John Schur, President of the Telos Alliance’s TV Solutions Group, outlines the Next Gen products creating ‘buzz’ at IBC 2019. These products include the Telos Linear Acoustic LA-5291 Professional Audio Encoder. It enables the creation of immersive Dolby Atmos audio at live events for transmission to broadcasters. Also included is the Telos Infinity IP intercom system. It supports two-way intercom communications without the need for a matrix over public/private IP networks.

AMSTERDAM—IBC has reported a slight rise in total attendance for this year’s show. This year the RAI in Amsterdam welcomed 56,390 attendees, a slight increase from 2018’s 55,884.

As the discussion about welcoming the next generation of media technologists to the industry continues, the number of under 35s attending IBC increased by 10% year-on-year, a record increase according to show organizers.

IBC chief executive Michael Crimp said: “Across the Exhibition, Conference and Feature areas, IBC2019 has been a hive of networking, deal-making, product launches, learning and the sharing of ideas. It has been a celebration of the industry’s creativity and drivers of change while also helping to identify and address key challenges.

“We are delighted to see audience growth in our key target areas, particularly welcoming more young people, senior level executives and overseas visitors. While this gives us a focus to build on next year, our metrics for success also include crucial elements like quality of experience, audience engagement and IBC’s influence on the industry, and our conversations with exhibitors and attendees tells us that these have all improved on 2018.”

AMSTERDAM—Aviwest and V-Nova have formed a strategic partnership to develop and sell newsgathering products with a target release of 2020, the companies said.

Building upon the success of a Media-Telecom Catalyst project, which led to a proof of concept in less than six months, the joint development uses V-Nova’s P+ AI-powered next-gen streaming enhancement with newsgathering solutions from Aviwest. The proof of concept is being shown during IBC 2019 at the RAI Amsterdam, which closed Sept. 17.

The Media-Telecom Catalyst Innovation projects fast-track innovation in the media and technology ecosystem. IBC and the TM Forum have collaborated on the program, which brings together companies of all sizes to develop solutions to commonly faced industry challenges.

Aviwest and V-Nova were among several companies participating in the “Mobile Newsgathering Using AI-Powered Catalyst” project. Others in the project included Al Jazerra, Associated Press, BBC and BT. The project tackled enhancing transmitted news content in the face of fluctuating and sometimes unreliable mobile network coverage, as well as taking advantage of the benefits of 5G.

The Aviwest-V-Nova proof-of-concept product enables high-performance video compression and robustness in a constrained bandwidth connection. It provides low latency performance and smart adaptability to different network conditions, the companies said. The goal is to develop this proof-of-concept project into a newsgathering solution that integrates V-Nova’s P+ technology into an HE4000, Multi-HD/UHD HEVC encoder.

Live demos are being held at the Media Telecoms Catalyst Zone in Hall 9 of the RAI Amsterdam.

AMSTERDAM—Sony has been busy at this year’s IBC Show, presenting a number of new products to attendees that cover IP technology, cameras, lenses and mics.

On the IP side, Sony has shown two new IP extension adapters, the HDCE-TX30 and HDCE-RX30, which transform the current HDC series of SDI system cameras into IP-enabled cameras with SMPTE ST 2110 interface. The adapters offer advanced IP live remote production and resource sharing to create workflow patterns for existing HDC system cameras. In addition, the MKS-R4020 and MKS-E1620 units are remote control panels that are designed to boost the reliability of commands through the Live Element Orchestrator; and the PWSK-4509 optional interface board that enables SMPTE ST 2110 support for the PWS-4500 live production switcher.

The HKCU-REC55 option board is another product that has made its debut at IBC. An option board for the Sony HDCU-5500 and HDCU-3500 Camera Control Units, the platform offers real-time file transfer, simultaneous recording of 4K HDR and HD SDR with support for SR Live for HDR and comes with the PWA-RCT1 server control software, allowing for the control of multiple CCUs with the PWS series live production server.

Other CCU platforms include the HDCU-5000, a 19-inch 3U full rack compatible with most current HDC camera systems and supports interfaces for 4K and HD, including SMPTE ST 2110. There are also the HDC-5500 system camera, RCP-3500 remote control panel for studio system cameras and BVM-HX310 4K HDR reference monitor with a new firmware making their European debuts.

A range of products are available that target the content creators, like the PXW-FX9 XDCAM camera.The FX9 has a newly developed Exmor R 6K full-frame sensor and Fast Hybrid Auto Focus system with a dedicated 561-point phase-detection AF sensor. The camera provides 15-plus stops of latitude and is compatible with the UWP-D wireless microphone system. Sony is also displaying the new FE C 16-35mm T3.1 G full-frame E-Mount camera lens.

On the audio side, Sony has the third generation of its DWX digital wireless microphone system, which feature both the DWR-S03D digital wireless receiver and DWT-B30 bodypack transmitter, both of which will be available in December.

In addition, Sony has showcased the PXW-Z750 XDCAM shoulder camcorder with 4K 2/3-type Three-Chip CMOS sensor with the ability to record in HD/4K and HDR; and version 2.0 of the REA-C1000 Edge Analytics Appliance, an AI-based video analytics system that offers new features like chroma key-less CG overlay.

LONDON—BT Sport has become one of the first global broadcasters to demonstrate live 8K sport.

Working with a range of established partners, BT Sport and BT’s Media and Broadcast division delivered an hour-long, live broadcast in 8K on to the BT stand at IBC, showcasing the Gallagher Premiership Rugby 7s tournament taking place in Northampton.

According to BT Sport’s Chief Operating Officer Jamie Hindhaugh, the purpose of the broadcast was to demonstrate BT Sport’s capabilities, and where that leads a broadcaster creatively. “We’re not necessarily saying we’re going to launch an 8K proposition, we’re not necessarily saying the U.K. market needs that,” he told TVBEurope.

“But you learn from value of 8K, you learn from the extra quality it gives you and it can become an element within your production. It’s like 8K VR, we’re already trialling that and it is something that will roll out and replace our 4K 360 that we currently do.”

AMSTERDAM—Nielsen’s Gracenote has launched a new video ID distribution system to make it easier for creators and content owners to distribute movies, TV shows, short-form videos and other types of content to global OTT services, smart device makers and cable and satellite TV service providers.

Gracenote is showing the new ID system and other solutions at the ongoing IBC 2019 convention at the RAI Amsterdam.

Studios and networks that use the Gracenote ID Distribution system can register their content with Gracenote’s Video Database and obtain connected Gracenote IDs to make better search and discovery in program guides, interfaces and OTT catalogs, the company said. They also can submit descriptive metadata, tags and imagery that Gracenote will review and prepare from an editorial point of view for broad distribution.

With Gracenote ID Distribution, content owners and creators can:

• Submit movies, TV programs or short form video content for inclusion in Gracenote’s Video Database;
• Receive certified Gracenote IDs at the beginning of the content lifecycle; and
• Drive the widest possible distribution of their video content to the world’s top VOD and OTT services and smart device manufacturers.

AMSTERDAM—Quantum is featuring the latest developments in its StorNext file system, F-Series NVMe storage arrays for video editing and rendering and R-Series removable, ruggedized storage systems for remote and mobile video during the ongoing IBC 2019 convention at the RAI Amsterdam.

The company is also making its executives available to discuss Quantum’s new line of Distributed Cloud Services and Cloud-Based Analytics Software, which allows users or Quantum’s own support team to manage and monitor environments around the world from one location.

AMSTERDAM—Panasonic isn’t holding any of its offerings back at this year’s IBC show, Sept. 13-17, announcing a full range of new products covering a range of broadcast needs.

IBC attendees will get an advance preview of Panasonic’s new IT/IP-centric platform, which is expected to launch in 2020. The system is based on an open software architecture and will eventually be applied to multiple Panasonic products, but will first start with a new broadcast video switcher. The video switcher will offer uncompressed processing, true uncompressed 4K inputs and full support of baseband and IP signals. Embracing the latest IP technologies, the video switcher can handle remote production and can be integrated into a full IP-based environment. In addition, if offers support for any kind of signal in a single server and one-frame latency processing.

Another switcher will be shown, the company’s 4K Live Switcher, AV-UHS500. This unit provides 4K/3G/HD multiformat support and has the same number of HD inputs and outputs to be maintained even when operating in 4K. Five optional boards have also been created to increase the number of inputs up to 16 SDI or 8 HDMI. Additional features include five keyers, up/down conversion, HDR/SDR conversion and ITU-R BT.2020/BT.709 conversion functions.

Just ahead of its release later in September, the 8K ROI multicamera system will get a spotlight during the conference, including a 8K multipurpose camera (AK-SHB800), a processing unit (AK-SHU800) and framing control software (AK-SFC101). The ROI system can produce four different HD signals, ir “virtual cameras,” from a single 8K camera system, while the sensor produces a wide angle, large canvas.

Panasonic will also have an individual camera on display with the AJ-CX4000GJ broadcast shoulder mount 4K camera. This B4 lens mount, interchangeable lens camera recorder is equipped with a 11MP image sensor for 4K recording via an HEVC codec and is compatible with HDR. Panasonic plans to release the camera in December.

Also set up at the Panasonic stand will be the latest developments in the company’s line of PTZ robotic cameras and controllers. This includes the AW-UE4 Compact 4K PTZ camera with a 111-degree field of view; the 4K PTZ AW-UE150, which is compatible with Virtual Studio and Augmented Reality applications and 4K capable; and the new AW-RP150 and AW-RP60 remote camera controllers.

Panasonic will also display how it has collaborated with third-party systems to complement its robotic technology. Some of the examples will be the Tecnopoint Tuning that offers combinations of motorized dollies, telescopic columns and ceiling and floor tracks for movement of PTZ cameras; Polecam’s Panapod that can mount up to five PTZs at once; and the KST-CamBot.system, a motion-control robotic camera system for TV studio “beauty shots.”

Panasonic will be located at stand 11.C45 during IBC 2019.

AMSTERDAM—Building on its family of FreeSpeak digital wireless intercom products, Clear-Com has announced that the new FreeSpeak Edge system will be on hand at IBC 2019, taking place from Sept. 13-17 in Amsterdam.

Developed based on feedback from FreeSpeak II users, FreeSpeak Edge features a new 5GHz chipset that features an exclusive radio stack development optimized for intercom. It also is implementing state-of-the-art audio over IP developments in its architecture, using AES67 connections between the transceivers and the host intercom frame for flexible deployment.

With FreeSpeak Edge operating in the 5GHz band, it can be managed with frequency coordination for reduced interference while offering a range of RF channels. The higher frequencies provide more bandwidth for data that allows for finer control, additional audio channels, more robustness, lower latency and better audio quality.

FreeSpeak Edge can deliver 12kHz audio quality with ultra low latency and is able to support 100 beltpacks and 64 transceivers during productions. Users can combine the platform with the FreeSpeak II 1.9GHz and 2.4GHz systems to provide three bandwidths across a single unified communications system.

The uniquely designed transceivers and beltpacks for FreeSpeak Edge are meant to offer more customization and control to accommodate complex communication needs. The beltpack features asymmetrical concave/convex top buttons; eight programmable buttons; rotary controls on both sides; a master volume control and flashlight on the bottom; and a mic and speaker for headset-free or desktop operation. The transceiver can support up to 10 beltpacks and includes attenuation and external antennas for custom RF zones, as well as wall and mic stand mounting options.

Clear-Com will display the FreeSpeak Edge at its stand, 10.D29, throughout IBC 2019.

AMSTERDAM—Teradek will showcase its new Prism 4K HEVC encoder/decoder during IBC 2019, Sept. 13-17, at the RAI Amsterdam. The rack-mountable solution for broadcast, live production and Pro AV applications is the first in a new line of codecs, the company said.

Prism’s 2RU chassis can house up to nine blades, each of which supports up to eight channels of audio and is capable of four simultaneous 1080p60 video feeds. The unit can encode and decode up to 4Kp60 video with 10-bit 4:2:2 image sampling.

Offering redundant power and network connections, Prism’s genlock input provides frame sync on decoder outputs. The unit supports a wide variety of streaming protocols, including MPEG-TS, RTP and RTMPS, in addition to SRT and Zixi, Teradek said.

Prism can be connected to Teradek’s IP video management and production platform Core. Doing so, enables users to configure, route, transcode and record IP video streams in the cloud.

The company is planning a near-term release of software to enable support for REMI remote production workflows.

Teradek plans to make Prism available in the fall, and the company is pricing the unit at $2,990 for the 2RU chassis, $1,990 for the 1RU chassis and $2,990 each for the encoder and decoder cards.

Cygnus Contribution can also help enable remote or at-home production using HEVC.

The Cygnus Distribution model, meanwhile, enables operators and broadcasts to distribute live content via satellite and IP networks. It provides ingress and egress of live video and audio from public cloud instances. Cygnus Distribution can be paired with MediaKind’s modular receivers and MK director to secure content across all distribution networks.

AMSTERDAM—Imagine Communications today announced it is making the core monetization function of its Targeted Delivery portfolio available as OTT Monetization Service powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The cloud-based, cross-platform managed service offers simplified browser-based management and proven functionality. No local equipment or hosting is required, the company said.

Imagine is collaborating with MobiTV to incorporate content monetization capabilities into live connected TV and OTT video services—eventually including VOD and cloud DVR as well, it said.

The Imagine OTT Monetization Service supports dynamic ad insertion for linear and OTT services and leverages the scalability, redundancy and security of AWS and AWS Media Services, including AWS Elemental MediaConvert. Imagine provides hosting, management, monitoring and updates, the company said.

The offering eliminates the complexities video providers face when using on-premise ad systems, Imagine said.

The monetization service, which integrates seamlessly with traffic and scheduling systems and ensures ads are dynamically aligned with audience demographics, offers the ability to replace ads in existing workflows, a capability critical to maximizing revenue against content.

AMSTERDAM—IBC attendees can now include a series of presentations and panels set to take place on the IP Showcase Theatre stage as part of their schedule planning, as the full line-up for the five-day program has been announced. More than 50 speakers have been tapped for the program, which is being sponsored by AES, AIMS, SMPTE, the Advanced Media Workflow Association, the European Broadcasting Union and the Video Services Forum.

“In 2019, SMPTE ST 2110, AMWA NMOS and related technologies are gaining widespread traction across a number of user communities,” said Brad Gilmer, IP Showcase executive director. “As users gain more experience with IP media networks, the IBC 2019 edition of the IP Showcase Theatre is a great opportunity for attendees to learn from their experiences.

Those experiences will be detailed with more than a dozen end-user case studies, including presentations from the BBC, Eurosports, the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup and Telstra’s advanced IP-based live sports production in Australia.

A trio of panel discussions are also on tap that will examine key aspects of IP media technologies and allow interaction with industry experts. In addition, presentations will be given on current and upcoming industry standards and best practices for IP media systems, including SMPTE ST 2110, AES67, IEEE 1588 PTP, AMWA NMOS IS-04 through IS-10 and JT-NM TR-1001-1. Other topics like buffering, timing, system architecture, clouds, microservices and practices for system control and security will also be discussed.

AMSTERDAM—This year’s IBC Show, taking place Sept. 13-17, will be a chance for Haivision to demonstrate its new SRT Hub cloud system, as well as its SRT Hub Partner Program and the SRT Hub Software Development Kit.

SRT Hub is an intelligent low-latency media routing service built on Microsoft Azure that connects edge devices and systems with cloud resources, as well as serving as a live video transport platform for contribution, production and distribution workflows.

The SRT Hub Partner Program uses the new SRT Hub SDK to support third party vendor integration and provide a framework to develop input, output and processing modules to extend the capabilities of SRT Hub.

During the conference, SRT Hub integrations with products from Avid, Cinegy, Haivision, LightFlow, Microsoft, Telestream and Wowza Media Systems will be demonstrated. With SRT Hub, global media workflows connecting vendors and spanning multiple Azure datacenters and broadcast services can be defined, orchestrated and launched quickly, according to Haivision.

An informative presentation, SRT Hub Technical Overview, will also be conducted on Sept. 15 at 1:30 p.m. in G Corridor, Room G104, during the show.

AMSTERDAM—TV/OTT equipment supplier DVEO has announced that it will debut its new real-time multicamera synchronizer, the Multichannel Video Synchronizer, at IBC 2019. Sept. 13-17.

DVEO’s Multichannel Video Synchronizer features IP inputs and outputs and is designed to time synchronize IP camera feeds to under one frame delay. This allows for up to 50 POV cameras to be fed to a remote location with seamless transition between views.

The unit is a Linux-based, 19-inch rack mountable, real-time multicamera synchronizer. DVEO says that the unit is typically deployed at master control, where all camera feeds can be synchronized through a remote GUI and accessed from anywhere with an internet connection.

DVEO will display the Multichannel Video Synchronizer at stand 14.D24 during IBC 2019.

AMSTERDAM—At the 2019 IBC Show, PESA will introduce the Secura Media Manager in conjunction with Arista on stand 8.E30.

PESA Secura encompasses both video and audio broadcast signal standards as well as command and control (KVM) standards on one unified platform. SMPTE ST 2110 is being used as a common standard for signal transfer and control.

SMPTE ST 2110 is an open standard for media over IP transport, available on the market today and provides for the transport of video, audio and data, for both compressed and uncompressed streams, while providing ultra-low latency timing combined with real-time control and management.

PESA says its focus has been centered on the security aspect of these systems. PESA’s Secura Media Platform allows users to protect content, including their KVM command control infrastructures.

PESA has integrated the government rated security standard, FIPS140-2 Level 3, into all PESA devices and has added military-grade encryption for streams on an IP network. This provides total control and security even if the first line of IP security is compromised.

Secura Media Manager is ideally suited toward military, government, corporate and broadcast customers.

AMSTERDAM—Vizrt will show four new production control, workflow and automation systems designed for live production during IBC 2019, Sept. 13-17, at the RAI Amsterdam. The systems are intended to make it possible for broadcasters to focus on storytelling rather than technology.

“There is a need in the broadcast industry to provide platforms that deliver both an easy entry point into live production ecosystems, as well as provide the precision required for high-quality modern live productions,” said Dr. Andrew Cross, president of R&D at Vizrt.

The new products include:

• Viz Arc, a control system for producing virtual sets and augmented reality graphics for day-to-day live production;
• Viz Verdi, a software-defined automation platform to enable media companies to produce more content on more platforms, including programming for social media and online;
• Viz Vectar, a software-defined compact, powerful live production switcher offering four built-in DDRs, built-in recording and social media streaming; and
• Viz Helix media workflow orchestration system that automates production processes built around the Viz One media asset management system.

“Making live programs easier than ever to produce and more fun to create, while also saving broadcasters time and money are key to the systems we are introducing at IBC,” said Cross.

Viz Arc is an IP-based system that allows users to drive AR and virtual sets from one interface. AR elements can be set up on a location map or the studio floor. The product, scheduled for a Sept. 11 release, integrates with Vizrt’s entire product portfolio and gives users direct access to Viz Artist templates and third-party integrations, including Unreal Engine 4.

Viz Verdi, due out in the fourth quarter, enables users to produce live content simultaneously in multiple aspect ratios, making it easier to deliver content to multiple platforms as well as to more effectively monetize content.

Viz Vectar, also scheduled for a Q4 release, makes reaching new audiences on different screens easier. The product fits within the Viz ecosystem with support for Viz Mosart automation and graphics control in the Viz Engine. Viz Vectar runs the NDI protocol natively to various Vizrt products and supports SDI and SMPTE ST 2110 inputs and outputs. The product includes four internal multiviewers, 44 inputs and 8 M/Es.

The software-based, cloud-native Viz Helix workflow orchestrator, due to be released Sept. 30, streamlines redundant tasks, enabling media companies to become more agile and reduce dependence on proprietary management solution. Viz Helix can accelerate time to market for new content and reduce on-air errors.

AMSTERDAM—The Telos Alliance will introduce its SDI AoIP Node at IBC 2019, Sept. 13-17, at the RAI Amsterdam.

“Radio broadcasters caught on to the nearly endless benefits of networked audio nearly two decades ago and haven’t looked back since,” says John Schur, president, Telos Alliance TV Solutions Group. “Television is now on the same path, aided by emerging standards such as SMPTE ST 2110. For most facilities, the transition from SDI to IP will be a gradual one, and products such as our SDI AoIP Node will help ease that transition.”

With two independent 3Gb/s HD/SD-HDI inputs and outputs, the SDI AoIP Node offers up to eight audio pairs from either or both SDI inputs that can be de-embedded and converted to AES67.

Available modules offered in this series include: the USF-10IP, which converts between IP formats; the USF-10IPSDI6-FS, which comes standard with one 12G-SDI input and one output, 2SI/SQD conversion, and offers simultaneous conversion of up to six inputs/outputs selectable with six streams; and the USF-10IPSDI12-FS module, which also comes standard with one 12G-SDI input and one output, as well as 2SI/SQD conversion, and offers simultaneous conversion of up to six inputs and six outputs, selectable with twelve streams. The USF-10IPSDI-6-FS and the USF-10IPSDI12-FS offer a TICO encoder/decoder. With this encoder/decoder, 12G-SDI 4K UHD uncompressed images can be compressed to TICO and processed via 10GbE network.

An integrated baseband/IP control and monitoring system, the SOM-100 is also designed based on hierarchical architecture using Ember+ for a flexible system configuration to be used in a mixed SDI/IP environment. It delivers seamless interoperability between baseband and IP equipment and traffic management. The SOM-100 provides operation of a variety of video equipment such as SDI/IP/RS422 routers, multi viewers, video processors, tally devices and button panels, and monitored centrally from its GUI.

At IBC 2019, the MBP-1000VS-IP IP video server, the ESG-4200 test signal generator, the MFR-3000 routing switcher, the USF-10IP-SDI6-FS IP gateway, the MV-1220 multi viewer, the Media Links MD8600 video gateway and the MDX4090 IP video switcher & router are controlled by the SOM-100 in a SDI/IP hybrid system.

SDI and IP routing switchers are managed as one routing switcher in a virtual group. The SOM-100 can execute routing system control and process control, so that it supports collective operational changes of multiple pieces of equipment and executes time reservation. The system also features a web interface for easy access from multiple computers.

A 12G-SDI/IP multi-channel video server, the MBP-1000VS series is ideal for 4K editing environments, offering multi-input/output 4K and HD support and ingest, playout and 4K recording functionality. FOR-A is offering a range of MBP-1000VS interfaces for 12G-SDI or video over IP transmission, including 12G-SDI, 3G-SDI, and SFP+, to accommodate varying user needs for inputs/outputs and size of internal storage (SSD). The MBP-1000VS-IP includes a SFP+ port for 10 Gbps video over IP I/O. It supports up to eight-channel MPEG-2 codec or four-channel 4K XVAC™ codec and can switch channels from encoding to decoding as needed. Supported formats for video over IP include SMPTE ST 2022-6 and ST 2110.

AMSTERDAM—A midday meal and education are on the agenda for the RIST (Reliable Internet Stream Transport) Forum at IBC 2019 in Amsterdam.

The forum will host a free “Lunch and Learn” event Monday, Sept. 16, during the confab. Those attending the lunch will have the chance to learn more about RIST and its possible uses in video delivery.

During lunch, RIST experts will be available to talk about the protocol and the forum. There will also be presentations and a panel discussion with representatives from Amazon Web Services (AWS) Elemental, Cobalt Digital, DVEO, Net Insight, Open Broadcast Systems, VideoFlow and Zixi.

A variety of topics will be discussed, including: the RIST Main Profile, encryption, high-end live media workflows, delivery of content to tens of millions of people using RIST, as well as how RIST and the cloud are transforming content distribution and the future of the format, the forum said.

“RIST is all about the combination of interoperability and innovation, giving the broadcast industry a simple yet highly effective method for interchanging professional signals between different vendors,” said Alexander Sandström, co-chair of the RIST Forum. “RIST has the potential to solve a lot of the complexity with live media workflows.”

RIST was jointly developed by a group of experts using a standards-based approach. RIST provides an open, interoperable and technically robust solution for low-latency live video over unmanaged networks.

AMSTERDAM—Ahead of its demonstration at IBC 2019, The Switch has announced that it is launching a new brand and website the company says “underlines The Switch’s comprehensive network reach and three decades of experience in live event production.”

The new brand features the strapline “Always On, Always There,” which will appear on its new website, its IBC stand, and the company’s studio and production facilities in Burbank, Calif., Los Angeles, New York and London.

AMSTERDAM—NewTek will demonstrate what it is describing as “breakthrough capabilities” that transform video production by enabling software-defined visual storytelling (SDVS) at IBC 2019, Sept. 13-17, at the RAI Amsterdam.

AMSTERDAM—At the 2019 IBC Show in Amsterdam, LYNX Technik, a provider of modular signal processing interfaces, will debut an 8K SDI to Fiber and Fiber to 8K SDI converter for the company’s Series 5000 product line.

The DVD 5480 HO module supports video formats all the way up to 8K SDI and is designed with both a fiber and electrical interface. The cards target for a variety of applications and can operate in four different modes, offering unmatched flexibility, the company said.

As an 8K SDI <> fiber converter, the module transports and converts up to 8K-SDI (12G, 6G, 3G, HD, SD) over optical fiber cable and vice-versa.

Operating as a 12G-SDI re-clocking distribution amplifier, the module carries 4K video on a single cable and is suitable for any SDI video signal up to 12G for 4K applications.

This new Series 5000 card also enables single-link 12G SDI signals to be converted to quad-link 3G-SDI and vice versa (i.e. quad-link 3G-SDI signals to be converted to single-link 12G-SDI). 6G to/from quad-link 1.5G conversions are also supported. With many facilities still running in a 3G environment, there are many requirements to integrate 4K/UHD signals in 12G-SDI into the infrastructure. In this mode, the DVD 5480 HO module enables users to convert UHD signals between quad-link 3G and single-link 12G SDI.

AMSTERDAM—Ross Video used the theme of “high impact, high efficiency” to describe what it offered earlier this year at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, and now it will bring that mantra across the pond to IBC 2019, where the company says it will have its largest ever presence at the show highlight new and updated products for a range of professional production needs.

Ross’ slate of products for IBC 2019 will serve a number of different markets, from news production to virtual and augmented reality technology. Here is a brief description of what the company will display for IBC attendees:

Frank Lozano is on a mission.

“I’ve filmed orphanages in Haiti, AIDs clinics in Nigeria, I have documented digging water wells in Burkina Faso, Africa, and told the heartbreaking story of two married Holocaust survivors that met in a concentration camp,” says Lozano. The imagery he creates is inspiring. Visual storytelling may be the only way to accurately convey what the first drop of clean, accessible drinking water can mean to a people who have never known one.

Frank’s corporate clients include a resort in Cambodia, and his photographs have had gallery showings. The documentary filmmaker and veteran photographer has a professional background as diverse as the places he has traveled. Based out of Los Angeles, his projects have taken him all over the world.

“Since most of the organizations don’t have budgets, I use the gear that I own and have a very small footprint. I am currently shooting with the Sony A7III and carry my older Canon 5DMKIII as a backup,” says Frank. For sticks, Frank uses the Cartoni Focus 8, a lightweight tripod with the stability to create his precise time-lapse sequences and provide camera movement that is smooth and natural. But Frank’s love of photography and the moving image began long before he picked up a mic. “I guess you would say I have been shooting since I was in middle school and I have my mom to thank or blame for that,” says Frank. “She always had a 35mm film camera and a Super 8 movie camera around the house, and I started telling stories with those tools editing footage with blade and tape.” Recently, a high school classmate posted a photo of Frank back in the day with his 35mm in hand.

And it turns out Frank has a history with Cartoni. “Fifteen years ago when I was giving my time as the media director for a local church, they had two Cartoni tripods, and I used them whenever I could,” says Frank. “Back then, I didn’t have the budget to invest in a Cartoni, so I purchased a ton of other tripods and, like most shooters, I have a stack of them in my garage.”

A couple of years ago, Frank finally got a Cartoni from Band Pro in Burbank, and after using it the first day, he was sold on it. “With all the money I spent on inferior tripods, I could have purchased several Cartonis,” he says.

Frank’s background in both radio and film has allowed him the opportunity to serve not only his community but people around the world. He has his own nonprofit - GlobalPointMinistries.org. “The projects I am drawn to are varied,” says Frank. “I run my own sound using my Sound Device MixPre6 with four wireless lavs and am looking to convert to all Sony glass and get another Sony camera as the budget warrants.”

The Cartoni will be with him. “If I had just invested sooner, I would have saved myself tons of frustration with shots I didn’t like or could not use because the sticks were cheap,” says Frank. “It is so nice to shoot with a tripod that is solid, steady, and reliable.”

AMSTERDAM—Rohde & Schwarz will introduce a new compact 2U version of its R&S SpycerNode media storage system at the 2019 IBC Show. The company said the small capacity system represents Rohde’s “competitively priced entry point” into a storage market that increasingly embraces High Power Computing based on high speed Ethernet connectivity rather than Fibre Channel. Rohde & Schwarz said it will also introduce several new JBOD capacity extension units, which provide affordable storage capacity expansion for their other SpycerNode models.

The company will also launch R&S SpycerPAM, a production asset management system, which allows workgroup editing and seamless integration of various editing and mastering platforms including Adobe Premier, Avid Media Composer and Apple Final Cut Pro.

The company used the announcement to tout its support for Ethernet connectivity to eventually replace Fibre Channel, a 25-year old technology that is seeing only modest growth.

“The Fibre Channel standard was completed in 1994 and it has served the media industry well, but in essence there are only around nine manufacturers developing Fibre Channel technology,” said Oliver Gappa, sales director of broadcast and media for Europe for Rohde. “Compare this to high-speed Ethernet, where there are over 500 companies, such as Juniper, Arista and Cisco introducing new products every year and the future is clear.

“Today, if you look at Fibre Channel relative to high-speed Ethernet, there is no comparison,” Gappa continued. “The future is Ethernet and yet some media storage manufacturers continue to promote Fibre Channel, which presents real risks for their customers.“

Gappa‘s remarks are backed up by industry data. On the one hand, the Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) reports that the Fibre Channel market saw a return to modest growth in 2018. In comparison, the Open DeviceNet Vendor Association (ODVA) reports strong growth in Ethernet switch connectivity. In 2018, port shipments for 100Gb Ethernet switches rose 154.6% year over year to 3.5 million, while 25Gb ports saw even higher growth rates with port shipments up 251.0% to 2.6 million and 40Gb port shipments rose too, growing 12.6% year over year to 1.3 million.

MELBOURNE, Australia—In a collaborative effort with Panasonic, Atomos has announced the development of RAW over HDMI to be transmitted from the Lumix S1H camera to the Atomos Ninja V 4K HDR monitor-recorder.

Atomos’ screen technology now allows creators to accurately monitor RAW video in real time, according to Jeromy Young, Atomos CEO. Young says the combination of the Lumix model and the Ninja V “create a dream workflow” for content creators.

The RAW update will be available for free on the Ninja V when released by Panasonic.

Atomos will highlight the capabilities of the two products’ combination at IBC 2019, Sept. 13-17 in Amsterdam, at its stand 11.D25.

AMSTERDAM—One of the highlights of Apantac’s stand at this year’s IBC conference—Sept. 13-17 in Amsterdam—will be the addition of UHD outputs to its line of multiviewers, including the Mi-16, Mx-32, Mi-8 12G and Di-16.

Adding UHD outputs to its line of multiviewers enables the source window PIPs to be displayed with twice the horizontal number of pixels and twice the number of lines on a UHD panel. Apantac’s multiviewers can be paired with off-the-shelf UHD displays to create a multi-image display processing system.

Apantac’s updated multiviewers will be on display at stand 8.E43 during IBC 2019.

AMSTERDAM—Facility management software developer Xytech is set to demonstrate a number of updates to its MediaPulse product line at its stand during IBC 2019, which takes place from Sept. 13-17 in Amsterdam.

Front and center as part of the MediaPulse update is a completely redesigned user interface. Xytech designed the new user interface to be intuitive and operational on any device, including an integrated mobile experience for low-touch users on phones. Users can access the new interface either on premises or in the cloud.

The new user interface is now available with the latest version of MediaPulse.

Xytech also updated its Personnel Manager to add real-time counters in the scheduling view so it can track entitlements, work time, available time, overtime or any other classification managed by MediaPulse. The Personnel Manager’s rules engine has also been updated to track all user-defined conditions, alert staff when thresholds are exceeded, compute costs and prepare timesheets.

Additional upgrades have been made to the Transmission Module, including new functionality to manage technical compatibility and service compatibility. Users can automatically create a technically correct circuit while simultaneously ensuring selected devices perform the service required.

Xytech will feature these updates at its stand, 6.C22, during IBC 2019.

AMSTERDAM—Compliance monitor, logging and multiviewer system developer Vela will be showcasing the latest edition of its Vela Encompass system at IBC 2019, which takes place from Sept. 13-17 in Amsterdam. Vela Encompass 6.0 offers a number of new features, including AI and machine-learning tools and improved content/OTT compare.

Encompass 6.0 now has a full suite of AI and machine-learning tools that enable customers to analyze a multitude of streams either on premise or in the cloud. These tools allows the system to recognize faces, voices, logos, audio and video patterns. It can also integrate metadata into an underlying video.

The latest version also offers enhanced abilities to compare source content with one or more OTT or cable/satellite/return feeds for automated detection of where commercials or content have deviated.

Other features of the Encompass 6.0 include updates to the Notes and Discrepancy Logging modules; a customizable software multiviewer; enhanced audio and video matching and reports; support for SMPTE 2110, ATSC 3.0, OKTA, DVB and SCTE-27 subtitles; and greater channel density with new GPUs and CPUs.

Vela will highlight the Encompass 6.0 at its stand, 8.A01, throughout IBC 2019.

AMSTERDAM—Attendees at IBC 2019 will be among the first to see Marshall Electronic’s successor to its CV502-WPM camera when the CV503-WP all-weather HD miniature camera makes its debut during the conference, which will run from Sept. 13-17.

The camera has a 10-foot weatherproof cable that carries HD video, control and power to a full-sized 3G/HD-SDI output, RS485 connection and locking 12V power connector. With a next-gen 2.5 Megapixel, 1/2.86-inch sensor and ultra-low noise signal processors, the camera can deliver up to 1920x1080p at 60 fps and 1920x1080i at 60fps.

To allow for multiple lens options, the camera has a threaded M12 lens mount with a wider weatherproof cap. There is also the ability for remote adjustment for various picture settings via RCP or camera control software that can be made with or without manipulation of the OnScreen Display menu, such as exposure, white balance, paint adjustments, gain control, pedestal, white clip, gamma and more.

In addition, the CV503-WP comes in a compact, IP67-rated housing.

Marshall Electronics will showcase the CV503-WP mini camera at its stand, 12.D20, during IBC 2019.

AMSTERDAM—Brought into the Telestream family of products with the integration of Tektronix video test, monitoring and quality assurance systems, Telestream will put new updates to the Prism media processing platform front and center at IBC 2019, which runs from Sept. 13-17 this year.

Prism is a hybrid IP/SDI media processing platform, and at IBC will be shown with its latest update that offers a new mixed media card that supports 25GE networks. This will allow existing installed units to be upgraded in the field while new units with the new mixed media card will just need a software upgrade. Both upgrade paths will be available for the same price. Now with a 25GE interface, Prism can provide support for a range of media networks, from SDI to 4K HDR and WGC.

The 25GE option is available in both Prism form factors, the 3RU 9-inch full touchscreen, MPI2-25, as well as the 1RU rasterizer, MPX2-25. Prism IP measurements are also available in all models. HDR/WGC features like STOP waveform, CIE charts and false color displays can be used for 4K content creation via 25GE.

Telestream will demonstrate this at its stands, 7.C16 & 7.C14, during IBC 2019.

AMSTERDAM—Harmonic will showcase real-world deployments of unified broadcast and OTT delivery during IBC 2019, Sept. 13-17, at the RAI Amsterdam.

The company, which offers a variety of video delivery solutions, including SaaS, will show how broadcasters, service providers and content originators are using strategies, based on cloud, on-prem and hybrid environments to deliver video channels more quickly.

Harmonic will demonstrate unified delivery workflows running on-premise and in the cloud to enable delivery of content in multiprotocol environments with the same delay between broadcast and OTT feeds. The company will highlight how its VOS 360 SaaS can be used to launch skinny bundles, create pop-up channels, deploy disaster recovery and stream live sports in UHD.

The company also will spotlight its Spectrum X media servers and VOS360 SaaS being used in real-world hybrid SDI/IP UHD and HDR playout and on-premise/cloud-based channel origination for OTT and broadcast workflows.

Additionally, Harmonic will feature its VOS360 SaaS-based workflow supporting the company’s CDN-enabled primary distribution solution. It will also showcase dynamic ad insertion capabilities within its video SaaS solutions.

At the IBC Future Zone, Harmonic will demo its 8K video delivery on 8K-connected TVs and legacy mobile devices with EyeQ content-aware encoding. The encoding reduces the bandwidth needed for 8K by 50%. There also will be a demonstration of AI-based video compression.

Stephane Cloirec, senior director, video appliances at Harmonic, will speak on how "AI-Driven Video Compression Brings New Revenue Opportunities and Cost Savings for Service Providers,” Sept. 16 at 4:10 p.m. in the Future Zone Theater (Hall 8, Stand F40).

MAXIMA 5.0

The new MAXIMA 5.0 is the ultimate answer for digital cinematography with heavy-duty packages.

Featuring Cartoni’s patented counterbalance, the MAXIMA 5.0 handles payloads from zero to 50 kg, with “perfect balance” throughout the 180° tilt range. The patented continuous fluid drag system allows almost freewheeling to extremely consistent drag for maximum versatility and perfect diagonal shots.

The MAXIMA 5.0 knobs and levers are ergonomically placed to ensure camera operators complete ease-of-use in any situation, whether in the studio, location, or during outside shooting. The large sliding camera plate is compatible with ARRI, Sony, and O’Connor. The head comes with a telescopic pan bar and a short front pan bar. Optional 150mm bowl base can be easily applied.

Making its IBC debut will be the Sport 200 (S200). The new Sport 200 are a revolutionary set of tripod legs, designed specifically to meet the rigorous demands of sports and outside broadcast (OB) production. It continues Cartoni’s legacy of delivering cutting-edge solutions for content creators.

“The new Sport 200 is a game-changer. It features an extremely innovative aluminum profile and angular structure, which gives camera operators a sturdiness you simply cannot get from standard tripod tubes. The rigidity allows camera operators to be extremely precise in their movements – from whip pans to tracking players or objects,” explains Elisabetta Cartoni, President and CEO of Cartoni.

The new Sport 200 is built with duralumin as used in the aircraft industry and offers outstanding torsional rigidity with camera packages, up to 200 kg (441 pounds), in all possible large camera/lens configuration. Its innovative profile is angled and shaped to ensure maximum strength while weighing only 10.5 kg (23 lbs). Designed to withstand even the harshest weather conditions, the Sport 200 can endure severe weather conditions, rain, dust, moisture, and extreme temperatures.

MASTER 25

The Master 25 is a robust, yet lightweight fluid head designed to support the latest cameras complete with long lens, viewfinders, prompters and pan bar controls for new studio production as well as OB/ENG/EFP applications, with a payload capacity of up to 30 kg (66 lbs).

The new Master 25 will be displayed in the classy Black & Gold design of the famed Cartoni C20/C40 heads of yesteryear and is also available in grey anodized aluminum.
