MELBOURNE, Australia—Mediaproxy was the choice of Crown Media Family Networks as it sought to provide compliance monitoring for its main television services, which include the Hallmark Channel and some of its offshoots. The channels are utilizing Mediaproxy’s LogServer logging and monitoring system so they can conform to standards for program content and broadcast quality.

The LogServer technology has been added to Crown Media’s setup at the Globecast Americas Media Centre in Los Angeles. LogServer provides recording and monitoring of Transport Streams over IP channels for both compliance and quality assurance. It works as an As-Run integration basis, with SCTE-35 detection and monitoring and archiving to the AWS S3 cloud platform.

LOS ANGELES—Globecast is partnering with Los Angeles-based Crown Media Family Networks to supply a twofold disaster-recovery system for Crown’s networks, including Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, which together reach more than 150 million homes in the United States. The collaboration is said to safeguard the continual security of the channels, represents a powerful recognition of Globecast Americas’ cutting edge capabilities.

Under its DR plan, Globecast Americas is providing continuous channel origination services using its 24/7 server-based playout system and associated storage, controlled by advanced automation technology. This end-to-end service includes content aggregation and tracking, playout and distribution including 24/7 monitoring and long-term content storage.

Globecast’s DR service includes the encoding and transmission for both channels in the event of a failure. This entails encoding for MPEG-4 HD and DVB-S2 satellite transmission to Crown’s transponder on the AMC-11 satellite.

Crown’s disaster recovery plan is being serviced by Globecast’s Media Center in Los Angeles. The Center boasts the company’s Media Factory technology, which manages ingest, media logistics, transcoding, and order/schedule management for linear and VOD content to satellite, fiber, cable headends, CDN, IP and OTT. It features technology from leading providers centered on the Evertz Mediator platform.

SAN JOSE, CALIF.—Crown Media Family Networks has announced it recently deployed Quantum’s StorNext 5 shared storage and Lattus object storage platforms to manage its video content. As the parent company of the Hallmark Chanel, the Quantum systems will allow Crown Media to provide a highly scalable content management that automatically preserves and protects its digital assets while also having them readily available.

The StorNext system is compatible with Crown Media’s previous Xsan online storage network while also offers seamless integration with Lattus. The Lattus uses object storage technology to create extended online storage with the ability to store up to hundreds of perabytes and provide a scalable and resilient environment. Crown Media’s Lattus configuration spreads content between two locations in Los Angeles and Denver.

When content is no longer actively being used, the StorNext system moves it from online storage to Lattus object storage while continuing to provide access through the StorNext file system and Levels Beyond Reach Engine.
