HOLLYWOOD—After several years of controversies, Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge have agreed to acquire all the Golden Globes’ assets, rights, and properties from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). 

Financial terms were not disclosed. 

As part of the deal DCP and its partners reported that they will plan, host, and produce the annual Golden Globe Awards show and will pursue commercial opportunities for the Golden Globes across the globe. Those will include negotiating a new deal for a broadcaster to air the show in the U.S.

In addition, HFPA who had run the awards show, has announced that it will shut down. Funds from the transaction will be used to create the Golden Globe Foundation, a California nonprofit public-benefit corporation that will continue HFPA’s entertainment-related charitable giving. 

“We are excited to close on this much anticipated member-approved transaction and transition from a member-led organization to a commercial enterprise,” said Helen Hoehne, president of HFPA.

HFPA had been dogged by a number of controversies in recent years with critics complaining about the lack of diversity in its membership and other issues. Following those complaints, NBC refused to air the awards show in 2022 though it returned to the broadcaster in 2023. 

The Golden Globe Awards, viewed in more than 220 countries and territories worldwide, will be controlled by DCP, the world’s largest producer and proprietor of televised live event entertainment programming.

The 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday, January 7, 2024, kicking off the entertainment industry’s highly anticipated awards season.

Currently there is no broadcaster lined up to air the Globes next year in the U.S. NBC's contract for the awards show has expired. 

LOS ANGELES—The Golden Globes will not be broadcast on NBC in 2022 as the award ceremonies parent organization, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) is under heavy scrutiny for its lack of diversity and underwhelming response to fix it, as well as some questionable financial practices.

“We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform,” said NBC. “However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right. As such, NBC will not air the 2022 Golden Globes.  Assuming the organization executes on its plan, we are hopeful we will be in a position to air the show in January 2023.”

Other Hollywood entities including Netflix, Amazon and Warner Media have already announced they will boycott the Golden Globes.

SANTA MONICA, CALIF.—Facebook and the Golden Globes are now friends, as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and dick clark productions have announced a new partnership with the social media website to serve as the exclusive live streaming platform for the official red carpet pre-show for the 75th Golden Globe Awards. The partnership will also include exclusive red carpet and backstage content on Facebook and Instagram.

“The HFPA Presents: Globes Red Carpet Live” will be a two-hour pre-show that features interviews with nominees and celebrities. Facebook 360 videos will also be captured and shared on the Golden Globes Facebook page. The pre-show will stream from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET and will be hosted by AJ Gibson, Jeannie Mai, Scott Mantz and Laura Marano. The Instagram Story will be hosted by Marano as well.

Exclusive video and photo content from backstage will be capture through the Instagram immersive studio experience shot by photographer Ramona Rosales and will be posted in real time. The HFPA will also incorporate a community driven Q&A into the backstage press room, where select questions will be sourced via Facebook and live streamed on the Golden Globes Facebook page.

The 75th Golden Globe Awards will take place live on Jan. 7 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET with host Seth Meyers.

SAN FRANCISCO—Twitter will be hob-knobbing it with some of Hollywood’s biggest celebrities at this year’s Golden Globes Awards, as the social media site has announced a partnership with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and Dick Clark Productions to provide a live stream of the Golden Globes official red carpet pre-show.

The broadcast will be available in the U.S. for Twitter’s logged-in and logged-out users on Twitter and connected devices. The pre-show will feature exclusive interviews and Twitter content, as well as questions sourced from Twitter users. Hosts for the pre-show are expected to be announced soon.

This is another step in Twitter’s goal to providing live streaming broadcasts of major events to its users. The social media site has already offered live streams of a handful of NFL “Thursday Night Football” games this season.

“The HFPA Presents: Golden Globes Red Carpet Live” will take place on Jan. 8 from 6-8 p.m. ET.
