TV Tech: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trends at the 2026 NAB Show?

Malik Khan: At NAB Show, a key focus will be the impact of ongoing C-band spectrum repurposing on media distribution. With U.S. federal auctions set to reallocate up to 180 MHz of spectrum for 5G by 2027, pressure on networks, broadcasters and rightsholders is intensifying, prompting them to reassess how they deliver high-value content at scale. This is accelerating conversations around shifting to alternative infrastructure that can provide the highest certainty around reliability, performance, visibility, and cost.

Live production, in particular sports production, is being reshaped by the need to scale efficiently while supporting more-tailored event creation and distribution. As sports leagues and rightsholders revisit longstanding delivery models in light of regulatory and commercial pressures, there is growing momentum behind workflows that allow content to be adapted for different audiences and platforms without increasing complexity and cost. This shift is driving greater alignment between production, localization, and distribution, with IP and cloud technologies playing a central role in enabling more flexible operations.

TVT: What will be your most important product news?

MK: Industry dynamics are accelerating the need for change, particularly as upcoming spectrum auctions place additional pressure on satellite capacity. In response, LTN is strengthening network reliability and performance, increasing the depth and transparency of content and network visibility, faster deployment with full-market reach, and improved economics to support high-value content delivery across a growing number of channels and platforms.

LTN is introducing enhancements to its global IP video network designed to support event and full-time channel distribution with 99.9999% reliability. These updates build on LTN’s industry-leading experience supporting large-scale deployments for networks, station groups, programmers, and sports broadcasters. In addition to the industry’s highest reliability guarantee, LTN’s innovation focuses on increasing full-market reach to 100% of legacy and digital platforms, further reducing migration time from satellite to IP distribution to a few weeks, increasing the visibility of the content and network for customers with detailed real-time and historical data, and offering improved economics for up to 60% reduction in cost of distribution.

New developments include expanded resiliency and monitoring capabilities, along with a network gateway capable of receiving up to 500 channels. This enables more efficient management of large channel lineups, while supporting faster deployment and broader distribution across both established and emerging environments.

TVT: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

MK: The key difference lies in how the infrastructure is designed and operated for live video at scale. Many solutions rely on public cloud services or protocol-based transport, which can introduce variability in performance, limited visibility, and unpredictable costs as workflows grow. LTN’s approach is built around a purpose-designed and managed IP video network that integrates transport, monitoring, and control within a single environment. This allows broadcasters to maintain consistent performance with clear insight into signal health across the full distribution chain.

Recent enhancements further strengthen this by enhanced 99.9999% SLA-backed availability for improved resiliency, expanding monitoring capabilities, and simplifying large-scale deployment. Combined with centralized orchestration and broader interoperability, this enables broadcasters to manage complex distribution workflows more efficiently while maintaining control over performance and operations.

TVT: What is it about NAB Show that brings you back every year?

MK: NAB Show remains one of the most important gatherings for the media and broadcast industry, offering a unique view into how technology and business priorities are evolving. It provides an opportunity to see new developments in context and understand how they are being applied in real-world environments.

For LTN, the event is also an opportunity to reconnect with existing partners and build new relationships. It brings together a wide range of perspectives, from broadcasters to technology providers, all focused on navigating the same industry shifts and identifying practical ways to move forward. Engaging with customers, partners, and industry peers creates space to share experiences, address common challenges, and explore new approaches to content production and distribution. LTN will showcase partners like MediaKind, Ateme, Synamedia, Harmonic, NCTC, ACA, Amagi, Appear, Lumen and Sencore at the booth.

TV Tech: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trends at the 2026 NAB Show?

Sam Peterson: AI will dominate the conversation again, but the real story isn’t AI itself. It’s whether it’s actually being operationalized. Over the past year, the gap between experimentation and real deployment has started to close, and that’s where the industry is finally seeing measurable impact.

What matters now is how AI is being applied behind the scenes, improving content discovery, accelerating production workflows and making growing media libraries usable at scale. That’s where the value is.

At the same time, hybrid cloud is no longer a strategy, it’s the baseline. Broadcasters have moved past the “cloud vs. on-prem” debate. The focus now is on how to integrate both in a way that delivers flexibility without compromising reliability.

We’re also seeing remote and distributed production fully mature. What started as a necessity is now a competitive advantage, allowing organizations to scale coverage, centralize resources, and respond faster to live events.

Ultimately, all of this is being driven by a simple reality: teams are being asked to produce more content with fewer resources. The companies that succeed will be the ones that turn automation and workflow efficiency into a core operating capability.

TVT: What will be your most important product news?

SP: The industry has reached a point where large-scale, disruptive migrations are no longer practical. Broadcasters can’t afford to pause operations or take on unnecessary risk just to modernize, so the focus has shifted to how you evolve without breaking what already works.

That’s exactly where we’re focused at NAB Show.

With Fusion Gateway, we’re introducing a cloud-based integration framework that connects systems, metadata, and workflows across both cloud and on-prem environments. It enables broadcasters to bring in new capabilities, integrate third-party technologies, and expand their infrastructure incrementally, without forcing a reset.

A good example of how that comes to life is our Core News Browse & Ingest Module. It allows news teams to browse approved third-party content sources and selectively ingest assets directly into their existing workflows. That content is immediately available inside Core News and Create, so editorial teams can use it without changing how they work.

What’s important here is that discovery and acquisition are being expanded without adding friction. And when paired with Fusion Gateway, broadcasters can securely connect to cloud-based content sources and exchange metadata seamlessly.

Alongside this, we’re continuing to advance Core News, Fusion Hybrid Storage, Fusion Insights and Central Control, all focused on improving efficiency, accelerating content discovery, and simplifying playout within a more unified, flexible workflow.

TVT: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

SP: For years, the industry has been told that transformation requires disruption, that adopting new technology means replacing what came before. We fundamentally disagree.

Most solutions in the market still approach content aggregation and ingest as a bulk process, pulling in large volumes of material and expecting teams to adapt their workflows around it. In practice, that often creates more noise than value.

Our approach is more deliberate. With the Core News Browse & Ingest Module, we’re putting control back in the hands of editorial teams. Users can browse approved third-party sources and selectively ingest only what’s relevant, bringing that content directly into Core News and Create without changing how the newsroom operates.

What makes this scalable is how it connects. When working with third-party cloud content sources, Fusion Gateway provides the secure connectivity and metadata exchange that makes that workflow possible across environments. That integration ensures content moves seamlessly while maintaining the integrity of existing systems.

More broadly, our focus is on integration over replacement. Broadcasters can evolve their workflows, expand their content ecosystem, and introduce new capabilities without being forced into a complete reset.

TVT: What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

SP: NAB Show remains one of the few places where you can cut through the noise and see what’s actually real in this industry.

There’s no shortage of new ideas or technologies, but what matters is what’s being deployed, what’s scaling and what’s delivering value. NAB creates a space where those distinctions become clear very quickly.

It’s also where the industry pressure points come into focus. You hear directly from broadcasters about what’s working, where they’re struggling and what they need next, and those conversations are often more valuable than anything happening on a stage.

But beyond that, it’s about relationships. This industry runs on collaboration and NAB brings together the people who are shaping what comes next. The most meaningful insights don’t come from presentations; they come from conversations that challenge assumptions and open the door to new ways of thinking.

TV Tech: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trends at the 2026 NAB Show?

Rene van Koll: At NAB Show, a defining theme will be the continued convergence of broadcast and streaming as part of a unified delivery ecosystem. The industry is now focused on delivering consistent, predictable performance across both linear and IP environments because audiences no longer distinguish between them.

Streaming infrastructures are becoming more adaptive, combining cloud-native architectures with the reliability associated with broadcast-level engineering. Expect to see more emphasis on multi-CDN strategies, hybrid deployments, AI-driven orchestration, and autonomous resilience—systems that anticipate failure and scale under live-event pressure and audience demand. At the same time, insight-driven monetization is advancing as OTT platforms apply increasingly granular viewer data to refine commercial strategies and improve revenue outcomes.

TV Tech: What will be Big Blue Marble’s most important product news?

RVK: Our most important product focus is the continued evolution of InsysGo as a resilient, large-scale broadcast-grade streaming platform designed for demanding live environments. InsysGo offers predictable performance under real-world event conditions, whether that’s high concurrency sports or multi-region distribution.

We are also strengthening our broader content protection portfolio across DRM, forensic watermarking, concurrent access protection, and token authentication. Watermarking in particular is playing an increasingly important role in revenue security and content traceability, especially as content owners demand stronger safeguards against redistribution and credential abuse.

Alongside this, our Cloud Video Kit continues to evolve as a modular toolkit supporting processing, packaging, delivery, and playback. These solutions are supported by Big Blue Marble’s Professional Services team, ensuring these systems are deployed and operated effectively in complex live environments.

TV Tech: How is your product different from what’s available on the market?

RVK: What differentiates our approach is the combination of broadcast-grade DNA with cloud-native delivery and direct experience of how consumers actually engage with content, which ensures reliability and quality are built in from the outset. Processing and content protection capabilities are integrated within a unified framework, enabling consistent performance and minimizing failure points across the delivery chain.

Equally important is our operational expertise and long-term partnership model. Through Professional Services, we work alongside customers to define failover strategies and implement monitoring that reflects high-demand live environments. That combination and overall operational discipline are what enables consistent performance at scale.

TV Tech: What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

RVK: NAB Show remains an essential meeting ground for meaningful conversations with customers and partners about current deployments and future strategy. It’s where the latest innovations and industry trends are visible in real time, providing a clear sense of where the market is heading. The show also provides a valuable perspective on how the industry’s business models and delivery strategies are evolving in response to changing audience behavior, and how technology is shaping what comes next.

TV Tech: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trends at the 2026 NAB Show?

Mo Goyal: The biggest trend this year is simple: How do you create more value from a single live event?

Content owners are under pressure to produce more diverse content, deliver personalized feeds across multiple platforms, and maximize monetization—all at the same time. Audiences still want the “big game” experience, but they also expect something tailored to them—whether they’re in the stadium, at a watch party, at home or following along with a favorite creator online.

And personalization is going far beyond highlights. Fans want control—choosing camera angles, following specific players or diving deeper into moments that matter to them. Ultimately, it’s about telling more stories from the same event.

That creates real challenges. Traditional production workflows weren’t built for this level of scale and flexibility, and balancing innovation with cost is critical. What we’re seeing now is a shift toward rethinking the entire workflow—from camera to screen—with smarter, more efficient tools that make this level of personalization achievable.

TVT: What will be your most important product news?

MG: At NAB Show, our focus is on unifying our technologies to help customers solve these challenges end to end.

We’re showcasing how ENX, BRAVO Studio and evertz.io STREAM come together as a single production ecosystem. ENX provides a high-performance IP fabric to move live signals seamlessly. BRAVO Studio enables producers to turn one event into multiple tailored productions. And evertz.io STREAM extends that capability into the cloud for scalable distribution and personalization.

Together, this allows content creators to deliver viewer-specific experiences from a single live source—maximizing engagement, reach and revenue across every platform.

For the U.S. market specifically, the upcoming C-band transition is another major driver of change. Broadcasters will need to rethink traditional satellite-based distribution. We’re addressing that with XPS, Reflektor, and evertz.io XChange—a fully IP and cloud-based alternative that delivers secure, scalable, low-latency transport over managed networks and the public cloud.

This approach not only reduces reliance on satellite infrastructure but also opens up new opportunities like dynamic market switching and more flexible monetization models—turning a regulatory shift into a modernization opportunity.

TV Tech: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

MG: For us, it really comes down to unification.

Evertz has long been known for its leadership in hardware and IP infrastructure—from switching fabrics to edge devices to timing. At the same time, we’ve been at the forefront of cloud playout, helping customers adopt both full cloud and hybrid models.

What’s unique is that we bring these worlds together. We span content creation, distribution, and monetization within a single ecosystem, allowing customers to rethink their entire workflow and deploy faster.

That said, this isn’t a closed system. We know no single vendor has every piece. That’s why we’ve built our platform on open standards like SMPTE ST 2110, NMOS, SRT, and RIST. This gives customers a strong, flexible foundation that integrates easily with best-of-breed partner solutions.

TVT: What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

MG: This will be my 20th NAB Show, and it still doesn’t disappoint.

It’s one of the few places where the entire industry—customers, partners and vendors—comes together to solve real challenges. Some are small and practical, others require completely new approaches, but the collaboration is what makes it special.

And honestly, it’s also where ideas turn into reality. You see where the industry is going, but more importantly, you see how to get there.

TV Tech: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trends at the 2026 NAB Show?

CJ Prober: The broadcast industry is in the midst of the transition from traditional SDI infrastructures to IP-based workflows. We’ve moved from the early-adopter phase of IP infrastructure into the early-majority phase, where the focus shifts from experimentation to operational reality. IP is now proven, reliable and delivering a clear ROI.

Most facilities today are operating in hybrid environments where SMPTE ST 2110 systems coexist with legacy SDI equipment. This creates complex operational environments where deterministic broadcast timing requirements meet enterprise IT security policies, and where broadcast engineers must collaborate with networking professionals who may not fully understand the precision requirements of live production.

I expect conversations at the 2026 NAB Show to focus on how to bring IP fully into mainstream operations and how organizations can navigate this transition in practical terms. The benefits of IP are well understood at this point, and now the challenge is how to deploy IP infrastructure that meets broadcast-grade timing and reliability requirements while also being manageable by real teams under real-world conditions. Remote production, cloud contribution, and distributed workflows add another level of complexity. The pieces are all in place, and the industry is now focused on closing the gap between specification and operational reality.

TVT: What will be your most important product news?

CP: In keeping with the theme of making the transition to IP practical, the NETGEAR Engage Controller, unlike anything else available on the market, greatly simplifies network provisioning. Engage provides a centralized software platform that automatically discovers NETGEAR switches, applies validated configuration profiles, and enables real-time monitoring across the entire network. This allows engineering teams to deploy high-performance IP networks faster and with minimal manual configuration steps.

The latest update to Engage Controller 2.4 introduces offline provisioning. Entire network topologies can now be configured using virtual switches and access points to design complete systems without having the physical hardware on-site. Teams can arrive on-site with the network already configured and ready to deploy. For multi-site operations or facilities with tight commissioning windows, the deployment is significantly simplified.

TVT: What is it about NAB Show that brings you back every year?

CP: What makes NAB Show uniquely valuable to us is the quality and depth of the conversations we have there. NAB Show brings together broadcast engineers who understand signal integrity, timing precision and the operational realities of live production in ways that don't exist anywhere else. You can’t build products for this industry without understanding those requirements with real-world detail.

We come to NAB Show not just to demonstrate, but to listen. The offline provisioning feature of the Engage Controller, for example, was inspired by conversations with customers managing multiple remote production deployments who needed a way to preconfigure sites before hardware arrived.

NAB is also where we get to see industry convergence happening in real-time—broadcast facilities adopting IT infrastructure practices, Pro AV workflows integrating broadcast-grade quality standards and everyone navigating the shared challenge of deploying IP at scale. That intersection is where the most important and interesting engineering challenges are being addressed.

TV Tech: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trends at the 2026 NAB Show?

Matthew Williams-Neale: The most significant trend at NAB Show will be the continued shift toward hybrid live production, driven by customers looking for more flexible ways to scale live events while managing cost and complexity. Broadcasters, sports organizations and rights holders increasingly want workflows where linear IP video and cloud-based processing operate within the same production environment. Standards and protocols such as SMPTE ST 2110 and SRT, alongside frameworks like DMF and MXL, are helping define shared models for timing, control and interoperability across distributed infrastructures.

REMI and distributed production are gaining traction, demanding precise timing, synchronization and reliability across AVC/HEVC and ultra-low-latency JPEG XS workflows. Customers are prioritizing dense, power-efficient platforms that can support both large-scale global productions and smaller remote events. These architectures are now firmly established in major live environments, including NBC Sports’ coverage of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics and Paralympics, where Appear’s X Platform supported its contribution and distribution workflows.

TV Tech: What will be your most important product news?

MNW: The Appear X Platform underpins many of these environments, supporting high-density video compression, transport and processing for live production. It is widely used for contribution, production, and distribution across sports and major live events. The X Platform was also recently verified by YouTube for SRT live streaming, allowing broadcasters and rights holders to deliver resilient, professional-grade live content directly to YouTube Live.

We will also showcase X5, the compact addition to the X family which is now commercially available. It delivers low-latency AVC and HEVC encoding and decoding with hardware-accelerated SRT in a highly efficient form factor suited to remote production and right-sized live events. In addition, we will demonstrate the VX Media Gateway, a cloud-ready software platform that complements the X Platform by extending these workflows into cloud and datacenter environments. VX operates as an API-driven distributed media gateway, enabling resilient media transport and processing across both on-prem infrastructure and cloud resources.

TVT: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

Our approach starts with customer workflows rather than individual products. Customers are increasingly moving from traditional satellite to IP contribution, expanding remote production models and exploring hybrid processing across cloud and on-prem infrastructure. In many cases, this involves replacing IRD-heavy, RF-routed satellite distribution with centralized satellite-to-IP architectures that reduce infrastructure footprint, simplify operations and create a more flexible path to cloud and multi-site contribution. Our goal is to provide a platform that supports those transitions without increasing operational complexity.

The X Platform provides the density and processing performance required for high-volume live production environments, while X5 extends those capabilities into smaller and more distributed deployments. For example, World Archery used the X Platform to bring production in-house, deploying an X20 chassis with SRT, decoding and network management to build a fully IP-based workflow that improved the quality and consistency of its live streams while giving the federation direct control over delivery. VX complements this by introducing a flexible software layer that enables media transport and processing across hybrid infrastructures. Combined with the deterministic performance of the X Platform, it allows broadcasters to run resilient live workflows from venue to network operations center to cloud production.

TVT: What is it about NAB Show that brings you back every year?

NAB Show provides an opportunity to engage directly with customers and partners who are actively building and evolving hybrid production environments, whether that means shifting from satellite to IP, expanding remote production models or exploring hybrid processing workflows. Listening to these requirements is central to how we develop our technology, and conversations at NAB Show support initiatives such as Appear’s customer councils, which help inform our priorities and strategic roadmap.

The show also offers a useful view of where the wider industry is heading. For Appear, it’s a chance to share what we are seeing across our customer base and to demonstrate how these production approaches are already working in real deployments across sports, broadcasters and content owners.

TV Tech: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trends at the 2026 NAB Show?

Jan Eveleens: We’re going to see the industry continue moving toward software-based and cloud-ready solutions, whether that means on-prem deployments or public cloud. And of course, AI will be everywhere. A lot of what’s promoted as “AI-powered” will still be more hype than real substance, but there will be meaningful applications emerging, especially where automation can remove friction or simplify workflows.

TVT: What will be your most important product news?

JE: We’re bringing a lot of exciting new innovations across audio, video, and control. For the first time at NAB, we’re introducing hi human interface, a powerful, vendor-agnostic control system designed for both broadcast and AV environments.

We’re also expanding our Bolero wireless intercom family with Bolero Mini, a compact, lightweight option that delivers the same reliable performance that users expect.

On the video side, we’re unveiling a powerful, native, low-latency ST 2110 multiviewer as part of our successful MediorNet lineup. And for our SmartPanels, we’re showcasing an advanced and innovative commentary app built for our new DSP-1216HL Desktop SmartPanel.

TVT: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

JE: At Riedel, we put innovation and quality at the center of everything we build. Every product we bring to the market has been designed to be a bit “different”—for us, that means helping customers do their work better, faster, and more efficiently.

Multifunctionality is one of our hallmarks, and we match that with long-term durability. Robustness, reliability and longevity are our main priorities. Our goal is to give customers the type of technology that not only performs exceptionally well but also lowers total cost of ownership over the long run.

TVT: What is it about NAB Show that brings you back every year?

JE: Riedel has experienced tremendous growth in the Americas over the past few years, and we’re aiming even higher in the years ahead. NAB Show is where important conversations happen; it’s our chance to truly connect with customers, partners, and the broader industry. Showing up in a big way each year helps us support our growing footprint and stay close to the people who rely on our solutions.

TV Tech: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trends at the 2026 NAB Show?

Steph Lone: I expect we’ll continue to see AI reshape the media and entertainment industry in nearly all regards. Just as cloud-based approaches and IP networking standards have created more flexibility across the content chain, AI can supercharge those gains when used responsibly and effectively. Agentic AI in particular stands to transform workflows by automating and accelerating multi-step processes, such as metadata extraction, localization, captioning, summary generation, and formatting, among others.

TVT: What will be your most important product news?

SL: Among the many services and solutions that Amazon Web Services (AWS) will be highlighting at NAB Show, we’ll be showcasing AWS Elemental Inference, the industry’s first fully-managed service that applies AI in parallel with encoding of live video that released in February. It represents an important milestone in pioneering the next generation of entertainment and reaching audiences where they are—on their phones, and without needing AI expertise to implement.

TVT: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

SL: Gen-Z viewers consume 88% of streaming content on smartphones and discover most content on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. However, until now, vertical video production has required a dedicated team and producing 16:9 video from live feeds has been a massive pain point. AWS Elemental Inference enables broadcasters and streamers to shift to mobile-first, AI-powered distribution. It uses AI to automatically detect the action in a live video feed and optimizes it for vertical viewing in 6-10 seconds. Customers like NBCUniversal and Fox Sports Digital, which reports 90% of its digital content is viewed vertically, are already using it with great results.

TVT: What is it about NAB Show that brings you back every year?

SL: NAB Show provides a unique opportunity to connect with customers, partners, colleagues and friends while also learning about the latest trends and advancements influencing our industry. The scope of the event is so expansive. I always find myself learning something new and leave inspired. It’s also great to meet so many collaborators face to face, plan for what’s next and even find a little time to celebrate our collective achievements.

TV Tech: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trends at the 2025 NAB Show?

Ken Frommert: AI continues to be the topic that permeates many areas of the broadcast landscape with technologies that are designed to elevate storytelling, improve workflow efficiency and unlock new opportunities for generating revenue. ENCO has been on the leading edge of the movement that has made AI a valuable and increasingly prevalent tool set for TV and radio broadcasters everywhere and we will be showcasing that once again at this year’s show. From leveraging AI and machine learning within our live captioning and translation products to using generative AI for creating dynamic localized and personalized content, ENCO is demonstrating how these innovations can transform audience engagement, enhance accessibility and streamline content delivery in real-time broadcasting environments. I look forward to seeing how others are utilizing AI and how their innovations are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in content creation, distribution, and audience interaction across the broadcast industry.

TVT: What will be your most important product news?

KF: The television side of our business will be represented through our captioning, translation and virtual production systems. We will once again present our Qimera virtual production stage on our booth, which can be found in the West Hall at W1743. There is no question that our enCaption and enTranslate brands will bring the biggest news this year. On the enCaption side, we will introduce dynamic speaker identification capabilities powered through a new AI voice fingerprinting feature. It’s a truly novel function applied to the captioning workflow as a single-stream audio mix that dynamically inserts the name of the speaker as each is identified. These speaker identifications also pass through to translations, powered through our enTranslate solution.

Last year, we introduced the ability to produce Spanish translations on-prem. This year, we will showcase enTranslate’s ability to now translate dozens of languages live either on-prem or in the cloud. We will also introduce enTranslate Mobile, which provides a mobile-friendly alternative to erecting large translation screens for live group events while giving audiences a way to follow along on their personal devices in their language of choice.

At NAB, our enCaption systems will provide accurate, real-time captions on stage-adjacent displays for the fourth straight year. These will happen on five NAB stages across the South and West Halls. For the first time, ENCO will also offer real-time translations directly to mobile devices through its enTranslate Mobile platform. Attendees can simply scan the displayed QR codes to access a mobile site, where they can select from languages including English, Spanish, French, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese and German. As panels and presentations unfold, users can follow along with live translations right from their mobile devices for a more accessible and inclusive experience.

TVT: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

KF: What sets us apart is our ongoing cycle of innovation. While AI has long been a core part of our enCaption platform, ENCO, along with our partners at Benztown and Compass Media Networks, pushed the boundaries even further last year by introducing generative AI into radio advertising. The result was SPECai, a transformative solution that helps radio broadcasters create and sell ads more efficiently. Now live at over 1,000 stations, SPECai exemplifies how ENCO uses forward-thinking technology to deliver real value while redefining what’s possible. That same innovative mindset drives our captioning and translation tools, where features like dynamic speaker identification and on-premise translations set us apart in the market.

TVT: What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

KF: At the heart of it all is the opportunity to connect with our customers and partners. NAB provides the perfect setting for meaningful, face-to-face conversations where we can truly listen, understand their priorities, and align our solutions with their evolving needs. More often than not, we already have tools that can help move their vision forward. But what’s even more exciting is how these discussions often ignite fresh ideas — ideas that lead to the next wave of innovation for our customers. A walk around the show floor reveals these moments unfolding everywhere, and it’s something we look forward to every year.

TV Tech: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trends at the 2025 NAB Show?

Hiroto Kato: Significant technology trends we expect to see at NAB Show this year include new remote production solutions and a need to uplevel and differentiate broadcast content for audiences — making it more captivating, immersive and surprising. Sports broadcasts are major cultural events and are only growing in influence, and we’re happy to provide customers with tools and solutions that allow them to capture world-stopping images and video.

We expect to see an influx of virtual production products and solutions on display at NAB Show this year. The growing use of virtual production tech in a variety of use cases, from cinema, broadcast, commercial and more, will make it a focal point for many exhibitors and attendees at the show. Another trend that NAB Show has smartly picked up on is the continued growth of professional creators, many of whom are essentially running their own media companies and networks with professional-grade gear. Lastly, there is a blending of gear and solutions across verticals, such as cinema bleeding into sports broadcasters and league content, pro A/V gear and solutions being leveraged by broadcasters and vice versa, and more. Lines are becoming more blurred, and we see a lot of opportunity and innovation in these cross sections.

TVT: What will be your most important product news?

HK: The demand for captivating shots that really make the subject pop with a shallow depth of field is on the rise in sports and live production. To meet this growing demand, we’re excited to introduce a new solution that helps fulfill this demand.

At NAB Show, Canon will showcase its new optical unit designed to help create stunning footage with shallow depth of field in sports broadcasts and other live productions. The new optical unit can be integrated into UHD-DIGISUPER 122 and UHD-DIGISUPER 111 field box lenses by Canon Service. These lenses, in combination with the new optical unit, provide high-magnification zoom and video expression to ease the focus and enhance the subject even in fast aperture.

Whether working in a fast-paced sports stadium or capturing special moments, the optical unit adds more flexibility and helps create unforgettable visuals. We think shooters and audiences alike will love the results of this solution.

TVT: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

HK: Our new optical unit stands out by offering a solution that’s been tested and proven in the sports and live production fields, delivering the impressive, story-driven content that broadcasters and viewers are craving. It recently made its mark at major marquee sporting events and concerts including major football, baseball, basketball, hockey and auto racing.

What makes it truly unique is the combination of high-magnification zoom and enhanced video expression, with easy focusing capabilities even in fast-paced environments. This optical unit integrates seamlessly into Canon’s existing UHD-DIGISUPER 122 and UHD-DIGISUPER 111 field zoom lenses, meaning there is no need to invest in new cameras or equipment to leverage this solution. It also maintains consistent color tones, allowing easy switching between traditional and enhanced imaging styles and 2x extender, all from one lens. The optical unit is the perfect balance of performance, flexibility and ease of use for anyone looking to capture high-quality, breathtaking visuals.

TVT: What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

HK: We look forward to NAB Show every year — it’s an invaluable destination for us to meet face-to-face with Canon customers and industry professionals and learn more about their work, ideas and needs. This year, NAB Show attendees can expect to see exciting new products that continue our legacy of marrying efficiency, best-in-class imaging and ease of use. Beyond showcasing our broadcast and cinema solutions, offering opportunities for education and learning is fundamental to our mission at NAB Show. We look forward to seeing you at our new booth location, N2103.

Broadcasters need to break free from satellite restraints and expand their channel distribution with managed control, high visibility and global reach — particularly given recent U.S. regulations and the potential acceleration of spectrum shifts. For major networks, replicating this type of large-scale channel distribution and rights management systems in an IP-based environment has never been more critical. Customers want advanced, cost-effective IP network solutions that automate complex tasks, streamline content management, ensure compliance, and enable new monetization opportunities for linear channels on digital platforms.

The ability to customize and version content in real-time is an exciting breakthrough for sports organizations and rights holders. Today, fast-growing sports leagues and organizations can access the same advanced content versioning, language customization, graphics and multiplatform distribution tools as the largest leagues. With new private-equity activity driving increased technology investment and global growth ambition, we’ll hear a lot more about multi-partner international rights deals, multi-version distribution, and multi-language live sports experiences, powered by technology that is becoming much more accessible for leagues and federations of all sizes.

TV Tech: What will be your most important product news?

RY: It’s a big one for us — we’re coming to NAB Show with a reinvigorated focus on revenue enablement for sports and media businesses. We’re launching new dynamic features of real-time content versioning technologies for major broadcasters, sports leagues and streaming platforms. Simplified, scalable, reliable solutions that are designed to drive media profitability and increase global reach, all within the world’s only IP network built exclusively for video.

TVT: What can booth visitors expect?

RY: Channel Distribution — New ways to simplify and expand channel distribution across traditional and digital platforms with greater control and efficiency.

Live Sports — Seamless access to technologies tailored for sports leagues and organizations, maximizing rights value by delivering customized feeds to new digital platforms and partners.

FAST Channels — Automated solutions elevating the FAST channel value proposition by delivering more compelling live sports and news experiences. That’s the type of content that keeps viewers coming back and boosts ad value.

TVT: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

RY: Let’s start at the network — it’s at the core of all our solutions. We own, manage and operate technology on our global multicast IP network that delivers premier live video with 99.9999% reliability and < 25 ms latency. LTN’s is the world’s only network built exclusively for video to acquire, customize, monetize and distribute content at scale. It’s strategically deployed in top global data centers with Tier 1 ISP infrastructure to avoid transit bottlenecks and packet loss that cause latency. This unique blend of flexibility, reliability, and cost-efficiency outperforms less refined, protocol-only IP solutions. Our tailored IP workflows enable customers to minimize cloud processing costs and reduce ingress/egress charges while effortlessly integrating modular services and third-party solutions as required.

We leverage our optimized network infrastructure and intelligent automation to power more efficient and scalable distribution solutions than most vendors. LTN will showcase cost-efficient live event versioning technology that seamlessly integrates advanced language customization, dynamic graphics, master control, and localized ad enablement. Our new custom solutions reflect a reinvigorated focus on revenue enablement for sports and media companies of all sizes. Content providers require fast, efficient ways to launch FAST channels, cutting time to market and boosting revenue. Sports leagues need cost-effective solutions to produce content once and reach unlimited rights buyers and digital audiences. LTN can be the single source, delivering this suite of unique technologies.

TVT: What is it about NAB Show that brings you back every year?

RY: Experiencing the latest technology innovation, customer meetings, partner conversations, panel discussions — and plenty of ‘aha’ moments. You can’t replicate that level of exposure and knowledge-sharing anywhere else. As a regular panel speaker, I enjoy reconnecting with peers and customers, discussing shared challenges, and exploring new ways to improve media technology for broadcasters, sports leagues, and their audiences. At events like NAB Show, we cultivate lasting relationships, and we’re excited to meet many new faces this year.

TV Tech: What do you anticipate to be the most significant technology trends at the 2025 NAB Show?

Chris Scheck: One important trend no doubt is the migration towards hardware-agnostic processing on COTS servers and in the public cloud. The CPU and GPU technology employed for this is evolving at such a staggering pace that building one’s own proprietary hardware simply no longer makes sense. Lawo prefers to stand on the shoulders of giants in this respect. This trend is already accelerating the virtualization of live production workflows, with more and more processes providing more creative and flexible options than the hardware from which the original concepts may have been derived. The new implementation options are so diverse, however, that simply lifting and shifting existing approaches would cause users to miss out on the most interesting bits, hence the importance of a future-oriented microservice approach.

AI will probably be announced or claimed by many in one way or another. It certainly deserves the industry’s full attention. But so does AR for production, and that is being addressed by Lawo Workspaces.

TVT: What will be your most important product news?

CS: Lawo’s most important product news will be HOME Apps with an integrated “Workspace” user interface, under the “do more with less anywhere” motto. Built for specific tasks, Workspace UIs run in the HTML5 browser on your laptop, tablet, phone and your AR headset, for untethered yet perfectly secure pro-grade operation. Each UI controls a full-time HOME App running on a COTS server somewhere in the world, with minimal latency and robust security. The HOME Commentary app is downright spectacular: it is a virtual, broadcast-grade commentary station for off-tube and in-venue jobs. In its simplest form, it can be operated with a USB-C microphone and a pair of headphones for world-class storytelling.

Two additional HOME Apps with Workspace UIs will also be on display: HOME Video Monitor, which delivers low-latency video monitoring for busy broadcast/AV professionals; and HOME mc² crystal Controller, which acts as the missing link for high-end audio mixing scenarios involving crystal consoles.

The new HOME Power Core app, for its part, leverages the agility of Lawo’s HOME Apps platform to provide instant processing, mixing, routing and monitoring for radio and TV workflows. Derived from Lawo’s physical Power Core unit, this app allows users to choose among a compact, a large, and an XL instance to make optimal use of the available CPU power.

TVT: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

CS: HOME Apps with a Lawo Workspace add a new dimension to how HOME Apps can be used to contribute to the content creation chain. While more such apps are already in the pipeline, the HOME Commentary app makes it easy for commentators and sports celebrities to contribute to the live coverage of events from their homes, their holiday resorts, etc. This was already possible, but it used to require quite some hardware that had to be configured beforehand.

All new HOME Apps are, of course, members of Lawo’s unified, open platform whose core mission is to provide content creators with at least one workflow—usually multiple workflows—for each building block along the storytelling journey. As more functionality is delivered via servers, operators benefit from more flexibility and agility, as well as the convenience of shrinking data centers.

TVT: What is it about NAB Show that brings you back every year?

CS: NAB Show is one of the main trade shows in North America. It is where the industry introduces new products and where new projects and cooperations are discussed and signed. No industry pro can afford to miss NAB Show.

Traditional multi-viewers can only provide static or predefined layouts. Emerald DESKVUE gives you the opportunity to size, resize, and drag your sources (or “tiles”) across the different connected monitors, streamlining workflow and optimizing efficiency. DESKVUE is a part of the Emerald Eco-system and integrates with our IP KVM platform further providing flexibility to access and control both virtual and physical machines across the network.

TVT: What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

DI: There’s so much to see and do at the NAB Show! Apart from advancements in technology, product showcases, and speaking with industry leaders, the show really gives us a chance to find out not only the current state of the industry, but where its going. This year will be exceptional, and I know we will learn a lot more about AI and its impact on the broadcast industry.

TV Tech: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trends at the 2025 NAB Show?

David Edwards: We are seeing broadcasters and streaming platform operators wanting to enhance their live events programming as a big driver to increase viewers and revenues. The record viewing figures for the Super Bowl of 127.7 million U.S. viewers across the board are a prime example of that.

Broadcasters, sports leagues and streaming platforms are looking to provide an enhanced experience to their customers—with more engaging, visceral and immersive viewing experiences on premium events and a broader range of content coming from televising previously untapped lower-tier events. These additional events and services are being made possible by increased use of technology that leverages the power of the unmanaged internet to carry more feeds and content at an affordable cost.

The near-ubiquitous availability and attractively low costs of internet connectivity makes solutions that enable and manage use of this connectivity a growing need and a must-have tool for the broadcast community. Net Insight is experiencing an increasing demand for our end-to-end solutions that enable broadcasters and production organizations to build and manage dynamic networks built around internet connectivity, leveraging ARQ techniques such as SRT and RIST—and allow live video to ingress and egress these networks.

We are seeing increasing demand from the broadcast industry wanting to achieve more with these dynamic networks, to have greater flexibility in providing tailored services through the ability to provide video processing and format conversion provision.

TVT: What will be your most important product news?

DE: The big news from us will be the culmination of a number of product developments that work together seamlessly. Net Insight now has a complete video network solution that leverages internet connectivity – From physical edge devices that ingress or egress raw video through to a network management solution that can configure, route and monitor content across internet connectivity.

The Net Insight Nimbra Edge solution now has the ability to transform the format of any video content—to transcode it, transrate it and add overlays. Operators will have the ability to deploy a complete end-to-end networking solution by closely coupling the video networking with video-centric nodes to ingress and egress video feeds and making big technical leaps forward with these devices.

Net Insight’s Nimbra 400 has been enhanced to provide channel-dense, highest quality HEVC 4:2:2 10-bit compression allowing operators to build out bandwidth efficient bi-directional video networks. When addressing smaller installations, or where affordability is critical, Net Insight is launching the smaller Nimbra 204 edge device. Still with the same high quality, low latency compression capability. These Broadcasters and network operators now have the ability to deploy the right solutions whatever the required scale.

TVT: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

DE: The Net Insight Nimbra Edge solution brings together top-flight networking, video processing and video-centric edge devices together in one closely coupled solution. Through all components being integrated together, a network can be built, monitored and dynamically controlled from ingress to egress with ease and confidence.

Our solution is unique by allowing hybrid deployments across Cloud and COTS processing — allowing operators to scale efficiently while optimizing costs and flex without complexity as needs evolve. By deploying processing capabilities at the network edge, Nimbra Edge enhances service reliability, even for users with marginal connections.

But perhaps the greatest strength of the solution is the choice and flexibility of the video nodes that can be deployed at the network edge. With the use of low-cost internet connectivity enabling the drive to provide richer and greater breadth of content, the demands for higher quality video are increasing. Net Insight’s Nimbra 204 and Nimbra 400 are designed to deliver highest quality video from any location.

TVT: What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

DE: NAB Show is an event that is unmatched in scale. The global media industry converges on Las Vegas to showcase and experience the advances in the industry.

It is a place to meet, to discuss ideas, to learn, and be surprised.

But what NAB Show consistently demonstrates is a pace of change—and willingness in the industry to respond to the challenges of a media world in constant flux.

Over the years that I have experienced NAB, moments of revolution have been rare but every year you find something new, something exciting, perhaps tucked away on a single booth. The next year the impact of that excitement has created a new evolution and rippled out across multiple booths. Change has taken root; a problem has been solved for the better and the world is different again. That is something you will find nowhere else.

TV Tech: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trends at the 2025 NAB Show?
Sid Stanley: Media consumption is constantly shifting, and broadcasters face increasing competition for subscribers as well as reductions in advertising revenue. With on-demand and social content gaining more ground in the battle for viewers, broadcasters need ways to create more content with the same resources.

The days of fixed processing infrastructures are over, and broadcasters are building in robust connectivity and flexibility to allow them to scale up or down production resources and flex their requirements in more cost-effective ways. This allows them to not only cover more content, but more niche events and distributed production models that can quickly combine on-prem, on-edge and cloud resources with minimal or no additional investment. This will be a major theme at NAB.

Meanwhile, delivering control to all this new content is just as important, and Next Generation Audio (NGA) output configurations like personalization are already adding value for viewers. Having a range of distributed control interfaces that can be located anywhere, or tied into automation software to simplify workflows, will also be big news at the show. Distributed production has undoubtedly encouraged a spike in direct-to-consumer (DTC) and OTT content, but audio quality is still paramount and broadcasters still need to consider all the output configurations.

TVT: What will be your most important product news?
SS: Calrec is expanding the company’s product ecosystem across three new product ranges and is introducing a suite of new interconnected products and updates to help broadcasters meet a variety of challenges.

Connecting Calrec’s entire IP range to facilitate distributed production across multiple products, True Control 2.0 is a second-generation remote production technology that can control any system from anywhere. It provides access to more cores, more faders, more surfaces and more control from any location, and at NAB we’re adding Apollo+ and Artemis+ into the True Control 2.0 family. By expanding the number of products it works with, True Control 2.0 gives broadcasters unparalleled flexibility to scale as their production demands grow and shrink. It is compatible with Argo M, Calrec’s latest compact IP broadcast audio console with built-in DSP and I/O and GPIO, and users can add additional external DSP paths with ImPulse, ImPulse1 and ImPulseV.

Calrec is debuting an aux booster upgrade path to provide extra bussing on the ImPulse and ImPulse1 DSP cores, as well as on all three Argo consoles. We’re also packing in more functionality across the entire Argo platform with MIDI to support DAW control.

Calrec’s Type R mixing system is also upgraded, providing access to new features including off-air record, enhanced GPIO talkback, monitor selector follow, mix minus bus user labels and a large DSP pack with 32 aux buses.

Finally, Calrec is showing the ImPulseV cloud-based audio mixing solution, which delivers premium audio quality alongside Calrec’s full broadcast feature set.

TVT: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?
SS: Connectivity is everything, and for the first time Calrec’s full range of IP-native products can seamlessly connect wherever they are, taking remote and distributed productions to new levels.

True Control 2.0 delivers expanded levels of control in two key areas. Firstly, it gives users far greater levels of remote control without the limitations of mirroring or parallel controlling, with control of an expanded feature set including EQ, dynamics, routing, direct outputs and delay. More fundamentally, it gives broadcasters and content providers the ability to scale their productions with workflow combinations that allow them to increase content output at the same time as reducing costs.

It also works seamlessly with Calrec’s ImpulseV cloud-based DSP software, which had its development preview at NAB Show in 2024, to provide a virtualized mixing engine in a cloud-native AWS environment. Accessed from anywhere in the world, it can be controlled through Calrec’s Assist web UI on a standard browser, or from any True Control 2.0 enabled console.

This new ecosystem and comprehensive suite of products empowers broadcasters to flex resources to meet the demands of large broadcast events with a mix of capex and economical opex models. It enables content providers to deliver a wider range of events which may not previously have been economically viable.

TVT: What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?
SS: We’ve attended the NAB show every year since the 1990s, and it has always given us an opportunity to reconnect with a wide range of partners, from end users, customers, operators, engineers, and network designers to system integrators and fellow manufacturers. For us this is fundamental; Calrec’s broad range of products aims to meet all our customers’ needs and NAB Show is the best international event to give us face-to-face access with everyone in the broadcast chain. The feedback we get from NAB is invaluable and it all feeds back directly into our extensive R&D teams. In fact, it’s why we always have product development teams on the floor at every show.

Our whole industry demographic is changing and what NAB does really well is showcase the evolving broadcast landscape. It does this by delivering a broad depth of content that we, as exhibitors, get immense value from; it enables us to keep across how to adapt our technology into these new environments.

TV Technology: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trends at the 2025 NAB Show?

Sam Kamel: AI … obviously, but no longer as a distant promise, but rather as a practical solution that is now here, reshaping media workflows in real time. At NAB Show, the conversation will shift from AI’s potential to its practical, revenue-driving impact. Broadcasters and streamers aren’t just experimenting anymore; they’re deploying AI to solve real challenges—accelerating metadata management, automating content localization, and testing how to practically add generative AI into production workflows.

Monetization strategies are also evolving fast. With audience behaviors shifting and ad models adapting, the one-size-fits-all revenue approach is no longer viable. Future success will require broad, flexible distribution strategies that help media companies maximize every content opportunity — whether that’s AVOD, SVOD, FAST, or direct transactions. Success hinges on efficiently reaching audiences wherever they consume content, without being locked into a single platform or business model.

Another major trend? The race to deliver content in formats audiences actually want, giving publishers the widest reach. Today’s viewers expect seamless access across platforms—whether that’s short-form, vertical video, or traditional long-form content. The challenge for media companies is scaling these efforts without disrupting existing workflows. The answer lies in smarter, more adaptive technology.

TVT: What will be your most important product news?

SK: This year at NAB, we’re showcasing ViewNexa which keeps making tremendous progress, along with our latest Fusion cloud and AI solutions, all designed to help media companies thrive in today’s evolving technology infrastructure.

Content owners—especially midtier and independent players—face growing challenges in distribution complexity, rising costs, and revenue diversification. ViewNexa levels the playing field by enabling seamless monetization across multiple models (AVOD, SVOD, TVOD, HVOD, FAST) while ensuring media companies retain control over their content, audience relationships, and data.

Beyond monetization, ViewNexa’s automated workflows simplify content distribution, optimize delivery, and provide data-backed insights that enhance audience engagement and revenue opportunities. It’s the smarter, more adaptable solution for an industry that can’t afford to stand still.

At the same time, we’re delivering cutting-edge hybrid cloud and AI solutions with our Fusion products, designed to streamline workflows, enhance content management, and maximize operational efficiency:

Fusion Hybrid Storage (FHS): A next-gen storage solution that merges on-premise reliability with the scalability of the cloud, reducing costs and improving content security.

Fusion Gateway: The bridge between media asset management (MAM) and content workflows, enhancing metadata, automating processes, and improving searchability.

Fusion Insights: An AI-powered discovery tool using Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) technology to surface content connections that traditional search methods miss.

Together, ViewNexa and Fusion solutions reinforce Bitcentral’s commitment to empowering media companies with cutting-edge solutions for streaming, monetization, storage, automation and AI-driven content management.

TVT: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

SK: ViewNexa isn’t just another streaming platform—it’s a comprehensive solution built for the evolving streaming landscape, giving media companies the flexibility and tools they need to scale their business. Unlike other solutions that specialize in either live and linear FAST channels or applications for OTT video platforms, ViewNexa provides both, offering an end-to-end platform that simplifies content management, expands audience reach, and maximizes revenue potential.

Here are some factors that make ViewNexa stand out:

Automated workflows—reducing manual effort in content distribution, metadata tagging, and audience insights.

Multi-model monetization—flexibility to optimize revenue across AVOD, SVOD, HVOD, TVOD, FAST.

Scalability without overhauls—a platform that grows with the media business.

In the Fusion suite, we’re taking media workflows to the next level, offering cloud and AI solutions:

Fusion Hybrid Storage (FHS) optimizes cost and accessibility by blending on-prem security with cloud agility.

Fusion Gateway makes MAM integrations with AI tools seamless, streamlining metadata and content discovery.

Fusion Insights is the latest AI-powered tool that leverages cutting-edge Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) technology, to surface hidden relationships within content libraries, improving discovery opportunities.

The bottom line? We give media companies control over their ecosystem, revenue streams, and audience connections—while ensuring they stay ahead of the industry’s rapid shifts.

TVT: What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

SK: NAB Show is where the media industry’s future takes shape. It’s where broadcasters, streamers, and content owners come to tackle the biggest challenges head-on—and where we get to showcase the solutions that make a real impact.

For us, NAB Show is about more than just product demos—it’s about connections and real conversations. We get to meet with our partners, swap ideas, and push the industry forward together. Every year, media leaders ask the same critical question: How do we retain control over our content while maximizing revenue in a constantly shifting market?

Every year, we bring new answers. This year, with ViewNexa and Fusion, we’re delivering the next evolution of monetization, automation, and content management with our cloud, streaming and AI solutions.

NAB Show is where innovation meets execution. We’re excited to show how we’re helping media companies as storytellers, stay competitive, profitable, and ahead of the curve.

TV Tech: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trends at the 2025 NAB Show?

J. Dave Hoffman: I think AI and remote workflows are going to be major themes this year. Assistive AI is becoming a game-changer for modern broadcast workflows, transforming how content can be produced and managed. By using AI-based tools to streamline tedious tasks, broadcasters can speed up their workflows and produce even higher quality content. In For example, DaVinci Resolve features like automatic transcription and audio classifying can help boost efficiency, especially in fast-paced environments like newsrooms, where material is unscripted and every second counts. Remote production is also revolutionizing broadcast workflows by making it possible to collaborate from anywhere. With tools like the ATEM Streaming Bridge, broadcasters and creators can work together on shows and build a global network of high-quality remote broadcast studios. Our Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 camera demonstrates how remote workflows are making a difference, given its ability to upload videos directly to Blackmagic Cloud, making media instantly accessible at the studio. Editors around the world can even sync and edit footage live in DaVinci Resolve while the camera is recording, so breaking news can be delivered to air within seconds. With these innovations, traditional broadcast studios can more easily transform into dynamic, remote operations. Between AI and new cloud capabilities, we’re entering a new era and I think we’ll start to see just how far these technologies can take us at this year’s show.

TVT: What will be your most important product news?

JDH: It’s less about a single product and more about making workflow connections. Standing on their own, our products are phenomenal, but creating an end to end workflow that is effective, affordable and produces high quality content is where we really thrive and what excites our customers. That said, I’m excited for attendees to learn more about some of the products we’ve announced since last year’s show. In particular, our Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive, which is the world’s first commercial camera system designed to capture Apple Immersive Video. Paired with DaVinci Resolve, users will have the ability to edit Apple Immersive Video for the first time. We’re taking pre-orders for the camera now so I think showgoers will be eager to lean more from us in person.

TVT: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

JDH: Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive is the world’s first commercial camera system designed to capture Apple Immersive Video. Apple Immersive Video is a brand-new storytelling format that leverages 8K, 3D video with a 180-degree field of view, and Spatial Audio to transport viewers to the center of the action. The camera enables creators to put the viewer in the action, compared to pulling the action out to the viewers — it’s opening up a whole new world for how we consume content and offering viewers an unparalleled sense of realism and immersion.

TVT: What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

JDH: We love talking to our customers, and while we are having all kinds of conversations with customers throughout the year, NAB provides somewhat of a “zoom-out” effect. Our CEO, Grant Petty, always says something along the lines of “we can’t wait to see what you do with our products” when announcing something new, and while I usually have a good idea as to how customers will use our products, I am never disappointed to have customers tell me or, in many cases, show me first hand what amazing things they have done with or products! It’s a unique environment where you’re talking to customers from every walk of life, every industry, back to back, all week. After it’s over and everyone catches their breath, you’ve got a good sense of where the industry is as a whole and where the priorities and interests are moving forward.

TV Tech: What will be your most important product news at NAB Show?

Ken Rubin: Actus X is here! We have poured tons of energy and resources into enhancements for our 10th version of the Actus Intelligent Monitoring Platform. Each of the six standalone products have been energized with advanced new features while also improving ease-of-use and synergy with other applications.

Our core QA Compliance Logging product received organizational improvements with browser-GUI access to set alert thresholds locally or remotely, grouped by Problems, Errors, Quality of Experience (QoE) or Quality of Service (QoS) issues, adapting dynamically to changes in your workflow for precision monitoring.

Prioritization and notification levels enable engineering teams to easily share tasks related to curing issues. As always, Actus Alert Center tracks impairments with linearly-stored proof used for QA analysis and confident compliance.

Actus MV multiviewer, with unlimited numbers of layouts and interactivity, also received many upgrades, including reduced latency, carousel tiles and new data-overlay display options such as SCTE trigger info, Nielsen SID details and TS analysis. Deploying Actus probe points throughout complex baseband and IP workflows with returns from newer transmission standards such as ATSC 3.0, 2110/2022-6 and a variety of streaming formats enables engineers to more quickly discern the origin of issues to resolve them faster.

Combining Actus MV and Actus QA Compliance creates a dynamic powerhouse that distributes QoE/QoS alert notifications through multiviewer-embedded alarms, penalty-box entries and automated email, App, SNMP and SMS messages.

TVT: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

KR: Actus X represents the pinnacle of our 20-year journey in developing the world’s best broadcast monitoring solution and builds on our proven track record while introducing significant innovations.

It provides industry-leading QA monitoring, compliance logging, and multiviewer capabilities for any combination of TV, radio and OTT inputs, with unique options to scale seamlessly to AI-powered content analysis. Clip Factory Pro empowers advanced clipping for content repurposing with AI-based automated clipping workflows publishing to social and VOD.

This multistaged deployment approach offers exceptional value for standalone appliances with flexible options to expand beyond technical monitoring and have one platform for multiple workflows and departments. Whether investing in an on-premises, VM-based, or SaaS solution, Actus Digital’s global support team provides the very best technical support, 24x7 across all time zones.

Many key benefits set Actus X apart, but quite simply Actus offers the best technical monitoring solution at surprisingly affordable prices that can be enhanced with extremely powerful AI-based news analysis and automated content repurposing capabilities.

For more specific advantages, I encourage TV Tech readers to stop by the Actus booth at NAB or schedule a private online demonstration.

TVT: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trends at the 2025 NAB Show?

KR: There is no question AI will be the talk of the show again this year. Most AI aims to reduce manual work with automation resulting in reduced cost, some deliver better accuracy, and almost all speed-up results.

The AI that Actus has leveraged into our platform expands the technical monitoring capabilities of our platform, typically used for Quality Assurance and Compliance, and introduces tremendous content-monitoring capabilities that, for example, help News teams quickly derive insights from programming broadcasted from competitors on local and international channels; or assist Government agencies to monitor a variety of programming, mainly news or direct camera feeds, to identify possible threats and to become aware of political agendas.

Another use of Actus AI enables TV Stations or Networks to monitor competitors 24x7 to inform their Sales teams when new Advertisers enter their market, allowing them to reach out to them at the opportune time to capture a portion of their ad-spend and increase their sales and overall profit.

TVT: What is it about NAB Show that brings you back every year?

KR: Actus has a passion for developing solutions that really deliver value to our customers. There is no better place to show so many top industry leaders what we have proudly developed since the last NAB … and to survey them about their new requirements and how to make our offering even more compelling for them.

NAB is also the place where we check in with our many partners in person, both technology partnerships from where we have integrated Actus into many best-in-class tools, as well as sales channel partners that have helped Actus obtain top global sales for systems of this type, including the fastest sales growth in the Americas, four years in a row.

Nothing beats the excitement of NAB—we celebrate our successes and learn how we can be even better.

NAB 2025 is extra special for Actus, as we celebrate our 20th year and reveal capabilities within new Actus X.

In advance of the 2024 IBC Show, Sept. 13-16 at the RAI Amsterdam, TV Tech spoke with Eric Ott, CEO of Mediaproxy, who will be exhibiting at Stand 5.D72 in the show's Content Everywhere Zone.

TV Tech: Why did you choose to exhibit in the Content Everywhere Zone this year?
Eric Ott: The Content Everywhere zone has become central to our key competences. The IBC halls are well-structured to provide customers and vendors with zones of interest. A lot of our partners are also in the hall, providing everyone with a kind of symbiosis platform. It’s also physically located in a central spot, making it easier for customers to get to meetings. The ‘Content Everywhere’ label also resonates with what we are providing to the industry as our technology has become very versatile, providing tools across a wide range of formats.

TVT: What will you be highlighting at your exhibit?
EO: We are showing the latest incarnation of our LogServer platform. After almost 25 years, it is well-established as the global standard for regulatory compliance, but also straddles across multiple disciplines of the monitoring chain. This nowadays includes best-of-breed SCTE-104/35 ad insertion monitoring across the playout chain to OTT and cloud-native monitoring.

Another growing part in the portfolio is our Monwall IP multiviewer. We have taken a modern approach to what IP monitoring needs to look like these days, especially at scale. The traditional methods only provide a certain amount of, mainly passive, functionality. For Monwall we have taken a more interactive approach to reduce the time it takes for operators and engineers to resolve incidents. We look forward to introducing more broadcasters to that concept.

TVT: Which trends do you expect will be most important at the show this year?
EO: The current trend with bleeding more AI into products will be proving a lot of the novelty. This conversation will certainly continue at the IBC Show. AI does have a great deal of potential in being able to learn and repeat common or more basic operational tasks in broadcasting, which has particular applications in monitoring. It will be interesting to see how the legal implications around this will determine more widely spread uptake in the short term.

After the Olympics, HDR would also have to creep up on everyone’s interest or to-do list. It looks like 4K has become less of a target as civilians appear to be responding to the extended colour range more than resolution. As an upsell, it seems to make more sense at this stage at least. Also, the migration from SDI to IP is progressing. I guess we all remember when the ‘SDI is dead’ posters lined the passage between halls 7 and 8 at IBC a few years back. The then amusingly provocative proclamation, has clearly not yet materialised. However, with a finally growing ecosystem of products and more cost-effective glue equipment surfacing rapidly, we should see this tip in IP’s favour now.

TVT: What brings you back to IBC every year?
EO: Certainly not the taxi queue at Schiphol airport! On a more serious note, IBC provides us with the opportunity to bring our global teams together and meet with both existing and new clients to discuss their needs. Nothing beats face to face and on stand demos are key to the work we do (and what we achieve) at the show.

For more information, visit https://show.ibc.org/content-everywhere

In advance of the 2024 IBC Show, Sept. 13-16 at the RAI Amsterdam, TV Tech spoke with Stefan Lederer, CEO and co-founder of Bitmovin, who will be exhibiting at Stand 5.H48 in the show's Content Everywhere Zone.

TV Tech: Why did you choose to exhibit in the Content Everywhere Zone this year?
Stefan Lederer: Bitmovin was founded to shape the future of video, creating best in class video development solutions that enable customers to create memorable digital experiences, worldwide. This makes the Content Everywhere Zone our natural home at IBC, as it is the go-to-place for the latest trends and innovations in OTT streaming and the monetization of content.

Being in the Content Everywhere Zone not only puts us in the right place for current and potential customers looking for ways to play, encode and analyze video content simply, efficiently and with the highest quality imaginable, but it also gets us close to our partners covering a whole range of solutions across the OTT video space.

TVT: What will you be highlighting at your exhibit?
SL: As always, we will be presenting our latest innovations. This year, this spans a few key areas:

Live, live, live: In the past 18 months, our live encoding team has made huge advancements to our live encoder, and we already have a number of new customers successfully using it. OneFootball is a great example of this. OneFootball is using our live encoder on Akamai Cloud Computing to deliver high-quality live streams at scale to its millions of viewers. You can read more about this in the press release and case study. We will have further developments to our live encoder that we'll be sharing at the show.

Our presence in the sports industry: We announced a brand new feature called Multiview that provides a more compelling experience for audiences by enabling them to watch multiple streams simultaneously. Bitmovin’s Multiview is designed for use cases such as sports, esports, and live events, where it’s advantageous to provide the audience with the option of staying immersed in the content they want by removing the need to flick between different channels. We know this is a feature that a lot of sports customers want. We already have a number of sports customers, including ORF (which was a broadcaster for the 2024 Euros), Sportall, OneFootball and Globo.

AI will naturally continue to be a big talking point and our Bitmovin Analytics AI Session Interpreter will make its IBC debut. Launched ahead of NAB, it is a new feature for Bitmovin Analytics that aims to simplify data analysis and provide concise text summaries accessible to users with varying degrees of technical knowledge. It's an innovation we're proud of as it's making video streaming more accessible by presenting video analytics in a more accessible way so users can troubleshoot any streaming issues faster.

TVT: Which trends do you expect will be most important at the show this year?
SL: AI will certainly remain a huge topic as we head into this year’s IBC. We have already seen significant advancements in this area over recent months and I’m certain that the show will be awash with vendors launching solutions and services related to AI. Indeed, our most recent Video Developer Report found that over 90% of developers plan to use AI/ ML to improve the video experience for viewers. And it certainly makes a lot of sense when you consider the cost and resource efficiencies afforded by AI. Of course, we are no exception here. The Bitmovin Analytics AI Session Interpreter leverages the power of AI to help users better understand playback sessions with explanations and recommendations for improving their service.

Monetization will remain a big talking point. The industry has faced a number of challenges over the past couple of years. The global economic climate has led to a decrease in spend on video services, which in turn means the industry is focusing on cost-reduction. However, that won't drive growth. What we need now is to focus on new ways to create additional monetization opportunities to promote growth. This is beginning to happen with many video services introducing ad-funded tiers, for example. I believe we will see further innovation in this arena, with more technology and solutions emerging that make it easier than ever for video providers to diversify revenue streams.

TVT: What brings you back to IBC every year?
SL: Each year, IBC drives thought leadership, innovation, best practice and diversity across the 250,000-strong global community. As the flagship media and entertainment conference and trade show in Europe, IBC is one of the most important events in our calendar and a must-attend for us.

While the world has gone a lot more online, it is clear that face-to-face meetings remain invaluable. IBC delivers a unique opportunity to meet customers, prospects, and partners under one roof, helping us continue, or in some cases start, meaningful conversations and ultimately forge better relationships.

For more information, visit https://show.ibc.org/content-everywhere

TV TECHNOLOGY:What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trend at the 2019 NAB Show?

MIKE SAVELLO: The most significant trend on everyone’s mind and what we anticipate seeing in many booths at the NAB Show will be AI and its impact on news and storytelling. AI-based speech to text for automatic tagging, metadata insertion and closed-captioning generation will be invaluable to broadcasters.

Here at LiveU we are excited by what AI can mean for content routing and handling. Systems like bonded-cellular and IP distribution, such as LiveU's LU600 and 300, as well as our Matrix distribution system, mean stations and networks have access to more content, including live content, than ever before. But having access to it doesn't help if you can't identify, classify and route that content to your outlets and needs. To keep up with the “content explosion,” content originators need help and AI can provide that—it’s particularly strong for identifying and classifying people and objects. We’ll demo AI for tagging and metadata insertion in our booth.

We also expect to hear more conversations around 5G and its effect on broadcasters and cellular bonding this year. 5G doesn't just provide lower latency with higher bandwidth; it enables whole new business models for the carriers, which they can pass on to broadcasters. These are possibilities LTE wasn't capable of. We’re looking for areas where 5G can begin to have short-term impacts on the media business. That can come in the form of getting 5G-enabled tools into the hands of content creators now.

TVT:What will be your most important product news?

SAVELLO: HEVC is transforming live content for broadcasters and online content creators. We’re eager to share news about our 4K-SDI card, the newest addition to our family of hardware-based HEVC encoder/transmitters. The 4K-SDI solution facilitates professional 4Kp50/60 streaming for top-quality production, supporting VR and 360 applications

The release of our global live content management and distribution system LiveU Matrix enables stations to view, manage and distribute live content quickly and efficiently throughout the media group using low-cost internet connectivity. This platform is poised to transform the way media groups manage and distribute live content over IP.

TVT:How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

SAVELLO: Our HEVC products are all based on hardware HEVC encoding for maximum quality and optimal battery utilization. Users can operate in real time with extreme low latency with the highest quality, even at very low bit rates. This is where the LU300 differs from software solutions where video quality may be sacrificed to keep the latency low or may be switched back to H.264 to save battery life. Unlike software solutions, LiveU’s hardware solutions are encoding in HEVC all the time, providing longer battery time.

LiveU Matrix is the first global content management system that can scale to thousands of simultaneous feeds. The IP video management platform gives media groups and their local affiliates full visibility into all feeds available and puts the broadcaster in the driver’s seat to manage and send content anywhere, without interruption or another piece of hardware. We’re confident that LiveU Matrix will quickly become an invaluable tool for maximizing our customer’s capabilities, while reducing production and distribution costs.

TVT:What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

SAVELLO: There’s no better show to learn about the trends, issues and technology that’s impacting the news and media industry. It’s where our customers go.

FIORE JR.: The 2019 NAB Show will have a heavy focus on ATSC 3.0/Next Generation Broadcasting Technology. We were elated to see the release of the complete suite of ATSC 3.0 standards last January, allowing companies such as Comark to develop, test and deploy exciting new technologies. NGBT provides broadcasters with more avenues to engage the consumer than ever before, and from a technology standpoint it extends the IP-enabled workflow all the way through to the transmitter’s input. NGBT also allows us to promote and integrate software-defined encoding solutions that provide the flexibility for today’s challenges and support tomorrow’s more efficient encoding algorithms.

TVT:What will be your most important product news?

FIORE: We are focused on integrating technology and software solutions to meet the upcoming demands of NGBT with our team of experts here at Comark Digital Services (CDS). CDS is not a product but rather an integration, test and deployment arm of our company that has already helped broadcasters with their end-to-end solutions. To that end, we are testing various technologies and products to bring the best-of-breed solutions to the market. One of these technologies is our software encoding solution CDS powered by TITAN Live. Software encoding is a cost-effective solution that easily supports a station’s current requirements including ATSC 1.0, high-quality feeds to cable/DTH MSOs, as well as the station’s OTT feed. The same system can also be provisioned for ATSC 3.0, all of the above within a single software solution.

On the transmitter front, we continue to promote and produce our award-winning PARALLAX liquid-cooled, solid-state, high-efficiency product line (4 kW–100 kW). This year we are also introducing the E-Compact “MP series” of air-cooled, solid-state transmitters for LPTV/SFN applications. The new EC710MP-BB is a perfect solution for customers requiring a compact 1 kW DTV transmitter, featuring separate PA and PSU chassis that utilize only 4RUs of cabinet space. In addition, future compatibility with both ATSC 1.0/ATSC 3.0 is ensured, providing the same output power for either standard.

TVT:How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

FIORE: CDS powered by TITAN Live is a pure software encoding solution and as such it provides the flexibility to meet the needs of all broadcasters, present and future.

First, it is flexible enough to be deployed on a variety of configurations including bare metal servers, blade servers/data centers or even the cloud. Also, CDS is able to assist broadcasters with deployments, integrations and even migrating the software encoding solution from one configuration to another.

Second, the solution allows each video program to be processed and then sent simultaneously in multiple output formats. This means CDS powered by TITAN Live supports legacy MPEG-2 (ATSC 1.0), H.264 (HQ feeds to the local MSO), HEVC/SHVC (ATSC 3.0) and even HLS (a dedicated OTT feed via a CDN). And all of this capability contained within a single software solution running in a variety of deployment environments.

Third, since CDS powered by TITAN Live is a pure, software-based solution, additional features or software codecs (such as AV1) can be introduced into the product suite as the market changes and technology continues to evolve.

TVT:What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

FIORE: For almost 45 years I have been attending the NAB Show with the same company since the Chicago convention in 1975/76. Over the years much has changed, but we have built many strong relationships with broadcasters and we look forward to bringing innovative products and customer-focused solutions to the NAB Show. For Comark, the NAB Show is about technology and relationships. We have many customers but also many friends that we enjoy seeing at this venue.

TV TECHNOLOGY:What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trend at the 2019 NAB Show?

ANDREAS HILMER: It may sound repetitive, but the answer is IP. As the availability of ST2110-compliant products increases, and the rapidly increasing number of real-world deployments shows tangible benefits, IP will again be the most-discussed topic on the show floor. The other trends I anticipate are that HDR and 4K, which Lawo has already integrated into our IP products, will become standard parts of production infrastructure. Looking into audio, immersive sound will become a hot technology topic again as the natural counterpart to 4K. Going beyond live production, I have the strong feeling that we’ll see the first utilization of blockchain and AI technology for broadcasting applications at the NAB Show; at the very least, these will likely be heavily discussed topics.

TVT:What will be your most important product news?

HILMER: Since Lawo is known as an IP-native company with a portfolio ranging from audio and video-to-IP interfacing, audio and video processing to IP broadcast control and real-time telemetry, it might sound strange that we’re going to announce a standalone SDI multiviewer. But this is actually a very logical step, as it brings 4K/HDR capability, a significantly reduced footprint and our unique unlimited scalability to clients using baseband infrastructure.

And of course, it wouldn’t be a Lawo product if it wasn’t future-proof, which is why the product’s hardware is software-defined and includes IP network connectivity, and ensures that an investment in this standalone multiviewer is not a dead-end. Other product news includes new widgets for our SMART System Monitoring and Realtime Telemetry solution; new features for our VSM IP broadcast control system; new virtual modules for our V__matrix IP routing processing and multiviewing platform; new WAN- capable A__ Audio-over-IP interfaces; a new mc2 audio product; and the Power Core RP Remote Audio Mixing Engine for mc2 consoles.

TVT:How is your new product different from what's available on the market?

HILMER: In general, our IP products are serving as the foundation for multiple real- world installations around the globe, ranging from OB trucks over broadcast facilities to country- and even continent-wide distributed production infrastructures.

Based on open standards such as ST2022, AES67, RAVENNA and Ember+, we’re able to provide a comprehensive solution for signal infrastructure projects of any size. When it comes to differentiation, there are a few points worth mentioning. First, our VSM IP control system can basically scale to any size and is designed to serve as an independent control system, which means it supports the widest range of third-party protocols, as well as perfect integration with our own gear. This is essential in both baseband and IP projects, as the power of the control system defines the benefits that can be gained in any broadcast installation. Second is the WAN-capability of all of our IP edge devices, both video and audio. This eliminates the need for third-party signal contribution systems and results in a streamlined system design with fewer single points of failure. Of course, all interfaces also support ST2022-7 Class C redundancy. Looking at one specific product, the V__matrix distributed IP multiviewer is the only infinitely expandable multiviewer available, providing a solution that significantly reduces rackspace, weight and power consumption—and the same is true for our new standalone SDI multiviewer.

TVT:What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

HILMER: Simply the buzz. Everyone is there; everything is happening there. The NAB Show provides us with the opportunity to reach all of our friends in the industry, to demonstrate our latest products, to share the experiences we gained in recent projects, and to build up plenty of new relationships. We’re all lucky to be in this family called “broadcasting,” and I think having a show like the NAB Show—where everyone is able to come together to present new technologies and share ideas and experiences—is vital for an industry that moves as quickly as ours.

TV TECHNOLOGY:What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trend at the 2018 NAB Show?

BOGDAN FRUSINA: With viewers expecting access to content anywhere, anytime and on any screen, budgets are being squeezed as broadcasters are forced to do more for less. Reducing costs and improving productivity are top of mind. Broadcasters are looking for technologies that will help them achieve these objectives while maintaining quality and reliability.

While augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), UHD/4K and HDR promise to deliver an enhanced viewer experience and gets lots of attention, we think broadcasters will also focus on more cost-effective workflows—so technologies featuring artificial intelligence to automate workflows, the shift to IP, technologies that address the connectivity challenges for remote production, and greater use of the cloud for production, management and delivery will continue to be trends.

TVT:What will be your most important product news?

FRUSINA: We’ll be featuring the Dejero CellSat solution and new enhancements. Launched last August, it will be new to NAB Show visitors this year. In a nutshell, the solution enhances transmission reliability for news, sports and live event broadcasters in the field by combining cellular connections from multiple carriers with Ku-band IP satellite connectivity provided by Intelsat.

It’s ideal for situations where the cellular networks are congested or in very remote locations when the cellular signal can diminish during the live feed.

Basically, with CellSat, remote crews can confidently broadcast live from virtually anywhere, safe in the knowledge that if the available cellular bandwidth deteriorates, CellSat will automatically blend in satellite connectivity to boost bandwidth for the live shot. With built-in intelligence and automation, we’ve greatly simplified how these two transmission paths can be combined into a unified service that’s provided by, billed and supported from a single provider, and managed in the cloud.

We’ll also be showcasing additional HEVC capabilities as the industry transitions to the latest compression standard, and demonstrate enhancements to our GateWay mobile connectivity solution that addresses the connectivity challenges of remote field crews that need to collaborate with colleagues back at the studio, enabling workflows to become more integrated.

TVT:How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

FRUSINA: CellSat leverages Dejero’s patented network blending technology using algorithms to constantly monitor in real time the bandwidth available from the IP connection paths, detecting bandwidth fluctuations and latency differences caused by network congestion or other factors, and automatically blending in satellite connectivity to boost overall bandwidth to the level needed for high-quality live feeds.

In addition to the added reliability, the solution is designed for operational simplicity, aligned with Dejero’s drive to simplify workflows. Other solutions require procurement and support of cellular and satellite services from multiple vendors, but the CellSat service is available from one, greatly simplifying procurement and billing, providing integrated cloud management, and also providing a single point of contact for support—a package that’s unmatched in the marketplace.

TVT:What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

FRUSINA: It’s quite simple: NAB Show is where the key decision makers and influencers from the broadcast and media industry gather to discover new ways to address their challenges.

Each year we have a record-breaking number of visitors to our booth, and haven’t been disappointed yet with the types of visitors that the show attracts. It gives us another opportunity to engage with customers, prospects and industry partners all in one place.

The conference program is also impressive and genuinely addresses what those in the business of content creation and consumption are faced with and what they need to consider from a technological, business and operational perspective for future success as the industry evolves.

In fact, the broadcast industry is starting to see the cloud as a scalable and viable technology to increase efficiencies, without having to bear a high CAPEX/OPEX, which they have been traditionally incurring. Going forward, broadcasters will look at the cloud for all their critical workflow components such as content preparation, storage, archival, playout, delivery, monetization, overall management and monitoring.

As consumers continue to demand a better quality television experience, we’ll also see heightened interest in 4K UHD at this year’s NAB Show. On the device side, we are seeing leading manufacturers offering UHD television screens, but there aren’t many 4K channels on air today. Broadcasters will be looking for technologies that enable them to playout and deliver 4K content. This is an industry trend we are responding to very aggressively at Amagi.

OTT is picking up steam and content owners, TV networks and broadcasters will make an aggressive move towards OTT. Key challenges on monetization of OTT feeds will be addressed this year and our launch of THUNDERSTORM for OTT targeted, dynamic ad insertion on the server side will help TV networks monetize their OTT feeds more effectively.

TVT:What will be your most important product news?

SRINIVASAN: Amagi will be showcasing its CUMULUS cloud broadcast platform, an end-to-end broadcast tool-chain on the cloud. The platform encompasses content preparation through third-party integration, storage, archival, playout and content delivery via cloud, satellite and OTT, as well as monetization of traditional TV and OTT multiscreen content.

As part of CUMULUS, Amagi will unveil CLOUDPORT 3.0, the latest version of its cloud-based playout platform that increases operational efficiency, scalability and cost savings for broadcasters. CLOUDPORT 3.0 enables TV networks to operate virtualized playout on the cloud, giving them greater flexibility and agility to spin new channels and create regional feeds instantly to keep pace with changing viewer dynamics and preferences.

CLOUDPORT 3.0 is IP-enabled, supports live broadcast, multi-feed monitoring and is 4K UHD compatible, meeting all of broadcasters’ key requirements for virtualized playout. The platform can also operate as an edge playout solution installed at operator headends. CLOUDPORT 3.0 will be available as Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) platform using Intelservers on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

We’ll also be launching THUNDERSTORM, a new ad insertion platform that simplifies the delivery of personalized and targeted advertising on premium live and linear OTT feeds. With THUNDERSTORM, TV networks can dynamically insert ads on the server side, as opposed to the traditional client side ad insertions that the industry is accustomed to. THUNDERSTORM’s server-side ad stitching is app-independent and platform agnostic. It completely bypasses client-side ad-blockers and allows TV networks and content owners control the entire ad experience. The platform uses Amagi’s patented content watermarking technology to identify replacement triggers and achieve frame-accurate ad splicing.

We’re encouraging content owners, TV networks and programmers to stop by the Amagi booth SU13006 at the 2016 NAB Show to see how these solutions will transform the distribution of their live, linear and nonlinear streams.

TVT:How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

SRINIVASAN: While we see newer entrants in the cloud broadcast technology market Amagi is unique as it equips TV networks to transition to a cloud infrastructure to operate its entire workflow. Amagi is the only broadcast platform on the cloud addressing the entire broadcast tool chain. Amagi brings a wealth of partners to enable each of the workflow components, be it content preparation, storage, archival, playout, delivery and monetization on the cloud.

Amagi’s cloud playout is also a unique offering as it is “cloud-native” – built ground up for the cloud, unlike legacy playout solutions. We leverage the cloud’s elastic computation capability to provide a truly superior playout solution including advanced dynamic graphics (with Adobe After Effects templates), sophisticated digital video effects, deep integration with social media and integrated IP streaming. Built on public cloud architecture, Amagi allows dynamic playout instantiation and starting off new feeds in minutes.

TVT:What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

SRINIVASAN: NAB Show is one of the biggest and most followed events for the broadcast and media world. It gives decision-makers and practitioners here in the United States and across the world a perfect opportunity to experience, compare and evaluate the latest technologies.

In the past, we have seen that geographically distributed customer teams converge at the NAB Show to meet with our cloud experts. Normally, it would be very difficult to orchestrate such in-person interaction owing to time zones and distances. The NAB Show is a very convenient place to meet and engage with customers.

Further, the United States is a very attractive market for Amagi’s innovative cloud broadcast and advertising platforms. Our presence at the show over the last four years has helped us create more awareness and demand for our products. Therefore, we continue to stay invested in the show.

Systems to support these new delivery platforms and UHD will drive the technology applications, and adapting these tools to cloud infrastructure, whether private or public will be key to leveraging innovations in the upcoming years.

TVT:What will be your most important product news?

BATISTA: Tedial will not only introduce our ground breaking Version Factory, the world’s first true media factory workflow, we have also been invited to deliver a technical paper about the technology at NAB Show. Version Factory is a single, efficient and cost-effective workflow that supports millions of file input-to-output configurations and can be managed from a single operator screen. Designed to interface to content management/rights management/traffic/work order systems for automated operations, the Version Factory stacks your chosen media engines (transcoders, quality control, DRM, CDN, etc.), employs SMPTE standardized designs for future-proof “N-input to N-output” operations, and provides the maximum flexibility and scalability for OTT/VOD platforms, network operations and media companies focused on managing their Brand across all distribution formats.

This innovative application is built upon our new Evolution BPM, the industry’s fastest and most flexible Business Process Management (BPMN 2.0-compliant) Workflow engine. Evolution BPM will be highlighted at the show as well. Benchmarked against leading industry workflow engines such as Bonitasoft and Activity and already deployed in sites around the world, Evolution BPM is clocked 17 times faster and scales linearly through platform additions, whether physical or virtual, with no limitations! Real-world statistics prove Evolution BPM can process 50,000 workflows in only 2.9 minutes on an average sized platform. We are very excited to share this new tool’s ability to provide a cost-effective and efficient foundation to business practices with attendees.

TVT:How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

BATISTA: The Tedial Evolution BPM is the first media-centric BPMN 2.0-compliant software designed with scalability and speed as its core functionalities. The Version Factory is the next logical step in building a true media factory, which until now has only been a dream for network operators, service providers and brand managers for over 15 years. These innovations are a major breakthrough in cost-saving design, driving the current technology of multiple workflows in support of media format and configuration packages to a single system that can be fully automated through interconnection to existing back office systems and third-party tools.

TVT:What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

BATISTA: The NAB Show offers a unique opportunity to meet with customers and prospects while networking with our technology and business partners. It is the best place to get an understanding of world trends in media and entertainment and provides a reliable and valuable venue to introduce our products and services to the broadcast marketplace.

For us at MultiDyne, we know that we are a transport company, not just a fiber company, starting with the addition of an IP feature to our products. Adding the option for a 2022 IP output to the SilverBack is just the start.

The pace of this migration has increased significantly over the past 18 moths and I expect at the NAB Show we’ll see more advanced implementations of IP (SMPTE 2022.5/6).

TVT: What will be your most important product news?

JACHETTA: I can’t give away too much, but expect a variety of new features and capabilities for our SilverBack camera-bask transceiver line (SD/HD and 4K models); our BullDog field fiber transport system and handheld converter line, as well as the SilverBULLET. We’re also showing a new POV/PTZ camera system that is form fit to the base of most PTZ cameras. In general, at this year’s NAB Show we’re thinking “smaller, lighter and faster.”

I’m also excited to see what’s new in the area of 4K/8K product equipment. We have some things in the pipeline that are very complimentary to the higher resolutions being talked about now. At MultiDyne we’re anticipating the industry to move to 4K production very quickly (in many cases it already has begun the process) and 8K after that; Higher and higher resolution is here to stay. There are huge advantages to shooting in 4K beyond creating 4K content. The image can be cropped to HD size to capture the action up close or even create what looks like another camera at the shoot by cutting to different HD sections of the same 4K image.

TVT: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

JACHETTA: MultiDyne specializes in high-quality signal transport over fiber optic cable. We don’t process the signal or change it in any way, we just convert what’s coming in to an optical signal and then pass it down a fiber cable. At the other end, we convert the signals back to copper with as little change as possible. We only transport. By design, we output the exact same thing that was inputted. While maintaining this philosophy, we either make a card, a black box or camera-mounted systems for every single signal type or application. This allows the user to maintain the highest quality across the entire distribution chain and send signals much farther than they can over a copper cable. Fiber gives us virtually unlimited bandwidth for countless signals of any type, including 4K, 8K and beyond. We’re not limited in any way.

TVT: What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

JACHETTA: Missing the NAB Show would be like missing your wedding. We enjoy seeing our customers and marketing partners as well as a lot of the new technology on display on the show floor. The NAB Show has also always been a good opportunity for us to show the industry what we’re up to and get the feedback we use to improve the products and make them the best they can be. I encourage everyone to come visit us in Booth C5113 and see what all the excitement is about.

With uncompressed video over IP, the discussion will be focused on the varying options that are available and what makes sense today. Throughout the Evertz booth this year, we will be highlighting Adaptive Sample Picture Encapsulation (ASPEN) and its interoperability with members of the ASPEN Community. ASPEN is an open-format, standards-based transport protocol, which offers a flexible method of transporting video, audio and data over a scalable IP network. Based on previous deployments and the maturity of the technology, we believe that ASPEN is the only viable choice to deploy IP in the live production environment today.

The topic of Ultra HD has been discussed at the NAB Show over the past two years, however, with the addition of high dynamic range (HDR) and wide color gamut (WCG), we expect Ultra HD services will excel this year. Both HDR and WCG create an immersive image, which will appeal to the end viewer. Hence, the increased interest from our customers to move from the proof-of-concept stage to a full-time Ultra HD channel as soon as possible.

This year, there will be more conversations around cloud services and the viability of it for our customers. Both public and private cloud services offer customers a way to provide content more effectively without the large capital expenditures in a physical infrastructure. We expect a lot of interest in this space, as customers have started to launch mainstream channels using cloud-based services.

TVT: What will be your most important product news?

GOYAL: We will have a lot of product announcements around the major technology trends mentioned earlier. For uncompressed video over IP, we will be demonstrating the new features and capabilities of our Software Defined Video Networking (SDVN) solutions. One aspect is interoperability with other ASPEN Community members’ products and the other transporting uncompressed Ultra HD over IP. In each case MAGNUM, our SDVN orchestration and control software, is an important component of the demonstration. MAGNUM is the most advanced SDVN orchestration and control software on the market today, and it is the core of over 40+ global SDVN installations.

In addition to transporting uncompressed Ultra HD over IP, we will highlight other Ultra HD products, such as DreamCatcher for Ultra HD production, OVRT-LIVE-4K for integrated channel playout, and 3080UEP and 3482TXE for contribution and distribution compression of Ultra HD.

We will also be highlighting our cloud-based platforms for both media asset management and channel playout. Both Mediator-X and OVRT-LIVE-VM will demonstrate to our customers the viability and reliability of these services for their mainstream channels.

TVT: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

GOYAL: At Evertz we always take an innovate approach to every new product or feature we introduce and our customers recognize this. This year we’ll continue to demonstrate this mindset with new features on products such as MAGNUM SDVN and OvertureRT LIVE platforms.

MAGNUM SDVN is the software control and orchestration layer for our leading SDVN solutions. Although having a large portfolio of media gateways and high-capacity switch fabrics is important, it is the control system that will win the business. MAGNUM SDVN really sets us apart from the competition. MAGNUM SDVN provides seamless (and complete) control of hybrid SDI IP facilities while maintaining a simple source, destination and take operation. This year, we’ve added new features (like topology and path view) that enable our customers (the broadcast engineers) to configure, manage and maintain the hybrid (or purely) IP solutions with tools that “look and feel” like their SDI world.

With the OvertureRT LIVE platform, we’ve created a completely virtual integrated channel playout called OVRT-LIVE-VM. The key differentiator from other products in the market is that the virtual platform offers the complete feature set of the physical version of OvetureRT LIVE. There’s no compromise or sacrifice of features. This is extremely important for media companies and playout service providers as they look for cost-effective private/public cloud service models for disaster recovery and short-term channels.

TVT: What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

GOYAL:The NAB Show is the biggest event for our industry. As manufacturers, we use the NAB Show as a major milestone for our product development process and it is the best platform to showcase new technologies that address today’s issues such as ASPEN and Ultra HD HDR. The show gives us the opportunity to engage customers for their feedback on our new product ideas and development. Lastly, it enables us to educate the industry on upcoming trends and the future of technology.

We are big believers in IP as the future of video production. It represents the biggest transformational change in the industry since file-based workflows replaced tape and we may not see a bigger transition in our lifetime.

TVT: What will be your most important product news?

CROSS: We will be demonstrating NewTek’s TriCaster Advanced Edition featuring our Network Device Interface (NDI) protocol, an open standard for live production for anyone wanting to enable IP workflows over Ethernet networks in their facilities or in production systems they manufacture.

TVT: How is your new product different from what’s available on the market?

CROSS: NDI allows multiple video systems to identify and communicate with one another over IP, and to encode, transmit and receive many streams of high-quality, low-latency, frame-accurate video and audio in real time. This new protocol can benefit any network-connected video device, including video mixers, graphics systems, capture cards, and many other production devices. This makes it possible to exponentially increase the number of sources available for live production switching, without directly attaching to devices, changing locations, or investing in expensive, high-bandwidth networks that simply replace SDI-based workflows. NDI is also backwards-compatible with a large number of devices from top manufacturers and developers already using NewTek’s previous technology allowing IP connectivity between devices. This will extend support for NDI to well over 100,000 compatible systems already deployed worldwide, making it by far the most prolific IP video transfer method in the production market. NDI is a royalty-free software development kit (SDK).

TVT: What is it about the NAB Show that brings you back every year?

CROSS: The NAB Show is, without question, the biggest event in our industry year after year. It is not only a great venue to launch and demonstrate our latest technology, but it’s where we can best interact directly with the broadest number of partners, developers, past and future customers, press and more. There’s no substitute for it and that’s what brings us back every year.
