NEW YORK—The Broadcasters Foundation of America (BFOA) has announced that its next Media Mixer will be hosted by Curtis LeGeyt, President and CEO of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), with special guests NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell, one of the most highly respected journalists in broadcasting, and Joel Oxley, President and General Manager of Hubbard Radio’s WTOP, Washington DC.

The one-of-kind industry networking event is open to all in broadcasting at no charge and will be held at NAB headquarters, 1 M Street SE, Washington, DC, Thursday, Nov. 6, 4:30 to 7:00PM ET.

BFOA Media Mixers celebrate the camaraderie of the broadcasting community and bring to light the charitable mission of the BFOA to provide a lifeline to colleagues in acute need from illness or disaster.

NEW YORK—The Broadcasters Foundation of America has launched its annual year-end giving campaign, with an appeal for tax-deductible donations that will allow the Foundation to continue providing financial assistance to those in broadcasting who need it most. 

This year’s plea for donations follows a year-and-a-half of several cancelled fundraising events due to the COVID 19 pandemic that has also forced more broadcasters than ever to reach out for monthly or emergency relief.

The Broadcasters Foundation will award more than $1.8 million in monthly and one-time emergency grants in 2021, the group said. Monthly grants have increased 75% and more than 500 emergency grants have been awarded since 2017. Over the past 20 years, the Broadcasters Foundation has distributed more than $15 million to broadcasters in need.

A 501(c)3 charity, the Broadcasters Foundation is the only organization dedicated exclusively to delivering financial aid to broadcasters and their families whose lives have been upended by tragic illness, accident, or catastrophe. HIGH POINT, NC -– FOX8/WGHP, Tribune Broadcasting’s High Point, North Carolina station raised $122,563 after a 13-hour, in-studio telethon, Wednesday, Sept. 19 to aid victims impacted by Hurricane Florence.

Salvation Army volunteers, FOX8 staff members and numerous community leaders staffed the telethon, and the station asked its more than 775,000 Facebook fans to spread the message on social media.

All money pledged via the phone bank will be processed through the Salvation Army’s national headquarters and 100 percent of the funds raised will be used to deliver aid.
