HACKENSACK, N.J.—LiveU has launched LiveU Nexus, a new cloud-native universal gateway for digital and IP-based workflows, enabling customers to create even more value from their LiveU EcoSystem setup. LiveU Nexus seamlessly moves IP-video content in and out of different platforms and environments, including SDI, SMPTE 2110 and NDI-based production systems, using existing and new workflows.

The company will demo LiveU Nexus at its stand (7.C19) during the 2025 IBC Show, Sept. 12-15 at the RAI Amsterdam.

Designed to simplify complex IP workflows—especially digital video capturing—LiveU Nexus acts as an efficient and reliable universal gateway for all IP-based feeds within the LiveU EcoSystem. It offers unlimited access to live feeds to and from any systems, letting users bring in, transform, route and output any stream in seconds.

Any types of feeds can be seamlessly connected from anywhere, to anywhere, including LiveU's own LRT (LiveU Reliable Transport), SRT, RTMP, HLS and more to on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure. Producers can pull in live content from Zoom, YouTube and other social media platforms with a simple URL or meeting link—no converters or workarounds required, according to the company.

"Broadcasters are under mounting pressure to integrate a growing number of IP and digital video sources,” said Matt Zajicek, VP Product for LiveU. “LiveU Nexus changes the game, accelerating their digital transformations and future-proofing their digital and IP-video workflows. By cutting technical barriers and costs, production teams can focus on creating great content faster and smarter—while maximizing existing investments. It's already been successfully tested by customers, and we're excited about the potential ahead."

Key features include:

Protocol conversion – Transforming any IP format to LRT and other leading protocols, LiveU Nexus pushes any live stream into the LiveU EcoSystem or third-party solutions without any additional hardware or converter.

Digital/social media capturing and routing – includes Zoom meetings, YouTube videos and Facebook Lives into broadcast workflows, and a web browser as an input inside.

Elastic cloud scalability – built to grow with production demands in the cloud, as workflows evolve.

Resolutions, frame rates, aspect ratio, and codec differences are automatically normalized across the feeds, ensuring every signal is instantly compatible with the downstream tools.
NEW YORK—swXtch.io has amplified its support for SRT workflows with a new specialized gateway solution primarily targeted at the live event market. To be introduced at IBC 2025, Sept. 12-15 at the RAI Amsterdam, the new software-based SRTx Gateway from swXtch.io uses the inherent strengths of the SRT transport protocol for robust content protection across public internet and 5G connections, and leverages the company’s networking expertise to enable the highest stream density for an SRT gateway on the market.

Further, swXtch.io allows customers to deploy as many SRTxGateway instances as they like wherever they require—either on-prem or in the cloud. Users are only billed a simple rate per hour for each stream that enters or exits the gateway.

swXtch.io has effectively applied its advanced multicast technology to SRT transport to enable hundreds of broadcast-quality compressed video workflows, such as H.264 or HEVC, through a single cloudSwXtch network. Comparatively, the same volume of high-bandwidth workflows would typically require multiple separate SRT gateways to achieve the same high-quality, low-latency throughput—a substantial reduction of networking infrastructure for large-scale productions like live sports, as well as emerging virtual production workflows, the company said.

swXtch.io’s new SRTx Gateway will also support JPEG-XS, ST 2117-1 (VC-6), and uncompressed ST 2110 workflows—which SwXtch.io says is an “industry first breakthrough,” providing “exceptional value” for remote production, distribution and monitoring operations.

“SRT is the de facto standard for mobile content producers and other REMI operations due its transport reliability and ease of use,” said Brent Yates, CEO, swXtch.io. “We are advancing the possibilities of SRT’s video and audio agnostic capabilities by utilizing our proven technology to carry an array of formats, codecs and resolutions into and through the cloud in numbers never achieved, while also evolving SRT’s point-to-point connectivity into a switched protocol. It is not only highly reliable and efficient operationally, but a simple and effective drop-in replacement for multiple separate, existing SRT gateways.”

swXtch.io will also demonstrate how cloudSwXtch simplifies SRT stream configuration while offering complete observability of SRT streams through its wXcked Eye user interface. wXcked Eye provides users with a network map that populates all stream views and channel views, along with flexible parameters for how each customer configures and looks at their broadcast networks. For a customer sending SRT workflows from cameras, satellite, encoding and other sources into and through cloudSwXtch, wXcked Eye provides complete control to configure and manage the many different protocols and conversions required for reliable, scalable throughput.

The swXtch.io will demonstrate its new SRTx Gateway and other on-prem and cloud innovations from the cloudSwXtch family at Bridge Technologies (Stand 1.A71) and Microsoft (Stand 14.A70) at IBC2025.

PHILADELPHIA—Comcast has launched a new, gateway with Tri-Band WiFi 6E technology that delivers faster speeds, lower latency, and quick access to the internet for apartment residents and building owners.

The gateway allows building owners to activate additional networks to power Smart technologies and provide residents and building staff with seamless WiFi coverage across an entire property.

With space-saving and wall-mountable design. Comcast said the gateway represents a significant leap forward in addressing the unique connectivity needs of apartment residents and property owners alike.

When pre-installed throughout a property, this Multifamily Xfinity Broadband Gateway offers property owners an easy way to provide tenants ‘Instant On’ WiFi access without waiting for equipment, scheduling a service appointment, or speaking to an agent. Residents simply download the Xfinity app and connect. When a resident moves out, the gateway is automatically reset and stays in place, ready for the next individual or family.

“Our new gateway transforms multifamily connectivity, elevating the resident experience. This advanced device delivers superior performance to support modern home ecosystems,” said Ilan Eframian, vice president of Xfinity Communities. “The ‘Instant On’ feature ensures seamless, secure Internet access, allowing residents to focus on settling in. Additionally, it empowers building owners to activate property-wide services and smart devices without extra hardware.”

The gateway is a key component of Xfinity Communities’ Connected Building solution that is designed to improve the way building owners can offer connectivity – both in unit and building-wide. Comcast said it is available at a price-point much lower than traditional managed WiFi solutions.

Comcast described the key features as follows:

Instant Connectivity: Residents can access WiFi immediately upon move-in by simply downloading the Xfinity app and following the digital activation process. Residents receive a private, in-unit network that they can customize by changing its name and password.

Building-wide Connectivity. Whether a unit is occupied or not, the new gateway remains active, broadcasting building-wide WiFi to power an IoT network for the property owner and roaming networks for residents, guests, and staff.

Easy installation. Our technicians can install the device in under 40 minutes per unit without rewiring or opening walls. The process is faster, far less disruptive, and cheaper than other solutions.

Advanced Technology: Equipped with Tri-Band WiFi 6E for faster speeds, lower latency, and reduced interference in highly-density living spaces.

Xfinity Security: All devices connected through the gateway over WiFi are automatically protected from cybersecurity threats.

Space-Efficient Design: The gateway is wall-mountable or cabinet-friendly, featuring a minimalist exterior that blends seamlessly into any environment.

Future-Ready: Supports multi-gig and increased device capacity, preparing properties for future technological advancements.

Eco-Friendly: The gateway’s casing is made from 65 percent recycled plastic, aligning with Comcast’s commitment to sustainability.

WiFi PowerBoost on Xfinity Mobile: Xfinity Internet customers who also subscribe to Xfinity Mobile can automatically receive gig-speed WiFi at home or at millions of WiFi hotspots across the country on Apple and select Samsung devices.

The gateway is equipped with a dedicated phone port and two Ethernet ports to support multi-gig speeds and increased capacity to accommodate the growing number of connected devices in each unit, now and in the future.

The announcing the product, Comcast reorted that the average home using Comcast’s powerful and secure WiFi has more than 20 connected devices with 94 percent of devices in the home connected to WiFi. All devices connected through the gateway are automatically protected from cybersecurity attacks, at no additional cost, with Xfinity Security.

The Multifamily Xfinity Broadband Gateway is available for deployment in multifamily properties nationwide.

With MediaConnect Gateway, customers can build end-to-end live video contribution and distribution workflows in AWS at scale, seamlessly integrating into their on-premises infrastructure.

AWS will demo the new service at Booth W1701 in the West Hall of the LVCC during the NAB Show in Las Vegas, April 16-19.

Typically, delivery of live-video multicast streams between datacenters and the cloud requires investment in specialized third-party hardware and software or resources to develop a custom solution. These solutions can be costly, complex, and difficult to support, and monitoring requires extensive knowledge and investment in vendor-specific tools. MediaConnect Gateway gives customers the ability to view, monitor, and control live video stream transport in on-premises datacenters directly from the AWS Management Console or by using the MediaConnect API.

“Hybrid use-cases are prominent in live video applications among our customers,” said Brian Stein, GM of AWS Elemental. “MediaConnect Gateway gives customers full control over deploying and monitoring their hybrid live video workflows, saving them valuable time and resources so they can instead focus on their core business.”

MediaConnect Gateway can be used primarily for contribution and distribution of live video. For video contribution workflows, a content provider can originate live linear channels on premises and send these feeds to partners around the globe, using MediaConnect Gateway as a bridge between their multicast, on-premises network infrastructure and the cloud. Each MediaConnect Gateway instance can subscribe to one or more multicast groups, where a group represents either a single channel or multiple channels multiplexed together in a multi-program transport stream (MPTS). Once subscribed, MediaConnect Gateway converts the network traffic to unicast, adds encryption, and sends the video to a MediaConnect flow in the cloud. Then a live streaming application is created using the feed, processing and delivering the video to end viewers using AWS Elemental MediaLive, AWS Elemental MediaPackage, and Amazon CloudFront, for example, or another software application.

For video distribution, customers can use MediaConnect Gateway to build sophisticated networks that span hundreds or even thousands of end points on premises. A broadcaster that sends 24/7 live linear content to hundreds of affiliates can use MediaConnect Gateway to seamlessly bridge their on-premises multicast network at both the source and destination locations. The result is a cloud-managed solution with improved operational agility and decreased cost compared to a satellite-based workflow, the company said.

MediaConnect Gateway runs inside Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) Anywhere, a service that allows customers to manage ECS containers on their servers. To get started, customers install the open-source ECS Agent on their VM or bare metal server. Once ECS Anywhere has been installed, customers can download MediaConnect Gateway as a software container. After that, all management of video feeds is handled in the AWS Management Console or using the MediaConnect API. When an on-premises multicast video feed is selected, the video signal is transported as unicast to the cloud using AWS Elemental MediaConnect, a service that combines the dependability of satellite and fiber-optic transport with the user-friendliness of IP-based networks.

Once in MediaConnect, the video can be sent to other AWS Regions, processed using AWS Media Services or other applications, shared with partners and affiliates, and delivered to other on-premises MediaConnect Gateway locations.
GRASS VALLEY, Calif.—AJA Video Systems has launched BRIDGE NDI 3G, high-performance 1RU appliance that enables reliable, high density, and high quality conversion to/from SDI and NewTek’s NDI video over IP protocol.

The flexible, intuitive gateway device supports multi-channel 4K and HD workflows and is designed to help broadcast, production and proAV professionals move seamlessly between various platforms, protocols, and connectivity types, AJA said.

“As IP’s advantages become more readily apparent, NDI is picking up steam across the broadcast, production and proAV markets,” said Nick Rashby, President, AJA Video Systems. “Going all-in on IP, however, isn’t a reality for facilities with significant SDI infrastructure, which is why we’ve created BRIDGE 3G NDI. Facilities can use BRIDGE NDI 3G to easily integrate a range of 3G-SDI sources into NDI workflows. It’s designed to help customers make the most out of their current gear while taking advantage of popular IP video advancements in the market.”

BRIDGE NDI 3G has dual 10GigE onboard NICs for NDI I/O, as well as high-density SDI connections for up to 16 channels of 3G-SDI I/O – offering up to four channels of 4K or 16-channels of HD, or a mixture of HD and 4K NDI encodes/decodes in a compact form-factor.

The device has an intuitive interface and system administration screen for quick configuration, the company said. Using a standard web browser, technicians, engineers, operators, and producers can access the interface remotely to view and manage content, including local monitoring preferences. BRIDGE NDI 3G can be used to convert SDI camera and playout sources into NDI streams, enabling simple integration into NDI supported workflows, including virtualized productions leveraging NDI-based switchers.

Using a common network, these sources can be located anywhere within a facility, allowing seamless integration of various production islands into a unified workflow.

Conversely, NDI streams can be converted back into SDI ecosystems via BRIDGE NDI 3G’s configurable I/O, allowing NDI signals to move back into SDI routing systems and traditional baseband workflows.

Device configuration and management are simple via a local interface, or remotely from a web browser interface or REST API, the company said.

The rack-mountable appliance supports UYVY and UYVA 4:2:2, 8-bit and P216, for NDI, and for SDI, YCbCr 4:2:2, 10-bit. It simplifies the integration of graphics and/or 4K sources into workflows with one-click grouping controls for video-and-key, and for 4K via 3G I/O. BRIDGE NDI 3G includes dual power supplies for redundancy.

For more information, visit: www.aja.com/products/bridge-ndi-3g.

WATERLOO, Ontario—Pitch 5 Productions' efforts to go remote to protect crew and clients during the pandemic has been supported by Dejero technology, including the company’s EnGo mobile transmitters and GateWay network aggregation for remote editing.

As part of COVID-safe protocols, Pitch 5 has opted to create a virtual video villages, which enable remote editing collaboration where clients could watch camera outputs from separate locations rather than a typical video village, where crowds often gather.

Using Dejero’s technology, Pitch 5 was able to connect the director, talent and creative teams in real time for the iHeartRadio’s series of “At Home Sessions” with musicians. This helped speed up the editing process as well, as footage was logged directly from the remove video village.

Pitch 5 Productions President Brian Gallagher praised EnGo for its ability to operate from its own cell signal for connectivity and stability on set, while the GateWay was critical in sending a signal directly to the editing team.

In addition to the EnGo and GateWay platforms, Dejero says that Pitch 5 utilized its Smart Blending Technology, helping to create reliable workflows by combining multiple network connections and manage fluctuating bandwidth, packet loss and latency issues.

“Dejero has helped keep not only our teams but our clients connected to the productions we’ve had all over the country,” said Pitch 5 Productions President Brian Gallagher. “The opportunities to work more effectively using this technology are limitless for us both now and in the future. All of our clients have been very happy with the entire process and we are too, as it has been spectacularly simplified.”

For more information, visit www.dejero.com.

PARISAND SAN JOSE, CALIF.—After years of wrangling with investors about the future of its set top business, Cisco has announced that it is selling the division to Technicolor for $600 million in stock and cash. The deal will make Paris-based Technicolor one of the world’s largest providers of set-top boxes (also referred to as “gateways” or “customer premises equipment”), with a market share of 15 percent.

Under the terms of the agreement, upon the closing of the transaction, Cisco will receive approximately €413 million ($450 million) in cash and approximately €137 million ($150 million) in newly issued Technicolor shares, subject to certain adjustments provided for in the agreement. The deal is expected to close by the end of the year or by the first quarter of 2016.

With this acquisition, Technicolor will be shipping more than 60 million devices annually, with an installed base of 290 million set-top boxes and 185 million gateways in more than 100 countries. It is expected to generate €3 billion (approx. $3.3 billion) of pro-forma revenues in 2014, doubling Technicolor’s revenues in the Connected Home segment. Technicolor and Cisco will form a “strategic partnership” to develop and deliver new devices that will extend the two company’s platforms into additional communications devices based on IoT (Internet of Things) technology.

“The strategic relevance of video to every consumer, business, city and country around the world is only growing, and the market is moving rapidly," said John Chambers, Chairman and CEO of Cisco. “This is the right time and we have the right company in Technicolor to drive the future of the CPE business to deliver what our customers and partners need, today and into the future. At Cisco, we are prioritizing our investments to deliver on our strategy of video in the cloud, and will partner with Technicolor to position the CPE business and employees for future success.”

Technicolor’s acquisition is the latest move in an industry that has seen new entrants come and go in recent years. The market has experienced a decrease in set-top box shipments amid growing interest in cord cutting and OTT services such as Apple TV and Roku, as well as a decline in pay-TV subscriptions worldwide. Ten years ago, Cisco entered the business with the acquisition of Scientific-Atlanta, but in recent years, investors and others have complained that the division was not a good fit with Cisco's core business. Three years ago, Google acquired Motorola’s set-top box business after buying Motorola Mobility Holdings. Shortly thereafter, it sold off the STB division to ARRIS Group for $2.35 billion. In May, ARRIS Group acquired European set-top box maker Pace for $2.1 billion, making it the largest provider of pay-TV boxes in the world.
