MUNICH—Cinegy will showcase its all-new Cinegy Encode 1000—designed to deliver professional-grade encoding in a compact form factor—at ISE 2025, set for Feb. 4-7 in Barcelona.

Well-suited for fixed and mobile installations, the Encode 1000 handles a wide range of signals from NDI and SMPTE ST 2110 to traditional SDI. The portable unit supports a variety of applications across enterprise, government, hospitality and live-event production, Cinegy said.

The Cinegy Encode 1000 is 7.87 by 7.87 by 1.96 inches (20 by 20 by 5 centimeters) and weighs 4.4 pounds (2 kilograms). It offers four bidirectional 12G SDI ports and is powered by an Intel i9-1390H processor. The encoder handles up to four simultaneous UHD streams while maintaining broadcast quality standards, the company said.

Cinegy will also make the ISE debut of its Cinegize remote access solution, which it says offers ultralow latency performance previously only available with hardware IP KVM systems. Cinegize supports resolutions up to 8K with comprehensive color space options, it said.

Cinegize delivers sub-20ms latency in LAN environments and sub-100ms over WAN. This enterprise-ready solution features GPU optimization for NVIDIA, AMD and Intel with built-in security encryption, it said.

The company will also feature its Cinegy Multiviewer. A single instance can monitor hundreds of feeds across multiple displays, supporting formats from traditional SDI to cutting-edge IP standards including NDI, SRT, and SMPTE 2110.

MUNICH, Germany—Cinegy has released the latest version of its Cinecoder video codec software-development kit (SDK), which addresses a problem that’s faced the TV and broadcast industries since NVIDIA ended H.264 interlace support.

For years, software developers and solutions vendors have used the H.264 encoding capabilities of NVIDIA GPUs, which became a cornerstone of many media industry solutions, the company said.

With NVIDIA’s introduction of the Turing series of GPUs, the company ended H.264 interlace support. While this initially caused issues, the availability of the previous Pascal generation of NVIDIA cards made the situation manageable, Cinegy said.

However, Pascal-based hardware availability has now ended, and these cards no longer receive NVIDIA driver updates, significantly impacting many broadcast workflows.

Cinegy's latest Cinecoder SDK version 4.22 addresses the situation by enabling interlace H.264 encoding using Turing, Ampere and Ada Lovelace (current) generation NVIDIA GPU cards. This development benefits the broadcast and Media & Entertainment industries, which still deliver most of their content in this format, it said.

Current generation NVIDIA cards now offer higher performance, increased encoding throughput and improved energy efficiency, while newer cloud instances provide better value for money with up-to-date NVIDIA drivers, it said.

"This is a great achievement and at the same time a huge relief to all of us," Cinegy Chief Technology Officer Jan Weigner said. "Our customers were really struggling to find a solution, especially after the driver support for the Pascal-based cards ended. Now new NVIDIA cards can be used for H.264 interlace encoding, achieving much better performance. Also, when looking at cloud deployments, we do not have to limit ourselves to using AWS G3 instances, which were the AWS instances with Pascal series GPUs."

Benchmarks using standard test clips show that the Cinecoder interlace H.264 encoder for NVIDIA GPUs creates the same or better-quality output than the original NVIDIA Pascal series hardware encoder, the company said.

The encode performance of Ada Lovelace-based NVIDIA GPUs, the current NVIDIA generation, is around 500 frames per second (FPS) for H.264 1080i per NVENC encoder unit. This means that cards with two NVENC units, such as the RTX 4070 Ti, RTX 4070 Ti Super, RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 (or their professional counterparts like the RTX 4000 ADA and up), can encode around 1000 FPS, Cinegy said.

Cinegy's Cinecoder SDK can be licensed specifically for enabling NVIDIA GPU H.264 interlace encoding or for all additional encoding, decoding and media handling features. It is also home to Cinegy's proprietary Daniel2 codec, offering more than 10,000 FPS 4K encode and 30,000 FPS 4K decode capabilities, the company said.

MUNICH—Cinegy has announced that it will feature the latest version of its software-based Cinegy Multiviewer at the 2024 NAB Show, April 13-17, in Las Vegas.

A single instance of the multiviewer software, used around the world by broadcasters, the professional AV community, government and enterprise, can monitor, analyze and display hundreds of incoming feeds on one or multiple screens and optionally also stream the output in a range of IP streaming formats, the company said.

Supported input formats range from traditional SDI and DVB/ATSC transport streams to now common IP formats, such as NDI, SRT and SMPTE 2110, it said.

Focusing on features like GPU acceleration capabilities, Cinegy optimizes performance by reducing server CPU load and increasing scalability. This approach increases efficiency, maximizes hardware performance, reduces energy demand and protects investment, making the solution more sustainable, it said.

Cinegy Multiviewer has offered GPU acceleration using NVIDIA GPUs for many years. Now at the request of many customers with version 24.2 of Cinegy Multiviewer, AMD GPU acceleration is supported as is the mixed use of NVIDIA and AMD GPUs in one system, the company said.

Cinegy Multiviewer is a widely used solution for professional NDI monitoring. NDI sources are not always broadcast standard signals. To address the challenges posed by non-standard NDI feeds and to deliver a smooth and efficient monitoring experience, Cinegy Multiviewer 24.2 now offers an NDI source tolerance mode to make integrating these sources easy, it said.

The Remote Control API within Cinegy Multiviewer 24.2 has been enhanced with a focus placed on layout manipulation to allow users to navigate their monitoring workflows more precisely. The company also has added a WebSocket Preview feature that permits users to preview streams (or entire Multiviewer screens) with low latency directly within a web browser on any internet connection without the need for additional plug-ins and software, it said.

Automatic and accurate GPU identification and simple selection via drop-down menus help simplify assigning resources and managing hardware setup. In the same way GPU resources can be assigned, they can be assigned for output stream encoding for remote stream delivery, it said.

Cinegy Multiviewer 24.2 supports SMPTE ST 2110 devices as input sources, such as cards from partner vendors like Deltacast and AJA Video as well as Blackmagic’s Decklink IP.

The Cinegy team will be demoing a host of new features that are designed to improve day-to-day operations for the broadcast and adjacent markets. These enhancements, which are based on user feedback, will make the Cinegy products more powerful, easier to use and more efficient in terms of energy and costs, the company said.  

“Cinegy can deliver 8k ingest, playout and production on a laptop, including all the functions you can think of that used to require the connection of endless boxes,” said Jan Weigner, managing director of Cinegy. “Nowadays, all that’s needed is a single optimized software pipeline on one CPU with a GPU as accelerator. More specifically, the company reported that the recent updates within the Cinegy Air 24.1 playout platform will provide more operational security by preventing monitoring activities from unintentionally interfering with live output. An easy-to-access enable/disable setting in the Air GUI prevents operators from accidentally launching items or skipping them at the wrong time, for example.  

The user interface is also more intuitive and secure, allowing operators to identify different categories of content in the playout timeline without needing to zoom in. In addition, Cinegy Air 24.1 now incorporates the RossTalk protocol in the secondary event menu, making it easy to program switchers and routers from Ross Video. This allows operators to perform simple or sophisticated actions as part of an automated event, making the final output smoother and more engaging.  

Also new at NAB 2024 is Cinegy Capture 24.1, the renowned Cinegy ingest platform that replaces the many ingest and transcode boxes and wires that used to be required to deliver this result in mixed-environment productions. This updated version improves the convenience and usability of the product, making it more stable, which will be of particular interest to broadcasters delivering live, high-value, high-stakes entertainment and sporting events. The number and brands of supported GPUs that can be used to offload encoding operations has been expanded by adding AMD and Intel GPUs support. 

In addition, capture gang control has been enhanced, allowing the group management of many recording engines with the click of a single button. Other features include: a reset error information function, the introduction of the “strict format” option for MPEG-TS and NewTek NDI sources, the ability to use the Avid DNxHR codec as a proxy UHD format with automatic downscaling to 720p resolution, as well as added support for DNxHR in MXF OP1a in the archive-based templates (added bit depth conversion from 10-bit to 8-bit for Avid DNxHR encoder and improved NDI reception stability). To round it off Capture now also supports BlackMagic’s Decklink IP cards providing an additional way to ingest SMPTE ST-2110 video feeds. 

Cinegy Multiviewer 24.2 will also make its debut at the show. This long-awaited version stands on the shoulders of decades worth of experience and customer feedback, taking broadcast monitoring technology another step forward. Meticulously fine-tuned, this release comes with a host of new features, bug fixes and codebase-related optimizations.  

These include support for AMD GPU acceleration, expanding the range of compatible hardware and providing users with greater power, choice and flexibility with Intel GPU support on the cards for the next release. Also available is an NDI source tolerance mode, allowing users to monitor a broader range of sources, even those that deviate from industry standards; enhanced remote-control API to help users monitor their workflows more precisely; further GPU acceleration to optimize performance and efficiency, enabling users to maximize the power of their hardware. Blackmagic Decklink IP card support has also been added to Cinegy Multiviewer as one of the supported SMPTE ST-2110 devices.

MUNICH—Cinegy GmbH has announced that it provided all the core functionality for a new broadcast center for the TV and Radio Complex of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (PTRK). 

The project, led by DNK Kazakhstan, Cinegy’s systems integration partner in Kazakhstan, brings all aspects of two major channels – Jibek Joly TV and Silk Way – into a new building in Almaty. 

Jibek Joly and the international service Silk Way previously were based in separate locations and used a variety of systems for production and playout. In moving to a new headquarters, the aim was to provide a common working environment for news, production, playout and archiving. PTRK had some experience with Cinegy software, and the solution is unique in being able to provide everything needed in a single environment, the companies said. 

Cinegy solutions are also widely used at other broadcasters in Kazakhstan, which also gave PTRK confidence that the technology is readily supported. Finally, the single-source solution promises to be cost-effective over the lifetime of the system. 

“One of the critical advantages of Cinegy is that it is very user friendly,” said Yernar Ibragimov, CTO of PTRK. “The intuitive design makes the system easy and efficient, significantly speeding up the training process for new employees. Today about 100 Cinegy users work simultaneously, and we produce as much as 40 hours of content daily.” 

DNK Kazakhstan developed a proof-of-concept system for PTRK, then supplied all the hardware and software licenses for the full system. It includes Cinegy Air PRO for playout, Cinegy Convert PRO for signal processing, plus Cinegy Multiviewer, Cinegy Route, Cinegy Prompter and Cinegy Archive Enterprise. More than 75 Cinegy Desktop licenses are also included. 

“With Cinegy, the customer can handle all content production stages in a single infrastructure,” said Mike Efimov, international sales manager for Cinegy. “This allows clients to focus on the creative aspects without worrying about the complexities of integrating different systems.” 

“What it means for the production and broadcast teams within PTRK is efficiency,” Efimov added. “By eliminating the need to hand work off from one system to another, it speeds everything from editing to publishing. It also means you do not need to store content in multiple locations, so media management and storage is much more efficient, saving the cost of hardware and the space to operate it.” 

PTRK and its broadcast channels moved into the new center earlier in 2023 and have been reliant on the Cinegy integrated solution since then. 

Cinegy GmbH, has announced that during IBC2023 it will be showcasing media solutions that deliver rich functionality and address environmental concerns.

During IBC2023 in September 15 to 18 at its stand 7.A01, the provider of software technology for digital video processing, asset management, video compression and automation, and playout, said that it will be showing a ultra-optimized software stack that offers clients very low energy consumption. 

Drawing on the benefits of its partnership with Supermicro, Cinegy said it will be demonstrating this by running a staggering 256 channels of HD playout using Cinegy Air software from a single 4RU server. With a power consumption of around 1500W, that equates to consumption of less than 6W for per complete playout channel, a huge reduction in carbon footprint. 

In addition, Cinegy said it is delivering huge performance in a compact form with the Micro OBVAN demonstration. That demo shows a complete four camera broadcast system fitted in the trunk of a Microlino car. The Microlino is a tiny electric town car, only 2.5m long and weighing just 500kg. Its trunk is a tiny 230 liters, yet Cinegy has put all the hardware and software for production and delivery into it, including 5G connectivity, drawing power from the Microlino’s traction batteries. 

“Our goal when developing all our products has been to create high functionality in very compact software,” said Jan Weigner, managing director of Cinegy. “Delivering high performance with the minimum of processor resources makes for high availability systems in a low physical footprint, but it also means that the continuing costs of running the installation – including power and air conditioning – are also minimized.”

The company also stressed that IBC2023 will see the introduction of enhanced functionality across all of Cinegy’s key products, including Cinegy Air multi-channel playout, Cinegy Multiviewer and Cinegy Capture for ingest. 

These continuing enhancements reflect the company’s continued close relationships with broadcasters and media enterprises around the world who rely on Cinegy software. The greatly enhanced subtitling capabilities in Cinegy Air, for example, were developed in response to a requirement from a major French broadcaster, the company explained. 

Cinegy will also be showing a new tool, Cinegize, which provides remote control of graphics and broadcast equipment with features that are critical for broadcast applications: frame accuracy, color fidelity and low latency. 

Cinegize can connect over any fabric, across a room or across the world. It is standards-based, so can use encapsulated data streams like SRT for remote connectivity, and for high bandwidth streams it can use the Cinegy Daniel2 codec providing very high quality, right up to lossless. 

“We see Cinegize as a utility,” Weigner said, “which is why we are making it available free of charge. It is open, so you can use it to access any suitable software on any remote device, but we hope that in time users will recognize the need to organize and manage the content, which is where our solutions excel.”

“The media market grows ever more crowded and competitive,” Weigner added. “Our products are designed to scale with the user, whether that is the need to move from HD to 4k or even 8k, or the need to add more channels and sub-channels, or the need to link remote workers and locations with rapidly growing content stores.

MUNICH—Cinegy has released Cinegy Air v22.12, a major upgrade on the current version. The new version, part of Cinegy’s rolling development program, also includes an update to the graphics and branding engine, now called Cinegy Title. 

“All the enhancements we are introducing in this major new release are driven by feedback from our users,” said Simon Pilbeam, product manager at Cinegy. “Our goal has always been to create a powerful, flexible, practical solution that provided the technology before you even knew you needed it, and that drives our development strategy, in areas like our support of high resolution and high dynamic range Ultra HD.” 

Reflecting the growing interest in Ultra HD, Cinegy Air can now play out both HDR and SDR sources through an HLG Air engine, with the ability to select conversion LUTs per item. LUTs are applied automatically where possible, and can be manually selected from drop down options within the playlist tab. The playout engine can now also create a simulcast SDR stream from a primary HDR engine, the company reported. 

In addition, Cinegy Air can now generate Kantar audio watermarks for audience measurement and content protection, the company said. Kantar Media content tracking is used by hundreds of broadcast networks around the world.

Other new functionality includes enhanced preview playout for playlist verification. For multichannel operators Air Playlist Editor can now use audio matrix and character generator settings across multiple playlists, ensuring consistency across regional variations, for example. Cinegy Air now also supports the Rosstalk Protocol, to seamlessly control routers and other hardware from within the playlist. 

The rebranded Cinegy Title has also been updated, with a whole host of user interface refinements as well as stunning new graphics tools like auto expanding text boxes with background plates and the ability to create large composite backgrounds from multiple tiles of small images, the company said. 

The new versions of Cinegy Air and Cinegy Title are available to download for licensed users of the products. The Cinegy Air suite of products includes Cinegy Air, Cinegy Air PRO (including Cinegy Title) and Cinegy Air ULTIMATE (including Cinegy Title and one channel of Cinegy Subtitle) for playout, graphics and subtitling.

MUNICH, Germany—Cinegy has introduced Cinegy Route v22.10 designed to manage media workflows in IP-based infrastructures by providing a centralized director for high volumes of content streams.

The new release offers functional and user-experience enhancements. The company has moved the code base for the latest version to a 64-bit architecture and makes greater use of GPUs in client workstations.

Developed in response to user feedback, Cinegy Route v22.10 also offers stream improvements, including support for encrypted Secure, Reliable Transport (SRT) sources and the ability to play back live HEVC streams in the Cinegy Route preview player, giving any workstation confidence monitoring of any stream under its control. It also provides comprehensive support for secondary events, allowing them to be clean switched in the Cinegy Event Manager under the control of Cinegy Route, the company said.

The company also has transformed the user interface with high DPI mode for Ultra HD screens, which makes fine detail comfortable to view. UX improvements include more logical menu structures, “always on top” mode for the Cinegy Route Browser and new functionality like a mute button in the player view and a double click to open or collapse player windows, it said.

“Our users are building ever more extensive workflows in their IP networks, with large numbers of sources and destinations, transcoding and processing, audio shuffling and mixing and much more. LONDON—Rise, an advocacy group for gender diversity in media technology, has named Daniella Weigner, co-founder and managing director of Cinegy GmbH, as the recipient of the 2022 Woman of the Year Award. She will receive her award during the Rise Awards ceremony on Nov. 30.

The Woman of the Year, sponsored by Zixi, is selected by Rise Advisory Boards and presented to an extraordinary and inspirational woman who has made a significant contribution within her field.

The Rise announcement said Weigner has helped create a company that “puts family at its heart and her compassionate leadership proved invaluable to staff when the Ukraine war broke out. Under her guidance, Daniella and members of the Cinegy management team travelled to Ukraine to bring staff and their families back to Munich.”

According to the release, with the help of Sonya Chakarova and Phillip Covell, Weigner brought together more than 400 broadcast and media companies and individuals to bring resources and hardware to Ukrainian TV channels and media outlets so they could stay on air during the ongoing conflict.

Weigner, said: “I am in the company of so many inspiring women in an amazing industry and am very grateful to be recognized by Rise, especially for its acknowledgement of the importance of looking after our team, which was severely impacted by the war in Ukraine.

Butler—who was Sr. Director for Media Management & Post Production at MLB Network, where he had oversight of building the infrastructure for the initial launch of the network along with subsequent upgrades and broadcast technology deployments—has also served in senior sales roles with technology vendors such as Grass Valley, EMC, and SeaChange International as well as at NBC. He received two Emmy Awards while at NBC, and seven Emmy Awards and one Edison Award while at MLB Network.

MUNICH, Germany—Brazilian IT media services company, MDotti Tecnologia, has chosen Cinegy Capture PRO for a major upgrade it has delivered to Sistema Brasileiro de Televisão (SBT), Brazil’s second largest broadcaster.

The companies reported that the broadcaster has adopted a flexible rental model to rent licenses to support 16 channels of ingest, with an additional two channels dedicated to its podcasts and gaming services. SBT is also planning to further expand its ingest capability to support 24 channels to meet growing demand for new and existing content services.

The system integrates seamlessly with SBT’s existing production environment and delivers cost-effective, centralized ingest. Operating as a completely independent ingest tool, Cinegy Capture PRO can be used as an application by any user on the network – thanks to the simple yet powerful cross-platform control client – and runs on standard computer hardware.  

The project is a continuation of a longstanding partnership between Cinegy and MDotti. The latter has been Cinegy’s primary distributor in Brazil since 2019, delivering system design and installation for some of the region’s biggest names in media and entertainment.

OTTAWA—The Three Cs: creativity, the cloud, and Covid, are among the many trends driving the development of newsroom graphics and virtual sets today. “Given the situation with Covid, the option for many media organizations was either remote virtual production or not producing a show,” said Michael Geissler, CEO of Mo-Sys Engineering, a camera tracking/broadcast robotics provider.

And don’t forget a fourth “C,” cost-effectiveness. “The beauty of broadcast graphics and virtual sets lies in how they allow newscasters to do more with less and not have their creativity limited by their location or budget,” said Bob Caniglia, Blackmagic Design’s Director of Sales Operations, Americas. (The company’s ATEM Mini line of live production switchers is aimed at broadcasters pivoting to remote and hybrid workflows.)

Digital Brings Freedom
Today’s newsroom graphics are more complex, colorful, and animated than ever. And you can thank digital composition and the cloud for making this progress possible, according to Mike Ward, head of marketing with Singular.live, which offers cloud-based graphics solutions for broadcast.

“The biggest trends in newsroom graphics are all digital, moving away from linear hardware-based systems to more flexible, scalable cloud-native solutions,” Ward told TV Tech. “Not only do these solutions offer greater scalability in terms of creating multiple outputs, but they can quickly and easily adapt to increases—or decreases—in staff. Now reporters, producers and technical staff can operate systems literally from anywhere without the need to ship or transport dedicated hardware.”

Virtual Goes from Sets to Production
With their ability to render complex broadcast environments using economical green-tinted physical sets or even just backdrops, virtual sets have been a money-saving boon for TV newsrooms for years.

“This is why the trend towards replacing physical sets with virtual sets started a long time ago,” said Raul Alba, Avid’s Director of Media Solutions. (Avid’s Maestro | News is a complete news graphics package that is integrated with Media Composer and third-party news automation systems.) “Some regions of the world have been bolder in their adoption of this technology. One shining example is Latin America, which embraced virtual sets 15 years ago.”

In 2020, virtual sets came to the rescue when Covid isolation forced on-air talent and reporters to broadcast from home via the web. Equipped with their own green screens and high-quality streaming cameras, these people proved just how useful virtual sets are for remote production, much to the surprise of many skeptical broadcasters.

“During the pandemic, many newsrooms were forced into situations where their traditional approaches were no longer viable, so they took the plunge and quickly realized there are affordable and flexible tools to make virtual sets a reality in or outside the studio,” Caniglia observed. “Now that broadcasters have seen these benefits, they want more.”

“During Covid, everyone had to conduct business from their home offices. As a result, our customers achieved incredible effects using NDI, PTZ cameras, and Vizrt Engine 4 integrated with Unreal Engine 4, where multiple presenters are composited into the same virtual set,” said Ray Ratliff, AMECS Technical Business Development Lead at Vizrt. “We are really only at the beginning of XR workflows, and many of these now popular technologies will only get better and further blend virtual reality and reality.”

The trend of integrating video game-rendering technology into virtual set platforms is certainly enhancing the visual quality of these graphics systems. In fact, “the biggest change for the virtual set market has been the ‘democratization’ of the space by players such as Epic Games’ Unreal engine and Unity with their Unity Engine entering this space massively,” said Jan Weigner, managing director for Cinegy. (Cinegy enables multichannel playout for broadcasters.) “The capabilities of these gaming engines have been extended dramatically for the requirements of real- time media production.”

This upscaling of virtual set production quality couldn’t have come at a better time. Viewers are now accustomed to the crystal-clear resolution of 4K video on their TV screens, and they expect everything to look this good, from Marvel movies to the local 6:00 news.

“As audiences become increasingly discerning, TV newscasts must deliver flawless results, requiring background graphics to be rendered in ever higher resolutions,” Geissler noted. “This in turn has seen strong momentum behind the move towards virtual production, and in particular from virtual sets based around green screens to more immersive LED volume-based physical production sets that allow greater integration between augmented and virtual reality elements, along with live action.”

More Immersive
That’s the irony of 4K: In some cases, it is motivating broadcasters to move away from virtual and back to physical sets.

“The biggest change in this market has been the massive move from virtual sets to immersive sets using ever larger LED walls,” said Weigner. “As a result, ‘background graphics’ now have to be rendered in 4K, 8K or even higher resolution, while for news at least, the 3D rendering requirement has gone. Modern newsroom graphics software is now expected to be able to handle the automatic generation of these 8K+ backgrounds and to be able to play multiple UHD or 8K clips simultaneously as part of the graphics scenes.”

At the same time, the high cost of LED walls will have to fall substantially for this kind of immersive physical studio to become more mainstream.

“The solution might be a combination of immersive LED screens, which helps with realistic lighting and reflections but only with a limited resolution, to then replace the background with a fully rendered texture with the help of AI for super-sampling and uprezzing [scaling up without artifacts],” Weigner said. “This would allow the usage of lower-resolution LED walls but maintain the immersive lighting and human interaction advantage over the ‘old green screen VR approach.”

All of these trends point to the continuing challenge of broadcasters to provide ever more detailed and realistic newsroom graphics and virtual sets to viewers.

MUNICH, Germany—Brazilian IT media services company, MDotti Tecnologia, has created a dedicated workflow around Cinegy Capture PRO to support ingest for São Paulo-based television network Rede Bandeirantes’ coverage of the Tokyo Games. 

Cinegy Capture PRO simultaneously delivers 12 channels of ingest directly to a ZBoox shared storage, allowing the production team to access and edit clips via Adobe Premiere Pro workstations while live feeds are still being ingested. 

“We researched many solutions and Cinegy Capture PRO was the one that met all our needs, giving us the reliable ingest, multi-destination and collaborative capability that are essential when managing a project of this magnitude,” explained Lucas Maia, operations director at MDotti Tecnologia. “The licence rental model that Cinegy offers also fits to our needs allowing us to spin up capability for events as needed. Supporting the live event from Tokyo would not have been possible with Rede Bandeirantes’ existing capability so renting the workflow for the event allowed us to deliver an effective, but low-cost solution.” 

MDotti Tecnologia created a temporary, parallel infrastructure to handle the Games removing the need for Rede Bandeirantes to redirect any of its existing infrastructure, which is already at capacity, to support the event. 

Using the system, the Rede Bandeirantes team is able to record to multiple storage systems simultaneously, ingest live streams in real time XDCAM with edit while ingest capability. Cinegy Capture PRO is also hardware agnostic, allowing it to work seamlessly with MDotti’s regular workstation of choice.

MUNICH, Germany—Cinegy GmbH has announced it is releasing a new version of its Cinegy Multiviewer platform, version 15.2.

Cinegy Multiviewer 15.2 is designed for use both on-premise and for remote monitoring applications. It can display and analyze signals from satellites, camera feeds, playout devices and other local or remote sources, raising alerts for detected signal problems. The video streams can be received over IP, eg UDP/RTP, NDI, SRT via Ethernet or using standard SDI cards.

New features for v15.2 include NDI support, using Cinegy Encode as an SDI output option, SRT encapsulated IP input and output stream inputs and support for encrypted SRT streaming on input. There is also support for 8K workflows via IP or SDL and integration with Cinegy’s Daniel2 technology.

BOSTON & MUNICH, Germany—Adobe is partnering with both Cinegy and Editshare on new technologies that support remote production and editing workflows, according to separate press releases from each company.

Cinegy’s collaboration with Adobe has resulted in the launch of Turbocut, an Adobe CC plug-in designed to accelerate the editing of H.264/HEVC by utilizing NVividia GPU’s hardware decoder. Turbocut also brings Cinegy’s Daniel2 video codec to Adobe CC, designed for making 8K resolutions or higher easier to edit, per Cinegy.

EditShare, meanwhile, has an integrated system with Adobe that connects editing workflows into a wider media ecosystem with deep metadata tracking and workflow automation either on-premise, in a hybrid configuration or as a cloud-based workflow.

There is also the new Flow panel from EditShare for Adobe Premiere Pro that is designed to transform content management, proxy and remote editing, and review and approval workflows for editors. Flow also offers an advanced proxy-based workflow with support for more than 500 codecs, which ties into Cinegy’s partnership with Adobe.

There is also the EFS open storage platform that is meant to enhance collaborative editing with full support for project-locking for Productions in Premiere Pro, allowing Premiere Pro to handle a large number of assets.

IBC 2019, 13-17 September, Stand 7.A01: Cinegy, the global leader for broadcast playout software in the cloud, has announced that it will showcase the full scope of its 8K recording, capture, archive, and encoding capabilities during IBC 2019.

On its IBC stand, Cinegy will feature the eye-popping Sharp 8M-B80AX1E 8K displays, the first 80-inch 8K professional display to be mass produced. The Sharp 8M-B80AX1E has 33 million pixels (7680 x 4320), four times that of 4K UHD and sixteen times the resolution of full HD.

IBC 2019, 13-17 September, Hall 7 Stand A01: Cinegy, the global leader for broadcast playout software on premise, hybrid and in the cloud, will demonstrate the multiple advantages of the inclusion of Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) as well as the 8K capabilities of its entire product range at IBC 2019.

Cinegy Head of Product Management Lewis Kirkaldie said, “SRT is an extra bit of magic that breaks the restrictive chains of having to establish connectivity by plugging in a cable somewhere. Through SRT, the ability to ensure a signal gets to and from where it needs to be is now both feasible and widely available.

LAS VEGAS—Cinegy is planting its flag in the 8K market, announcing that all of its products, both established and new, are now 8K capable. The products, which can also be used for SD, HD, 4K/UHD formats, and deal with HDR, will be on display at the 2019 NAB Show.

Specifically at the show, Cinegy will show the newly 8K-capable Cinegy Multiviewer, Cinegy Air PRO playout and Capture PRO ingest products.

There are some other new features for these products that will be featured at the show. Cinegy Multiviewer has received an updated GPU optimization, for instance.Increased scalability and efficiency, meanwhile, have been provided to the Cinegy Air Pro and Capture Pro systems. For the Capture Pro, this enables it to capture 8K in 10-bit at up to 60 fps as well as capturing four channels of UHD/4K.

Cinegy CTO Jan Weigner also mentions the Daniel2 GPO codec in the company’s press release, saying that its can be used to record 8K or multiple channels of UHD.

MUNICH—Microsoft Azure users will now have access to Cinegy’s Air Cloud Pack, as the company has announced it is making it available on the Microsoft marketplace. The Cinegy Air Cloud Pack consists of the Cinegy Air Pro Bundle and Cinegy Multiviewer.

Cinegy Air Pro

Air Pro consists of a control panel and playout engine. The control panel features an interface for control of one or more playout channels connected via TCP/IP. The Cinegy Air Pro playout engine executes the playlist provided to it and renders video and audio to air.

The Cinegy Multiviewer enables broadcasters and production houses to receive RTP/UDP streams via Ethernet and locally or remotely monitor those streams. An analysis and alert system is also available that detects signal problems as they occur.

The Cinegy Air Cloud Pack is now available on the Microsoft Azure marketplace.

This is paralleled with improvements to Cinegy Desktop, a universal production tool that provides real-time access to media in Cinegy Archive along with a powerful suite of tools for logging and editing, and an almost limitless ability to import and export media to third-party non-linear editing and automation systems. Cinegy Desktop now includes substantial upgrades to the effects available to the timeline sub-system, along with an all-new GUI design and native x64 support.

The Multiviewer 12 also has the ability to share RAM with other Cinegy software running on the same machine. User can create a machine-wide frame buffer and share that output with any Cinegy software application running on the system.

Additional features of the new system include Dolby encoding; reactive PPM; loudness measurement; telemetry for loudness measurement; metadata display regarding stream types; and all major captioning formats with teletext decoding.

And with its built-in loudness limiter, Dolby E encoding and decoding, there’s no need for external devices or additional software to perform compliance testing, encoding, decoding or subtitling. Since Cinegy Air PRO integrates HEVC stream encoding with high-end Nvidia graphics cards, HEVC and H.264 encoding can be offloaded onto the Nvidia GPU.

Also at the booth will be Cinegy News, an all-in-one news production package that now includes Cinegy Archive and Cinegy Desktop. Designed to get news to air quickly, Cinegy News provides automated news feed handling, writing, rundown creation and teleprompter functions. It also integrates video and audio editing, voiceover recording, graphics creation, template-based titling and more into a single package.

AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS—At the 2016 IBC Show, Cinegy will demonstrate 8K versions of its capture, playout, production and archive management software.

Cinegy says its existing customer base has smoothly migrated from SD to HD and is now seeing some repeat the same process into 4K. The German based provider of broadcast technology says it is previewing its 8K products at IBC to allow early adopters to start trialing now.

“While 8K may be still a moonshot for many, demonstrating just how easy it can be helps underscore our future-proofing message, i.e., there is an affordable answer today that costs the same for SD, HD, 4K, and, if you wish, 8K,” said Jan Weigner, Cinegy CTO and Co-founder.

The core of Cinegy’s 8K IBC demo is the DANIEL2 GPU video codec for acquisition and production, designed for recording from camera sources, editing, post-production, and playout.

Also to be shown at IBC, “Cinegy as a Service,” touted as a hardware-free way to bring television to cloud-based services.

MUNICH—The first step in what the company is calling its “Cinegy as a Service” initiative, Cinergy has announced that its Air Pro platform will now be available on the Amazon Web Services Marketplace. Cinegy plans to move all of its software technology to the AWS Marketplace over time.

Cinegy Air Pro is a real-time playout server with multi-channel broadcast automation software for SD and HD playout. It also provides EAS, Nielsen watermarking and built-in channel branding to control multiple channels that air identical content but need regionalized commercials and branding. The ability to mix codecs, resolutions and aspect ratios in a single playlist are also available. Air Pro software is hosted on AWS by using GPU interfaces.

The “Cinegy as a Service” initiative requires no upfront investment, according to the company. Registration is handled through the AWS Marketplace.
