CRANBURY, N.J.—IHSE USA, a manufacturer of keyboard, video and mouse (KVM) and display management systems marking its 40th year in business, said it has named Michael Spatny as its new managing director and CEO, part of a broader transition in its leadership team.

Spatny, the company’s chief sales officer, succeeds Dr. Enno Littman, who will remain with IHSE as an adviser and business ambassador.

Justin Strazdas will also join IHSE as video sales engineer in the U.S.

Spatny joined IHSE as head of sales and marketing in 2018 and was named CSO in 2019. He brings many years of senior management in the high-tech industry to his role, the company said, with a special focus on building and leading international sales organizations and channel partner networks and a background in communication engineering.

Strazdas, who held several roles at Roland, brings over a decade of AV experience to IHSE with deep expertise in product support, training and system design for broadcast and postproduction environments, the company said.

IHSE USA, founded in 1984 by three university graduates in a small garage, has grown into a multi-vertical supplier of KVM solutions with more than 1,000 products and over 150 employees in Europe, Asia in the U.S. in such verticals as aviation, broadcasting, maritime, entertainment and government/defense, the company said.

CRANBURY, N.J.—IHSE USA today will highlight its KVM extender and switch solutions at the 2024 NAB Show New York, Oct. 9-10, at the Javits Center in New York. 

The company will show the kvm-tec Scalable Pro Line for 10G/multiview applications, IHSE’s Draco line of KVM matrix switch systems and its KVM solutions for command and control as well as video-wall applications. IHSE USA solutions are well-suited to esports and offer flexibility, connectivity and high performance, it said.

“Esports technology involves collecting and processing big amounts of data and displaying it in a realistic environment without loss of video or delay in mouse movements,” IHSE USA Marketing Manager Dan Holland said. 

“Latency and packet loss are the biggest concerns when it comes to ensuring fair competition, so it is vital that integrators involved in setting up broadcast events for esports provide stable and low-latency environments no matter if the computer systems are connected remotely or directly to offline computers at the venue,” he said. “IHSE offers a full range of KVM extenders and switch products supporting these higher frame rates, which will be showcased at this year’s NAB Show New York.”

The kvm-tec Scalable Pro Line supports networked 4K multiviewer capabilities over a 10G network switch. Features include control and management of up to 16 computer sources on a single display via an individual keyboard and mouse. Moving the mouse cursor inside the gridded cell and clicking gives the operator full control of the source. Up to four scalable receivers can be network-bonded to allow up to 64 sources across the four displays, IHSE said.

The Draco ultra DP, a DisplayPort KVM extender, supports high frame rates up to 1080p240. The device constitutes a new generation of digital KVM signal extensions. It uses the Lightweight Image (Lici) codec, developed with the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits. This coding technology ensures brilliant image quality at the highest video resolutions with outstanding color accuracy (deep color-ready). The extender solution supports resolutions of 32:9 at 144 hertz or 16:9 at 240 Hz up to 5 km.

At the booth, visitors will see a variety of KVM solutions for control-room applications. For large video walls, IHSE offers the Draco MV42 four-port multiview display processor that combines 4K60 multi-image video processing with remote keyboard/mouse control. It is offered in HDMI or DisplayPort with support for either single-head or dual-head sources. 

With the new kvm-tec Scalable Multiview Commander, up to 16 sources in full HD or 4K can be combined and displayed on a single 4K monitor and controlled via one mouse and keyboard. Compatible with standard 10G network switches and capable of supporting up to 2,000 endpoints, users can select any 16 sources and manage them directly via OSD menu shortcuts or directly through kvm-tec’s switching manager software.

IHSE USA plans to bring the latest in its KVM solutions to the upcoming NAB Show New York, set for Oct. 19-20 at the Javits Convention Center.

This fall, the company plans to showcase solutions that range from high end to lower cost, from high-frame-rate e-sports extenders to streamlined KVM desktop solutions. The IHSE booth will include the company’s most recent KVM, video extension and management solutions as well as HFR extender technology.

A key provider of extenders for e-sports gaming computers, the company plans to showcase the line of HFR extenders that it developed that support transports of up to 250 Hz while simultaneously supporting 60 Hz. IHSE addressed the dual transport problem when its introduced Synchronized Sequential Frame Rate Conversion (SSFRC) technology within its Draco ultra series of DisplayPort and HDMI extenders. The SSFRC technology combines HFR computer actions and broadcast transmission workflows into one extender system, a step that simplifies onsite infrastructure but helps ensure that the same content is available at the same quality level throughout.

At the show, the company’s Draco DPS 4X1 KVM desktop series will also be on display, which can be customized to support single-, dual-, triple- or quad-head computer systems. The DPS 4X1 base unit is a two-slot desktop chassis with support for USB-HID, USB 2.0 and optional audio connections for up to four computers to a single monitor. 

Also on display: the kvm-tec’s Scalable line, which supports networked multiviewer capabilities and includes the ability to control four computer sources up to 120 km away simultaneously through one keyboard and mouse; and the new Draco tera FLEX series of secure KVM matrix systems, designed to smooth the installation process for those preconfiguring network ports as inputs or outputs. 

CRANBURY, N.J.—IHSE USA has introduced the Draco tera KVM-over-IP Gateway that enables organizations to bridge multiple KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) matrices over existing IP networks within buildings, across campuses and between remote locations. 

Designed with the high level of security and performance offered by the Draco tera KVM system combined with the flexibility and ease of connection of IP-based communications, the new gateway can access remote computers and interact in real-time with minimal latency and no visible artifacts, the company said.

“Now you can securely expand and connect multiple KVM systems across geographical locations with ease,” said Dan Holland, marketing manager of IHSE USA. “Via a LAN or WAN, users have the ability to connect globally to KVM systems as one flat matrix. The gateway currently supports up to eight bi-directional IP connections for bidirectional KVM operations with video resolutions up to 4K, the company said.

The Draco tera IP Gateway delivers a high level of security for transmitted data and leverages IHSE’s Secure Core technology, which prevents direct access to data within the KVM system from the IP network, thereby maintaining the integrity of the KVM system, the company said.

PITTSBURGH—At the NEP Systems Integration Group, we design and build television production, mobile truck, and flypack systems for content producers whose needs change from show to show. We consider every design in light of space, size, weight, and power consumption—and also in terms of flexibility, which is why we equip many of our production systems with KVM technology.

For many of our mid-size mobile production units, we count on KVM switches and extenders from IHSE’s Draco tera and Draco vario. With a simple keyboard command, our operators, engineers, and producers can use their own workstations to connect instantly to and control another device within the truck—with no delay or visual artifacts. By defining and recalling specific connections on a per-show or per-day basis, operators can access just the equipment they need for any production.

Size, density, price point, and flexibility all make the Draco KVM systems a good fit for the mid-size truck niche. With the 6-U Draco chassis, we typically use a CPU card and an extender, or a second card for serial control for much of the equipment. We often just use two pairs of transmitters or two pairs of receivers, but we can get three of those pairs into a 1RU chassis that can go pretty much anywhere.

OPTIMIZED FOR REMOTE

Design engineer Martin Eibeck laid out the KVM system for EN3, our new, twintrailer mobile unit for network sports production. In a more traditional twin-truck combination, the A unit would handle record/replay in addition to production audio and video, but we designed EN3 so that operators in the B trailer can handle record/replay if needed. With an IHSE Draco compact KVM switch providing a matrix of 48 copper ports for A with an additional 16 fiber ports available for B, we use eight-channel Draco CWDM modules to mux and demux KVM signals between the record servers on A and the operators on B. Record/replay workstations are configured with Draco vario KVM DVI combination extenders. This creates a highly flexible mobile operation in which both units can be configured to meet a given show’s requirements; operators can move between B to A, plug their controllers into the KVM serial port, and simply recall their servers without changing wires or moving cables.

The KVM equipment has optimized EN3 for remotely integrated at-home production (REMI) and graphics remote integration (GREMI), two powerful and relatively new approaches that lessen the allow core crew working on site to set up and test the system and, as air time nears, switch all the KVM connections to the remote operators—replay or graphics operators or others — helping to run the show from the broadcaster’s fixed facility.

As we engineer ever-better workflows, we appreciate IHSE’s willingness to help us build each system the way we want it.
