It has been a celebration of the industry’s creativity and drivers of change while also helping to identify and address key challenges.

“We are delighted to see audience growth in our key target areas, particularly welcoming more young people, senior level executives and overseas visitors. While this gives us a focus to build on next year, our metrics for success also include crucial elements like quality of experience, audience engagement and IBC’s influence on the industry, and our conversations with exhibitors and attendees tells us that these have all improved on 2018.”

IBC returns to the RAI in Amsterdam Sept. 11-15, 2020.

IBC and the TM Forum have collaborated on the program, which brings together companies of all sizes to develop solutions to commonly faced industry challenges.

Aviwest and V-Nova were among several companies participating in the “Mobile Newsgathering Using AI-Powered Catalyst” project. Others in the project included Al Jazerra, Associated Press, BBC and BT.
AMSTERDAM—Sony has been busy at this year’s IBC Show, presenting a number of new products to attendees that cover IP technology, cameras, lenses and mics.

On the IP side, Sony has shown two new IP extension adapters, the HDCE-TX30 and HDCE-RX30, which transform the current HDC series of SDI system cameras into IP-enabled cameras with SMPTE ST 2110 interface. The adapters offer advanced IP live remote production and resource sharing to create workflow patterns for existing HDC system cameras. In addition, the MKS-R4020 and MKS-E1620 units are remote control panels that are designed to boost the reliability of commands through the Live Element Orchestrator; and the PWSK-4509 optional interface board that enables SMPTE ST 2110 support for the PWS-4500 live production switcher.

The HKCU-REC55 option board is another product that has made its debut at IBC. An option board for the Sony HDCU-5500 and HDCU-3500 Camera Control Units, the platform offers real-time file transfer, simultaneous recording of 4K HDR and HD SDR with support for SR Live for HDR and comes with the PWA-RCT1 server control software, allowing for the control of multiple CCUs with the PWS series live production server.

Other CCU platforms include the HDCU-5000, a 19-inch 3U full rack compatible with most current HDC camera systems and supports interfaces for 4K and HD, including SMPTE ST 2110. There are also the HDC-5500 system camera, RCP-3500 remote control panel for studio system cameras and BVM-HX310 4K HDR reference monitor with a new firmware making their European debuts.

PXW-FX9

A range of products are available that target the content creators, like the PXW-FX9 XDCAM camera. The FX9 has a newly developed Exmor R 6K full-frame sensor and Fast Hybrid Auto Focus system with a dedicated 561-point phase-detection AF sensor.
MONTREAL, Quebec — September 13, 2019 —Matrox® Video today announces that the Matrox M264 S4 H.264 hardware codec card is now shipping. Having recently completed the official XAVC verification program by Sony Imaging Products & Solutions Inc. ("Sony"), the Matrox M264 S4 codec card supports up to an unprecedented four 4K channels of XAVC Intra, XAVC Long, or AVC-ULTRA encoding/decoding from a single-slot card. Combined with onboard de-interlacing and scaling functionality, the Matrox M264 S4 card provides a simple, cost-effective means of managing computationally demanding, high-density 4:2:2 10-bit and 4:2:0 8-bit workflows. Broadcast OEMs can now deliver exceptional encode/decode performance using standard, PC-based solutions to enable multi-channel platforms such as 4K instant replay systems, channel-in-a-box systems, video and ingest servers, broadcast graphics systems, multiviewers, high-density transcoding systems, and more.

The Matrox M264 family of codec cards can be seen in action at IBC 2019, stand 7.B15.

Industry-leading encoding and decoding density

Designed specifically for high-density and pristine-quality, H.264-based encoding/decoding (Baseline Profile to High 10 Intra Profile up to Level 5.2), the Matrox M264 S4 card provides XAVC-validated and AVC-ULTRA-compliant presets. The Matrox M264 S4 card can encode/decode up to four 4Kp50/60 streams of XAVC 4K Intra Class 300/480, XAVC 4K Long 4:2:2, or AVC-ULTRA in real-time with zero CPU usage—while the “highest-end” multi-socket PCs struggle to achieve just one real-time encode. The M264 S4 card can also encode/decode up to four streams of 4Kp60 at 4:2:2 10-bit, 40 streams of HD Long GOP at 4:2:2 10-bit, or 64 streams of HD at 4:2:0 8-bit, with ultra-low power consumption, in the smallest footprint.

Rapid development

The Matrox M264 S4 card is supported by the field-proven Matrox DSX SDK, which boasts an extensive set of powerful media processing modules—including file input/output (I/O), software codecs, and CPU effects—for rapid application and system development. The M264 S4 codec card also provides plug-ins for H.264 transcode acceleration into the FFMPEG framework.

“The Matrox M264 codec card family has long been the de-facto, multi-channel 4K XAVC solution for PC-based platforms, so it comes as no surprise that OEMs are excited about the availability of the industry’s only four-channel 4Kp60 XAVC codec card,” says Alberto Cieri, senior director of sales and marketing, Matrox Video. “The M264 S4 card provides OEM solutions with an exceptional UHD and HDR encode/decode density, quality, and performance boost, making PC-based 4K workflows easy.”

Availability

The Matrox M264 S4 codec card is now available.
AMSTERDAM—Nielsen’s Gracenote has launched a new video ID distribution system to make it easier for creators and content owners to distribute movies, TV shows, short-form videos and other types of content to global OTT services, smart device makers and cable and satellite TV service providers.

Gracenote is showing the new ID system and other solutions at the ongoing IBC 2019 convention at the RAI Amsterdam.

Studios and networks that use the Gracenote ID Distribution system can register their content with Gracenote’s Video Database and obtain connected Gracenote IDs to make better search and discovery in program guides, interfaces and OTT catalogs, the company said. They also can submit descriptive metadata, tags and imagery that Gracenote will review and prepare from an editorial point of view for broad distribution.

With Gracenote ID Distribution, content owners and creators can:

Submit movies, TV programs or short form video content for inclusion in Gracenote’s Video Database;

Receive certified Gracenote IDs at the beginning of the content lifecycle; and

Drive the widest possible distribution of their video content to the world’s top VOD and OTT services and smart device manufacturers.

“With the growing popularity of new original programs and short-form video, our global customers face new challenges connecting users to all the content they have to offer,” said Gracenote Chief Product Officer Simon Adams.

“The new Gracenote ID Distribution system will help creators and owners secure the broadest possible distribution of their programming while providing leading VOD and OTT services a means to easily identify and access relevant metadata for next-generation search and discovery experiences.”

On average, video streaming services are home to an average of 40,000 TV episodes and movies, the company said. This can make it challenging for subscribers to discover long-tail programming.

Short-form videos that delve more deeply into storylines, themes and characters of popular TV shows have proven to be effective in captivating audiences and attracting new fans. Connected content IDs and metadata from Gracenote makes it easy to display episodes of short-form content alongside episodes of related long-form content, the company said.

This allows video services providers to drive deeper viewer engagement and offer a one-stop shop for all related content, it said.

See Gracenote at IBC 2019 stand 14.G29.

For more information visit the company’s website.

AMSTERDAM—The Vizrt Group’s NDI brand today released the fourth generation of NDI technology at the ongoing IBC 2019 convention at the RAI Amsterdam.

Deemed crucial by NDI to making software-defined visual storytelling (SDVS) accessible via IP-based video, NDI 4 merges live video and post-production with the ability to record almost unlimited NDI video channels, making IP-based multi-camera editing accessible.

"Our mission is to make video accessible to everyone and fun to use. It is clear that software-defined video is changing the way that video is produced. The fourth generation of NDI technologies look to use IP video to bridge the gap between live and post-production and thus create new workflows that have been previously impossible,” said Dr. Andrew Cross, president of R&D for Vizrt Group, parent brand of NDI.

NDI 4 makes continuous recordings readily available for editing and instant replay without stopping video capture, NDI said. Time-stamped recordings can be seamlessly imported as synchronized files into Adobe Creative Cloud with full synchronization in any video or audio format, including 4K UHD and above.

A new NDI 4 tool uses high-bandwidth NDI over a Wi-Fi connection in resolutions up to 4K UHD from an iOS-based mobile device. The aspect ratio, frame rate and resolution independent nature of NDI enables mobile devices to be used as sources and permits other NDI-enabled systems, including production switchers, to deliver content ready for viewing on mobile devices.

The latest NDI version also offers increased efficiencies across many areas that include improvements in video quality without an increase in bitrate.

NDI 4 offers:

High-quality video, with support for alpha channel and a full 16-bit data path. Fully resolution and frame-rate independent, with full support for UHD and beyond;

Full support for audio, with support for more than 64 channels of floating point audio, at all sample-rates;

Support for extensible metadata and timestamps;

Fully integrated high-efficiency integrated audio and video codecs allowing use within remote and wireless environments;

Support for plug-and-play device discovery or the use of a discovery server;

Unicast and multicast support, allowing use on local networks or cloud environments. Multipath modes allow bandwidth to be spread across parallel network connections

Virtually unlimited numbers of record channels of NDI with negligible CPU usage;

Full suite of tools, including video source monitoring, recording, desktop capture, full IP-based KVM, test pattern generation;

New iOS apps that transform these devices into full frame-rate, wireless UHD cameras;

Downloadable free SDK that allows use within software applications. SDK for embedded devices that includes sample FPGA designs for encoding and decoding streams;

Cross platform SDK.

See NDI at IBC 2019 stand 7.C12.

To learn more and to access the NDI 4 SDK visit the NDI website.

Barnfind Adds Future-Proof Functionality and Flexibility to All-In-One12G-SDI & HDMI 2.0 Fiber TransportBTF1-41 Frame at IBC 2019

BNC-32 mid-board increases network of functions via electrical interface

Amsterdam - (September 13, 2019) — Barnfind Technologies, an international leader in fiber transport solutions, is showing its all-in-one 12G-SDI & HDMI 2.0 Fiber Transport BTF1-41 Frame at IBC 2019 with an optional BNC-32 mid-board that brings additional future-proof functionality to users and provides them with even more flexibility via an electrical interface. The frame is being highlighted at the show in Stand 8.C31 alongside the Company’s new BarnMini-22 module that extends its series with increased performance capabilities. Barnfind is also demonstrating its full range of BarnOne units including the BTF1-10AA that offers 8x analog audio input and output converted to/from MADI, and BarnMini modules including the advanced BarnMini-05 which is ideal for OB vans, airplanes and helicopters.

Barnfind is known for its transport solution that supports any digital protocol, whether electrical or optical. The sophisticated and compact platform eliminates the need for heavy and expensive cabling by allowing up to 36 signals traveling through one single mode fiber over distances up to 80km (50 miles). The recent addition of support for the Ember+ control protocol to the Company’s extensive portfolio of management vendors illustrates the flexibility and ease of the solution’s ability to be controlled by third-party platforms.

BTF1-41 Game Changer Frame now offers optional BNC-32 Mid-Board

Barnfind’s BTF1-41 the Company’s most advanced frame to date, empowers engineering and production professionals to easily overcome distance limitations by combining conversion from copper to fiber and back to copper with distribution and routing of 32+ signals in a 1 RU package.

This Frame grows with any facility as needs change. The BTF1-41 incorporates future-proof technology to address emerging formats such as 4K, HDMI 2.0 and IP, but also supports all legacy formats (including analog video) allowing facility designers and production engineers to utilize new and mature technology seamlessly and with practically no distance limitations. The results are a multi-functional, signal neutral fiber transport platform that widens system design capabilities while permitting system reconfiguration on-the-fly.

The unit features a built in 36 x 36 router and is equipped with a card slot interconnected to a 16 x 16 router that enables it to service additional applications with more capabilities. Enhanced functionality that is available now, or scheduled to launch in the near future, includes up & down conversion, A/V processing, compression, and support for multi-viewers.

New for IBC is an optional multi-format BNC-32 Mid Board for the Frame’s middle slot that allows third-party vendor technology to be integrated into the platform, guaranteeing its longevity. Functionality is upgraded constantly making it resistant to obsolescence. This new card gives the user an electrical – high-density mini-BNC – interface to the crosspoint switch. The mid-board features 16 inputs and outputs. Its multirange capabilities allow signal transparency from low rates up to 12 Gbps. The additional functionality can be controlled and monitored by BarnStudio software, or numerous other control systems.

The multi-range / multi-format BTF1-41 is 12G capable, includes a built-in GPIO, Tally and UMD control. The frame features BarnStudio, Barnfind’s control software, and also offers the same flexible third-party control as the existing BarnOne 3G system.

“IBC is the ideal setting to show our existing customers as well as prospects what is new at Barnfind,” says Wiggo Evensen, Barnfind CEO. “The star of this year’s show for us is the BTF1-41, our most advanced unit to date and the first in the BarnOne series with multi-format 12G capacity that also incorporates HDMI 2.0 functionality. We’re excited to be showing it at IBC with the new option to include a mini-BNC interface that increases its appeal to a larger audience.”

BarnMini-22

Barnfind’s BarnMini-22 is perfect for numerous applications, especially high-end CCTV/surveillance cameras. The unit, capable of supporting any signals up to 12G, extends the BarnMini series by incorporating full built-in management of reclockers and signal control via BarnStudio. The BarnMini-22 follows in the footsteps of the well-known BarnMini-02 and BarnMini-12, two models that have been embraced by demanding clients around the globe by the thousands. Barnfind is one of the very few manufacturers that offers a small unit with 2 x SFP for protocol agnostic signal conversion.

Barnfind’s HiLo SFP system for 36-Channel CWDM are on the Stand illustrating the Company’s unique capability to meet the need for higher density of signals in one single fiber. By using half of the spacing in each wavelength of the CWDM range, the HiLo SFPs can double the capacity of the traditional CWDM bi-directional transmission.

About Barnfind:

Barnfind Technologies AS, headquartered in Sandefjord, Norway, manufactures a multi-function signal transportation platform that supports numerous signals in one frame, including common video, audio and telco formats such as KVM, SDTI, SDI to IP 2110, MADI, 4K 60p workflows, HDMI, DVI, CAM-CCU etc. In addition, there is a full router in the frame with re-clocking on all outputs (BNCs and SFPs), reference input, full redundancy and the capability to have integrated CWDM/DWDM multiplexing.
AMSTERDAM—Panasonic isn’t holding any of its offerings back at this year’s IBC show, Sept. 13-17, announcing a full range of new products covering a range of broadcast needs.

IBC attendees will get an advance preview of Panasonic’s new IT/IP-centric platform, which is expected to launch in 2020. The system is based on an open software architecture and will eventually be applied to multiple Panasonic products, but will first start with a new broadcast video switcher. The video switcher will offer uncompressed processing, true uncompressed 4K inputs and full support of baseband and IP signals. Embracing the latest IP technologies, the video switcher can handle remote production and can be integrated into a full IP-based environment. In addition, if offers support for any kind of signal in a single server and one-frame latency processing.

Another switcher will be shown, the company’s 4K Live Switcher, AV-UHS500. This unit provides 4K/3G/HD multiformat support and has the same number of HD inputs and outputs to be maintained even when operating in 4K. Five optional boards have also been created to increase the number of inputs up to 16 SDI or 8 HDMI. Additional features include five keyers, up/down conversion, HDR/SDR conversion and ITU-R BT.2020/BT.709 conversion functions.

AK-SHB800

Just ahead of its release later in September, the 8K ROI multicamera system will get a spotlight during the conference, including a 8K multipurpose camera (AK-SHB800), a processing unit (AK-SHU800) and framing control software (AK-SFC101). The ROI system can produce four different HD signals, ir “virtual cameras,” from a single 8K camera system, while the sensor produces a wide angle, large canvas.

Panasonic will also have an individual camera on display with the AJ-CX4000GJ broadcast shoulder mount 4K camera. This B4 lens mount, interchangeable lens camera recorder is equipped with a 11MP image sensor for 4K recording via an HEVC codec and is compatible with HDR. Panasonic plans to release the camera in December.

Also set up at the Panasonic stand will be the latest developments in the company’s line of PTZ robotic cameras and controllers. This includes the AW-UE4 Compact 4K PTZ camera with a 111-degree field of view; the 4K PTZ AW-UE150, which is compatible with Virtual Studio and Augmented Reality applications and 4K capable; and the new AW-RP150 and AW-RP60 remote camera controllers.

Panasonic will also display how it has collaborated with third-party systems to complement its robotic technology. Some of the examples will be the Tecnopoint Tuning that offers combinations of motorized dollies, telescopic columns and ceiling and floor tracks for movement of PTZ cameras; Polecam’s Panapod that can mount up to five PTZs at once; and the KST-CamBot.system, a motion-control robotic camera system for TV studio “beauty shots.”

Panasonic will be located at stand 11.C45 during IBC 2019.

AMSTERDAM—Building on its family of FreeSpeak digital wireless intercom products, Clear-Com has announced that the new FreeSpeak Edge system will be on hand at IBC 2019, taking place from Sept. 13-17 in Amsterdam.

Developed based on feedback from FreeSpeak II users, FreeSpeak Edge features a new 5GHz chipset that features an exclusive radio stack development optimized for intercom. It also is implementing state-of-the-art audio over IP developments in its architecture, using AES67 connections between the transceivers and the host intercom frame for flexible deployment.

With FreeSpeak Edge operating in the 5GHz band, it can be managed with frequency coordination for reduced interference while offering a range of RF channels. The higher frequencies provide more bandwidth for data that allows for finer control, additional audio channels, more robustness, lower latency and better audio quality.

FreeSpeak Edge can deliver 12kHz audio quality with ultra low latency and is able to support 100 beltpacks and 64 transceivers during productions. Users can combine the platform with the FreeSpeak II 1.9GHz and 2.4GHz systems to provide three bandwidths across a single unified communications system.

The uniquely designed transceivers and beltpacks for FreeSpeak Edge are meant to offer more customization and control to accommodate complex communication needs. The beltpack features asymmetrical concave/convex top buttons; eight programmable buttons; rotary controls on both sides; a master volume control and flashlight on the bottom; and a mic and speaker for headset-free or desktop operation. The transceiver can support up to 10 beltpacks and includes attenuation and external antennas for custom RF zones, as well as wall and mic stand mounting options.

Clear-Com will display the FreeSpeak Edge at its stand, 10.D29, throughout IBC 2019.

AMSTERDAM—Teradek will showcase its new Prism 4K HEVC encoder/decoder during IBC 2019, Sept. 13-17, at the RAI Amsterdam. The rack-mountable solution for broadcast, live production and Pro AV applications is the first in a new line of codecs, the company said.

Prism’s 2RU chassis can house up to nine blades, each of which supports up to eight channels of audio and is capable of four simultaneous 1080p60 video feeds. The unit can encode and decode up to 4Kp60 video with 10-bit 4:2:2 image sampling.

Offering redundant power and network connections, Prism’s genlock input provides frame sync on decoder outputs. The unit supports a wide variety of streaming protocols, including MPEG-TS, RTP and RTMPS, in addition to SRT and Zixi, Teradek said.

Prism can be connected to Teradek’s IP video management and production platform Core. Doing so, enables users to configure, route, transcode and record IP video streams in the cloud.

The company is planning a near-term release of software to enable support for REMI remote production workflows.

Teradek plans to make Prism available in the fall, and the company is pricing the unit at $2,990 for the 2RU chassis, $1,990 for the 1RU chassis and $2,990 each for the encoder and decoder cards.

“When we began development of Prism, we spent a lot of time working with our customers to produce a solution that would help them transition to a 4K workflow in a cost-conscious manner,” said Nicol Verheem, CEO of Teradek. “To achieve this, we built our platform from the ground up, using a completely new encoding technology stack and a new design philosophy that is better aligned with what our customers are looking for from a next-gen encoder.”

More information is available on the Teradek website.

See Teradek at IBC 2019 stand 12.E65.

AMSTERDAM—Global media technology company MediaKind has announced a slate of new cloud-based systems that make up its MediaKind Universal portfolio that will be on display at IBC 2019: the Aquila Streaming, Cygnus 360-Degree Events, Cygnus Contribution and Cygnus Distribution. These systems are designed to help with core broadcast needs like delivering immersive OTT streaming services, multichannel HD or single channel UHD, remote production and 360-degree video content.

The Aquila Streaming system is a convergent, cloud-based OTT and broadcast headend platform that is designed to allow content to be received, transcoded, multiplexed, packaged, encrypted and managed on- and off-premise, or as a channel-as-a-service or cloud native offering.

With Cygnus 360-Degree Events, operators and content owners can complement existing live services with additional 360-degree video. The system can process and deliver live 360-degree video into resolutions up to 8K and format for simultaneous live publishing over a public CDN or social media platforms. There is also 24/7 technical support and monitoring throughout the staging and broadcasting of the event.

Cygnus Contribution is tasked with providing high-quality, low-latency point-to-point live contribution links via satellite or IP networks, including ingest into a public cloud. Live contribution links include HDR support via satellite or over fiber, allowing for support of the latest IP interfaces and content production standards. Cygnus Contribution can also help enable remote or at-home production using HEVC.

The Cygnus Distribution model, meanwhile, enables operators and broadcasts to distribute live content via satellite and IP networks. It provides ingress and egress of live video and audio from public cloud instances. Cygnus Distribution can be paired with MediaKind’s modular receivers and MK director to secure content across all distribution networks.

MediaKind will have all of these products available at stand 4.A01 during IBC 2019.

Paris, France – September 11, 2019 – Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for broadcasters and content professionals, will showcase at IBC2019 on stand 8.B77 the new version of Dalet Media Cortex, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered media workflow service that puts content intelligence at the fingertips of media professionals. A Software as a Service (SaaS) platform that enables the orchestration of multiple cognitive services in a pay-as-you-go model, Dalet Media Cortex optimizes content production, management and publishing by enriching content and automating workflows. In addition to the existing Dalet Galaxy five augmented workflows, new Dalet Media Cortex integrations, services and features shown at IBC2019 include smart captioning capabilities, improved news and editorials workflows, and integration with Ooyala Flex Media Platform. The new AI enhancements enable both Dalet Galaxy five and Ooyala Flex media Platform customers to produce and distribute more content faster, to more viewers in less time, as well as open doors to new markets.

“Over the last 18 months, we’ve seen the use of AI transition from experimental trials to real-world deployments. Using AI services to automate repetitive, but essential processes, as well as to augment user workflows with contextual insights and timely recommendations resonates with broadcasters and media companies who have to serve more platforms and more markets with more content than ever before,” explains Raoul Cospen, Director of News Market, Dalet. “The key to success is to combine the right mix of AI engines for a given use case and expected outcome, then automatically curate and present the data generated as simple, contextual insights surfaced in end users day-to-day tools. Dalet Media Cortex does just this. It enables media professionals to dedicate more of their time to creating and collaborating effectively and media companies to better serve their audiences with higher quality content and personalized multi-platform experiences.”

Dalet Media Cortex orchestrates combinations of cognitive services, fine-tunes the models, versions the data sets, aligns them with customers’ taxonomies, and eventually surfaces the results at various levels of the Dalet application stack to provide actionable insights and real value to the users and to the organization.

A fully managed service, Dalet Media Cortex can be deployed across the workflow within hours. Its smart metadata approach to classification automatically identifies asset type, defining key search words, sentences and terms, optimizing indexing and use of content across the organization. Seamlessly integrated within the Dalet Galaxy five and Ooyala Flex Media Platform workspace, all AI curated data is presented in a contextual manner, such as a caption or recommendation.

New Dalet Media Cortex integrations, services and feature highlights shown at IBC2019 include:

● Ooyala Flex Media Platform Integration: Populate automatically indexed metadata to OoyalaMAM for easy curation and distribution, increasing monetization opportunities for high volume catalogs and archives.

● Smart Captioning: Dalet Media Cortex can automate up to 90% of manual captioning work, accelerating the process five fold with high quality results. Its speech-to-text capabilities are available in more than 30 languages, opening up revenue opportunities in new markets.

● Improved News and Editorial Workflows: Automatically tag stories and wires. New entity detection capability (locations, persons, organizations) with smart assistant facilitates associated content recommendations for stories from planning all the way through production.

● Custom Dictionary: The custom dictionary allows users to add specific words that are relevant to an industry, a job, and market, optimizing accuracy and results.

● Enhanced Dalet Media Cortex API: Enables media companies to build versatile and extensive workflows leveraging a dynamic combination of microservices to optimize workflow performance (https://www.dalet.com/business-services/media-cortex).

For more information about Dalet Media Cortex, please visit https://www.dalet.com/business-services/media-cortex.

Better Together - Join us for a Very Special Dalet Pulse Event!

This IBC2019, the Dalet Pulse media innovation summit will expand its platform to include Ooyala.
Company also introduces pan/tilt head with integrated electronic controls, and manual tripod systems

Amsterdam – 13 September 2019 – Shotoku Broadcast Systems, international manufacturer of high-quality, easy-to-use, robust and reliable robotic and manual camera support systems, is demonstrating upgrades and additions to its core product platform at IBC in Stand 12.E42. The manufacturer is showcasing new features to its flagship TR-XT Control System that boost safety measures and increase ease-of-shot control and command capabilities. Shotoku is also showing its SmartPed fully robotic XY pedestal with enhanced navigation, highlighting its globally adopted SmartRail ceiling/floor mounted robotic track system, and debuting itsTG-18i pan/tilt head. On the manual side, Shotoku will introduce a series of ENG/EFP camera support tripod systems to the European market.

“IBC is a great venue to launch new features that add functionality to our product line-up, such as the LiveView option for our TR-XT control system, or support for the new Absolute Navigation Interface (ANI) incorporated into SmartPed,“ says James Eddershaw, managing director of Shotoku UK. “But we are also sensitive to the fact that our customers always want to see our core systems that have been fully proven in the field and adopted by some of the best-known broadcasters and the most demanding environments all around the world. We’re happy to have a balance of brand-new products mixed with tried and true at this year’s Stand.”

Shotoku’s TR-XT, the centre piece of the Company’s robotic camera control system, combines ease-of-use with scalability to make it ideal for 24/7 live studio production. At IBC the system is being shown with several new and highly advanced features allowing operators to make on-the-fly adjustments from third party systems, create and manage safe zones for free roaming pedestals, and reposition heads with additional touch control options for more creative shots.

Adjustments On-the-Fly

As part of the TR-XT extended automation interface (ECIPlus) the system now accepts shot recall commands from main and backup automation systems as well as complete joystick control, so on-the-fly adjustments to camera positions, even while under computer control, can be achieved from an external automation or face tracking system.

Studio No-Go Zones

TR-XT now also supports the creation and management of operational zones for free roaming (SmartPed) and rail-based (SmartRail) cameras such that safe areas, and no-go zones, are always enforced. A different set of no-go zones can be created for each studio layout and stored within the Show definition of the TR-XT. Complex curve sequence moves can be previewed with the Zone display to show operators exactly how the camera will transition through the studio.

See the Bigger Picture with LiveView

The TR-XT is being shown with the revolutionary new LiveView option that uses a secondary IP video camera to provide a wide-angle scene view for each camera and enables operators to command heads to new positions simply by touching on a wide-angled live video view of the studio. Touching an area on the LiveView screen will smoothly reposition the head towards the selected presenter, guest or other area of interest.

SmartPed Robotic Pedestal Gets Around

Engineered for continuous use in high-profile live TV productions day after day, Shotoku’s SmartPed Robotic Pedestal design has reliability and ease of use built-in from the start. SmartPed now supports the new Absolute Navigation Interface (ANI) system enabling an embedded Shotoku or customer supplied external absolute navigation (i.e. optical tracking) system to provide always-referenced pedestal position data. SmartPed supports the creative and commercial demands of countless channels in on-air environments around the globe.

SmartRail Elevates Performance for Creativity and Control

SmartRail, specifically intended for live studio broadcasts that operate 24x7, is a world leading track system ideal for full-size camera configurations. It can be mounted in floor as well as ceiling installations and comes with a range of elevation columns to suit almost any application and budget. Ceiling mounted systems provide an extended elevate/descend range as well as dolly drive allowing the camera to descend to eye-level and also elevate for the higher-level sweeping shots, all with fully integrated motion and under a single Shotoku control system. The advanced design of the elevation column makes it possible to raise cameras to new heights while retaining stability and smoothness of on-air control. Elevation control works upright for floor-tracks or inverted for ceiling-tracks to allow maximum creativity in production design.

Shotoku’s first ceiling track system was installed in 2015 and has been on-air every day since. Today Shotoku has successfully installed SmartRail ceiling track systems all around the world, at a wide range of clients from small studios to large broadcast facilities. As with all Shotoku robotics systems, SmartRail incorporates VR/AR tracking data output.

TG-18 PT Head with Integrated Electronics

The universally deployed TG-18 PT head designed for any studio application requiring a full-size payload and instant switchover between manual or remote operation, is being shown with its new fully integrated electronic control system. The same powerful CMC electronics module used on all standalone TG-18 systems can now optionally be embedded within the body of the TG-18 itself, providing a compact unit with AC power and network connections directly to the head. Fully compatible with the traditional external CMC solution the TG-18i provides added choice for customers dependent on the configuration of their system.

NEW AND NEWSWORTHY MANUAL CAMERA SUPPORT

The new SX200 and SX260 ENG/EFP camera support systems feature a brand-new ground-up design. The systems incorporate Shotoku’s “Truebalance” which delivers perfect counterbalance and is also easy to adjust throughout the range with an intuitive display to indicate the current setting. The drag system uses Shotoku’s well known “Viscam” design but adds a new actuation system that combines the convenience and speed of selection of a stepped approach, with the fine tuning and on-shot adjustment of a continuously variable design. These 2 core features are poised to set the new standard for movement and control for high-end ENG support systems.

The SX200 has a max payload of 20Kg (44Lbs) and the SX260 25Kg (55Lbs). Partnered with a new 2-stage ENG carbon fiber tripod with fast action de-tented leg locks for quick setup and teardown, the system is also one of the lightest on the market at this payload and performance level.

Shotoku will also show the recently launched SD & SE Manual Tripod Series. The SD range, available in 2 variants, has been developed to provide a quality, affordable system for handheld cameras. The SE range provides support with high functionality and wide-ranging applications for the extended range of camera systems now available.

About Shotoku Broadcast Systems

Shotoku Broadcast Systems is an international leader in the manufacture and marketing of a full range of camera support products with emphasis on manual and robotic pedestals and pan/tilt heads for the television broadcast industry.
Medialooks Brings Upgraded Software Development Toolsto Market at IBC2019

Company’s SDKs Get Additional Support for 8K and HDR Formats

Amsterdam – September 13, 2019 – Medialooks, a prominent source for software developers seeking quick, easy and reliable Software Development Kits (SDKs), is bringing upgraded versions of its popular platforms to IBC 2019. Used by industry visionaries to build market-leading products, Medialooks’ MFormats and MPlatform SDKs are being demonstrated with support for 8K and HDR formats at the show on Stand 3.B39 (X-Dreams).

“We specialise in software development kits and APIs for everything from ingest to contribution and distribution of high-quality video content,” explains Andrey Okunev, Medialooks CEO. “Our solutions save months of work with our flexible video development framework, and they easily integrate with C#, VB.Net, C++, and Delphi. We are especially proud to bring this upgraded tool-set to IBC that includes support for advanced and emerging formats, such as 8K and HDR.”

Medialooks’ MFormats SDK provides a flexible framework that enables users to take control of their video workflow and deliver applications in the shortest time period that fully addresses the proper way video should be processed. It helps create professional broadcasting solutions for a vast range of equipment spanning from Blackmagic devices to easy-to-use web cameras.

Medialooks’ MPlatform SDK is a rapid software development kit for 24/7 ingest, video mixing, CG and playout automation. Users can easily leverage the SDK’s set of high-level features, however, for specific use cases and achieve rapid results.

Medialooks’ support for the new formats in its SDKs is in direct response to the emergence of new devices such as the DeckLink 8K Pro, and developments such as broadcasters migrating to production in 8K. This, along with the Company’s HDR10 update, is based on the introduction of the GPU pipeline earlier this year, which was the foundation for processing 10-bit video.

Other updates include support for industry-compliant DVB streaming and finalizing our implementation of the EBU R 128 (ITU-R BS.1770) audio normalization standard.

Medialooks’ licensing pricing is offered royalty-free.

About Medialooks

Medialooks, established in 2005, serves as a partner to global companies seeking fast, quality software development tools to transform ideas to reality, and to organizations requiring low-latency video transport over the public Internet for remote production. Medialooks has provided services to a wide range of markets, including broadcast, entertainment, sports, media serving, medical, surveillance, education, house of worship, and more.

For further information: www.medialooks.com

Medialooks contact:

Tim Tselikovski

Email: Tim@medialooks.com

Press contact:

Desert Moon Communications / Harriet Diener

Email: harriet@desertmoon.tv

Phone: +1-845-512-8283

Chelmsford, Mass. – Sept. 5, 2019 – Broadcast Pix™ is launching RadioPix™, an integrated production system for visual radio applications, at IBC2019 (Stand 7.C53) in Amsterdam. Ideal for radio studios using fixed or PTZ cameras, RadioPix features a dedicated user interface designed for easy setup and operation of dynamic yet automated video-follow-audio productions.

‘With more than 200 radio stations in Europe already using Broadcast Pix Integrated production systems, we felt it was time to produce a dedicated product for visual radio featuring a complete toolset and a streamlined user experience,” said Tony Mastantuono, product manager, Broadcast Pix.

Using Broadcast Pix’s advanced macros, RadioPix can roll clips and animations, add or remove titles, select camera presets, and even execute picture-in-picture compositions based on the active microphone. In addition, users can set conditions to avoid camera changes for one-word comments (or coughs) and create dynamic camera moves within long discussions. The host can also override the automated system using a smartphone, tablet, or laptop.

IBC2019 attendees will be able to control a Broadcast Pix visual radio system at Hogeschool van Amsterdam remotely from the show floor.

Broadcast Pix will showcase RadioPix during IBC by remotely controlling a recently installed system at Hogeschool van Amsterdam. “The reason why we picked Broadcast Pix is because we are working with students and we need systems that are easy to understand,” explained Mike van der Meulen, HvA Campus Creators. “Without a lot of training, our students can create professional looking visual radio shows.”

About Broadcast Pix
Founded in 2002, Broadcast Pix offers the complete toolset required to make great programs, elegantly integrated and easy to use. Our systems feature patented control and automation technologies, plus the BPNet ecosystem that provides cost effective, secure cloud services for backup, control, and collaboration.
BARCELONA, SPAIN – September 3, 2019 – At the upcoming IBC (International Broadcasting Convention) in September, TVU Networks, the global leader in live IP solutions, will introduce the completely cloud-based TVU Talkshow - the first all-in-one solution for multi-camera production that enables audience participation with video. TVU Networks will introduce the TVU Talkshow solution and its full line of products and services for live video content workflow at the RAI Conference Center in Hall 2, Stand B28 during IBC.

TVU Talkshow supports bi-directional audience participation, enabling fans to engage with an event or hosted show in real-time. An unlimited number of participants can video call in using the TVU Talkshow app on their mobile phone. TVU Talkshow’s integrated caller management system enables producers to pre-screen all callers. TVU Talkshow also supports IFB management to ensure effective and seamless communication whether it’s hosts interacting with callers or the producers, production crew and camera operators coordinating with each other.

As the solution is based entirely in the cloud, there is no wiring required and operation is simplified with one, centralized GUI that can be operated from a web browser. TVU Talkshow can simultaneously deliver live content to multiple destinations , such as social media platform like Facebook Live or YouTube Live, the CDN or web page of your choice, and over 3000 major TV stations globally on TVU Grid, as well as traditional SDI output through a TVU receiver.

Furthermore, TVU Talkshow is an open platform which enables third party providing their services by integrating them through TVU Open API. The integration with cloud-based Singular.live IP graphics platform, provides advanced real-time graphics overlay capabilities to Producer's live production environment from any location.

“There’s nothing like TVU Talkshow on the market right now,” said David Jorba, Executive Vice President, Managing Director Europe, TVU Networks. “It’s the first cloud-based multi-camera production solution to support and manage unlimited live audience participation with video."

“TVU Talkshow was designed to be a highly flexible all-in-one solution, with modular video production components. Combining a number of patented technologies, such as frame accurate synchronization technology, TVU Talkshow enables producers to do a broadcast quality live production accessing TVU's cloud-based platform from anywhere, with maximum scalability and an efficient pay-for-what-you-use business model.”

Embedded with H.265 encoding and patented IS+ transmission algorithm, fans can send live Full HD video from anywhere using their smartphone – be it a crowded stadium, mountain range overseas or even a fast-moving vehicle – to the studio and contribute to the conversation live.

“By incorporating lower cost and proven remote and studio applications, we’re enabling broadcasters to extend their reach to niche markets by producing live shows and events with the frequency and resolution previously reserved for much larger productions,” added Jorba.

Examples of recent TVU Talkshow use already include Fox Noire in the US and Sky Sports’ the Football Social in Europe. The Sky Sports’ live talk show, Football Social, streamed on youtube and Facebook reached more than 17 million online views for the 2018/2019 Premier League season using the bi-directional remote audience participation feature from TVU Talkshow. Fox Noire, a new streaming channel focused on the African American experience in Los Angeles, is also an early user.

The cloud-based TVU Producer allows producers to make quick cuts, insert graphic overlays, switch between multiple sources, manage audio, compile highlights and instant replays, capture slow-motion clips, and push finalized content to TV and the Internet. Visual radio producers have discovered the benefits of the easy-to-use TVU Producer for the creation of cost-efficient live production that can be immediately streamed to online platforms. The non-profit group, the AIMS Foundation, has used TVU Producer to live stream two classical music concerts on Facebook and Youtube to increase awareness of the foundation.

TVU Remote Production System (RPS) enables synchronized multi-camera remote production using a broadcaster’s existing studio control room and a public Internet connection from the field. Up to six camera feeds are automatically synchronized and transmitted from a remote location back to the studio over IP, reducing the need for on-site production trucks or large crews. Al Kamel Systems, a leading motor sports live stats broadcast production specialist, uses TVU RPS to add racing graphics from remote sites. The 2019 World Roller Games held in Barcelona, Spain, used TVU RPS to broadcast from various remote locations in five cities. Six synchronized signals were sent to La Xarxa for distribution.

About TVU Networks®

TVU Networks has over 3,000 customers globally. The TVU Networks family of IP transmission and live production solutions gives broadcasters and organizations a powerful and reliable workflow to distribute live video content to broadcast, online and mobile platforms. TVU has become a critical part of the operations of many major media companies. For most facilities, the transition from SDI to IP will be a gradual one, and products such as our SDI AoIP Node will help ease that transition.”

With two independent 3Gb/s HD/SD-HDI inputs and outputs, the SDI AoIP Node offers up to eight audio pairs from either or both SDI inputs that can be de-embedded and converted to AES67.

As IP audio streams, they are available as network sources that can be monitored, distributed or have their loudness controlled with the Linear Acoustic AERO.8000 processing engine. Up to eight audio pairs of networked audio can then be re-embedded—and pair shuffled if desired—into two independent SDI outputs.

With 3G video standards support, the SDI AoIP Node can be integrated seamlessly into UHD facilities. In SMPTE ST 2110-based facilities, the unit’s AES67 I/O offers native support for SMPTE ST 2110-30, including two-channel streams with a 1ms packet time.

The unit includes two Ethernet ports—one for AES67 and the other for networked remote control accessed via a browser-agnostic, web-based user interface. The SDI AoIP Node also has redundant internal auto-ranging power supplies and comes with a two-year limited parts and labor warranty.

See Telos Alliance at IBC 2019 stand 8.D47.

More information is available on the Telos Alliance website.

Tokyo, Japan, September 4, 2019 – In support of the many broadcasters still transitioning from traditional SDI to IP-based systems, the FOR-A® booth at IBC 2019 will include hybrid IP/SDI products, such as: the USF-10IP IP Gateway, the SOM-100 media orchestration platform, and the MBP-1000VS-IP video server.

FOR-A has an array of production switchers, video servers, processors and test signal generators that support both 12G-SDI/4K and 3G-SDI/HD resolution. The company is a proponent of 12G-SDI technology as an ideal format for sports and other 4K productions, because it offers reliability, ease of operation and industry-standard interfacing.

IBC 2019 will be held from September 13-17 at the RAI Amsterdam. FOR-A will exhibit in Hall 2, Stand A51.

One product that serves as a bridge between IP and baseband environments is FOR-A’s USF-10IP IP Gateway series. The USF-10IP series is a 10 GbE video-over-IP module series that offers high-quality conversion of any standard IP video format, including: SMPTE ST 2022-6/7 and SMPTE ST 2110. The unit also acts as a translator between SDI baseband and IP systems and is compatible with 4K UHD (2SI/SQD) and multi-format input/output video.

Available modules offered in this series include: the USF-10IP, which converts between IP formats; the USF-10IPSDI6-FS, which comes standard with one 12G-SDI input and one output, 2SI/SQD conversion, and offers simultaneous conversion of up to six inputs/outputs selectable with six streams; and the USF-10IPSDI12-FS module, which also comes standard with one 12G-SDI input and one output, as well as 2SI/SQD conversion, and offers simultaneous conversion of up to six inputs and six outputs, selectable with twelve streams. The USF-10IPSDI-6-FS and the USF-10IPSDI12-FS offer a TICO encoder/decoder. With this encoder/decoder, 12G-SDI 4K UHD uncompressed images can be compressed to TICO and processed via 10GbE network.

An integrated baseband/IP control and monitoring system, the SOM-100 is also designed based on hierarchical architecture using Ember+ for a flexible system configuration to be used in a mixed SDI/IP environment. It delivers seamless interoperability between baseband and IP equipment and traffic management. The SOM-100 provides operation of a variety of video equipment such as SDI/IP/RS422 routers, multi viewers, video processors, tally devices and button panels, and monitored centrally from its GUI.

At IBC 2019, the MBP-1000VS-IP IP video server, the ESG-4200 test signal generator, the MFR-3000 routing switcher, the USF-10IP-SDI6-FS IP gateway, the MV-1220 multi viewer, the Media Links MD8600 video gateway and the MDX4090 IP video switcher & router are controlled by the SOM-100 in a SDI/IP hybrid system.

SDI and IP routing switchers are managed as one routing switcher in a virtual group. The SOM-100 can execute routing system control and process control, so that it supports collective operational changes of multiple pieces of equipment and executes time reservation. The system also features a web interface for easy access from multiple computers.

A 12G-SDI/IP multi-channel video server, the MBP-1000VS series is ideal for 4K editing environments, offering multi-input/output 4K and HD support and ingest, playout and 4K recording functionality. FOR-A is offering a range of MBP-1000VS interfaces for 12G-SDI or video over IP transmission, including 12G-SDI, 3G-SDI, and SFP+, to accommodate varying user needs for inputs/outputs and size of internal storage (SSD). The MBP-1000VS-IP includes a SFP+ port for 10 Gbps video over IP I/O. It supports up to eight-channel MPEG-2 codec or four-channel 4K XVAC™ codec and can switch channels from encoding to decoding as needed. Supported formats for video over IP include SMPTE ST 2022-6 and ST 2110.

There will also be presentations and a panel discussion with representatives from Amazon Web Services (AWS) Elemental, Cobalt Digital, DVEO, Net Insight, Open Broadcast Systems, VideoFlow and Zixi.

A variety of topics will be discussed, including: the RIST Main Profile, encryption, high-end live media workflows, delivery of content to tens of millions of people using RIST, as well as how RIST and the cloud are transforming content distribution and the future of the format, the forum said.

“RIST is all about the combination of interoperability and innovation, giving the broadcast industry a simple yet highly effective method for interchanging professional signals between different vendors,” said Alexander Sandström, co-chair of the RIST Forum. “RIST has the potential to solve a lot of the complexity with live media workflows.”

RIST was jointly developed by a group of experts using a standards-based approach. The cards target for a variety of applications and can operate in four different modes, offering unmatched flexibility, the company said.

As an 8K SDI <> fiber converter, the module transports and converts up to 8K-SDI (12G, 6G, 3G, HD, SD) over optical fiber cable and vice-versa.

Operating as a 12G-SDI re-clocking distribution amplifier, the module carries 4K video on a single cable and is suitable for any SDI video signal up to 12G for 4K applications.

This new Series 5000 card also enables single-link 12G SDI signals to be converted to quad-link 3G-SDI and vice versa (i.e. quad-link 3G-SDI signals to be converted to single-link 12G-SDI). 6G to/from quad-link 1.5G conversions are also supported. With many facilities still running in a 3G environment, there are many requirements to integrate 4K/UHD signals in 12G-SDI into the infrastructure. In this mode, the DVD 5480 HO module enables users to convert UHD signals between quad-link 3G and single-link 12G SDI.

LYNX Technik will be in stand 8.C65 at the IBC Show, Sept. 13-17 in Amsterdam.

Videosys Broadcast, a leading supplier of quality camera control systems, RF links and camera backs to outside broadcast providers will unveil Epsilon, the company’s new multi-function broadcast RF camera control system at IBC 2019, on stand 10.F21. Epsilon includes a fully integrated 4K decoder and receiver and is an ideal solution for HD and 4K live sports and music events.

Epsilon is comprised of base and head modules with the decoder, receiver, camera control and fibre contained in one single base unit. This means that the operator only has to rig one unit instead of the traditional four units. The base unit is then connected via a single SMPTE cable to the head unit, further reducing cabling and removing the complexity of set-up and maintenance. By significantly reducing rig time and equipment count, Epsilon delivers wide area coverage in stadia, large studio environments, houses of worship and educational centres in a simple and efficient way. Epsilon works seamlessly with the 4K Aeon-CC digital video transmitter to provide the complete 4K wireless RF system.

Colin Tomlin, Managing Director, Videosys Broadcast says, “We understand the complexities associated with deployments of a wireless RF system for live events, whether that’s for sport, music or live studio shows. With the increase in demand for 4K services, the deployment has become more complex and costly. As a result, we created the Epsilon 4K system to simplify 4K management by reducing equipment count and cost of deployment. We are excited to showcase Epsilon at IBC 2019 and look forward to seeing our customers’ reactions on the stand.”

Videosys Broadcast is a leading supplier of quality camera control systems, RF links and camera backs to outside broadcast providers. At the forefront of technological innovation, Videosys Broadcast has successfully partnered with leading technology companies including, DTC, Wave Central, Hitachi, Panasonic, Ikegami, and Grass Valley. The company, which has over 500 deployments worldwide, manages projects and design from concept to the finished article from its UK head office. Its systems are used by all the major broadcasters and operators around the world. Live events broadcast using Videosys Broadcast systems include the Olympics, Tour de France, the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race and Premier league, to name a few.

Frank Lozano is on a mission.

“I’ve filmed orphanages in Haiti, AIDs clinics in Nigeria, I have documented digging water wells in Burkina Faso, Africa, and told the heartbreaking story of two married Holocaust survivors that met in a concentration camp,” says Lozano. The imagery he creates is inspiring. Visual storytelling may be the only way to accurately convey what the first drop of clean, accessible drinking water can mean to a people who have never known one.

Frank’s corporate clients include a resort in Cambodia, and his photographs have had gallery showings. The documentary filmmaker and veteran photographer has a professional background as diverse as the places he has traveled. Based out of Los Angeles, his projects have taken him all over the world.

“Since most of the organizations don’t have budgets, I use the gear that I own and have a very small footprint. I am currently shooting with the Sony A7III and carry my older Canon 5DMKIII as a backup,” says Frank. For sticks, Frank uses the Cartoni Focus 8, a lightweight tripod with the stability to create his precise time-lapse sequences and provide camera movement that is smooth and natural. The Cartoni Focus 8 can handle payloads of up to 17.7 pounds and thanks to the SDS Tripod legs, it sets up & folds in an instant.

Frank’s own career arc is as unscripted as the many projects he works on. “I used to be “on-air” at Power 106 FM as ‘Lozano on the Loose’ from 1989-2001,” says Frank. “Even though I was a disc jockey, I always had my camera and took pics of the artists that came into the studio, and I have some good ones - Eminem, Mariah, Lionel Ritchie, Carrie Underwood - many of these photos have never been shared publicly.”

Frank Lozano during his time with radio station Power 106. Shown here with his classic Cartoni tripod

But Frank’s love of photography and the moving image began long before he picked up a mic. “I guess you would say I have been shooting since I was in middle school and I have my mom to thank or blame for that,” says Frank. “She always had a 35mm film camera and a Super 8 movie camera around the house, and I started telling stories with those tools editing footage with blade and tape.” Recently, a high school classmate posted a photo of Frank back in the day with his 35mm in hand.

And it turns out Frank has a history with Cartoni. “Fifteen years ago when I was giving my time as the media director for a local church, they had two Cartoni tripods, and I used them whenever I could,” says Frank. “Back then, I didn’t have the budget to invest in a Cartoni, so I purchased a ton of other tripods and, like most shooters, I have a stack of them in my garage.”

A couple of years ago, Frank finally got a Cartoni from Band Pro in Burbank, and after using it the first day, he was sold on it. “With all the money I spent on inferior tripods, I could have purchased several Cartonis,” he says.

Frank Lozano used his Cartoni Focus 8 while on a shoot in Cambodia

Frank Lozano used his Cartoni Focus 8 while on a shoot in Cambodia

Frank Lozano used his Cartoni Focus 8 while on a shoot in Cambodia

Frank Lozano used his Cartoni Focus 8 while on a shoot in Cuba

Frank’s background in both radio and film has allowed him the opportunity to serve not only his community but people around the world. He has his own nonprofit - GlobalPointMinistries.org. “The projects I am drawn to are varied,” says Frank. “I run my own sound using my Sound Device MixPre6 with four wireless lavs and am looking to convert to all Sony glass and get another Sony camera as the budget warrants.”

The Cartoni will be with him. “If I had just invested sooner, I would have saved myself tons of frustration with shots I didn’t like or could not use because the sticks were cheap,” says Frank. “It is so nice to shoot with a tripod that is solid, steady, and reliable.”

“I love giving back,” says Frank and if you look at his amazing body of professional and nonprofit work, you will quickly see that is not a cliché. Check out his website, lozanoproductions.com and on social media at @franklozano. Frank jokingly says, “I have helped out so many non-profits, I’m the only one who is not profiting.” Frank laughs and continues by saying “But it’s that same spirit that has taken me to some pretty cool locations to tell stories that needed to be told. That’s my mission”.

Manios Digital is the exclusive US distributor of Cartoni Camera Supports.

###

AMSTERDAM—Rohde & Schwarz will introduce a new compact 2U version of its R&S SpycerNode media storage system at the 2019 IBC Show. The company said the small capacity system represents Rohde’s “competitively priced entry point” into a storage market that increasingly embraces High Power Computing based on high speed Ethernet connectivity rather than Fibre Channel. Rohde & Schwarz said it will also introduce several new JBOD capacity extension units, which provide affordable storage capacity expansion for their other SpycerNode models.

The company will also launch R&S SpycerPAM, a production asset management system, which allows workgroup editing and seamless integration of various editing and mastering platforms including Adobe Premier, Avid Media Composer and Apple Final Cut Pro.

The company used the announcement to tout its support for Ethernet connectivity to eventually replace Fibre Channel, a 25-year old technology that is seeing only modest growth.

“The Fibre Channel standard was completed in 1994 and it has served the media industry well, but in essence there are only around nine manufacturers developing Fibre Channel technology,” said Oliver Gappa, sales director of broadcast and media for Europe for Rohde. “Compare this to high-speed Ethernet, where there are over 500 companies, such as Juniper, Arista and Cisco introducing new products every year and the future is clear.

“Today, if you look at Fibre Channel relative to high-speed Ethernet, there is no comparison,” Gappa continued. “The future is Ethernet and yet some media storage manufacturers continue to promote Fibre Channel, which presents real risks for their customers.“

Gappa‘s remarks are backed up by industry data. On the one hand, the Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) reports that the Fibre Channel market saw a return to modest growth in 2018. In comparison, the Open DeviceNet Vendor Association (ODVA) reports strong growth in Ethernet switch connectivity. In 2018, port shipments for 100Gb Ethernet switches rose 154.6% year over year to 3.5 million, while 25Gb ports saw even higher growth rates with port shipments up 251.0% to 2.6 million and 40Gb port shipments rose too, growing 12.6% year over year to 1.3 million.

Rohde & Schwarz will be in Stand 7.B21 at the 2019 IBC Show at the RAI Amsterdam, Sept. 13-17.

The Personnel Manager’s rules engine has also been updated to track all user-defined conditions, alert staff when thresholds are exceeded, compute costs and prepare timesheets.

Additional upgrades have been made to the Transmission Module, including new functionality to manage technical compatibility and service compatibility. Users can automatically create a technically correct circuit while simultaneously ensuring selected devices perform the service required.

Xytech will feature these updates at its stand, 6.C22, during IBC 2019.

This will allow existing installed units to be upgraded in the field while new units with the new mixed media card will just need a software upgrade. Both upgrade paths will be available for the same price. Now with a 25GE interface, Prism can provide support for a range of media networks, from SDI to 4K HDR and WGC.

The 25GE option is available in both Prism form factors, the 3RU 9-inch full touchscreen, MPI2-25, as well as the 1RU rasterizer, MPX2-25. Prism IP measurements are also available in all models. HDR/WGC features like STOP waveform, CIE charts and false color displays can be used for 4K content creation via 25GE.

Telestream will demonstrate this at its stands, 7.C16 & 7.C14, during IBC 2019.
