PARIS—In recent years, Brussels-based BX1 has been able to expand its multimedia channel and content operations by investing in an agile production infrastructure. Anchored by the Dalet Galaxy five platform, that infrastructure has allowed BX1 to integrate its growing TV, digital and radio production operations.

BX1, which started out as a weekly community show in 1985, has in recent years been expanding its TV operations into a multimedia enterprise spanning television, radio, digital and social media.

Early in this trajectory , BX1 and Dalet started their collaboration in 2015 with the installation of Dalet News Pack, a lighter-weight, packaged Dalet Galaxy five solution, allowing journalists to share media and collaborate on news stories.

Since then, as part of its multimedia strategy, it has deployed an agile production and distribution infrastructure underpinned by Dalet Galaxy five that allows BX1 to prepare and deliver local news, politics, business, culture, fashion, music and sports content from a single media technology platform.

In 2020, the system was upgraded with the full deployment of Dalet Galaxy five with Dalet Xtend for Adobe Premiere Pro editing, offering all of the production and distribution capabilities that the Dalet’s Unified News Operations solution has to offer.

Cédric van Uytvanck, technical director since 2014, recalled that at first, BX1 was solely a TV station, operated by only five employees but as BXI matured, its move into additional media was made possible by the Dalet system. “In 2020, we launched the radio station, which proved to us that choosing Dalet...was the right strategy.” Cédric explained.

Live output increased to seven hours per day and the lunch hour radio broadcast - now with video - was extended from 30 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes, doubling the audience.

Cédric concludes: “By choosing Dalet, we avoided the mistake of buying a system that could only handle TV. We are equally fluent now in TV, radio, visual radio and podcast, as well as digital and social media with key integrations such as Adobe Premiere Pro that enable us to have a robust editorial workflow. And Dalet is right at the center of our operations as we expand into the future.”

PARIS—Dalet announced enhancements to the usability of its Dalet On-the-Go mobile app for smartphones and tablets to improve how journalists working remotely can collaborate with their newsroom colleagues via a new user interface (UI).

The company has also enhanced its underlying Dalet Galaxy five news production and distribution platform. Dalet has added remote editing features, such as cloud-based edit while recording, and support for open-source frameworks to accelerate secure content exchange across multisite and distributed newsroom operations, the company said.

The enhancements also benefit Dalet Galaxy xCloud, the dedicated, cloud-hosted system managed by Dalet as a full SaaS service, the company said. The service connects securely with existing on-premises systems, supporting advanced workflows for remote editing and news production teams.

“Our digital-first product strategy focuses on mobility and flexibility,” said Bea Alonso, director of product marketing for the company. “Dalet On-the-Go and remote news production solutions, like Dalet Galaxy xCloud, empower journalists, reporters and chief editors with the technology they need to pivot, remain productive and keep telling vital stories.”

DALET ON-THE-GO

The latest release of Dalet On-the-Go connects journalists, reporters and chief editors to the newsroom. The app makes possible remote assignment management, story development, review and approval, rundowns, planning, status and contact search. It also gives users easy access to their Dalet Galaxy five catalog of video, audio, scripts and wires, the company said.

Available from Apple’s App Store and Google Play, Dalet On-the-Go offers advanced content contribution capabilities. Templates let users record media and craft stories quickly by mixing local media together with remote content stored within the Dalet Galaxy five system, the company said.

Dalet’s smart upload features guard against connectivity issues, reconnecting to the upload exactly where it left off when necessary. Teleprompter support for on-the-fly reporting is provided, while tickers, wires and chat messages keep staff connected to information and late-breaking news, the company said.

DALET GALAXY FIVE AND DALET GALAXY xCLOUD

The SaaS-based Dalet Galaxy xCloud offering is a full-featured version of the latest Dalet Galaxy five platform. Hosted by Dalet, it leverages the cloud to facilitate end-to-end, remote news production workflows, Dalet said.

The core remote editing framework supports advanced proxy editing workflows, mixing of central and local content, with proxy content cached locally to eliminate disruptions due to limited bandwidth. Rendering is offloaded to the Dalet Galaxy xCloud system, optimizing performance to break news faster, the company said.

Dalet Galaxy five offers a new public API that empowers news organizations to customize workflow capabilities and integrations, the company said.

More information is available on the Dalet website.

New York, NY – December 3, 2019 –Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for broadcasters and content professionals, has signed a landmark deal with a prominent North American broadcaster to build its next-generation, borderless multi-platform newsroom on Dalet Galaxy five. The broadcaster’s expansive operation is a 24-hour all-encompassing news service that includes four distinct traditional and digital news entities dedicated to delivering breaking news to more than 90 million homes. The digital transformation will leverage advanced Cloud and AI technologies and move all production and distribution operations to the cohesive Dalet Galaxy five platform, a unified Media Asset Management (MAM), Workflow Orchestration and Editorial environment.

Frederic Roux, vice president of sales, Americas, Dalet, comments on the multi-workflow advantages Dalet Galaxy five offers: “This particular news network is on air 24/7 and what they must deliver is far more diverse than straightforward news shows. They need to produce studio news programs and documentary-style shows, which are much closer to long-form programming workflows and often feature multi-camera productions. In addition, a new kind of storytelling is required when producing for OTT and digital, which adds complexity to the production chain.”

Roux continues, “Dalet Galaxy five is able to facilitate standard news, long-form programming and digital workflows simultaneously. The transition to the platform brings immense efficiency to the operation with limitless options to implement future workflows and iterate quickly with new, digital-first initiatives. The consolidation of systems required to drive these disparate workflows will also help optimize the total cost of ownership for the broadcaster. In this era of fast-changing news consumption behavior, our customers need an agile platform that can adapt quickly to their new business reality. This agility is inherent to the Dalet Galaxy five hybrid architecture.”

Based on a modern, video over IP infrastructure that uses the SMPTE 2110 standard, Dalet Galaxy five platform leverages the elasticity of the Cloud and offers federated production capabilities enabling the news network to effectively scale remote bureaus, field resources, and workflows at will. Cognitive services integrated with Dalet Galaxy five will accelerate the metadata enrichment of content archives making news assets easier to discover and readily available for creating deeper news stories across all platforms. Thanks to the hybrid architecture leveraging AWS, Dalet Galaxy five will provide native disaster recovery capability by offloading on-premise capacity to the Cloud when needed and processing scalability.

“Today’s audiences crave more detailed news information on the viewing platform of their choice, especially for major sporting and political events,” adds Roux. “Broadcasters need a solution that enables them to deliver that deeper coverage whenever and wherever these events take place and create a content journey that engages audiences across all platforms. Dalet Galaxy five industry-leading remote access and editing provides a seamless news gathering and reporting experience enabling journalists to prepare robust multimedia stories whether they are in the newsroom or in the field on assignment.”

Dalet Galaxy five will underpin the entire multi-platform production and delivery workflow, integrating key broadcast systems and propelling game-changing field and bureau workflows with a significantly improved remote editing user experience. Dalet Galaxy five’s orchestration capabilities will facilitate metadata-driven operations that automate complex media processes, distribute tasks and streamline workflows, simplifying the technical hurdles of media handling while simultaneously providing staff greater control over assets and monitoring capacities.

For more information on Dalet Galaxy five and Dalet solutions, please visit www.dalet.com.

About Dalet Digital Media Systems

Dalet solutions and services enable media organisations to create, manage and distribute content faster and more efficiently, fully maximising the value of assets.
