG and HDR10 high dynamic range and all commonly used resolutions from 480p up to UHD and 4096 x 2160p60 4K are supported.

It also will feature the HLM-2460W, a 24-inch Full-HD LCD monitor with a 1920×1200 pixel 10-bit resolution LCD panel with 1800:1 contrast ratio, 400 nits brightness and 3.4-inch front-to-back depth. Multiformat SDI, 3G-SDI, HDMI, Ethernet and VBS inputs are provided as standard.

NEUSS, Germany—Ikegami has announced that the UHL-X40 is a full studio quality 4K-UHD HDR camera will be making its IBC debut on the Ikegami stand 12.A31 in the Amsterdam RAI Centre from Sept. 12-15.

Based in concept on Ikegami’s highly successful UHL-F4000, which was developed for aerial applications such as helicopter platforms, the UHL-X40 head measures only 120 x 128 x 112 millimeters WDH, weighs just 1.1 kilograms and has very low power consumption: 28 watts, 12 volts DC.

“The UHL-X40 offers many advantages in terms of operational efficiency and versatility,” Gisbert Hochguertel, Ikegami Europe product specialist, said. “It is similar in image quality and features to our latest generation UNICAM XE studio camera series, allowing easy intercuts between these models. The UHL-X40 connects to its CCU-X40 control unit via up to 10 km of duplex single-mode fibre carrying the 4K/UHD camera signal plus the Gigabit Ethernet trunk line. This makes it ideal for applications such as robotic studio operation, remote broadcasting of sports and stage events, and point-of-view video capture.”

Like the camera head, the control unit is very compact in size (145 mm wide, 145 mm high and 173 mm deep) and light in weight (2.6 kg). Commands such as pan/tilt/zoom control or teleprompter feeds can be sent from the CCU via an integrated Gigabit Ethernet trunk line.

The UHL-X40 features three high-quality, ⅔-inch CMOS UHD sensors with a global shutter pixel architecture to capture natural images even when shooting LED screens, clear of geometric distortion during still-frame replay, the company said.

The global shutter imagers also minimize artifacts when televising flash/strobe-illuminated stage environments. UHL-X40 performance parameters include F11 sensitivity at 2160p50 and a signal-to-noise ratio of 62 dB. HDR (ITU-R BT.2100) and BT.2020 color reproduction are accessible as standard. Lens mount is B4, the industry standard for high-end, ⅔-inch broadcast cameras.

“The UHL-X40 shares most of the key features of the UNICAM-XE camera family, such as dual optical filter wheels with five positions each for separate control of neutral density and colour correction filters, optical vignetting correction plus remote back focus,” Hochguertel added. “Precise focus-assist is achieved by placing the edge components of the 4K image on the feed to a separate HD monitor. In addition to its 4K-UHD output, the CCU-X40 can deliver a simultaneous downconversion of the full 3840 x 2160 resolution UHD frame plus a 1920 x 1080 native cutout of the central area.”

“Digital zoom from 1.1 to 10.0 times magnification can be performed in increments of 0.1, accessible via the camera menu or the optional RM-71F remote controller,” Hochguertel said. “Digital and optical zoom can be used in combination.”

“Another interesting feature of the UHL-X40 is its vertical image inversion function which can be selected for applications such as theatre-stage outside broadcasting where upside-down overhead suspension is easier than traditional mounting,” Hochguertel concluded. “This feature saves having to assign a vision switcher channel to perform the image inversion.”

MAHWAH, NJ—Ikegami has introduced the the UHK-X700RF wireless portable camera, a new addition to its UNICAM-XE product range with the same feature set, operational ergonomics, compact size and light weight as its wired sister model UHK-X700.

Ikegami will be showing the new camera at Stand 12.A31 in the RAI Amsterdam during the IBC Show, Sept. 12-15.

“UNICAM-XE series cameras are designed to allow fast and easy setup, versatile operation and secure delivery of broadcast quality video,” says Gisbert Hochguertel, Ikegami Europe Product Specialist. “They share the robust build quality and intuitive control structure that have made Ikegami UNICAM camera systems a popular choice among television control producers in Europe and around the world. The UHK-X700RF opens a wide vista of creative perspectives for applications such as news, OB sports and coverage of stage events. Even in fully rehearsed studio projects, it offers producers the freedom to introduce unusual-angle shots at short notice.”

The UHK-X700RF is equipped with a native UHD-sensor (3840 x 2160 pixels) with a global shutter architecture designed to capture natural images even under challenging situations. The wireless camera supports UHD (2160@50p/59.94p) and HD (1080@50p/i, 59.94p/i) frame rates as a standard feature.

Like all other cameras within the UNICAM-XE family, the UHK-X700RF incorporates a dual filter wheel enabling separate control of incoming light and colour temperature. Space is included to mount any desired effect filter or an optical low-pass filter to further reduce aliasing and moiré artifacts. Automatic optical vignetting correction is supported when using OVC-compatible B4 bayonet mount zoom lenses.

The transmitter in the UHK-X700RF operates in the 2 to 2.7 GHz band, accessible in 250 kHz tuning steps, with an output power of 100 mW. Two antennas mounted at the rear of the camera comprise one for the main video signal plus a smaller one for telemetry data.

Multichannel antenna diversity is a standard feature, providing robust signal delivery in a wide range of transmission environments. Encoding is fast, typically just 40 ms input to output at UHD or HD resolution. Transmission range in a standard configuration is approximately 550 yards. If the receiving antennas are positioned far away from the base unit, it is possible to cascade several IP-Mesh data transceivers, allowing for up to 22 transceivers to be used in a single system.

The receiver/decoder for the main video signal occupies a 19 inch half-rack width chassis. It employs DVB-T modulation in QPSK, 16QAM and 64QAM. Bandwidth is switchable between 8 MHz, 7 MHz, 6 MHz and 5 MHz. To assure robust signal quality, even under critical circumstances, the DVB-T guard interval can be switched in four discrete steps: 1/32, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4. Forward error correction is also flexibly selectable from 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8 and 2/3 as a default value. H.265-HEVC, H.264-AVC and MPEG-2 video coding are selectable via the control menu.

Almost all conventional broadcast frame rates for HD and UHD are supported in ITU-R BT.709 SDR and ITU-R BT.2100 HDR as well as BT.2020 wide colour gamut. The receiver/decoder comes equipped with four SDI outputs and supports 1.5G, 3G and 12G SDI formats including embedded audio. It also features two XLR three-pin analog audio outputs, a BNC genlock input and a four-pin XLR 12 volt DC power input.

In its basic configuration, the receiver/decoder can connect directly to up to eight downconverters (four pairs of antennas) via conventional BNC cables. Up to 100m cable extension is supported. The distance between the receiving antennas and the Sapphire-RXD4 can be increased using a fibre base unit in combination with a fibre extension unit. This can be achieved via conventional SMPTE hybrid fibre/copper cable with LEMO connectors, allowing an extension of about 1,000 yards. The base unit will also supply power to the extension unit via the same cable.

MIAMI—WPLG, the Berkshire Hathaway-owned station, has purchased four complete Ikegami HDK-X500 camera systems, including a BSX-1000 base station and OCP-300 operating control panel, for its new production studio on the northern outskirts of the city.

The Ikegami HDK-X500 features three 2/3-inch CMOS sensors with a global shutter pixel architecture that allows it to capture natural images even under challenging situations. Still frame replay of fast-moving objects is free from geometric distortion, and there are no flash bands when shooting under strobe lights or flashes from still cameras, Ikegami said.

The camera also includes automatic optical vignetting correction of OVC-compatible B4 bayonet mount zoom lenses. Back focus of RBF-compatible lenses can be adjusted locally or remotely. Optimal control of ambient lighting, studio or outdoor, is supported by a neutral-density and color-compensation dual filter system, it said.

The HDK-X500 relies on a digital processor that provides 16-axis color correction, which allows precise scene matching and the ability to create special effects. HLG high dynamic range is fully supported, enabling detailed image reproduction across the entire dynamic range from bright highlights through to deep shadows, it said.

The camera delivers 1000 TVL resolution, 62dB typical signal-to-noise ratio and F11 sensitivity. It is also capable of 2x high-frame-rate capture, the company said.

The BSX-100 is a 3G fiber base station housed in a 3U high half-rack-width low-mass unit. It offers a coherent upgrade path for broadcasters and production companies as they progress from SDI to IP, from standard to high dynamic range and from an HD to an HD/4K dual-format workflow, it said.

In its standard form, the base station provides 3G-SDI/HD-SDI HD output. An optional 4K output software key allows use of HD cameras in a variety of configurations, which include simultaneous production in HD and 4K resolutions. The unit also is available with 12G-SDI/3G-SDI quad link interfaces. This approach allows 3G camera systems to be integrated into 4K environments easily and cost-effectively.

The OCP-300 control panel supports conventional one-by-one ICCP (RS-422) control, Arcnet-based control and Ethernet-based control.

It also confirmed that the IP gateway for Ikegami UNICAM XE and UNICAM HD cameras will make its first U.S. appearance on the Ikegami booth, N1539, between April 6 to 9 at the 2025 NAB Show in Las Vegas.

The product had been introduced at the 2024 IBC Show in September in Amsterdam.

The IPX-100 allows broadcast content creators to adopt SMPTE ST 2110 IP remote operation while supporting the familiar workflow of baseband live production. Each camera can feed into an IPX-100 gateway via up to 2 miles of conventional SMPTE-hybrid fiber cable. The camera head is powered by the IPX-100 so there is no operational difference for the cameraman compared with using a conventional fiber-cabled camera.

“The IPX-100 is a compact lightweight unit, 2U height and half rack width, and weighing just 11 pounds,” explained Emilio Aleman, senior product manager at Ikegami Electronics (USA). “It is suited for use in a central equipment room, a REMI mobile unit or flight pack, or for operation as a portable throw-down unit. Equipped to work fully self-contained, the IPX-100 incorporates a test signal generator which allows system configuration before cameras or other sources are connected. Support is also included for the video trunk channel of our UNICAM XE cameras, allowing IP integration of a POV camera such as our box style UHL-43.”

The IPX-100 can be configured quickly via a series of license-key options to suit specific requirements as or where needed. Those include:

• A gateway function for 3G/HD-SDI input/output enabling SDI-to-IP and IP-to-SDI conversion, supporting external devices at the IPX-100 location.
• JPEG XS (SMPTE ST2110-22 compliant) encoding and decoding. JPEG XS preserves the visual quality of an uncompressed stream with almost no human-perceptible delay. It is ideal for remote production where transmission bandwidth is critical. The IPX-100 provides selectable JPEG XS data rate in four steps: High (1/5), Mid (1/8), Low (1/16), and Mini (1/32), allowing users to select the optimal setting according to operational conditions. The JPEG XS option also provides support for Video Trunk and QTV in 4K.
• 3D-LUT output for HD simulcasting. This is compatible with 33 x 33 x 33 or 65 x 65 x 65 .cube files created using DaVinci Resolve and well as HD to 4K-UHD upscaling.

A PC running Ikegami XE Web View software can simultaneously be coupled to the camera control network via an optional Ikegami Protocol Gateway, enabling initial setup and supervision of the ST 2110 interface. Automated MoIP network setup can be performed using an NMOS IS-04/IS-05 feed from the IPX-100 to a local or remote central automation system.

Video formats supported as standard include UHD (2160p59.94/50), HD (1080p59.94/50, 1080i 59.94/50, and HD-HFR in 1080i/p (2x/3x/4x speed) and 720p59.94/50). Other supported standards include SMPTE ST 2022-7 redundancy, ST2110-10, ST 2110-20/-21/-22/-30/-40 and ST 2059-1/2 PTP synchronization and NMOS IS-04/-IS05 control protocols.

An HD-SDI video monitoring output allows direct connection of a field monitor to the IPX-100, facilitating initial setup.

SEOUL—Korean cable television network SBS Medianet has expanded its production base with the purchase of additional Ikegami UHK-X700 cameras for live coverage of a major golf tournament. SBS Medianet has invested in a total of 32 UHK-X700 camera chains during 2024.

The cameras were chosen for their high video quality and versatility including the ability to perform efficiently and effectively in outdoor live broadcasting conditions. Ikegami’s Korean distributor, Dong Hwa AV, negotiated the sales.

SBS Medianet, located at Mapo-gu, western Seoul, commenced operations in 1999. An affiliate of SBS Media Group, it operates seven channels and transmits a variety of popular programs in genres such as entertainment, music, sports and lifestyle. With its wide variety of content, SBS Medianet has played an important role in the development of the Korean entertainment industry.

Ikegami UHK-X700 cameras allow users to operate at 4K-UHD, 1080p or 1080i resolution in standard dynamic range or high dynamic range and standard or wide color gamut. Content can be mastered in full 4K-UHD to ensure a long commercial lifetime for high-budget productions. The cameras can also be operated in multi-format workflows, the companies reported.

Designed for studio or outdoor applications, UHK-X700 cameras each incorporate three 2/3-inch CMOS 4K sensors with a global shutter which provides freedom from rolling-shutter distortion and flash-banding artifacts. The camera is uniformly balanced and has a low center of gravity to ensure easy operation on a pedestal, tripod or shoulder.

Core of the Ikegami UHK-X700’s electronics is an ASIC chip which encapsulates a wide range of high-grade video processing functions into ultra-compact component dimensions. Optional high frame-rate shooting at up to 2x speed in 4K or up to 8x speed in HD can be performed via the BSX-100 base station for applications such as capturing fast motion in sport or stage events.

The UHK-X700/BSX-100 combination allows cameras to be securely linked up to 3 km from their operating location, including power to the camera head. Simultaneous output in HD SDR and UHD HDR video formats is supported, including mixed sources. 4K-UHD video is available as a 12G-SDI feed directly from the camera head, enabling the UHK-X700 to be integrated into a wireless system.

SBS Medianet has used many Ikegami products in the past. In addition to the stability and durability of these cameras, the compatibility of each piece of equipment and Ikegami’s extensive technical support were factors in its choice, the two companies reported.

MAHWAH, N.J.—Ikegami will launch the ultra-compact UHL-X40 4K-UHD/HD 3-CMOS camera. Also on show will be the established UHK-X600 camera and HQLM-3125X monitor and show its UHK-X600 camera and HQLM-3125X monitor during the 2024 NAB Show New York, Oct. 9-10, at the Javits Center in New York City.

The UHL-X40 is box style UHD camera measuring 4.7 x 5 x 4.4 inches and weighing 2.4 pounds. It is designed for applications requiring an inconspicuous camera with uncompromised UHD performance. The head is powered locally with 12 volts DC (just 23 watts) and connects with the compact CCU-X40 via up to 6.2 miles of duplex single-mode fiber carrying uncompressed RGB raw pixel data. Included with the fiber link is a 1G Ethernet trunk for external data, such as pan/tilt/zoom control, the company said.

Incorporating three high-quality 2/3-inch UHD sensors with a global shutter pixel architecture, the camera captures natural images even when shooting LED screens and is clear of geometric distortion during still frame replay. The global shutter imagers also minimize artifacts when televising flash/strobe-illuminated stage environments. The UHL-X40 achieves F10 sensitivity at 2160p59.94 and a signal-to-noise ratio of 62 dB in HD. HDR and BT.2020 color reproduction are available as standard, it said.

The CCU-X40 can output two formats simultaneously, such as 2160p UHD and 1080i HD. Selectable output signal resolutions and scanning rates include:

• 3840 x 2160 at 59.94p and 50p
• 1920 x 1080 at 59.94p and 50p
• 1920 x 1080 at 59.94i and 50i
• 1280 x 720 at 59.94p and 50p
• 1920 x 1080 at 29.97psF and 25psF

A supplementary HD monitor output from the CCU includes information such as menu, characters and markers. Focus assist can be enabled via this output, providing viewfinder video to a remotely located robotics operator, it said.

Features also include automatic vignetting correction and F-stop ramping zoom lens compensation, minimizing dark corners and overall loss of light when the lens is in telephoto mode and the iris is open. An optional tally light can be attached to the upper front of the camera head, it said.

The UHL-X40 can be operated from any Ikegami OCP and MCP physical or virtual control panel. At NAB NY, Ikegami will use the new OCP-500, a compact, but full-function control panel with joystick control of iris and master black, it said.

AMSTERDAM—Ikegami has introduced the Ikegami IPX-100 full-featured IP-oriented mini base station at IBC 2024.  

“The IPX-100 is a compact and attractively priced bridge between conventional broadcast and the wider world of [SMPTE] ST 2110 infrastructure,” said Gisbert Hochguertel, Ikegami Europe product specialist. 

“Compatible with all cameras in the Ikegami XE and HD series, it offers core features of our established and industry proven BSX-100 base station plus optional SMPTE ST 2110 media-over-IP support. The new model is one third smaller in size at just 2U high by half 19-inch rack width. ST 2110-22 (JPEG-XS) encoding is available as a software option, an important feature allowing the data rate to adapt to the available IP bandwidth.”

Designed to operate as a fully self-contained unit, the IPX-100 includes an integral signal generator that allows system configuration before cameras or other sources are connected. ST 2110 connectivity can be set up independently by IT specialists prior to an event, the company said.

On the day of the event, the cameras can then be connected easily to the IPX-100 by a conventional SMPTE-hybrid fiber cable with up to 2.174-mile (3.5 km) cable extension. The camera head is powered by the IPX-100 so there is no operational difference compared with using a conventional fiber-cabled camera, Ikegami said.

The IPX-100 converts the broadcast signals to ST 2110-compliant signals and serves as a gateway to IP. The IPX-100 is also available with an optional 3G/HD-SDI input/output to serve as an external SDI-to-IP or IP-to-SDI converter. An HD-SDI video monitoring output allows direct connection of a field monitor to the IPX-100 to control the related video signals on location, it said.

Connecting an Ikegami OCP-300/-500 via Ethernet to the IPX-100 enables camera control on location, even if an IP connection to the wider ST 2110 infrastructure is not yet established. A PC running Ikegami XE Web View software can simultaneously be coupled to the network hub, enabling system supervision via an optional Protocol Gateway. Automated setup can be performed using an NMOS IS-04/IS-05 feed from the IPX-100 to a local or remote central automation system, it said.

Supported video formats provided as standard include UHD (2160p59.94/50), HD (1080p59.94/50, 1080i 59.94/50) and HD-HFR in 1080i/p (2x/3x/4x speed) and 720p59.94/50. Other supported standards include SMPTE ST 2022-7 redundancy, ST 2110-10, ST 2110-20/-21/-22/-30/-40 and ST 2059-1/2 PTP synchronization as well as a wide range of control protocols, such as NMOS IS-04/-IS05. 

The IPX-100 can optionally output JPEG-XS signal streaming data (software option) at selectable rates of high (1/6), medium (1/8), low (1/16) and minimum (1/32). Other options include a 3D-LUT output for HD simulcasting (compatible with 33 x 33 x 33 or 65 x 65 x 65 .cube files created using DaVinci Resolve), HD to 4K-UHD upscaling or a data trunk output.

Ikegami anticipates making its IPX-100 available in Q1 2025.

RIYADH—Ikegami has announced the delivery of ten HDK-99 camera systems to Advanced Digital Media Company (ADMC), a major supplier of broadcast quality media production systems and services in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. 

Each system comprises an HDK-99 camera head, FA-97A fiber interface, BSX-100H base station, VFL-P700A viewfinder and OCP-300 operation control unit. They form part of ADMC’s transition from SDR to HDR capability.

ADMC is a Saudi-based company with nearly 40 years of experience serving the telecom, IT and media market sectors. Established in 1986, it builds, operates and offers on lease a wide range of production studio facilities and outside broadcast vehicles.

“We chose Ikegami HDK-99 cameras for their ability to integrate easily into studio-based projects, truck-based outside broadcast production or EFP-style mobile content creation,” commented Ayman Zeibak, general manager of ADMC. “We are confident and happy with the products and support we have received over the years from Ikegami’s Dubai team.”

“This order stems from our long-term relationship with ADMC as well as the industry-proven quality, reliability and versatility of our camera systems,” added Abdul Ghani, general manager, Ikegami Middle East. “The HDK-99 is a docking-style camera for over-the-shoulder, pedestal-mounted and tripod mounted applications. It is built to withstand the rigours of daily studio use and the physical demands imposed by mobile production projects such as stage events and sports coverage. It is also ideally suited to the rental market given its operator-friendly control routines and excellent ergonomic design.” 

Ikegami HDK-99 camera systems form part of Ikegami’s UNICAM HD series. The imaging section comprises three 2.6 megapixel high-performance CMOS image sensors which deliver high picture quality HDR at Full-HD 1920 x 1080 resolution with progressive-scan. HLG mode maintains the high contrast required for HDR and conforms to the ITU-R BT.2100 international standard. Noise is less than -62 dB and sensitivity is a high F12. The sensors natively support 1080i /59.94, 1080i/50, 720p/59.94, 720p/50, 1080p/29.97, 1080p/25 and 1080p/23.98. Also supported by the HDK-99 are 1080p/59.94, 1080p/50, 1080i/119.88, and 1080i/100 3G formats.

A Lens Aberration Correction function minimizes resolution loss and coloured edging caused mainly by optical lens deviation. Quick EZ Focus Assist enhances the viewfinder signal, enabling the camera operator to make critical focus adjustments. Area size, area color, edge color and display time on the viewfinder are all adjustable from the camera menu, Ikegami reported. 

Developed for use with the HDK-99 and other cameras in the UNICAM HD series, the BSX-100H base station provides 3G/HD signal outputs as standard. Optional additions include a plug-in media-over-IP interface module which allows video, audio and metadata to be transported as independent IP multicast streams. The BSX-100H can also process the HD output from the HDK-99 into 4K-UHD for output via 3G-SDI quad-Link. This option is activated by a purchasing a software key.

Ikegami’s OCP-300 control panel supports conventional one-by-one ICCP (Ikegami command) control, and Ethernet based control. It incorporates a 7 inch touchscreen colour LCD with rotary encoders plus a joystick for iris and pedestal control. A control depth feature allows the selection of basic, complete and customized operating access. Control configurations can be stored in a removable SD Memory Card. Options available for the OCP-300 include support for shared operation of up to 100 cameras. PoE+ connectivity eliminates the need for external power supplies. Cable lengths of up to 100 meters (Cat 5e Ethernet) are supported. Ikegami reported.

NEUSS, Germany—Ikegami will make the European debut of the 24-inch HLM-2460WA and 18.5-inch HLM-1860WR broadcast-quality monitors at 2024IBC, Sept. 13-16, at the Amsterdam RAI Convention Center.

“Both monitors are optimized for 1920 x 1080 HD, which continues to be the most popular resolution for routine broadcast production and transmission,” said Gisbert Hochguertel, Ikegami Europe product specialist.

“Building on the features and performance of its HLM-2460W predecessor, the 24-inch HLM-2460WA reproduces more accurate dynamics of the source images thanks to a 1920 x 1200 native pixel in-plane switching (IPS) LCD panel with 1,800:1 contrast ratio and 400 nits peak brightness," Hochguertel continued. "It is designed for use in broadcast environments, such as edit suites where a computer-friendly WUXGA display resolution is preferred, and for integration into monitor walls.” 

The HLM-2460WA provides picture-in-picture and side-by-side video display, preset and operator-configurable onscreen markers and red, green and yellow tally. It also offers dynamic and static under-monitor display facilities as well as closed caption and vertical interval timecode display, it said.

User-selectable test signals, waveform monitoring and vectorscope display tools, image and test signal mix, dot-by-dot display, and 2x and 4x zoom are included. The monitor provides audio capabilities that include SDI audio de-embedding, eight-channel audio level metering and 5.1 channel surround-sound down-mix output, the company said.

Automatic calibration software that ensures consistent and accurate color reproduction for the life of the monitor is available as an option. The software aligns R/G/B gain levels to exhibit the correct white balance by acquiring real-time measurement data via a choice of colorimeters from JETI Specbos (model 1211-2), Klein Instruments (K10-A) or Konica Minolta (CA-310/CA-410), it said.

The HLM-2460WA can be controlled remotely via Ethernet, RS-485 or GPIO, or directly from its front panel. High dynamic range support is available as an option, including HLG1, HLG2 and S-Log3 HDR EOTF, in addition to conventional gamma, it said.

The HLM-1860WR is the successor to the HLM-1760WR. It is a 1920 x 1080-pixel native HD multi-format monitor with a larger 18.5-inch IPS LCD panel. It fits within the same 19-inch rack-width, 7U-high housing as its predecessor, the company said. 

The new monitor has a 1,000:1 contrast ratio and 500 nits peak brightness, allowing it to reproduce clear images even in outdoor environments. Features include user-definable reference marker lines or boxes that can be created using a USB mouse, eight channels of SDI-embedded audio metering and seamless tally integration. The HLM-1860WR requires 48 watts of mains power or 43.2 watts of 12-volt DC battery power. The monitor’s width, height and depth measurements are 17.3 x 11.85 x 3.15 inches (440 x 301 x 80 mm).

NEUSS, Germany—Ikegami will introduce the HDK-X500 portable HD camera system to Europe at IBC2024, Sept. 13-16, at the Amsterdam RAI convention center.

“The HDK-X500 is designed for use across a wide spectrum of applications,” said Gisbert Hochguertel, Ikegami Europe product specialist. “It can be configured easily for pedestal-mounted studio operation, tripod-based sports coverage and shoulder-mounted location production.

“At the front end are three latest-generation 2/3-inch CMOS sensors with a global shutter architecture, which enables the camera to capture natural images even in challenging situations. Still-frame replay of fast-moving objects, for example, is completely free from geometric distortion and there are no flash bands when the camera is capturing a strobe-illuminated stage or flash lighting from still cameras.”

The camera uses Ikegami’s latest-generation AXII digital processor and includes automatic optical correction of vignetting throughout the range of OVC-compatible B4 bayonet-mount zoom lenses. It also offers remote back focus adjustment, he said.

“Optimal control of interior or exterior ambient lighting is supported by the same neutral-density and color-compensation dual filter system used in our high-end cameras,” said Hochguertel. “The color-compensation filter wheel includes a free space to mount any desired effect filter or an additional optical low-pass filter, further reducing aliasing effects in difficult shooting conditions and especially helpful when shooting LED walls.” 

The HDK-X500 fully conforms to ITU-R BT.2020 specifications, covering a wider area than the conventional BT.709 color space for HD. Combined with the wide dynamic range of the camera’s new CMOS sensors, ITU-R BT.2020 support enables HDR images to be produced using pre-installed HLG (hybrid log gamma) opto-electronic transfer function, which conforms to ITU-R BT.2100, the company said.

Other opto-electronic transfer functions, such as PQ and S-LOG, are available as options, it said.

The camera offers a horizontal resolution of 1,000 TVL (typical center resolution at 5% modulation), 62dB typical signal-to-noise ratio and F12 sensitivity (1080/50p). It is also capable of high frame rate capture at 2x speed (1080i at 100 Hz) or low-frame-rate capture (1080p/23.98, 25, 29.97), both as software license options, the company said.

Options include a variety of monocular and studio viewfinders, remote camera controllers, a 4K UHD upscaler and SMPTE ST-2110 interface for the BSX-100 base station, it said.

MAHWAH, N.J.—Ikegami has announced that the U.S. national public health agency, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), has upgraded the technical facilities of its Broadcast & Multimedia division to Ikegami UHK-X700 cameras. 

“This project is part of CDC’s ongoing efforts to refine and modernize its structures, systems and processes,” says Chad Heupel, chief of the Broadcast & Multimedia Branch at the CDC’s Office of Communications in Atlanta. “We selected Ikegami cameras for their high video quality, operational versatility and robust build. These models fully support our current high-definition mode of production and enable us to advance into latest-generation 4K ultra-high-definition high-dynamic-range operation. We needed a camera system that could easily go from studio pedestal to tripod to over-the-shoulder operations, because the CDC does such a wide variety of programs where that flexibility is necessary.”

Developed for studio, stage, outside broadcast and fully mobile applications, the Ikegami UHK-X700 incorporates a 3-CMOS optical system using a 2/3-inch sensor with a 62 dB signal to noise ratio and a sensitivity of F10 at 2160/59.94p in 4K. The CMOS sensors incorporate a global shutter pixel architecture, enabling the camera to capture natural images even under challenging situations. Still-frame replay of fast-moving objects is free from geometric distortion. The camera remains free of flash bands when shooting under strobe lights or flashes from still cameras, Ikegami reported. 

Integral to the UHK-X700 is a video processor providing full support for 4K operation. A wide range of video devices can be used to enhance the camera’s operational capabilities. Optional high-frame-rate capture via the BSX-100 base station and CCU-X100 camera control unit supports up to 2x speed in 4K and up to 8x speed in HD for applications such as fast-moving sports. Supported video formats and frame rates include 3840 x 2160p, 1920 x 1080p, 1920 x 1080i and 1280 x 720p, for both 59.94 and 50 Hz, the company explained. 

A color matrix function allows precise color adjustment within the UHK-X700. 16 axes of the color gamut can be fine-tuned in both hue and saturation. This function works in real time and is extremely beneficial for live multi-camera applications. The UHK-X700 supports the BT.2020 color space specification in 4K mode and the BT. 709 color space in both 4K and HD modes. Gamma setting is selectable and can be customized to create a specific tone.

Ikegami also reported that HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma), which conforms to the international standard (ITU-R BT.2100), is pre-installed and enables more neutral image quality with high contrast for a wider dynamic range. This allows extra image information to be retained with greater headroom for color grading.

The UHK-X700/BSX-100 combination allows cameras to be securely linked up to 3,500 meters from their operating location, including power to the camera head. Simultaneous output in HD SDR and UHD HDR video formats is optionally supported, including mixed sources. 4K-UHD video is available as a 12G-SDI feed directly from the camera head, enabling the UHK-X700 to be integrated into a wireless system, the company said. 

Ikegami’s OCP-300 controller supports Ikegami’s conventional one-by-one ICCP and Arcnet based control systems plus Ethernet based control. It includes a touchscreen LCD with rotary encoders plus a memory card slot for full camera setup and filing capability. The OCP-300 also supports Power over Ethernet so separate power supplies are not necessary.

NEUSS, Germany—A leading Iberian public service television network has acquired 27 Ikegami UHK-X700 4K-UHD HDR camera systems, the company said. 

The project sale was completed Feb. 1, with the third and final installment. The first two totaling 18 were for cameras to be used for mobile production applications controlled from OB trucks. The third phase, consisting of nine, was for cameras to be used for studio productions at the broadcaster’s headquarters.

“Ikegami UHK-X700 cameras were acknowledged by the network’s operational and technical team as offering the highest quality at the most competitive price of the various solutions evaluated,” said Michael Laetzsch, broadcast and professional video division manager at Ikegami Europe.

Designed for use in studio or outdoor applications, the Ikegami UHK-X700 incorporates three 2/3-inch CMOS 4K sensors with a global shutter that provides freedom from rolling-shutter distortion and flash-banding artifacts, the company said.

At the core of the UHK-X700 electronics is an ASIC chip that encapsulates a wide range of high-grade video processing functions into ultra-compact component dimensions. High frame-rate shooting at up to 2x speed in 4K or up to 8x speed in HD can be performed via the BSX-100 base station, it said. 

Measuring about 13.5 x 9.5 x 5.75 inches (40 x 243 x 149 mm) and weighing 11 pounds (5 kg), the UHK-X700 comes with a B4 lens mount and has an optical sensitivity of F11 when operating at 4K/50p. It is designed for use at -4 to 113 degrees F (-20 to +45 degrees C) operating temperature and 30% to 90% non-condensing humidity. The camera is uniformly balanced and has a low center of gravity, the company said.

The UHK-X700/BSX-100 combination allows cameras to be securely linked up to 1.86 miles (3,000 meters) from its operating location, including power to the camera head. Simultaneous output in HD SDR and UHD HDR video formats is optionally supported, including mixed sources. 4K-UHD video is available as a 12G-SDI feed directly from the camera head, enabling the UHK-X700 to be integrated into a wireless system, it said.

Ikegami’s OCP-300 controller supports Ikegami’s conventional one-by-one ICCP and Arcnet based control systems. It also supports Ethernet-based control.

MAHWAH, N.J.—Ikegami has announced the new UHK-X600 multi-format camera that offers the ability to be upgraded from HD to 2160p UHD via a license-key when required.

The camera, the latest in the company’s extension to its Unicam XE product portfolio, can also be upgraded to support 2x, 3x and 4x high-frame-rate capture in HD as well as 3840x2160/50p 4K delivering 2000 TVK resolution with other license keys, it said.

Offering plug-in hardware-based options, such as SMPTE ST 2100-compatible media-over-IP interface board and 12G outputs, the UHK-X600 gives users a way to protect their camera investment against premature obsolescence, the company said.

“Customers at every level from freelance producers up to large scale media networks are demanding safeguards against what looks like a relentless transition to ever higher mastering and delivery standards,” said Alan Keil, vice president and director of engineering at Ikegami Electronics in the United States.

Given that almost every TV set sold today is UHD-HDR compatible, a growing number of terrestrial and satellite broadcasters now offer HDR content via their online channels,” said Hochguertel. “The UHK-X600 comes with Hybrid Log Gamma as standard, including the ability to select between BT.2020 and BT.709 color spaces. The UHK-X600 is designed for studio and OB applications. It also can be used for battery-powered, over-the-shoulder location production. With three 2/3-inch CMOS global shutter imagers, it delivers 1000 TVL resolution, minimal aliasing and sensitivity of F11 @ 2000 lux (in 50p mode).

Measuring 13.4 x 9.6 x 6 inches (34 x 24.5 x 15.5 cm ) and weighing just over 11 pounds (5 kg), the UHK-X600 accepts all B4 ENG/EFP-lenses and supports chromatic aberration correction, vignetting correction, ramping compensation and remote control of back focus when the latter is also supported by the lens. The UHL-43 employs three 2/3-inch UHD CMOS sensors in the same workflow and remote control structure as Ikegami’s Unicam XE series UHK-X600, UHK-X700 and UHK-750 cameras. Unlike cameras using a single chip or pixel-offset technology, the integration of three UHD resolution CMOS sensors and prism optics provides true 2000 TVL capture resolution, high quality color reproduction and complete freedom from color aliasing.

Available as a Full-HD model, the UHL-43 can be upgraded to deliver 4K-UHD. HLG HDR is supported as standard in HD and UHD. 

Ikegami will also showcase the HQLM-3120W, a 31-inch 4K/Full-HD HDR WCG master reference monitor, designed for use as a full 4K master reference monitor in television production studios, postproduction suites, master control rooms and playout centers. It employs an LED-illuminated 31.1 inch pixel LCD panel with full 4096 x 2160 resolution. This has a wide viewing angle allowing critical content evaluation within up to 178 degrees horizontal and vertical. Other performance parameters include high contrast ratio (1500:1 typical) and a wide chroma gamut, meeting the ITU-R BT.2020 standard specified for broadcast quality program production and international distribution.

A 4K signal source can be connected to the HQLM-3120W via four 3G-SDI inputs (square division or two-sample interleave). Also provided are 12G-SDI 4K inputs plus a 3G/HD-SDI input and an HDMI input. In addition to its picture monitoring capabilities, the HQLM-3120W is equipped to operate as a waveform monitor and vectorscope. It can also display vertical-interval timecode, eight channel SDI-embedded audio level and closed-caption subtitles. SINGAPORE—Ikegami has announced that RE:LIVE Productions, one of Singapore’s leading providers of creative video, event management and live streaming services, has purchased three Ikegami UHK-X700 4K-UHD camera systems as well as three BSX-100 base stations, OCP-300 operating control panels and full-HD VFL701D 7-inch LCD viewfinders plus a 2-inch monocular VFL201D. 

The Ikegami equipment will be used in RE-LIVE Productions' studio projects as well as being made available as part of the rental fleet.

While details of the new IP/HFR camera were not available, the company has released information about the latest versions of its cameras, including:

• Ikegami UHK-X700 IP-capable UHD HDR HFR camera, a three 2/3-inch CMOS camera with UHD sensors and a global shutter. With full HDR and SDR support, the camera allows users to select BT.2020 or BT.709 chroma spaces. High frame rate shooting, up to 2x in UHD and 8x in HD, is available via the base station as an option. SMPTE ST 2110 support is also available via the base station as an option. UHD 12G-SDI output is available directly from the camera head. The camera comes with a B4 lens mount and optical sensitivity of F10 when operating at UHD/59.94.
• Ikegami UHK-X750 full-studio version of UHK-X700, a camera offering all of the UHK-X700’s features except for those that apply to portable, shoulder-mount operation. the Ikegami UHK-X750 full studio camera features a greater design emphasis on ease of service and cool operation.
• Ikegami HDK-99 3G 3-CMOS 4K-ready HDR camera, a three 2/3-inch 2.6 megapixel CMOS camera each capable of capturing full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution images at 1200% dynamic range and a sensitivity of F11 at 60 Hz combined with high signal-to-noise ratio and modulation depth. An optional license and board provide 12G-SDI outputs from the BSX-100, allowing an affordable transition from HD to UHD production. An optional MoIP board is also available to transition to ST.2110 IP. The HDK-99 provides an HLG mode conforming to the ITU-R BT.2100 international standard for high dynamic range. MAHWAH, N.J.—Ikegami has announced that CERTV, State Radio & Television Corporation of the Dominican Republic, has purchased Ikegami cameras for use at its headquarters in Santo Domingo. 

Four complete UHK-X700 camera systems were purchased for use in a variety of production roles on the corporation's Radio Televisión Dominicana channel, RTVD 4, with three being used as studio cameras and the four for studio or portable operations, the broadcaster reported. 

In addition to RTVD 4, CERTV comprises Quisqueya TV, channel 17, plus radio stations Dominicana FM, Quisqueya FM and Radio Santo Domingo AM.

"UHK-X700 cameras were chosen based on the reputation of Ikegami equipment for high signal quality, durability and excellent post sale support," commented Luis Aquino, CERTV's director of TV and Radio Technology. "This new investment forms part of RTVD 4's gradual transition to HD program production and digital transmission."

Radio Televisión Dominicana turned 70 on August 1st, 2022 and the state-owned channel has been working to develop new programming and modernize its technical infrastructure. 

Each UHK-X700 communicates from the main RTVD 4 studio floor to the production control gallery via an Ikegami BSX-100 UHD/HD multi-format base station and hybrid SMPTE fiber camera cable, the companies explained. 

Image manipulation and control are performed using a shared OCP-300 panel configured for multi-camera control. Three of the cameras are mounted on Miller tripods with pan/tilt heads. The shoulder camera rests on a portable pedestal with a Vinten Petrel pan head. Attached to each studio UHK-X700 is a VFL701D 7-inch Full-HD LCD viewfinder. A VFL201D 2-inch LCD viewfinder has been purchased for shoulder mount operation within the studio or on location.

The Ikegami BSX-100 is a multi-format fiber base station offering a coherent upgrade path for broadcasters and production companies as they progress from SDI to IP, from standard dynamic range to high dynamic range and from high definition to 4K, including dual-format workflow, Ikegami said. 

HDR video with very high quality reproduction from dark to bright areas is supported together with wide color gamut as standard. The base station includes HDR to SDR conversion and can be operated in any desired combination of HD or 4K resolution and SDR or HDR simultaneously. Housed in a 3U high half-rack-width low-mass unit, the BSX-100 is easily integrated into mobile production vehicles and other locations where space is limited.

DHAKA, Bangladesh—Somoy Television, a news-based 24-hour television channel broadcasting nationwide in the Bengali language, has chosen Ikegami HD cameras and monitors for use at its studio headquarters in Dhaka as part of the network’s transition from 576i SD to 1080i HD production and transmission.

Somoy TV has operated successfully with Ikegami technology from the commencement of test transmissions ahead of its April 17th 2011 launch. 

The new purchase includes 10 Ikegami HDK-73 HD camera systems, 14 HLM1760WR HD monitors and two sets of HLM2460W HD monitors. Somoy TV's new HD facilities are scheduled to go live from Q4 2022.

Ikegami’s HDK-73 is a dockable multi-role high-definition camera designed for standard-dynamic-range and high-dynamic-range broadcast production. It is available as a complete system including CCU, connecting fiber, viewfinder and remote control. Image capture is to 2/3-inch 2.6 megapixel CMOS sensors, each capable of capturing full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution images with an extremely wide dynamic range of more than 600%, high sensitivity (F13 at 50 Hz) and high signal-to-noise ratio, Ikegami said. 

The HDK-73's sensors natively support 1080i/59.94 and 1080i/50, as well as 720p/59.94 and 720p/50 scan formats. Major features include full digital signal processing, advanced digital detail correction with independent horizontal and vertical correction of red, green and blue signals, and optional anti-moiré filtering. Hybrid log gamma processing is operator-selectable for HDR picture origination, enabling high-contrast scenes to be televised with full picture detail across the entire brightness range from highlights to shaded areas. Full digital signal handling is performed by a processor operating at up to 38 bit depth.

The HDK-73's dockable structure allows studio configuration with fiber base stations as well as self-contained operation with a camera adapter for wireless or onsite recording applications. A fiber adapter can be attached directly to the camera head without need for external cables. External devices such as wireless transmission or a solid state recorder can be attached for stand-alone operation, making the camera suitable for live sports, news gathering or field production, Ikegami reported. 

The Ikegami HLM-1760WR is a 17-inch Full-HD video monitor with very narrow front-to-back dimensions, light weight and low power consumption, Ikegami said. 

It incorporates an LED-backlit 1920 x 1080 pixel LCD 450 candela per square meter high-brightness display panel with 10 bit processing depth, 1500:1 contrast ratio, wide viewing angle, fast motion response, and high quality color reproduction. The monitor is equipped with a range of tools for use in broadcast production. Multi-format SDI, 3G-SDI, HDMI, Ethernet and VBS inputs are provided as standard.

The HLM-2460W incorporates a full 1920 x 1080 pixel high brightness and high contrast LCD panel. This has a wide viewing angle, fast motion response, and high-quality color reproduction, achieving real pixel allocation without resizing, Ikegami said.

Image adjustment capabilities of the UHL-F4000 include noise removal and digital zoom. Key features include haze reduction, image sharpening, vertical image reversal and HD-from-UHD segment selection. A 40 Gbps duplex optical fiber connection communicates between the camera head and CCU, which can be positioned up to six miles apart. The optical fiber can be integrated into one bidirectional core via an optical circulator, and passed through a single-core optical rotary joint used for a small gimbal, the company said.

It offers a simplified, coherent upgrade path for broadcasters and production companies as they progress from SDI to IP, from SDR to HDR and from HD into UHD, including HD/UHD dual-format workflow.
• Ikegami CCU-X100 UHD/HD multi-format camera control unit. The Ikegami CCU-X100 also debuts at NAB Show 2022. NEUSS, Germany—Ikegami plans to spotlight the latest additions to its range of broadcast monitors and cameras, including the UHK-X700 4K camera and BSX-100 base station, at Hamburg Open 2022, scheduled to take place Jan. 19, 2022, at Congress Center Hamburg.

Ikegami also will highlight the UHL-43 compact 4K camera, HQLM-3125 master grade 4K monitor and HLM series HD monitors, the company said.

CINCINNATI—Xavier University has chosen the Ikegami HDK-99 camera as part of an upgrade of its live production facilities used for coverage of athletics. 

The five new complete HDK-99 camera systems will be deployed for live-to-air program production and in-venue videoboard productions at Cintas Center and other venues.

"Dockable cameras were the logical choice because they can be operated in studio, stage or outdoor locations," said Chris Schaaf, Cintas Center's senior associate technical director. 

"Ikegami's HDK-99 camera systems tick every box in terms of image quality, versatility, ease of control and physical robustness," he continued. "They incorporate all the creative tools we desired, while also being easy to use for less experienced operators. Ease of setup, along with fantastic build quality, make them a great choice for college sports where it’s not a matter of if but when the camera will take a hit from someone or something. We’re confident that these systems can stand up to the rigors of sports production.”

One of the primary applications of the new camera systems will be televising Xavier’s intercollegiate athletics. This application can be “very demanding” when it comes to “picture detail, fast action” and the varying video contract needed “for accurate color rendition,” said Schaaf. 

“The cameras produce a good image from the moment they power up,” he said. “A minimal amount of tweaking turns that good image into a great image.”

Protecting its investment against changing technical requirements was a key consideration for Xavier. The new HDK-99 cameras support high-bandwidth 3G-SDI HD production in standard dynamic range (SDR), high dynamic range (HDR) and wide color gamut (WCG). With the purchase of a license key, the cameras can be upgraded to deliver UHD output at the base station from an HD source, “processing very cleanly from 2K to 4K resolution,” he said.

“That makes the transition from HD to UHD production very affordable if or when we transition to the new standard,” he said.

The Ikegami HDK-99 incorporates three 2/3-inch 2.6 megapixel CMOS sensors, each capable of capturing full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution images at greater than 600% dynamic range and a sensitivity of F11 at 60 Hz combined with high signal-to-noise ratio and modulation depth, Ikegami said.

The camera supports 1080p, 1080i and 720p HD formats. The HDK-99 connects to the compact and lightweight BSX-100 base station using up to 6,500 feet of SMPTE camera cable with integral power or up to 6 miles using single-mode fiber and local power, the company said.

An optional board provides 12G SDI outputs from the BSX-100, allowing an affordable transition from HD to UHD production. An optional MoIP board is also available to transition to SMPTE ST 2110 IP connectivity, it said.
The HDK-99 provides an HLG mode conforming to the ITU-R BT.2100 international standard for high dynamic range. Wide color gamut is also supported. Up to five HDR gamma curves can be loaded into the camera for instant switchover to high dynamic range operation in different standards, it said.

NEUSS, Germany—Ikegami has announced the UHK-X700, a major addition to its UNICAM XE 4K system camera series that uses three newly developed 2/3-inch CMOS 4K sensors with global shutters to eliminate rolling shutter distortion and flash-branding artifacts. 

“It [the UHK-X700] provides the high signal quality, versatile connectivity and robust build that are essential in today's multiresolution media world,” said Michael Lätzsch, Broadcast & Professional Video Division manager at Ikegami Electronics (Europe). “That includes full support for high dynamic range imagery with HLG or standard dynamic range, as well as the possibility to independently choose between BT.2020 and BT.709 color spaces.”

Designed to be used in broadcast-quality video production and online streaming applications, the new camera supports high-frame-rate shooting at up to 2x speed in 4K or up to 8x speed in HD via its base station as an option.

An ASIC that encapsulates a wide range of high-grade video processing functions serves as the core of the UHK-700’s electronics. When used with the Ikegami BSX-100 base station, the camera supports simultaneous output in 4K and HD video, including mixed sources, as an option.

The camera head outputs 12G-SDI 4K video directly, allowing the UHK-X700 to be integrated into a wireless system.

Measuring 13.5x9.5x5.9-inches and weighing 11 pounds, the UHK-X700 comes with a B4 lens mount and has an optical sensitivity of F11 when operating at 4K/50p. The camera is designed for use at -4 to 113 degrees Fahrenheit operating temperature and 30-90% non-condensing humidity.

The camera is uniformly balanced and has a low center of gravity. Optional peripherals include the OCP-300 control panel and SE-U430 system expander. Three types of viewfinders from Ikegami are available for the camera: the VFL201D 2-inch LCD, VFL701D 7-inch full-HD LCD, VFE741D 7.4-inch OLED.

NEUSS, Germany—Ikegami has introduced the ULE-315, the latest addition to its ULE series of professional monitors.

The new 31.5-inch monitor provides two 425M-A 3G/HD SDI inputs, Y/Pb/Pr analog component inputs (3x BNC) and a 3G/HD-SDI active loop-through output. HDMI, DVI and VGA inputs are also available, as well as an audio input and RS-422 (RJ45) control interface, the company said.

The monitor's integral encoder is compatible with all commonly used video signal formats from 480i and 480p to 2048x1080p, it said.

"The ULE-315 is a highly versatile Grade III monitor offering SDI connectivity plus a wide range of production-related capabilities at a cost-effective price," said Michael Lätzsch, manager of the Broadcast & Professional Video Division at Ikegami Electronics in Europe.

“We are confident that it will meet the requirements of broadcasters, post-production companies and playout service providers, the majority of whom have a strong investment in SDI infrastructure,” he said.

The ULE-315 can be color-calibrated with measuring probes from Ikegami-recognized manufacturers, the company said.

The display is a 1920x1080-pixel IPS-type AHVA panel delivering Full-HD resolution within +/- 178-degree viewing angles, it said.

The monitor weighs 26.45 lbs. and is 29.3x19.7x6.3 inches. It can be used on a desktop or attached to VESA wall mounts. The ULE-315 operates from 100 to 240 volts AC mains and has a 50 watt rated power consumption, Ikegami said.

MAHWAH, N.J.—Ikegami recently launched the UHL-F4000 4K/HD 3-CMOS multipurpose separate optics two-piece camera, and the BSX-100 3G fiber base station.

The UHL-F4000 features a compact, lightweight and low power consuming camera head (optical block), which makes it especially well-suited for helicopter camera applications, the company said.

The camera, the successor to the HDL-F3000, is equipped with Global Shutter CMOS sensors that capture images clear from geometric distortion during still frame analysis and free from flash band effects. It is also able to output 4K and cutout HD images while offering the low-light capability of the F3000, said Ikegami.

The 3.3-pound (1.5kg) camera head has an image sharpening function to boost an object’s edge level when zoomed in upon. The feature is useful, for instance, when zooming in on a car license plate, it said.

Variable contrast control allows users to reproduce clear images with the right contrast, even when visibility is impeded by fog and smoke. The camera’s remote control panel offers a variable control so operators can adapt the camera in real time to optimum noise reduction for night shoots with high gain, the company said.

The UHL-F4000 is equipped with a digital zoom from 1.1x to 10x in increments of 0.1x and exhibits a smooth, natural zoom. Combined with the optical zoom, overall zooming appears more natural, it said.

The focus assist function is achieved by placing the edge components of the 4K image on the HD MON OUT signal, making it possible to critically focus 4K images using an HD monitor. It also can output an up-down reversed image making the camera suited for instances when it must be set upside down, it said.

An optical fiber connection between the camera and CCU allows the pair to be separated by up to 6.2 miles (10km), it said.

Ikegami’s new BSX-100 3G fiber base station is a 3U-high half-rack-sized unit that’s easy to integrate into mobile production vehicles and other places where space is limited, Ikegami said.

It is compatible with Unicam HD system cameras, including the HDK-99 and HDK-73. It offers full support for Hybrid Log-Gamma HDR conforming to ITU-R BT.2100.

The BSX-100 can transport separate video, audio and metadata as independent IP multicast streams via its optional plug-in MoIP module for integration into a SMPTE ST 2110 workflow. The option supports uncompressed HD IP output in 10GbE with low latency. Redundancy is achieved using a second SFP interface based on SMPTE ST 2022-7, it said.

An optional built-in HD-to-4K upconverter board enables 4K output support. With the board installed, 12G SDI or 3G Quad Link or 4K MoIP output are available, making it possible for Unicam HD cameras to operate in a 4K workflow. It is also designed to work with future native 4K camera models, Ikegami said.

LAS VEGAS—Ikegami’s slate of 2020 NAB Show products will include a number of new systems that feature 4K, 8K, HDR and IP technology.

Among the new products on tap for the show is the BSX-100 3G Fiber Base Station, a 3U high half-rack sized low-mass unit designed for integration into mobile production vehicles and other limited spaces. The platform is compatible with Unicam HD system cameras, including the HDK-99 and HDK-73, and has options for upgrading from HD to 4K and ST-2110 MoIP interface with its main output in HD or 4K. The BSX-100 also fully supports Hybrid Log-Gamma in conformance with ITU-R BT.2100. Additional features include HDR video and wide color gamut, as well as support for native 4K cameras with flexibility to provide 12G-SDI or quad link 3G-SDI outputs.

Ikegami is also set to debut its UHL-43 multipurpose UHD/HD digital camera, a one-piece UHD digital camera that employs the same 4K-native sensors as the UHK-430 and UHK-435 Unicame XE series cameras. 4K signal outputs from the camera include 12G-SDI and optional 3G-SDI quad link. The camera also incorporates three 2/3-inch 8 megapixel CMOS sensors, each of which can capture 4K-native 3840x2160 resolution images, high sensitivity and high signal-to-noise ratio. Additional features include an HLG mode that is ITU-R BT.2100 compatible and a portable conversion kit with a top handle, 2-inch color viewfinder, shoulder pad and battery bracket.

The ULE-217-HDR 21.5-inch full resolution HDR LCD broadcast monitor is also one of Ikegami’s new products set for the NAB Show. A professional multipurpose monitor, the ULE-217-HDR provides HDR video display, with 3G/HD-SDI and HDMI interface.

MAHWAH, N.J.—A new update to the Genesis mobile production truck of Edmonton-based iLink Media Group will feature six new HDK-73 2/3-inch CMOS Unicam HD cameras from Ikegami, per an announcement from Ikegami.

The HDK-73 will be installed into the Genesis unit, which is used to cover local, national and international events. The cameras feature F12 high sensitivity 2/3-inch CMOS sensors that allow it to work in either 1080i or 720p in the field or studio, as well as being HDR-capbale.

John Philips, chief technology officer and co-owner of iLink Media, specifically pointed out the HDK-73’s picture quality, accurate color representation and rugged design as reasons for their selection.

NEW YORK—Ikegami will arrive in New York City this week for the 2019 NAB Show New York conference with a number of its camera and monitor products that highlight its 4K and CMOS technologies.

One of the products will be the UHK-430 4K camera that is designed for use in both the studio and field and features three 2/3-inch 4K CMOS sensors with RGB prism optics. The camera also comes with AXII ASIC for low power and digital signal processing features and to provide 16-axis color correction from a 3D linear matrix. Other features include five Custom Gamma memories for HDR, 40G transmission, uncompressed 4:4:4 resolution RGB transmission, eight HD channels from CCU to camera, an HD trunk channel from camera to CCU, a Gigabit Ethernet connection and a plug-in output module for 4K signal formats like Quad 3G, 12G and IP.

Another camera tapped for the conference is the HDK-99 3G full digital 3-CMOS HDTV portable camera that has three 2.6 megapixel CMOS image sensors for full HD 1920x1080 resolution. It also features a 600% wide dynamic range and HLG mode that conforms to the ITU-R BT.2100.

On the monitor side, Ikegami will showcase its HQLM-3125X 31-inch 4K/HD multiformat LCD master monitor with a direct backlit 4096x2160 pixel 10-bit resolution UHD LCD panel and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. There is also the HLM-2460W 24-inch HDTV/SDTV full HD pixel multiformat LCD color monitor with a 24-inch full HD 1920x1080 pixel 400cd, 10-bit resolution LCD panel and the ULE-217-HDR 21.5-inch full resolution HDR LCD broadcast monitor that provides HDR display with a 3G/HD-SDI and HDMI interface.

Ikegami will show these products at booth N622 during the 2019 NAB Show New York, which runs from Oct. 16-17 at the Javits Convention Center.

AMSTERDAM—Ikegami today announced it will showcase its new 4K Media-over-IP gateway for the UHK-430 studio camera for the first time in Europe during IBC 2019, Sept. 13-17, at the RAI in Amsterdam.

The module, which is designed to slot into the camera’s CCU-420 control unit, enables a variety of signals, including 4K UHD, intercom and return-video feeds, to be exchanged between the control unit and a local IP network hub over a lightweight optical fiber rather than multiple SDI cables, the company said.

Users may transport uncompressed video via an integral optical interface via one 25 GbE or two 10 Gbe SFP modules. Redundancy is easily implemented, Ikegami said.

An HD option is available for the Media-over-IP module for delivery of 2160p, 1080p and 1080i via IP and SDI simultaneously. Two 12G SDI outputs are also available.

The UHK-430 is a 4K-native studio camera with simultaneous HDR and SDR processing. It relies on three 2/3-inch CMOS sensors to produce 3840x2160 UHD resolution. It offers the depth of field needed for studio and outdoor production, Ikegami said.

It is outfitted with a B4 bayonet mount compatible with 2/3-inch HD lenses. The optional SE-U430 expander accommodates large studio an OB lenses.

The camera relies on the newly developed AXII processor, which allows for 40 Gb/s uncompressed, full-bandwidth video transmission, the company said.

The AXII processor drives the camera’s 16-axis color correction and focus assist for 4K and HD video. BT.2020 color space is supported in 4K mode, and BT.709 color space is supported in HD modes.

LAS VEGAS—Ikegami will debut new products and accessories that showcase the company’s advances in 4K, 8K, IP and HDR technology at the 2019 NAB Show.

Ikegami says it announced the introduction of a new 4K camera at the show. Another new product debut is an optional MoIP interface for the Ikegami CCU-430. This rear plug-in module provides 25G or dual 10G IP interface together with a pair of 12G, 3G or 1.5G SDI outputs.

Ikegami will showcase its UHK-430 and UHK-435 portable and hard studio 4K cameras, from the company’s Unicam XE camera series. Designed for use in the studio and field, the UHK-430 and UHK-435 feature three 2/3-inch 4K (3840x2160) CMOS sensors with RGB prism optics, for “Real 4K” resolution from 24 million pixels (8 million per sensor).

The company will also demo its HDK-99 3G-Capable Full Digital 3-CMOS HDTV Portable Camera, which Ikegami says represents the elite offering from the company’s expansive Unicam HD line. It employs three 2.6 Megapixel high performance CMOS image sensors for superb picture quality capable of capturing full HD 1920x1080 resolution. Along with a wide dynamic range of more than 600 percent, the HDK-99 captures superb HDTV video with its horizontal resolution of 1000TVL, SNR of 62dB or more, and high sensitivity of F11 (59.94Hz).

HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) mode is featured on the HDK-99, conforming to the ITU-R BT.2100 International standard for HDR. HLG makes it possible to expand the range represented from dark to bright, providing superb bright pictures with High Dynamic Range, while achieving rich colors with wide color gamut. A native multi-format camera, the HDK-99’s CMOS sensors support progressive and interlace readout. It natively supports 1080i /59.94, 1080i/50, 720p/59.94, 720p/50, 1080p/29.97, 1080p/25 and 1080p/23.98. It also supports 1080p/59.94, 1080p/50, 1080i/119.88, and 1080i/100 3G HDTV formats.

From its Unicam HD camera series, Ikegami will highlight its HDK-73 camera, featuring F12 high sensitivity 2/3-inch CMOS sensors with exceptional picture quality in either 1080i or 720p in a cost-effective camera system. The HDK-73 has docking style construction allowing studio configuration with fiber or triax base stations, as well as self-contained operation for wireless or onsite recording applications. Fiber configurations include a choice of SMPTE or OpticalCon connectors. There is a full range of control panels from simple to sophisticated.

Also part of the company’s Unicam HD product line, Ikegami’s HC-HD300 is a docking style camera that represents its most affordable HD studio camera system, according to the company. Ready for the studio or field, it features a 1/3-inch 3-CMOS optical block design.

Ikegami will also introduce virtual control capabilities for its new and existing camera lines. VCP (Virtual Control Panel) is a software-based PC application providing operational control of multiple cameras. VMP (Virtual Master Panel) is another newly available application from Ikegami, providing centralized management of all cameras within the camera control network.

Ikegami is also introducing a new HDR option for its full HD HLM 60 Series of monitors. The HLM-2460W 24-inch HDTV/SDTV full HD pixel multi-format LCD color monitor has a 24-inch full HD 1920X1080 pixel 400cd, 10-bit resolution LCD panel. Offering very narrow front-to-back dimensions, light weight and low power consumption, the HLM-2460W provides SDI, 3G-SDI, HDMI, and analog composite inputs as standard. Ikegami will demonstrate its HQLM series with advanced HDR capabilities, complying with HLG and PQ (SMPTE ST 2084), among other standards. They include the Ikegami HQLM-3120W 31-inch 4K/HD multi-format LCD monitor equipped with two channels of 12G-SDI input as standard, for efficient configuration with 4K equipment such as cameras and switchers. In addition, it includes 3G-SDI, HD-SDI and HDMI inputs as standard, with the flexibility to work with various interfaces in the image production field. Ikegami’s HQLM-3125X 31-inch 4K/HD multi-format LCD master monitor is also part of the series, employing a direct backlit 4096x2160 pixel 10-bit resolution UHD LCD panel with a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. The Ikegami HQLM-1720WR 17-inch 4K/HD multi-format LCD monitor is equipped with the same complement of inputs as the other 4K models in a compact rack mount size.

Targeting 8K, Ikegami will return with its SHK-810 8K ultra high-definition television (UHDTV) portable camera, which it developed in collaboration with Japan Broadcast Corporation (NHK). The compact, lightweight SHK-810 employs a 33 million pixel Super 35mm CMOS sensor with PL lens mount, achieving a limiting horizontal resolution of 4000 TV lines. It utilizes standard SMPTE hybrid camera cable between head and CCU with available portable and studio viewfinders. Pictures from the SHK-810 can be viewed on a prototype Ikegami designed 55-inch full 8K resolution LCD monitor.

MAHWAH, N.J.—Responding to what it says is an increase in demand for its remote services, Thistle Communications has announced that it has recently purchased four new Ikegami HDK-55 full digital HDTV cameras.

The new quartet of cameras is the latest addition from Ikegami, already having in its tool kit the HDK-95C cameras, which can effectively be paired together for shoots. According to partner and General Manager Jim Thistle, the HDK-55s will serve as part of a second HDK-55 flypack for deployment on the company’s small- to mid-size mobile units.

The first assignment that the HDK-55s were used for at Thistle was for coverage of Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta.

FACEBOOK AND ESPORTS

These cameras’ first few productions put them in front of a lot of people, right away. A few examples of content that they captured include “Make Up or Break Up” on Facebook Live, which happened to be the first live multi-camera show in the history of Facebook. They’ve also been deployed for productions including “Movie Night with Karlie Kloss” for Freeform, “History of Horror” for AMC, “MasterClass” sessions, projects for FX and EA Sports, and much more.

Video content that’s centered on eSports is a booming market and the UHK-430 has been a huge hit with our clients in that vertical. Usually, when you point a camera at a monitor wall, which we frequently do for e-gaming shows, you’ll get noticeable aliasing, moire-ing and often other artifacts being picked up. LAS VEGAS—Ikegami is set to reveal its new HDK-99 3G-Capable (3-CMOS) HDTV Portable Camera at the 2018 NAB Show. As the successor to Ikegami’s HDK-95C, the HDK-99 employs three 2.6 Megapixel high-performance CMOS image sensors for full 1920x1080 HD picture quality, 1000TVL horizontal resolution, SNR of 62dB or more and F11 (59.94Hz) sensitivity.

With its wide dynamic range of over 600 percent, the HDK-99 features an HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) mode that conforms to the ITU-R BT.2100 standard for HDR. HLG can expand the range represented from dark to bright and provide bright pictures with HDR, while achieving rich colors with wide color gamut.

It features native support for a wide range of progressive and interlace formats; a lens aberration correction function that minimizes the loss of resolution and colored edges; and a Quick EZ focus assist that enables operators to make critical focus adjustments. With its docking-style construction, the HDK-99 can be outfitted with several adapters and CCU’s, base stations and control panels.

The HDK-99 also incorporates AXII, Ikegami’s next-generation high-speed digital video processor for HD, 4K, and 8K cameras. AXII performs high-speed processing of super high resolution video signals in multiple formats and frame-rates, with high reliability and low power consumption. The AXII DSP also incorporates a real-time 3D color matrix function for precise color adjustment and 16 axes of the color gamut can be fine-tuned in hue and saturation for live, multi-camera production.

LAS VEGAS—Ikegami will introduce UHK-435, a 2/3-inch/3-CMOS sensor-based 4K/HD full studio camera, at the 2018 NAB Show. It provides 4K-resolution via three 2/3-inch 4K (3840x2160) CMOS sensors, with 8 million pixels per sensor, totaling 24 million pixels.

UHK-435

As the full-size, studio version of Ikegami’s UHK-430 4K camera—from its Unicam XE series—the UHK-435 captures the extended depth-of-focus of the 2/3-inch format, with RGB prism optics and utilization of B4 studio and field box lenses.

The UHK-435 delivers wide dynamic range and wide color gamut, fully supporting HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) and conforming to HDR International Standard ITU-R BT.2100. The UHK-435 is compatible with Ikegami UNICAM XE series peripherals, such as the CCU-430 camera control unit, VFL701D 7-inch full HD LCD viewfinder and VFE741D 7.4-inch OLED viewfinder. Viewfinders can be positioned close to the extended line of the optical axis, with interfaces for 4K signal protocols, including Quad 3G-SDI, 12G SDI and IP.

Showgoers will also see Ikegami’s new SHK-810 8K ultra high-definition television camera, developed with Japan Broadcast Corporation. This breakthrough portable camera employs a 33 million-pixel Super 35mm CMOS sensor with PL lens mount, delivering 4,000 TV lines of horizontal resolution.

With its lightweight design, it utilizes standard SMPTE hybrid camera cable between head and CCU. Imagery captured by the SHK-810 camera can be viewed on an Ikegami 55-inch 8K-resolution LCD (prototype) monitor.

Ikegami also plans to disclose details about a new monitor line closer to the show.

MAHWAH, N.J.—Sports are a team effort, and SNY has brought in some new additions to its production team with eight Ikegami HDK-95C full digital portable CMOS cameras and five HDL-57 companion POV cameras to its Manhattan studios.

SNY has placed three HDK-95C cameras on robotic heads in both its Studio 31 and Studio 41, plus a jib fitted with an HDL-57. Each studio also has a roaming HDK-95C. Two additional HDL-57s offer shots of the Manhattan skyline.

Part of Ikegami’s Unicam HD line, the HDK-95C is equipped with native multi-format 2.5 million pixel, 2/3-inch CMOS sensors. It features an upgrade path to 24p and 3G formats, including 1080/60p and 4:4:4 24p. The camera is 4K-ready with the Ikegami BS-98 4K multi-format base station.

The HDL-57 is a one-piece POV camera that utilizes the same CMOS sensors and Ikegami digital processing as Unicam HD cameras, something SNY said was important in its selection. Complete control is available using the same network control system as the studio cameras.

SNY uses its new cameras in its role as the official TV home for the New York Mets and New York Jets.

NEW YORK—Camera and production equipment manufacturer Ikegami will have some of its latest cameras and monitors on display for NAB Show New York attendees this year.

UHK-430

One of the Ikegami cameras set to be on display is the UHK-430 4K camera from its Unicam XE camera series. It is designed for use in the studio and field, and features three 2/3-inch 4K CMOS sensors with RGB prism optics for “Real 4K” resolution from 24 million pixels. The camera is equipped with the latest AXII ASC for low power and digital signal processing features. It also enables five Custom Gamma memories for HDR transfer characteristics, including HLG and iLog. The UHK-430 employs 40G transmission using standard SMPTE hybrid fiber/copper camera cable, uncompressed 4:4:4 resolution RGB transmission, with eight HD channels from CCU to camera, and one HD trunk channel from camera to CCU. A Gigabit Ethernet connection is available on the camera for external use.

Ikegami also has accessories for the UHK-430 and other Unicam XE models, including HDR compatibility; three new viewfinders; and the SE-U430 system expander.

A new addition to the Unicam HD series of cameras will also be shown, the HDK-73. The camera has F12 high sensitivity 2/3-inch CMOS sensors that can shoot in either 1080i or 720p. It features docking style construction for studio configuration with fiber or triax base stations, as well as self-contained operation for wireless or onsite recording applications. Fiber configurations include a choice of SMPTE or OpticalCon connectors. Other new features include Quick EZ Focus assist, CAC chromatic aberration correction and hybrid log gamma.

A pair of new Ikegami monitors are also set for a demonstration. The HLM-960WR is a multi-format 9-inch monitor with Full HD eight-bit LCD panel and LED backlight. It includes a standard 3G-SDI input, high-performance Liquid Crystal Panel, diverse input sources, compatibility with embedded audio, DC operation, built-in marker function, user marker display function and shadow function.

The other monitor is the HEM-2570W 25-inch Full HD OLED Grade-1 master monitor from Ikegami’s next generation Grade-1 monitors. It supports 10 patterns x 10 scenes for use makers, a USB terminal for support of functions including auto setup, save an image, full-screen capturing and mouse connection for menu navigation.

MAHWAH, N.J.—Ikegami is bringing its newly launched UHK-435 camera, an addition to its Unicam XE series, at IBC 2017, along with additional updates to its existing product lines.

UHK-435

The UHK-435 is a 2/3-inch 3-CMOS sensor 4K/HD studio camera that can capture the extended depth of field needed for studio and outdoor production and can be used with B4 bayonet-mount large studio or OB lenses. The camera delivers wide dynamic range and wide color gamut with full support for Hybrid Log-Gamma conforming to HDR international standard ITU-R BT. Unicam XE series products like CCU-430 camera control unit, VFL701D 7-inch full HD LCD viewfinder and VFE741D 7.4-inch OLED viewfinder are fully compatible with the UHK-435.

Ikegami will also feature its new addition to the Unicam HD camera series, the HDK-73. The HDK-73 now has HDR compatibility, features F13 high sensitivity 2/3-inch CMOS sensors in either 1080i or 720p and a HLG hybrid log gamma for HDR picture origination.

Additional products expected to be shown are the CCU-430 with a new 12G-SDI interface option; the 4K HQLM-3120W monitor; and the HLM-1760WR and HLM-960WR HD 60 series monitors. Ikegami will also have prototypes for its new 4K HDR monitor and 4K POV camera for robotic or unmanned studio operation.

Ikegami will be located at booth 12.A31 during IBC 2017, which runs from Sept. 15-19 in Amsterdam.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—Our schedule is intense at Go Heels Productions, the video production arm of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There are 28 Division 1 sports on campus for us to cover ; that amounts to more than 200 live events per academic year—everything from volleyball to field hockey and lacrosse, as well as our men’s basketball team.

Tar Heel fans have high expectations, not just for their teams but for the quality imaging that Go Heels Productions provides. Meeting their consistently high standards and anticipating the 2019 launch of the ACC Network, we chose Ikegami HDK-95C Full Digital Portable CMOS cameras for live broadcasts.

Students often operate the HDK-95C cameras for Go Heels Productions.

We determined our selection on three factors: quality, reliability and value. Our eight Ikegami HDK-95C cameras hit all three targets, providing an excellent balance that allows us to make the most of our varying production levels and crew sizes. Our camera operators, shaders, network partners and audience all love the depth and color of the imagery that these cameras produce. Knowing the HDK-95C is rugged enough to fire reliably via SMPTE fiber transmission—even if the camera head is a mile away from the CCU—is huge. We have too many events going on to stop and troubleshoot for hours at a time, especially on a day when we’re setting up five cameras for baseball or six for football.

4K AND CONTROL

Currently we produce video in 720p, but we’re 4K-ready with eight of the Ikegami BS-98 4K multiformat base stations to go along with our HDK-95C cameras. We didn’t want to be painted into a corner without an upgrade path when 4K starts seeing broader adoption and the BS-98 provides us with the flexibility to expand.

The HDK-95C controls were also a key consideration—many of our camera operators are undergraduate students who may not be highly skilled yet but are eager to learn. The functionality of the HDK-95C allows them to capably operate the camera without overwhelming them. As they develop and expand their skills, the cameras have extensive capabilities for them to explore. Of course, our professional freelancers also feel right at home.

STRONG AND SUPPORTED

Shooting sports at UNC means frequent exposure to challenging conditions. There can be 100-degree temperatures (we shot a football game in the middle of a hurricane), and they might be shuttled across campus on the back of a golf cart. The HDK-95C cameras have proven robust enough to withstand all that.

Along the way, Ikegami’s service has been fantastic. The support we’ve received, starting with training and commissioning, was a major factor in our recent decision to double our inventory from four HDK-95C’s to eight.

The ability to purchase new cameras doesn’t come along often at academic institutions, which makes it critical to get it right the first time. With Ikegami HDK-95C cameras, we’ve made the most of our upgrade budget, training the next generation of camera operators and broadcast professionals on the next generation of equipment.

NEUSS, GERMANY—A deal has been reached between Ikegami and SAM that will see Ikegami take over as a reseller partner for SAM.

SAM products that are included in the agreement are the IQMIX IP/SDI transceiver modules and SAM’s range of production switchers, including the Kahuna and Kula 1-3M/E range. The SAM gear will now be available for use with Ikegami’s UHK-430 4K camera.

The agreement covers the Americas, APAC, CIS, EMEA and most Asian countries.

MAYWOOD, N.J.—Ikegami Electronics USA has named Toshihisa Mitsuoka as its new president and CEO, according to a press release on Sunday. Mitsuoka has been with Ikegami for 24 years, which has included two stints in the U.S., one from 1997-2005 and the other from 2013 to present.

With Ikegami, Mitsuoka has overseen the Business Development Division for Ikegami USA throughout North, South and Central America. He has also previously served as the company’s East Asia, Overseas Sales Department, Sales and Business Development Division.

“It has been an extreme honor to serve with Ikegami USA for over a decade, and to be appointed as the president and CEO,” Mitsuoka said in the official statement.

LAS VEGAS—At the 2017 NAB Show, Ikegami will exhibit a wide range of cameras, including the HDK-73, the latest in its Unicam HD series. The HDK-73 features F12 high-sensitivity, 2/3-inch CMOS sensors, and exceptional 1080i or 720p picture quality, as well as Quick EZ Focus assist, CAC chromatic aberration correction and HLG hybrid log gamma for HDR picture origination.

Ikegami will also display the UHK-430 4K camera from its Unicam XE series. Designed for studio or field use, the UHK-430 provides true 4K-imagery. It features three 2/3-inch 4K (3840x2160) CMOS sensors with RGB prism optics for “Real 4K” resolution from 24 million pixels (8 million per sensor). The UHK-430 is also switchable between 4K and 2K formats, and can output 4K and 2K simultaneously, with a 2K cutout from the 4K-picture. A plug-in output module allows for flexible 4K signal formats including Quad 3G, 12G, and IP.

There will also be the SHK-810 8K ultra high-definition television (UHDTV) camera, co-developed with Japan Broadcast Corporation (NHK), which represents a significant size reduction, lightweight design, and operation comparable to current broadcast cameras. It employs a 33 million-pixel Super 35mm CMOS sensor with PL lens mount, achieving a limiting horizontal resolution of 4000 TV lines, which can be viewed on an Ikegami 55-inch full 8K resolution (prototype) LCD monitor.

The company’s HDK-95C HD portable digital, 4K-ready Unicam HD camera, now with optional HDR compatibility also has a spot reserved. The 4K Super Resolution Converter provides a simultaneous 4K output when the camera is operating in a 1080p format, such as 1080p/59.94Hz, and Ultra HD band image enhancement is provided for the 4K signal.

MAYWOOD, N.J.—Erin Rice and Dave Pavlik will be updating their business cards with new titles, as the two were recently appointed to new positions with Ikegami. Rice received a promotion to the position of sports and entertainment sales manager, while Pavlik has joined the company as its Northern Regional sales manager.

Rice previously served as Ikegami’s Midwest sales manager, overseeing the Midwest and Canada. He now takes over this newly created position, where he will be the primary contact for broadcasters, content creators and system integrators in the sports, entertainment and House of Worship fields. Rice will also coordinate with Ikegami regional sales managers as a dedicated resource in these fields.

Pavlik comes to Ikegami after holding account management positions with Fletcher Camera and Fletcher Sports. He also has experience as the regional sales manager for broadcast and professional products with Canon Broadcast Lenses. Pavlik will be based in Chicago and will oversee northern and central states in the U.S.

LEXINGTON, KY.—Rupp Arena is the home court of the University of Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team. The 23,000-seat facility is constantly upgrading to meet the expectations of the team’s fan base, which not only expects to have an NBA arena-type experience, but to see pictures on the large LED screens consistent with the quality of their home viewing experience.

We recently added a new LED scoreboard/HD video/advertising board, measuring 35-feet wide on each side by 30-feet tall. Four Ikegami HDK-95C full digital portable CMOS camera systems and two Ikegami HDL-57 digital compact above-the-rim cameras in-house are in use to capture high-quality game footage—but that’s not the only key component for accomplishing this goal.

Monitoring is another key link in the chain, and we have two highly precise solutions with our Ikegami HEM-1770WR 17-inch full HD OLED Grade-1 master monitor and HLM-1751WR 17-inch HD multiformat LCD color monitor. These monitors are necessary to provide the best picture and correct colors on all of our LED large screens throughout the facility.

At Rupp Arena, our shader uses the HEM-1770WR OLED master monitor to be certain the cameras are matched correctly, our shots are in focus, and the total system is showing us the exact same colors as the fans are seeing it live. Meanwhile, the HLM-1751WR LCD monitor is on hand to provide a grade 1 LCD monitor with wide viewing angle, superior brightness/contrast and accurate color reproduction. While the master OLED monitor displays the outgoing program to the arena’s LED displays, the shader often uses our HLM-1751WR monitor to critically view any of the cameras, ME’s, servers, CG, or replays.

After first seeing these monitors at the NAB Show, we knew we needed them at Rupp Arena. Having an OLED monitoring system that could complement our Ikegami CMOS cameras was an obvious choice. OLED is the latest technology, and as a result, the HEM-1770WR displays the truest colors and black level. I always recommend that a video production plant have at least one OLED as a master monitor in their system on the final output.

PAST EXPERIENCE

We’ve been an Ikegami camera house since 2001, but these were our first Ikegami monitors. All of our monitors were CRT until we converted to HD last season—now we have multi-viewers and large screens in our control room for the director, replay, and server, plus a second switcher for the second director, graphics operator and sound operator.

One reason that we’ve been an Ikegami house for so long is the sales and service support that we get from the company. Whenever I have a question, I know that I will get a quick response from my sales contact. I have a direct contact for technical issues, and if I need a part repaired I know I can receive a loaner part until mine is fixed. It’s great to know that we can depend on Ikegami’s support, as well as depend on the monitors themselves.

My philosophy about master reference monitors is that you only need one, but you need to have the best that you can buy. With our new scoreboard, our Ikegami monitors are all the more important to getting an accurate look for everything that we’re displaying.

AMSTERDAM—Ikegami, the manufacturer of broadcast television equipment, will be making IBC debuts for its new UHK-430 4K-native portable broadcast camera, its HQLM-3120W 31 inch 4K Broadcast Quality Monitor, its new HDL-F3000 Multi-Format Ultra-Low-Light Camera and MCP-300 Network Master Control Panel.

UHK-430

The new UHK-430 4K-native portable broadcast camera uses three 4K-native 2/3 inch 8 megapixel CMOS sensors, giving it the ability to shoot a 3840 x 2160 UHD resolution video. The UHK has a new processor known as the AXII, which helps reduce power consumption and delivers a 16-axis color correction. The camera can support a choice of three types of Ikegami viewfinders: the 7.4-inch OLED VFE741D, the 7-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution LCD VFL701D LCD and the 2-inch portable LCD VFL201D.

Ikegami’s new HQLM-3120W 31 inch 4K Broadcast Quality Monitor is designed to be used as a 4K master reference monitor in television studios, control rooms, playout centers and postproduction suites. The monitor is LED-illuminated, has a 4096 x 2160 resolution, a 10-bit processing depth and is 31.1 inches of LCD screen. Signals can be connected via four 3G-SDI inputs, a 12G-SDI 4K input, a 3G/HD-SDI input and an HDMI input. The HQLM-3120W can also act as a waveform monitor and vectorscope.

Ikegami’s new HDL-F3000 Multi-Format Ultra-Low-Light Camera produces color video under wide range of night or daytime conditions. The camera has image adjustment capabilities like haze removal, backlight correction and digital zoom. The camera head measures 100 x 123 x 80 mm and weighs 1kg. The HDL-F3000 employs three 2/3 inch 2.6 million pixel MOS sensors in a RGB prism configuration.

The MCP-300 Network Master Control Panel can be used under Ethernet based control as well as with Ikegami’s own conventional ICCP control and Arcnet based control. The control panel allows for simultaneous master control of up to 10 cameras and up to 100 source cameras can be selected.

NEW YORK—Manhattan Center Productions (MCP) stands as one of New York City’s most versatile media production complexes. In the heart of midtown at 34th St. and 8th Ave.—and with roots that go all the way back to 1906 and the legendary Roger Hammerstein—our facility has attributes that no one else in the world can offer.

That starts with the historic Hammerstein, a mid-size venue that looks as beautiful as it sounds. Our Grand Ballroom is frequently booked by video productions for its size and HD connectivity, which leads directly to the control rooms of our well-equipped TV1 and TV2 studios.

COLLABORATIVE EFFORT

MCP credits the HDK-97ARRI cameras with providing a more “film like” look to shoots. A common thread throughout the facility is Ikegami cameras. At the beginning of 2016, we had an inventory of more than 25 Ikegami cameras. In April, however, we made a significant addition to our offerings with four new Ikegami HDK-97ARRI cameras. This quartet of cameras makes MCP even more flexible than ever before.

We were drawn to the HDK-97ARRI by its pedigree. This is a broadcast-style production camera with digital cinema characteristics, created as a joint effort between Ikegami and ARRI. With the HDK-97ARRI, it’s now possible to employ a large format sensor in multiple camera operation, which makes it a true best-of-both-worlds proposition for multi-camera studio shoots.

The core of the system is an ARRI Super 35mm CMOS sensor with associated support circuitry, which provides cinema-style shallow depth-of-focus and exceptional dynamic range, as well as progressive frame rates such as 23.98p. That’s paired with broadcast-grade distribution from the Ikegami side, which provides fiber transmission using up to 2 km SMPTE hybrid fiber/copper camera cable.

‘MUST-HAVE’ QUALITY

We were excited when we heard about the technology, but what made it a “must-have” for MCP was what we saw on our monitors. The imagery that the HDK-97ARRI produces is stunning. With its shallow depth of field, you get an extremely sharp image in the front while everything behind it gets softer.

It’s a very pleasing look that makes video appear much more like film, both in our control room and more importantly on viewers’ HD televisions at home, on mobile devices or online.

Providing our clients with the option to craft another look was the impetus for committing to these cameras—we especially felt that the HDK-97ARRI would be a perfect complement to our Ikegami HDK-97C Digital 3G Portable CMOS cameras.

We’ve already seen the investment pay off, with the HDK-97ARRI being selected to shoot the Season 7 finale of Spike TV’s “Ink Master.” Broadcast live from MCP’s Grand Ballroom, the show looked incredible thanks to the extremely rich detail that the HDK-97ARRI provides. Our HDK-97ARRI’s were also specifically requested by the executive producer team of “Black and White,” a new series on A&E starring comedians Christian Finnegan and Sherrod Small.

As a production complex, we feel our job goes beyond simply offering crews, space and technical infrastructure. We want to have innovative offerings that give our clients increased creative options and an even better chance for their vision to succeed. The Ikegami HDK-97ARRI is an important way that MCP is giving them more.
