Fremont, California - Friday, 13 September 2019 - Blackmagic Design today announced ATEM Mini a new low cost live production switcher specifically designed to allow live streaming to YouTube and business presentations via Skype. ATEM Mini will be available in November 2019 from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide for US$295.

The ATEM Mini will be demonstrated on the Blackmagic Design IBC 2019 booth 7.B45.

The new ATEM Mini makes it easy to create professional multi camera productions for live streaming to YouTube or innovative business presentations using Skype. Simply connect ATEM Mini and customers can switch live between 4 high quality video camera inputs in dramatically better quality images. Customers can even connect to a computer to present PowerPoint slides or add a gaming console. The built in DVE allows exciting picture in picture effects, perfect for live commentary. There's loads of video effects too. To live stream, ATEM Mini has a USB output that works like a webcam, so customers can connect to any video software. There's also HDMI video out for projectors. Microphone inputs allow high quality desktop and lapel mics for interviews and presentations.

ATEM Mini features a compact control panel based design with all video, audio and control connections on the rear panel. The front panel includes easy to use buttons for selecting sources, adjusting audio inputs, as well as selecting video effects and transitions. The rear panel includes HDMI inputs for connecting cameras or computers, plus additional microphone inputs. The ATEM Mini program is output via an HDMI video out as well as a USB for webcam output. The front panel buttons are large and easy to use by feel, so its even possible to use the switcher while presenting. Customers also get audio mixer buttons for live audio mixing.

ATEM Mini is very easy to use, as customers simply press any of the input buttons labelled 1 to 4 on the front panel to change or cut between video sources. Customers can choose between cut transitions or effects transitions by selecting the cut or auto buttons on the panel. Unlike cut, the auto button tells ATEM Mini to use a selected video effect when switching between inputs. Customers can select from exciting transitions such as a commonly used dissolve, or more dramatic effects such as dip to color, DVE squeeze and DVE push. The DVE is perfect for picture in picture effects and customers can instantly set up different picture positions from the buttons on the control panel. There is even a still store for titles and graphics accessible via external software control.

With 4 independent HDMI inputs, customers can connect up to 4 high quality consumer video cameras. All connected sources will re-sync to the switcher if they operate at different video standards, which means all inputs just work and customers can handle unknown equipment if customers are visiting new venues or locations. Imagine using the low light capability of professional cameras for theater production and music videos.

To ensure the maximum compatibility possible, ATEM Mini features a USB connection that operates as a simple webcam source. That means customers can plug in and instantly get working with any video software. The software is tricked into thinking the ATEM Mini is a common webcam, but it's really a live production switcher. That guarantees full compatibility with all software in full resolution 1080HD quality. Choose any software customers like, such as Open Broadcaster for live streaming, or Skype for point to point presentations. ATEM Mini works with software and platforms such as Open Broadcaster, XSplit Broadcaster, YouTube Live, Facebook Live, Skype, Twitch TV, Periscope, Livestream, Wirecast and more.

The HDMI program output is perfect for connecting ATEM Mini into an external recorder or monitor. ATEM Mini supports recorders such as the HyperDeck Studio Mini and Blackmagic Video Assist. Customers get a high quality output with switcher program video, plus live audio from the internal audio mixer. The HDMI output can even be connected to video projectors in large venues. If customers connect the ATEM Software Panel customers can even change the HDMI output direct from any of the video inputs. There's also a low latency setting allowing output of connected gaming consoles on the HDMI output. If customers enable broadcast style mix effects switching, the HDMI output can be used to preview sources before a transition.

With two independent 3.5mm stereo audio inputs, customers can connect desktop and lapel microphones. With 2 extra stereo audio inputs, customers can ensure a host and guest both have lapel microphones when doing interviews. All audio inputs to ATEM Mini include buttons on the panel for adjusting audio level and enabling inputs into the audio mixer.

The ATEM Software Control app unlocks the hidden power of the ATEM Mini as customers get total control over the switcher features, plus the software is included free for Mac and Windows. ATEM Software Control features a visual switcher user interface with parameter palettes for making quick adjustments. Although customers can normally connect via USB, if customers connect using Ethernet it's possible for multiple users to connect to ATEM Mini using separate copies of ATEM Software Control on different computers. Customers can even save the switcher state as XML files. If customers need clip playback, customers can even control HyperDeck disk recorders via Ethernet.

The built in "media pool" allows loading of up to 20 separate broadcast quality RGBA graphics for titles, opening plates and logos. Customers can even use still frames for complex effects such as graphic wipes. ATEM Mini can even grab stills from the video output and add them to the internal media pool. Customers can easily manage the still store graphic using the included ATEM Software Control app, or customers can download directly from Photoshop software using the ATEM Photoshop plug-in. The Photoshop Plug-in is perfect for graphics that need to change often, such as scoreboards, as customers can update the text and download directly into the switcher, allowing graphics to get on-air fast.

For news or on-set presentation work, ATEM Mini is the perfect choice as it features an ATEM Advanced Chroma Key for high quality chroma or luminance keying, plus an additional downstream linear keyer. Customers can even use it for title overlays simply by using PowerPoint or other software with a green or blue background and the keyer will knock out the green and make the background transparent.

With a built in Fairlight audio mixer, the ATEM Mini makes it possible to do extremely complex live sound mixing. The internal mixer features a total of 12 channels so customers get the ability to mix audio from all sources. 8 mixer channels are de-embedded from the HDMI inputs, while an extra two stereo audio channels are input via the 3.5mm microphone connections on the rear panel. Each input channel features the highest quality 6 band parametric EQ and compressor, limiter, expander and noise gate as well as full panning.

The HDMI output is a true "aux" output so customers can clean switch each of the 4 HDMI inputs or the program feed to this output. Customers can even "direct" switch input 1 to the HDMI output for low latency for eSport. If customers select broadcast style mix effects switching, customers can also output a preview feed, allowing verification of the source before transitioning to it.

These new models feature brighter HDR screens, built in scopes, upgraded batteries, 12G-SDI and much more. The new Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR adds professional monitoring and recording to any SDI or HDMI camera in all HD, Ultra HD, 2K and 4K DCI formats. The new improved design includes innovations such as brighter screens for HDR work, tally indicator, 4 built in scopes, enhanced focus assist features, 3D LUTs and native Blackmagic RAW recording from supported cameras. With 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 on both 5" and 7" models, customers get support for recording from virtually any device in all formats up to 2160p60. A brighter touch screen ensures a better view of their recording when shooting HDR digital film, or when shooting outdoors in sunlight. The new design also features upgraded batteries and supports two standard Sony L-Series batteries. This means Blackmagic Video Assist 12G is incredibly versatile and is the perfect solution for the next generation of digital cinema shoots, live production mastering, broadcast testing and measurement.

There are two models of Blackmagic Video Assist 12G, with each model including an innovative touch screen user interface with deck controls, as well as a large screen to view recordings. The Blackmagic Video Assist 7" 12G model also includes 2 media slots, while both the 5" and 7" models include 12G-SDI for high frame rate Ultra HD, analog inputs for audio, USB-C external disk recording, plus a front panel speaker and side mounted headphone jack. Customers also get 2 rear battery slots for mounting Sony L-Series batteries, so customers have enough power for the brighter HDR screens and higher speed Ultra HD electronics. A 12v universal power supply is included for studio or on location use.

Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR is an ideal upgrade for cameras, as it’s super bright 2500nit display is bigger than the tiny displays found on consumer cameras, plus users are also adding professional focus assist features and better quality file formats. Video Assist is also a great solution for professional cameras because customers can use it to upgrade older broadcast cameras to modern file formats used on the latest editing software. No matter what editing software customers use, Video Assist lets customers support them all, as customers can record in Apple ProRes, Avid DNx and Blackmagic RAW. With both HDMI and 12G-SDI inputs customers can connect it to any consumer camera, broadcast camera or even DSLR cameras. Then, on supported cameras, customers can even upgrade to RAW style workflows with Blackmagic RAW.

The innovative touchscreen LCD user interface provides incredible control. On screen, there are dedicated buttons for play, stop and record, plus a mini timeline for scrolling through their recordings. Customers can even image swipe to jog. The LCD includes a heads up display of timecode, video standard, media status as well as audio meters. Scopes can be enabled via the touch screen as well as focus and exposure assist. Plus customers can load and save 3D LUTs.

Video Assist uses commonly available SD card media, so customers can record to flash memory cards that are easy to obtain. The files are small enough to allow long recordings on standard SD cards or the faster UHS-II cards. The larger Video Assist 12G 7" model even includes 2 SD card slots so customers can swap out any full cards even during recording, allowing infinite length recording. Standard SD cards or the faster UHS-II cards are perfect for broadcast because they are small, high speed and affordable.

If recording to other media types is required, then the USB-C Expansion port lets customers plug in an external flash disk for recording. Imagine adding a Blackmagic MultiDock 10G for easy SSD compatibility with other recorders such as Blackmagic HyperDeck models. Customers even get on screen menus for managing external disks using the touch screen.

Video Assist features a wide range of video and audio connections such as multi-rate 12G-SDI for SD, HD, and Ultra HD SDI devices. HDMI is included for HDMI cameras and monitoring to consumer televisions and video projectors. The 7 inch model features Mini XLR inputs which are provided for audio input from microphones and external audio mixers. Video Assist even includes a 12V DC power connection with locking power connector.

Customers will be ready for the latest HDR workflows with support for the latest HDR standards and an extremely bright screen with a wide color gamut. Plus the high brightness screen makes outdoor shooting in bright sunlight possible. The built in scopes even change to HDR scopes when working in HDR formats. Files are tagged with the correct HDR information then SDI and HDMI inputs will also automatically detect HDR video standards. Static metadata PQ and HLG formats are handled according to the ST2084 standard. The bright LCD has a wider color gamut so it can handle both Rec. 2020 and Rec. 709 colorspaces. The built in Video Assist LCD color gamut can even handle 100% of the DCI-P3 format.

Video Assist features full internal waveform monitoring so customers can ensure compliance to broadcast standards and it also works great as a portable waveform monitoring solution. The waveform display provides a traditional luminance (brightness) levels view of the video inputs or the playback signal. The vectorscope display allows customers to see the intensity of color at 100% SDI reference levels. Customers also get an RGB parade display which is ideal for color correction and checking for illegal levels. Histogram shows the distribution of white to black detail in their images and highlights or shadows clipping. The built in scopes can even be overlaid on live video, or as a small picture in picture view at the top right of the scope.

The SDI and HDMI connections are multi-rate, so handle SD, HD, and Ultra HD. SD formats include NTSC and PAL. 720p HD standards include 720p50 and 59.94p. 1080i HD interlaced formats include 1080i50 and 59.94. 1080p HD formats include 1080p23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94 and 60p. Customers can even do 1080 PsF formats. Ultra HD is supported up to 2160p59.94. Customers can even record 2K and 4K DCI rates up to 25p for digital film work.

Video Assist works with industry standard 17 and 33 point 3D LUT files, or customers can work with the built in LUTs such as Extended Video, Film to Video, Film to Rec.2020 and more.

Video Assist records using standard open file formats so customers don’t have to waste time transcoding media. Recording works in industry standard 10-bit ProRes or DNx files in all formats and from all HDMI or SDI cameras, as well as 12-bit Blackmagic RAW when connected to supported cameras. Best of all media files work on all operating systems.

Blackmagic RAW is a revolutionary new format designed to capture and preserve the quality of the sensor data from cameras. Video Assist supports Blackmagic RAW recording from popular cameras such as Panasonic EVA1 and Canon C300 MK II. This eliminates the problems with popular camera formats such as H.264, which are highly compressed resulting in noise and processing artifacts. It also saves camera settings as metadata so customers can set ISO, white balance and exposure, then override them later while editing, all without any loss of quality. Blackmagic RAW files are also small and fast to use making them easy to work with.

Blackmagic Video Assist 12G includes a built in professional audio recorder that’s much better quality than the audio quality found in most cameras, eliminating the need to carry around extra audio equipment. When working in SDI formats, customers can record 2, 4, 8 or 16 channels of audio in real time. For connecting microphones the Video Assist 7" model has two XLR analog audio inputs with phantom power that support the high definition audio sample rate of 192 kHz at uncompressed 16 and 24 bit per sample. Customers can monitor using on screen audio meters with user selectable VU or PPM ballistics.

Multiple languages are fully supported so customers don't need to learn another language to use it. Support is included for English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, German, French, Russian, Italian, Portuguese and Turkish.

The files from Blackmagic Video Assist 12G are common and are compatible with all operating systems or in most video software. Media can be formatted using ExFAT or HFS+ so customers can easily access the media on computers and access the files like regular disks. DaVinci Resolve is perfect for use with Video Assist because it features editing, color correction, audio post production and visual effects all in one software application.

The new Blackmagic RAW 1.5 update includes Blackmagic RAW Speed Test which is now available on Windows and Linux for the first time. Blackmagic RAW Speed Test is a CPU and GPU benchmarking tool for testing the speed of decoding full resolution Blackmagic RAW frames on their system. Multiple CPU cores and GPUs are automatically detected and used during the test so that customers get accurate and realistic results. Simply select Blackmagic RAW constant bitrate 3:1, 5:1, 8:1 or 12:1 and the desired resolution to perform the test. Results are displayed in an easy to read table that shows how many frames per second the computer can decode for all supported resolutions.

Editors working in Adobe Premiere Pro and Avid Media Composer can now work with Blackmagic RAW files using the free plug-ins found in Blackmagic RAW 1.5. These new plug-ins enable editors to work with Blackmagic RAW directly, so they no longer have to transcode files. That means camera original Blackmagic RAW files can be used throughout the entire workflow. There is no longer a need to create proxy files and conform edits for finishing. These plug-ins bring the quality of RAW in small, modern, GPU and CPU accelerated files that are faster and easier to work with than any other video format.

Best of all, when projects are moved from Premiere Pro or Media Composer into DaVinci Resolve for color correction and finishing, all of the camera RAW metadata and image quality is still there.

Blackmagic URSA Broadcast Update will be demonstrated on the Blackmagic Design IBC 2019 booth #7.B45.

Blackmagic Camera 6.7 Update features a new de-mosaic algorithm that dramatically improves sensor response on URSA Broadcast cameras, resulting in better color fidelity and cleaner images. In addition, new sensor recalibration features improve the overall image quality by compensating for stuck pixels. Image gain controls can now be adjusted in ⅓ stop increments which gives customers finer control so they get cleaner images with less noise.

Blackmagic RAW support has been added to URSA Broadcast. Blackmagic engineers have created a specific sensor profile for the image sensor used in URSA Broadcast so Blackmagic RAW understands how the camera sees images. Blackmagic RAW combines the high end image quality of RAW with the ease of use, speed and file sizes of traditional video formats. Noise management, sensor profiling and edge reconstruction algorithms are used to produce high quality, visually lossless images. Plus, the files are small and all processing is GPU and CPU accelerated, making them fast to use and easy to work with.

Because everything is saved in the Blackmagic RAW file, customers can change camera settings such as gain, white balance, exposure, contrast and saturation after the shoot, all without any loss of quality. Blackmagic RAW also includes non-destructive LUTs that can be applied and saved as metadata in the file while users are shooting. That means customers get broadcast quality images with incredible color that can go straight to air. Best of all, the files still contain all of the camera’s RAW sensor data so customers can always edit them later too.

URSA Broadcast now supports 11 different languages so it can be used internationally. The camera can be set to English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese or Korean. It’s easy to switch to another language so customers can share their camera with other crew when traveling to locations worldwide. When customers switch languages, all on screen overlays, setup menus and monitoring information will be displayed in the selected language.

In addition, this update features image adjustment controls to compensate for B4 lens distortion such as chromatic aberration, along with the ability to remap the VTR and Return buttons on B4 lenses. Press and hold focus controls have also been enabled on the built in touch screen making it faster and easier to accurately focus shots. Plus, URSA Broadcast now supports an even wider range of B4 broadcast and Canon EF lenses than ever before.

This new update also adds new features that broadcast customers have requested such as 720p support on both SDI output and input. Customers also get sidetone adjustments for talkback so camera operators can speak loudly in noisy environments while keeping their voice mixed down in their earpiece. Live level microphone inputs can now also be adjusted. In addition, customers can now lock timecode to the SDI input and jam sync accuracy is greatly improved so that timecode sync is maintained between power cycles.

Support has also been added for HDR metadata packing HLG and PQ transfer characteristics (ST2082-10) via SDI. Customers can now disable or remap the camera’s function buttons, as well as disable the HFR button to prevent accidentally changing the frame rate between shots. For audio, customers using URSA Broadcast now choose between -18 or -20dB audio alignment levels.

Blackmagic OS has also been updated and now adds ⅓ stop gain increments to the gain slider, the ability to quickly switch media from the heads up display, and new PRE and LUT status icons for pre-set timecode and LUT usage. In addition, new 2:1, 1:1 and 5:4 frame guides have been added, along with the option for custom frame guides. The media formatting interface has been improved, making it more intuitive so users are less likely to accidentally format a card.

The display of audio meters has also been improved with improved ballistics and the ability to set -18 or -20dB reference levels.

Blackmagic Camera 6.7 Update also adds general performance improvements and greater reliability when using external reference and when working with sources that have embedded audio. In addition, thermal management has been improved as has auto focus and auto exposure performance. Playback for clips that have been renamed is also improved.

Fremont, California - September 13, 2019 - Blackmagic Design today announced Videohub Master Control Pro, a newly designed router control panel that allows spin knob scrolling of all router sources and destinations as well as direct button entry of any router crosspoint. The new Videohub Master Control Pro provides a built in LCD with easy to read anti aliased graphic labels for full access to every single cross point on the largest 288 x 288 Videohub routers. Videohub Master Control Pro allows for very flexible control because it has two main methods for changing cross points on Videohub routers. The simplest way to use Videohub Master Control Pro is for customers to simply select either destination or source and then scroll through all the cross points in the router using the larger knob on the right side of the panel. The built in LCD shows cross points as the user scrolls using large easy to read labels, and scroll order is based on alphabetical order of crosspoint labels so it’s easy to scroll to the crosspoint the customer requires even on a very large router.

Videohub Master Control Pro also includes direct entry of cross point labels via built in buttons. These buttons are a combination of customizable buttons as well as numeric buttons. Customers can easily set the customizable buttons to labels such as “Monitor”, “Deck” or “Edit” etc, and then router cross points can be entered in by simply pressing the custom button followed by the number. For example if a customer wanted to enter in the destination “Monitor 3” then they only need to select the customized Monitor button followed by the 3 button. This means Videohub Master Control Pro gives customers full access to very large routers, but is still very fast to use.

Direct entry buttons also allow limiting the scroll list when using the spin knob. For the above example, if the user presses the Monitor button, then the list available to the spin knob would be limited to any cross point labeled Monitor. The user can then type in 3 to select monitor 3 as in the example above, or just scroll through all the monitor labels and select Monitor 3 via the spin knob.

Videohub Master Control Pro is still low cost enough so every user in a facility can afford to install one, and they can be positioned anywhere needed so everyone has easy access to changing router cross points.

Videohub Master Control Pro features a new machined metal design with attractive RGB illuminated crystal look buttons combined with an attractive color LCD for status and machined aluminum knob for scrolling cross points. Videohub Smart Control Pro is different to traditional hardware router control panels that cost thousands of dollars and are limited to being installed in small numbers and then shared by all router users. Videohub Smart Control Pro is low cost, and features 48 RGB illuminated crystal look buttons that can be set to any router output. Videohub Smart Control Pro can be installed under each deck and monitor in a facility, so the router output to that monitor can be set with a single button press. This is a much faster way of working, because all routing only requires a single button press.

For example, if a Videohub Smart Control Pro is installed under a monitor, then the router output connected to that monitor can be set to a different router source with each button press. Videohub Smart Control Pro includes a USB connection and easy to use Mac and Windows software to set each button. Buttons are illuminated brilliant white.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Aug. 13, 2019 – Cobalt Digital will showcase its card-based 4K and HDR workflow solutions for openGear® frames next month at IBC2019 in Amsterdam (Stand 10.B44). Product highlights will include its new decoders and encoders, RIST Main Profile, bi-directional SDR/HDR conversion solution for live production, and new multiviewers and distribution amplifiers. Plus, the company will debut a new 12G openGear router and RIST gateway solution.

The new 9992-DEC Series of HEVC/AVC/MPEG-2 decoders for openGear frames will be introduced at the show. Like the company’s 9992-ENC series of encoders, the flexible 9992-DEC features pay-as-you-go licensing, so users only pay for required features when needed. Designed to meet the most stringent requirements for today’s broadcasters, the 9992-DEC supports up to 4K resolution and offers a full complement of audio decoding capabilities. The series also includes the 9992-2DEC dual-channel decoder, as well as the 9992-DEC-4K-HEVC with single-channel 4K or dual-channel 2K and support for H.265.

Earlier this year, Cobalt was one of several companies to receive an Emmy® Award for its collaborative work on ARQ, the underlying technology powering RIST. At IBC, Cobalt will debut support for the RIST Main Profile, which adds features such as encryption (DTLS or PSK), tunneling, NAT traversal, point-to-multipoint distribution, low bit rate optimization, and reliable ST-2110 transport.

New advancements in HDR at the show include a complete end-to-end HDR workflow within Cobalt’s 9904-UDX-4K up/down/cross converter. Cobalt continues to develop its popular 9971 Series of multiviewers, adding dual outputs and user controls. Delivering uncomplicated monitoring of asynchronous 4K and HD signals, all three models accommodate a variety of signals and applications. All models also include HDMI outputs for economical viewing on consumer-grade 4K monitors. One-button template presets simplify setup, but users can also create and save customized layouts. Up to five 9971 can be installed in one 2 RU openGear frame – and multiple cards in a cascaded chain can provide multiviewer layouts of up to 64 sources.

The new 9915 Series of DAs support 4K 12G-SDI sources and allow for copper runs long enough to reach most equipment within master control. One of four models in the series, the 9915DA-4x16-XPT-12G, includes four input channels that can be crosspoint-routed to 16 DA outputs in several configurations. Up to 10 cards can be installed in one openGear frame, allowing for up to 40 channels of input and distribution to up to 160 outputs.

Recognising that the transition to highly automated, software-defined broadcast and media solutions can be challenging, Pixel Power has added to its head office team two new staff with enormous practical experience to provide support and guidance to achieve the optimum result for customers. Malorie Delaporte joins as solution manager; Neil Wren joins as pre-sales product specialist.

Malorie Delaporte has more than 20 years’ experience in broadcast, having worked on the operational side of presentation and playout as well as in engineering. Her most recent role was as head of system engineering and head of contribution at global channel TV5 Monde, based in Paris.

Neil Wren joins from Screen Subtitling, where he was international sales manager. At Pixel Power he will engage with customers during the pre-sales period, ensuring their complex requirements are identified and satisfactorily met with Pixel Power’s virtualizable, modular systems.

IBC 2019, RAI Amsterdam, 13-17 September: The UK Pavilion, organised and managed by Tradefair on behalf of techUK and supported by the Department for International Trade (DIT), welcomes 12 first time exhibitors to IBC this year. IBC 2019, 13-17 September, Hall 10 Stand C25: DTC Broadcast will feature its entire wireless AEON transmitter range, including the acclaimed AEON Lite transmitter and the PRORXD-AEON receiver, all at a new location during IBC 2019 in Amsterdam from 13–17 September.

DTC Broadcast has relocated to Hall 10 this year to ensure the highest visibility for its AEON transmitter range as well as the latest developments for other new DTC Broadcast products.

According to DTC Vice President, Broadcast Sales, JP Delport, “A few years ago the SNG market was core business for us, but bonded SIM technology has changed the game for newsgathering. However there has been growth in OB and live event production, so overall we have seen an increased requirement for our technology and our move to Hall 10 reflects the shift in our customer base.”

DTC’s AEON Lite is the lightest and smallest HEVC 4K transmitter currently on the market and is highly regarded for exceptional RF and picture performance. Designed to offer future-proof connectivity, the unit supports quad 3G-SDI video inputs which enable the user to transmit up to four simultaneous HD signals over a single RF channel.

AEON Lite will be demonstrated with the PRORXD-AEON, an integrated eight-way diversity 4K receiver/decoder that includes maximum ratio combining across all eight RF inputs.

DTC will also feature its industry-leading IP Mesh technology. Multiple RF nodes serve as both transmitters and receivers and are combined into a wireless ad-hoc IP network – DTC’s fluid, self-forming, self-healing mesh. Unlike other wireless options, Mesh constantly readjusts itself as nodes move, working out which are in range to determine the best route to send data between them. With genuine non-line-of-sight coverage, superb penetration, and wide bandwidth in difficult environments, the system is truly mobile. It supplies a network with extended range – one which will deliver in environments too tough for other radio solutions to cope with.

Finally, yet important to professionals in the video assist market, is the introduction of DTC’s CineVue, which combines DTC’s Nano HD camera-back transmitter with a purpose-built handheld visual receiver. The CineVue system takes an HD-SDI video feed from a film camera; encodes the signal to a low bitrate; modulates that signal on an RF spectrum; and transmits it to the handheld monitor to provide high-quality visibility of what is taking place on a shoot in real-time, including highly valuable metadata such as colour lookup tables, lens data, and time stamps.

IBC 2019, 13-17 September, Stand 7.B26: Leaders in intelligent storage solutions, GB Labs will launch Dynamic Bandwidth Control, which enables GB Labs storage system clients to prioritise the use and capacity of available bandwidth.

Dynamic Bandwidth Control is an extremely valuable benefit only available in GB Labs storage systems.

Traditionally, client storage usage is capped at certain levels to reserve storage capacity for priority users, whether or not it is being used. Storage that is reserved but not used can unnecessarily restrict the performance of others who could make beneficial use of that extra capacity.

GB Labs resolved this problem by developing Dynamic Bandwidth Control, which swiftly identifies and selects high, medium, and low priority users and constantly evaluates and balances performance. TVU Networks will exhibit in Hall 2, Stand B28 during the show.

Live Transmission

Featuring a newly developed H.265 hardware encoding chip, TVU One 4K delivers full broadcast quality 4K, 10-bit true 60 fps HDR video at as low as 3mbps with proven patented Inverse StatMux Plus technology, IS+. TVU One 4K is able to transmit 4K P60 HDR video reliably over mobile infrastructure at merely 0.5 second latency. Designed for broadcasters requiring mobility, TVU One 4K delivers speed, reliability and picture quality in a compact unit using technology that’s been proven in the most demanding cellular environments. As an example, TVU One 4K will be critically important for upcoming high-profile sporting events like next year’s European football championships, the Summer and Winter Games as well as this year’s Rugby World Cup.

TVU will also display its newest IP based rack-mount point-to-point contribution encoder, the TVU G-Link 4K. Combining one of the most advanced HEVC contribution encoders with the proven technology of IS+, TVU G-Link is able to transmit a 4K P60 4:2:2 HDR video signal over a normal Internet connection at as high as 50mbps. TVU G-Link is designed to meet the most demanding requirements for the highest picture quality available.

TVU MediaMind is central to a story-centric workflow and ensuring an efficient and integrated media supply chain. MediaMind helps to make video content visible throughout the supply chain process, allowing all media to become enabled.

CNN Newsource has successfully used TVU Grid to distribute live HD feeds to affiliate stations globally. CNN Newsource is also taking advantage of a part of the MediaMind workflow with the use of metadata descriptions tagged to each of the feeds. As a result, Newsource affiliates will be able to use TVU’s AI based speech and facial recognition to quickly search and find practically any live or archived media content.

The increasing need for more variety and volume of content requires new cost-effective ways to produce from the field. TVU Remote Production System (RPS) enables synchronized multi-camera remote production using a broadcaster’s existing studio control room and a public Internet connection from the field. Camera feeds are transmitted from a remote location back to the studio over IP, reducing the need for extensive on-site production trucks or large crews.

Al Kamel Systems, a leading motor sports live stats broadcast production specialist, uses TVU RPS to add racing graphics from remote sites, and the TVU Nano for video transmitter for real-time transmission of video from the cockpit of cars participating in the Credit Andorrà G-Series electric car Snow Rally Championships.

Transmissions can be sent straight to the cloud. Events can be produced using cloud-based TVU Producer, a solution whose user-friendly web interface allows producers to make quick cuts, insert graphic overlays from Singular.live’s library, switch between multiple sources, manage audio, compile highlights and instant replays, capture slow-motion clips, and push finalized content to TV and the Internet - all over IP.

To maximize quality and reliability of live video transmission despite less-than-ideal environmental circumstances, Spanish public broadcaster RTVE deployed TVU Networks’ TVU Nano Router and TVU Anywhere to send live video from the Paris-Dakar Rally, held in the Peruvian desert, to the RTVE studio in Barcelona. The live IP streaming videos were shot on smartphones and the content aired live over on RTVE flagship channels La 1 and Teledeporte in broadcast quality. 

AMSTERDAM—Rohde & Schwarz’s IBC booth this year plans to introduce attendees to a number of new products that cover varying sectors of the broadcast industry, including 5G broadcast, studio production, content mastering, storage and distribution.

A new 5G broadcast core system will be part of the demonstration, which enables R&S terrestrial transmitters to deliver LTE/5G broadcast content. The company will also offer updates on the 5G Today trial taking place in Bavaria, Germany, for which it is a participant.

R&S is also bringing its PKU100 family of satellite solid-state Ku-band uplink amplifiers, including the new addition of a 750 W outdoor variant. R&S will demonstrate the new models live operation wrapped around the latest T&M equipment.

Following its stop at the 2019 NAB Show, the R&S PRISMON.cloud monitoring-as-a-service platform will be on-hand at IBC, which now provides monitoring of SMPTE 2110 on-premise streams in the dashboard, incident notification via email and an REST API for integration of status data in network management systems. The entire R&S PRISMON monitoring and IP multiviewer family is set to benefit from increased capacities for SDI/ASI-I/Os, enhanced configuration for PTP and support for extended color spaces with SMPTE ST 2110-based input signals.

Other R&S products will showcase a number of new updates. The SpycerNode media storage system now comes in a compact 2U height unit version and new JBOD capacity extension units. The SpycerPAM is a production asset management system that allows for workgroup editing and integration of various editing and mastering platforms.

A new version of CLIPSTER DCI/IMF mastering system includes a Dolby Vision iCMU to facilitate media conversion from high peak luminance HDR to low peak luminance HDR or SDR on live output through SDI or HDMI, as well as support for Dolby Atmos Home workflows.

In addition, the Venice studio production platform now supports NMOS IS04/IS05 and configuration via web service, while the RelayCaster has new software updates for greater reliability of contributing and distributing live content via unmanaged IP networks, and the ability to provide link redundancy with the use of two separate internet connections.

R&S will showcase all of these technologies at booth 7.B21 during IBC 2019, which runs from Sept. 13-17 in Amsterdam.

IBC 2019, 13-17 September, Hall 7 Stand A01: Cinegy, the global leader for broadcast playout software on premise, hybrid and in the cloud, will demonstrate the multiple advantages of the inclusion of Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) as well as the 8K capabilities of its entire product range at IBC 2019.

Cinegy Head of Product Management Lewis Kirkaldie said, “SRT is an extra bit of magic that breaks the restrictive chains of having to establish connectivity by plugging in a cable somewhere. Through SRT, the ability to ensure a signal gets to and from where it needs to be is now both feasible and widely available.

“What that means is that with SRT you can locate content, tools, and services wherever your business needs them, be it in the cloud, on rented virtual machines, on-prem, or at remote data centres.”

Cinegy’s view is that the maturity of SRT opens the door to a sizable range of new applications while vastly simplifying existing ones.

“SRT is a massive liberator,” further explained Kirkaldie. “SRT makes system design so much easier. You can design exactly what you want to deliver, with precisely the results you need, irrespective of inputs, outputs, or location. There is no longer any reason to compromise your business goals due to connectivity or bandwidth limitations.”

SRT is baked in to Cinegy software, including the license, which removes any concerns about whether users have the legal right, proper subscription, or adequate bandwidth to deploy the software.

In the case of 8K, Cinegy has optimised its entire product line to be 8K-ready and deployed in the cloud. The new Cinegy Multiviewer, in addition to being 8K capable, has had its already impressive GPU optimisation further improved. This makes the Multiviewer even more powerful and flexible when paired with Cinegy Air PRO Playout and Cinegy Capture PRO Ingest.

The twin benefits of increased scalability and efficiency in Cinegy Air PRO are equally beneficial features for Cinegy Capture PRO. Using the same hardware, both systems are not only capable of capturing 8K in 10-bit at up to 60, but also four channels of UHD/4K.

Cinegy products can process mixed SD, HD, 4K/UHD, and 8K formats - as well as handle HDR - for capture, playout, monitoring, news, editing, or MAM. All of the products displayed at IBC 2019 are available for immediate deployment.

Tedial, the leading independent MAM technology solutions specialist, will be unveiling significant new features to its cutting-edge, award-winning sports and live events solution, SMARTLIVE, on stand 8.B44 at IBC 2019. The company will also unveil upgrades to its Tedial Version Factory 2019 for the first time in Europe.

SMARTLIVE MULTI SPORT Configurations
New for IBC 2019, SMARTLIVE will feature MULTI SPORT configurations, which allow users to generate automatic highlights or auto-clipping for any genre of sport quickly and easily. Visitors will see a dramatic increase in the number of highlights that SMARTLIVE can generate automatically due to the significant expansion of sports genres. This is a key addition to the list of the solution’s fast-growing capabilities. Totally agnostic to all data feeds, Tedial’s metadata engine makes it simple to add new configurations to the system as and when required.

In addition, SMARTLIVE and Tedial’s Evolution MAM now includes a new module that allows all types of content to be published to any social network in just one click. Enabled by the system’s capability to create social publishing campaigns directly inside the MAM, content includes clips, highlights or historical media etc. This will be demonstrated on the stand throughout the show.

Tedial will also highlight its technology partnership with Speechmatics. By integrating Speechmatics’ industry-leading Automated Speech Recognition (ASR) technology with SMARTLIVE, operators can search for comments made during a sporting match or live event, automatically create file locators and import a file or drop it into a watch folder and manually generate the speech-to-text from the commentary track.

Providing operators with faster access to content, Tedial will showcase its new SMARTLIVE bundled solution that can easily be deployed on top of the customer’s existing production environment. This is key as it provides sports broadcasters with a highly efficient solution that can be up and running very quickly. As well as these new features, Tedial will highlight the financial and operational benefits of operating SMARTLIVE both on premises and in the cloud.

Tedial Version Factory 2019
The company will also show Tedial Version Factory 2019 upgrades for the first time in Europe. Tedial Version Factory is a single efficient and cost-effective workflow that supports millions of file inputs, transforming them to delivery configurations, ready to be distributed to multiple platforms from a single operator screen. Updates include, managing ‘on-the-fly’ assembly of unique versions, including pre, post and mid-roll insertions; matching contractual distribution requirements for timely deliveries; enabling IMF-compliant low-resolution proxy edits on media and templates, so seasons of episodes can be managed with a single configuration.

Using the company’s Version Factory and HYPER IMF, its end-to-end IMF workflow now supporting 2018 SMPTE IMF standards, Tedial can easily support existing and new platforms, delivering content in the correct format with audio tracks and subtitles in the correct language, as well as any additional components required (artwork/trailers etc.).

As part of Tedial’s Evolution MAM demonstration the company will also show new features to its Evolution aSTORM content management solution, which transparently manages various tiers across departments and locations or in the cloud, for the first time in Europe. aSTORM now includes numerous cost-saving features including, optimizing transfers between sites for reduced transfer costs; and improved tape migration workflows between technologies for increased resource efficiency resulting in lower migration costs. aSTORM also now supports Oracle cloud storage.

Stand 14.D10, IBC 2019, RAI, Amsterdam: Intinor Technology, Sweden’s leading developer of products and solutions for high quality video over IP networks, will launch a newly combined router panel and video mixer for the highly portable Direkt link remote production backpack at IBC 2019.

Intinor’s Direkt router is used by major broadcast and production companies for video switching and mixing on the fly, and with the new router panel and video mixer combination the unit can provide GFX-overlays and PiP.

Direkt link can send video streams to multiple receivers, including Intinor’s own receivers, designed primarily for cable TV or channel control rooms; streaming servers for web TV; DTV boxes for OTT; PCs running VLC; and receivers from other manufactures.

Intinor CEO Roland Axelsson said, “The flexibility and versatility of our Direkt link range just become even more so with our new router panel and video mixer integration, and we are delighted to featuring it at Europe’s premiere broadcast technology showcase.”

The new Direkt link backpack system configuration can be adjusted using the new router display and keypad, or from a web-interface. The interface provides the ability to build profiles and adjust parameters for each broadcast location. Those profiles can contain and retain information on the network, content destination, and video-quality. The Direkt link system can store a broadcast on a USB stick for later use in on-demand or other video applications.

The unit will also have a new NDI input, which further expands Intinor’s collaboration with NewTek and other leading NDI developers.

At IBC, Intinor will also introduce ‘Direkt link tower’, a computer chassis that includes the powerful Direkt link encoder. The tower is pre-configured to esports-mode, Intinor's performance level 6 (x264 preset “SLOW”). This is the same encoding performance that is used worldwide for major esports tournaments like DreamHack, Blast Pro Series, PGL, Gfinity and many more.

LONDON—IBC conference organizers today announced keynote speakers and conference tracks for this year’s gathering in Amsterdam, which features Cécile Frot-Coutaz, head of EMEA at YouTube, as one of several keynoters and five conference tracks.

The organizers, formerly known as the IBC Content Steering Group, have assigned a different focus each day of the conference corresponding to the different stages of the end-to-end media content chain. More than 300 experts will address the new conference tracks, which include:

• Create & Produce: Creating Disruption, which will look at new technologies and concepts, such as interactivity and 8K;
• Manage: Automating Media Supply Chains, which will examine A.I. and other new technologies in the media supply chain;
• Publish: Embracing the Platform Revolution, which will dive into the new business models disrupting the industry;
• Consume: Engaging Consumer Experiences, which will focus on the media consumption habits of consumers and next-gen fan engagement;
• Monetize: Scaling Audiences and Revenues, which will highlight the concept of brands as broadcasters and new ad models.

Other IBC highlights include: Tech Talks, a technical papers and in-depth discussion feature, will also be a part of each daily track; the Global Gamechangers stage where tech innovators and business disruptors share their ideas; the Esports Showcase with an esports tournament, panels, keynotes and interviews; the Media-Telecom Catalyst, a look at three projects involving Al Jazeera, Associated Press, BBC R&D, RTE along with telecoms aimed at leveraging 5G, A.I. and data management; and the Big Screen, featuring the latest in cinema projection and sound equipment.

AMSTERDAM—Telestream will use the IBC Show platform to feature the latest updates to its live streaming, video encoding and transcoding, and video monitoring and analytics technology now that Tektronix has been integrated into the company.

For both live and file-based applications, Telestream is putting a lot of focus on cloud transformation and virtualization. For this, the Vantage Cloud Port uses Telestream cloud services for cloud execution of Vantage processing actions with on-prem deployments. Telestream also will have integrated video monitoring for distribution applications that are implemented on a consumption-based business model.

The latest updates in centralized, automated workflows for the Vantage Media Processing Platform help with media processing and workflow orchestration, offering new IMF workflows, file management for Vantage and UHD and HDR and live edit capability for remote production.

Additional products set to be on display at the Telestream booth include a European debut for the OptiQ system for monetizing short term opportunities in live sports and events, and the iQ video quality assurance system, which has new QoE and QoS enhancements as well as support for remote PHY networks.

IBC 2019 will take place once again at RAI in Amsterdam from Sept. 13-17. Telestream will be located at booth 7.C16 and 7.C14.

AMSTERDAM--IBC has opened submissions for Technical Papers for the IBC2019 Conference, held in Amsterdam, Sept. 12-17.

IBC is keen to encourage applications for Technical Papers from a diverse audience, as reflected by the increase in female speakers at the conference in 2018, up from 14 per cent in 2017 to 37 per cent.

Last year also saw the successful integration of the Technical Papers into IBC’s key conference themes by placing them as 'Tech Talks', allowing the audience to hear first-hand about groundbreaking technologies.

The Technical Papers selected for 2019 will reflect the diversity of the industry, covering such developments as machine learning (AI), VR, AR, mobility, immersivity, user psychology, gesture recognizing interfaces and blockchain.

Dr Paul Entwistle, chair of IBC's Technical Papers Committee, said: "We look forward to receiving many more novel, diverse and intriguing offers of papers from which we will curate the IBC2019 Tech Talks.

"Our integration within the key conference themes is a great opportunity for our authors to not only showcase their technology to fellow enthusiasts, but also explain its impact to the broader media industry.”
