LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill.—LG Electronics served as the official technology provider and 4K UHD display for both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions that took place in August.

LG supplied 4K UHD displays to support convention operations in both Milwaukee (DNC) and Charlotte, N.C. (RNC), including live speeches, pre-recorded segments and delegate roll call. The DNC featured 43-, 55 and 65-inch LG screens in its multimedia control center, while the RNC had 65- and 75-inch LG screens installed in VIP viewing areas and greenrooms.

“Innovation is non-partisan, but it plays a critical role in political conventions this year due to the pandemic,” said John I. Taylor, senior vice president, LG Electronics USA. “As official provider, LG is proud to help make this year’s reimagined digital conventions a reality.”

For more information, visit www.LG.com.

COLUMBIA, Md.—While this week’s Democratic National Convention forgoed the traditional convention crowds because of the COVID-19 pandemic, LTN Global helped bring the American people into the event through its technology.

As the official interactive production partner for the DNC, LTN’s Live Video Cloud platform enabled multiple live streams to be taken from participants across the country and then distributed onto an LED screen on the stage of the make-shift convention hall, as well as into on-air production for channels, including social media.

Viewers got to see Live Video Cloud at work after Joe Biden and Kamala Harris each gave their speeches accepting the Democratic party’s nominations for president and vice president, respectively.

LVC is a high-capacity media-control console from LTN Command. It provided the DNC with live video acquisition, routing and distribution capabilities.

“Using LTN’s innovative cloud-based solutions, the DNC has set the precedent for the future of events no matter the format, theme or geographical location,” claims Malik Khan, LTN executive chairman and co-founder.

For more information, visit www.ltnglobal.com.

MILWAUKEE—The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) is promoting online streaming of the Democratic National Convention, which starts Monday.

No surprise there since it is the first-ever virtual convention and the DNCC is providing its own curated coverage. But while the proceedings are being covered on broadcast and cable TV as well, a DNC promo video clearly puts a thumb on the scale for over-the-top, making the TV watcher (singular) appear old school and behind the curve.

In its "How Are You Going to Watch the Democratic National Convention" YouTube video (below), the DNC features engaged, upbeat people talking about watching the convention by streaming it on Amazon Fire, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Prime, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Amazon Echo, Twitch or the DNCC site.

The comic relief comes from a "dad" on the couch who appears clueless. When asked where he is going to watch the convention he goes "huh?"—while a graphic explains, parenthetically, "probably on television," accompanied by a mocking emoji.

At least former Republican Governor John Kasich, who is supporting Democrat Joe Biden and speaking at the convention in support of the Democratic ticket Monday night, sent out an e-mail Monday saying folks could either watch it on TV (first option) or on the DNCC Web site.

The app will serve as a free destination for live coverage of the convention, as well as offer bonus live and on-demand content. When the convention ends, viewers will have access to the entire recording through the app.

“We hope the timely launch of these apps for the DNCC, along with the entire convention streamed live, will help redefine how technology and democracy can work together to shape our country’s conversation for years to come,” said Paul Hamm, founder and CEO of Endavo.

The Democratic National Convention, where former Vice President Joe Biden will officially receive the Democratic party’s nomination for president, will take place in Milwaukee from Aug. 17-20, but the typical format will be shifted to adhere to safety guidelines because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

For more information, visit www.endavomedia.com.
