MELVILLE, N.Y.—Chyron has released Chyron Weather 2.4 with an enhanced DataFlow module, offering a managed framework of modern open-source tools designed for future-proof workflows, third-party Climate Data Operators (CDO) integration and expanded Time Referencing capabilities to increase data flexibility and smarter weather data validation to ensure accuracy and reliability.

"This release was fully designed based on customer insights. We listened carefully to their needs, analyzed their workflow, and, as a result, developed exciting new functionalities to elevate their weather storytelling," said Michael Harter, product manager of Chyron Weather. "We are deeply grateful for the close relationship we have with our clients, since their valuable feedback contributes to our development plans and helps make our weather solution more flexible."

Weather 2.4 supports future-proof workflows via a managed framework of modern open-source tools integrated into DataFlow, helping teams to stay aligned with current and future industry standards. The release includes integration with Climate Data Operators (CDO). This allows users to process complex climate and meteorological data, such as GRIB and NetCDF files, directly from the same Weather platform.

Since CDO versions are packaged and managed by Chyron, teams can reduce setup time and avoid manual installation. Another improvement is extended time referencing capabilities, which provide more flexible file and folder pattern configuration to facilitate data ingestion from providers with inconsistent or non-standard naming conventions. Chyron Weather can identify available data, extract the relevant date and time information, and map it automatically to the standard weather timeline.

Future updates will add support for ImageMagick and FFmpeg for image and video conversion. The managed framework helps ensure users work with the same versions and settings, especially valuable in hub-and-spoke workflows.

Smarter weather data validation is now available via the new File Integrity Validator feature. Automated checking and gating nodes continuously monitor incoming data, trigger alerts and route files to quarantine if they don't meet quality standards (based on user-defined thresholds). This helps ensure data-driven graphics are based on accurate inputs, delivering air-ready weather visuals.

More information is available on the company’s website.

MONTREAL—ChyronHego has selected Matrox QuadHead2Go multimonitor controller for its Prime Video Wall integrated graphics authoring and video playout solution for broadcast video wall applications, Matrox has announced.

The combination enables studio set designers to create odd- and ultra-sized video walls of any size, shape or pixel count.

“The modern broadcast studio has changed, and video walls have played an integral role in that upgrade,” said Francesco Scartozzi, vice president of sales and business development at Matrox broadcast and media group. “Video walls provide the perfect canvas to deliver stunning graphics and video content to engage audiences like never before. It is now a critical part of the studio design and production process as it is about showcasing one’s brand.”

Prime Video Wall is a resolution-agnostic, real-time graphics application. It integrates seamlessly with QuadHead2Go multimonitor controllers to synchronize any number of pixels to multiple outputs.

By capturing a single 4K channel feed from the Prime Video Walls platform, QuadHead2Go instantly supports up to four standard and non-standard aspect ratio video monitors. Prime Video Wall sub-channel technology allows users to define custom-sized areas of a larger output channel and playout graphics to any position on any of the screens in any order, the company said.

“Video walls are the backdrop in studios but are often brought to the forefront if done properly,” said Olivier Cohen, senior vice president of marketing at ChyronHego. “Content producers are incorporating these large or uniquely-shaped display configurations to complement and enhance storylines ….”

Together the technologies offer “the simplest and most visually enriching experience possible,” said Cohen, adding that ChyronHego is “happy to recommend” the QuadHead2Go to its broadcast system integrators.

More information is available on the ChyronHego and Matrox websites.

MELVILLE, N.Y.—ChyronHego is rolling out the latest version of its Prime graphics platform, Prime 3.7. The primary focus of this iteration of the platform, according to ChyronHego, is to meet the expectations of operators in live playout environments.

One of the key features of the Prime 3.7 is the integration with the new Chyron Classic Keyboard, which will enable users to drive Prime with the special keys and keyboard shortcuts available through the Chyron Classic Keyboard, per ChyronHego. With additional options to configure and customize keyboard shortcuts through the Prime interface, this should enable faster live playout.

Operators can now save .psk and .dsk files with Prime 3.7 to keep, recall or transfer preferred shortcut key settings for playout and design. Graphics can also be saved as .tiff, .png or .jpg for reference or use off the system. There is also new file zipping and file management functionality.

In addition, operators can now tab to different areas of the user interface and easily see the next message set to cue to a channel, even as they switch from one channel to another.

For more information, visit www.chyronhego.com.

MELVILLE, N.Y.—ChyronHego has promoted Jennifer Paonessa to director of the company’s new Venues Solutions division. The new division focuses on custom, workflow-driven graphics solutions to deliver an end-to-end sports production ecosystem that combines traditional LED content control, advanced graphics creation, virtual and data visuals to boost fan engagement and team branding.

"Jenn has a great understanding of the sports and live events business, particularly on the venue side, and she's the perfect person to lead our new Venues Solutions division," said Ariel Garcia, CEO at ChyronHego. “She understands how content can drive emotional connection to a game or event, and she works hard to give customers the tools and features they need to generate content that resonates with their stakeholders."

Paonessa began her career in the LED and digital signage world, where she saw the technology evolve into the sophisticated systems that have become central to the fan experience in today's sports and entertainment venues. Through work in control rooms and production trucks, she gained experience with graphics on the broadcast side. More recently, while at Learfield IMG, she facilitated sponsorship deals in the collegiate sports arena and developed partnerships in the growing area of stats and data integration. Since joining ChyronHego in 2019, she has played an important role in building the company's in-venue solutions business.

Among the ways that Paint can be used are creating graphical illustrated replays. This new course supports industry professionals in acquiring and updating the skills for using the Paint platform.

The ChyronHego Academy course is online and self-paced, developed by product experts with professional field experience. Participants will use a trial version of Paint to work on practical exercises and quizzes. When the course is successfully completed, operators can earn ChyronHego Academy certification by submitting a professional recommendation confirming they have demonstrated their Paint skills in a real-world environment.

“Telestration traditionally has been considered a specialized and complex tool that only a limited pool of specialists can use successfully,” said Carol Bettencourt, director of product marketing at ChyronHego. “Easy to learn and use, Paint takes the mystery out of telestration. And now, with this new ChyronHego Academy course, we’re taking any mystery out of Paint.”

For more information about the ChyronHego Academy, visit the company’s website.

MELVILLE, N.Y.—ChyronHego has announced that its Click Effects PRIME fan engagement engine is a partner product with the recently unveiled Panasonic Kairos, an IT/IP-centric next-gen live production platform.

The Kairos was designed for high-quality video production and delivery, live or in the studio. By pairing with the Click Effects PRIME, ChryonHego says it will add new capabilities and versatility to sports production.

Click Effects PRIME combines ChyronHego’s PRIME graphics platform with Click Effects’ tools to simplify the design and playout of dynamic content. Through this integration, keyframed actions are available to any SDI- or DVI-powered display of any aspect ratio, says ChyronHego. Operators can deliver real-time graphics, video clips, audio tracks, animations and sponsor ads.

The Kairos, meanwhile, has GPU-based processing, with all processing layers performed in one step. The platform also offers ultra-low one-frame latency processing.

“Sitting at the heart of in-venue entertainment, this video processing architecture can play the role of video processor, scaler, mixer or server—a uniquely versatile solution that pairs well with Click Effects PRIME for the latest in live venue production and maximum fan engagement,” said Michael Bergeron, Panasonic Broadcast Camera Systems senior product manager.

For more information, visit www.chyronhego.com.

ChyronHego's spring plans will be to showcase the latest updates to its graphic offerings that cover news, sports and other programming.

Part of ChyronHego’s offerings will include the latest version of its universal graphics platform, PRIME Graphics 3.6. PRIME Graphics provides a single 4K-, HDR-, IP-ready graphics design, authoring and playout platform that can create design packages like lower thirds/news tickers, video walls and interactive touch screens. The show will also serve as the debut of PRIME AR, the augmented reality application of the PRIME Graphics platform.

Updates will also be shown of ChyronHego’s Camio end-to-end content creation, production and playout workflow. Among this is the integration of the re-skinning feature with PRIME’s Style Sheets to create a consistent look. Then there’s the new Camio 4.9 media engine for rapid browsing, fulfilling and importing PRIME Graphics templates directly via MOS plug-in into a compliant nonlinear editor.

For virtual studio and augmented reality graphics, ChyronHego’s Fresh 1.4 is available, now with full 4K support as well as UE 4.24 features like the 3D plug-in Datasmith. Additional features include support for higher resolutions, more inputs and outputs, a new scripting library and improved web panels.

ChryonHego also plans to highlight a couple of products that boost sports broadcasts, Paint 8.2 and Virtual Placement 7.3. Paint 8.2 is a telestration and analysis tool that now boasts HDR recording for the creation of Illustrated Replays in 1080p and 4K HDR, and new usability features such as auto-save, enhanced timeline functionality and richer editing features. Virtual Place 7.3, meanwhile, added an automatic chroma keyer for using AI to help add virtual graphics to live productions.

For weather broadcasts, the Metacast platform helps with unified content creation across linear and nonlinear productions. Its new features include a new 3D font, built-in HEVC clip encoding and decoding, H.264 clip export and an automation Rest API for the option to use an external automation system to drive Metacast.

Additional technologies from ChryonHego include Click Effects PRIME for venue graphics, a new Chyron Classic Keyboard and new modules of Axis World Graphics.

For more information, visit www.chyronhego.com.

This provides more flexible control over graphics across the station group, particularly for remote stations and teams, according to ChyronHego.

Another new feature is saved items within the Camio interface, which provides a configurable folder-based hierarchy for permissions and access to templates. Users can also set expiration dates that align with news cycles and have ready access to frequently used templates.

A media rendering feature is also available that enables users to create full broadcast-quality stills and animations from MOS-based templates in the HTML5-based Camio interface. These renderings can be saved locally or to the Camio asset manager.

ChyronHego is now shipping the Camio 4.8. The company’s Virtual Football system has been officially certified as a virtual offside line technology that will be used by not only broadcasters, but as the official resource for the video assistant referee workflow.

The Virtual Football system inserts virtual graphics onto the field, including the accurate placement of offside lines. The system is built on advanced image processing, allowing users to insert virtual graphics without the need for camera sensors or special camera heads. It also has a built-in keyer to overcome environmental effects like shadows or bright sunlight.

Updates to the Virtual Football system that have allowed it be certified by FIFA have included optimized calibration speed and workflow, field and lens parameters, and allowing selections from multiple angles to improve accuracy and streamline user workflow, according to Niall Hendry, product manager, Sports, at ChyronHego.

FIFA’s approval came after a number of testing events that measured the rendered offside lines for their accuracy in a variety of scenarios. Virtual Football passed all of the performance criteria laid out by FIFA.

“It is critical that technologies used in professional football are of the highest quality and accuracy, and FIFA certification shows that Virtual Football has met this high standard,” said Ian Wray, sports director for EMEA and APAC at ChyronHego.

More information is available at www.chyronhego.com.

SAN FRANCISCO—If there’s an overarching goal for broadcasters looking to freshen their look or retool their brand, it’s to use new high-end graphics solutions to add context and dig deeper into the stories they’re trying to tell.

That was the goal for the Canadian media company Global Television when it began plotting how best to cover the Alberta provincial election this spring.

ChyronHego introduced its Fresh graphics-rendering solution that integrates with the Epic Games Unreal Engine 4.

But rather than installing an oversized new set, the company decided to incorporate a series of touchscreen-based web widgets that would tell a more compelling story. These web widgets incorporate live election results, historical results and key demographic data to help broadcasters expand election coverage to mobile and online devices.

ENGAGING THE AUDIENCE

Global Television used web widgets designed by Bannister Lake to illustrate connections between election results, local maps and contextual data like household income and family status. The result was a way for viewers to more simply understand and analyze regional and city-suburban voting outcomes.

The result: the creation of colorful, impactful datasets that were designed to help Global Television tell a more compelling election story.

“Election night coverage is all about results,” said Gerry Belec, director of news technology and operations at Corus Entertainment, the network’s parent company. “The touch-enabled maps and the new features in Elector allowed us to use data in new ways that genuinely engaged our audience.”

According to Georg Hentsch, president of Bannister Lake in Cambridge, Ont., these HTML5-based widgets can be launched for other live data applications, including sports and finance, and customized so that viewers can access and manage the specific content they want to consume.

Global Television also decided to employ Elector election software from Bannister Lake that helps reporters identify overall voting trends and locate races that are fluctuating dramatically or are too close to call.

At the 2019 NAB Show, Ross Video introduced its Voyager graphics platform, which is built on the Unreal 4 gaming engine and based on the Unreal’s Frontier rendering system.

The network also integrated a virtual set system that gave it the opportunity to design a customized virtual set. Using the Avid Maestro graphics suite, 4Designer 2D/3D authoring software and ProSet virtual studio, Global said it has been able to produce more compelling virtual sets, 3D graphics and animation solutions, which has led to a more visual, compelling type of news program.

“VR has allowed us to go places we couldn’t go,” Belec said. “It also means that we can tell these stories in ways that are highly visual, which is critical for good television but wasn’t a reality previously—the tools just weren’t available.”

HYPER-REALISTIC

Other companies are investing in hyper-realistic graphics to retool broadcast studio spaces, including TV2 East in Denmark. The company recently invested in a new graphics rendering engine from Ross Video, which enables the development of photorealistic scenery and realistic graphics in a virtual studio environment.

“Voyager helps us make virtual sets and augmented reality look even more realistic,” said Stuart Russell, senior communications manager for Ross Video. “It’s a great tool to enhance storytelling and help produce more engaging and compelling content.”

The new Voyager—which is built on the Unreal 4 gaming engine and based on the company’s Frontier rendering system—can be used to design photorealistic scenery for virtual sets and augmented reality. TV2, a regional television network that has been using virtual studio technology since 2012 for its news studio, will use the graphics platform as part of a full-blown virtual studio solution. The system includes graphics features like real-time reflections, dynamic texture, skeleton animation and cloth animation.

“We hope the change will give us easier access to an effective augmented reality workflow, hopefully a MOS-based workflow,” said Kasper Thor Larsen, technical chef for TV2 East.

Other manufacturers are introducing solutions that more accurately integrate disparate graphics into a newsroom scene. At the 2019 NAB Show, ChyronHego launched its Fresh graphics-rendering solution that also integrates with the Epic Games Unreal Engine 4. By tying the ChyronHego augmented reality and virtual set software into the Unreal platform, users are able to bundle text and titles into an AR scene via a 3D graphic object library that’s pre-integrated into the Unreal environment. This allows producers to add 3D elements without having to re-render them for the gaming engine.

Bannister Lake touch-enabled web widget integrates demographic data alongside historic and live election results data.

“Producers are able to tell a better story and captivate viewers through high-quality AR graphics,” said Alon Stoerman, senior product manager, live production solutions with ChyronHego. They’re also able to do it faster and easier than ever before, since Fresh can be operated as an integral part of the rundown.”

Integration with the ChyronHego CAMIO template-based asset management system can be used to incorporate AR/VS elements into a station’s news environment. This integration makes it even easier for producers to tell a better story, the company said, because AR graphics are part of the news rundown along with other graphics element.

Telling a more compelling story was also the goal for the Finnish telco provider Telia. In an effort to grow the burgeoning Finnish esports market, the company launched a new national e-sports league called “Telia Esports Series in April.” To boost its popularity and help players compete at a higher level, the series is being broadcast internationally on the Twitch channel and nationwide on Finnish television.

The program is broadcast in two locales: from a remote production hub and from a formal studio. The physical studio employs virtual reality technology Zero Density led by systems integrator Broadcast Solutions Finland. The facility switches from programs broadcast in 1080i50 to the Telia production platform of 1080p50 in a few seconds, the company said.

LAS VEGAS—ChyronHego recognizes the changing nature of the broadcast industry and has crafted a series of products that seek to address many of the issues facing content producers. ChyronHego will have these products, both new and newly updated, as part of its 2019 NAB Show presentation.

One of the new products from ChryonHego that will be on-hand is the Vidigo News platform. Designed for OTT content creation and publishing, Vidigo News is an all-in-one production system that combines ChryonHego’s Vidigo Live Compositor for live multicamera production with the Live Assist production automation system and a Live Assist Panels user interface.

Paint 7.5

PRIME Graphics 3.5, the latest version of ChyronHego’s universal graphics platform, will also be on display. This 4K and IP-ready graphics design and playout system has added GPU capabilities that enable PRIME to drive pixels and synchronize multiple outputs for video walls of any size and shape. It also now has the ability to create native HDR graphics and output them to an HDR channel.

New developments have also been made to the company’s family of AR graphics and virtual set platforms. ChyronHego’s Hybrid AR systems allow for AR graphics to be created and managed from the same NRCS rundown. The products have also been integrated with Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, featuring rendering and real-time special effect tools.

ChyronHego will address channel branding needs with new capabilities built into its NewsTicker 5 and PRIME Graphics systems. By integrating the two products, NewsTicker 5 can use PRIME’s data management capabilities for delivering localized channel branding and support for multiple languages. It also features a new HTML5-based user interface for remote control from laptops and tablets.

Focusing on the graphic needs of sports broadcasters, ChryonHego plans to highlight its Paint and Virtual Placement products. Paint is a telestration and analysis tool for broadcasters to generate Illustrated Replays by visually analyzing game play and graphically highlighting the video to be replayed. In addition, the latest version of Paint, 7.5, has full 4K support, integration with EVS and Grass Valley replay systems and tools for automatic publishing of telestrated replay clips to social media outlets.

The newly updated Virtual Placement 7.1 adds the ability for a single Virtual Placement system to output up to four different virtual graphics at once. The system also has remote graphics placement for international rights holders, allowing broadcasters to insert a virtual graphic into clean feed with no additional calibration needed for realistic tracking.

There will also be the Click Effects PRIME system, which is a set of integrated and turn-key graphics-authoring tools for in-venue experiences.

All of these products will be at the ChyronHego booth, SL1208, throughout the 2019 NAB Show.

To register for the NAB Show, visit www.nabshow.com.

NASHVILLE, TN.—TNDV has redesigned and upgraded its Destination live multi-camera HD production truck to offer sports and entertainment producers an agile, compact mobile production solution in a 40-foot form factor.

“While there are plenty of full-sized HD production trucks on the road today, there aren’t many that can fit backstage or in the alley behind the venue,” said TNDV President and owner Nic Dugger. “By offering the same firepower in a much smaller footprint, Destination definitely fills that void in this specialized, niche market.”

The truck, originally called Blackjack, had been owned by three different companies before being acquired by TNDV, moved to Atlanta and parked outside the Philips Arena (now State Farm Arena) for four years where it was used to produce the home games of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks.

Once done with that coverage, the vehicle was redesigned, upgraded and rebranded. Destination was re-engineered with a robust infrastructure to handle a high density of video and audio feeds, said Dugger.

The redesigned Destination has expanding sides that broaden the production vehicle from nine to 11.5 feet. The interior is divided into a main video production area, an audio suite and an isolated video production space to allow producers and editors to work on content without disrupting live shows.

The main production space is equipped with a Ross Carbonite 3 M/E production switcher, which faces a large multiviewer. Digital video effects and live broadcast graphics options include two Ross xPression dual-channel CG systems, and either a Chyron Duet Hyper X3 or Pinnacle Deko 3000 dual-channel live graphics system.

A bank of AJA Video Ki Pro digital disc recorders are provided to record programs. Sony 1800 HDCam and Panasonic AJ-HD1200A VTRs are available as options. The production area also offers a six-channel EVS HD XT[2] slo-mo system for live sports production.

Destination carries Hitachi SK-HD 1200 portable HD studio/field production cameras that are capable of low-noise 1080p image capture with support for high dynamic range (HDR).

Audio support includes a Soundcraft Si Impact 32-facer digital audio mixer with a Soundcraft stagebox. A large Imagine Communications Platinum router handles video signal distribution, including multiviewer support.

More information is available on the TNDV website.

Vidigo News packages ChyronHego's Vidigo Live Compositor, an intuitive software solution for live multicamera production, with LyricX graphics creation and playout solution, Live Assist playout automation system, and a custom GUI based on the Live Assist Panels user interface and control panel creation tool. Vidigo News combines a scalable switcher, an audio mixer, a powerful video effects engine, a LyricX graphics channel, clip players, and even robotic camera control in an easy-to-use solution that can be controlled by a single operator.

ChyronHego will also demonstrate CAMIO 4.5, the next release of the company's industry-leading graphic asset management solution, with key features designed to make producer-driven news workflows even more versatile, flexible, and cost-effective. CAMIO 4.5 enhancements include a powerful new render engine; the ability to publish content straight from the newsroom to social media; and the latest version of LUCI5, the HTML5 plugin for fulfillment interface.

Paint 7.4

ChyronHego will also showcase Paint 7.4, its telestration and analysis solution for sports broadcasting.
LONDON—Mark Roberts Motion Control, a Nikon subsidiary and supplier of robotic camera systems and ChyronHego have partnered to develop automated, robotic camera-based player and ball tracking systems for sports.

The partnership brings together key technologies, including ChyronHego’s TRACAB optical sports tracking system, which identifies and follows players as they move, while providing live game-play metrics. Also key is MRMC’s new Polycam System for synchronized movement of multiple robotic cameras, and new Robotic Pod camera system that captures video and stills of game action from multiple angles around the field.

[Read: ChyronHego To Debut Latest Broadcast Graphics Tools at 2018 NAB Show]

“ChyronHego’s graphics solutions and installed tracking systems expand the possibilities for our automated remote camera systems,” said MRMC CEO Assaff Rawner. The Robotic Pod incorporates a Nikon D5 Digital SLR camera that captures high-quality imagery, even in challenging lighting conditions, as well as live color-control technology for matching the color output of multiple cameras.

MRMC can capitalize on ChyronHego’s broad sports industry connections to market their new products, and ChyronHego can sell and distribute MRMC’s automated solutions to its own customer base. Initially, distribution will be through Nikon Inc. (USA), Nikon France S.A.S. (France), and Nikon GmbH (Germany), while MRMC will handle UK distribution directly.

TRACAB camera-based player and ball tracking systems are now installed at over 300 stadiums and “capture live tracking data for over 4,500 games every year,” said Sören Kjellin, CTO, ChyronHego. “[This] partnership is the latest example of how data-driven, innovative solutions are accelerating professional sports teams, leagues, and broadcasters around the world.”

Prime Studio Monitors now has subchannels for studio monitor solutions and stadium LED screens.

MELVILLE, N.Y.—ChyronHego upgraded Camio, its graphic asset management server, with features including the HubDrive file distribution tool and Luci5, an HTML5 update of the company’s modular user interface for newsroom producers. With this release, Camio 4.2.2 brings new capabilities and even greater product integration to the Camio Universe, ChyronHego’s comprehensive, software-based newsroom production ecosystem.

“With Luci5’s simple and clear workflow connecting the newsroom to the art department and the control room, users can focus on writing the news and breaking it first. And HubDrive makes it easier than ever before to manage and distribute graphics assets across a network of playout devices,” said Sören Kjellin, chief technology officer of ChyronHego.

With Luci5, producers are able to browse, create, and order images and video assets from Camio without having to leave the familiar environment of their newsroom computer systems (NRCS). Luci5 enables the creation of reusable graphics, clips, and automated cues. While Luci5 is based on the Media Object Server Protocol’s new HTML5 plugin specification, making it compatible with most current NRCS solutions, the interface also supports some older NRCS via an ActiveX container.

The HTML5-based Luci plugin also enables engineering staff to maintain the deployment. Since Luci5 is a webpage served from Camio, producers will get the latest version of Luci without the need for software upgrades at their workstations.

ChyronHego’s new HubDrive feature in Camio 4.2.2 is a Dropbox-like folder synchronization and file distribution system that empowers art departments to distribute Camio content automatically to a network of playout devices. Via its fast and lightweight client/server architecture, HubDrive automatically installs necessary fonts and ensures that all required files are distributed where they are needed throughout the network. Seamless support for the full range of solutions in the Camio Universe ensures that graphics content is in place when and where it is needed.

The EPL has extended its contract to use ChyronHego’s TRACAB image-based tracking system for real-time ball- and player-tracking data for all 20 of its clubs.

The EPL began using the TRACAB system in 2013, but with this new deal a hardware upgrade will be provided to the systems in all 20 stadiums. The TRACAB system uses image-processing technology to determine the position of all moving objects on the field of play at 25 times per second. The results provide a live data feed for all the X, Y and Z coordinates for each identified object. The data can then be streamed in an open format to a multitude of visualization platforms, like broadcast graphics systems and online or mobile platforms, as well as prepare performance statistics for sports analysis.

The TRACAB system will be used for all EPL matches for the 2016/2017, 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 seasons.

It can output graphics and clips through a single system. Among Prime 2.0’s features is the Prime Designer, a design tool for graphics authoring that provides drag-and-drop workflows for scene construction and data binding. Additional features include Warp Effects technology, auto-follow, mask, render to texture and integration with ChyronHego’s NewsTicker data and content management system.

New with the Prime 2.0 update is Clips Prime, a flexible broadcast clip player that can support up to six independent channels of video from a single server. Clips Prime features dynamic and pre-canned transitions and provides full integration with Camio, ChyronHego’s MOS-based and NRCS-connected graphics asset management system. This makes Prime 2.0 an element of the Camio Universe of technology.

ChyronHego can deliver the Prime Ecosystem either as a series of packages operating together or as stand-alone products.

The broadcasts will utilize a trio of ChyronHego products, including its LyricX graphics creation and playout system, TRACAB player tracking system, and Virtual Placement virtual graphics system.

The deal will kick off with the 2016-2017 season. All broadcasts of IFPL’s Ligat Winner first division and State Cup will use the LyricX system. All Ligat Winner stadiums, meanwhile, have been equipped with optical cameras that enable TRACAB, which captures and deliver real-time data on movement of the players, officials and the ball. Virtual Placement will be used to create “instant virtual replays,” providing real-time animation that recreates player movement.

ChyronHego has similar deals with other soccer leagues, including the UEFA Champions League, English Premier League and La Liga.

The PRIME has a new user interface that allows users to drag-and-drop designs for scene construction and an all-new browser and scene designer with an enhanced timeline. Lastly to be shown is the Paint Telestration and Analysis Tool for sports broadcasters seeking to do illustrated replays. Users can create analysis scenes of near-live replays or post-match analysis.

To see all of ChyronHego’s latest workflows, visit booth 1525.

One operation the station used it for was the “L bar,” a group of graphics on the left and bottom portion of the screen, which were built by the station’s graphics team. The PRIME system will now build off of Channel Box and add next-generation, future-proof technology, per ChyronHego.

ChyronHego’s Creative Services team will assist WISH-TV with its customization of the PRIME Ecosystem.

LAS VEGAS—KLAS-TV, 8 News Now has served the Las Vegas community since 1953. As our market has grown more competitive, one of the ways we’ve stayed ahead of the technology curve has been to continually adapt our brand and presentation format. A couple of years ago, we took a major step forward by installing a suite of broadcast graphics solutions from ChyronHego, which included four channels of playout on a Mosaic graphics engine and PowerClips multiformat production clip server.

We continued to operate with our previous look and feel, with a plan to embark on a complete graphics refresh including an all-new set for our news studio. The release updates to ChyronHego’s Camio graphic asset management system last year propelled us forward with the project, enabling us to build a completely new look and graphics workflow from scratch.

The Camio workflow has allowed the KLAS graphics team to focus more on graphics creation.NEW LOOK
The 2016 NAB Show offered the ideal opportunity for ChyronHego to unveil the new look for KLAS. Prior to the deadline, we brought in the ChyronHego consulting team who walked us through the features in Camio and showed us how we could rethink our workflow and streamline graphics creation using the new tools built into Luci, Camio’s modular graphics fulfillment interface. From there, we brought in a creative services team from ChyronHego to execute a complete news graphics package integration leveraging our Lyric resources in a Camio workflow.

Prior to the graphics refresh we had added another channel to Lyric in order to accommodate the NewsTicker application. Now, with ChyronHego’s acquisition of Newsroom Solutions, maker of NewsTicker, we have a “one-stop-shop” for creating ticker graphics and integrating them with the graphics created in Lyric. Plus, with News-Ticker and Luci working in tandem, this has brought even more flexibility and graphics power to both news and master control.

By adding additional Lyric channels dedicated to playout, we’re able to spread our resources and maximize workflows. The new configuration also streamlines our use of PowerClips, automating the previous process in which producers had to build the PowerClips stack manually for playout prior to a show. Also, we’re now able to use PowerClips to drive the monitors on the set rather than using oldschool DVD players, as we were doing before.

INCREASED CONTROL
The Camio-driven graphics workflow has brought impressive time savings and new flexibility to our news operation. Graphics creation is more instantaneous because Luci places more control in the hands of our producers. We also added Axis World Graphics to our workflow, which allows our producers to quickly use templates to create graphics for broadcast. Rather than have to send every graphics request to an artist, a producer can update a graphic on the fly and then immediately play it out to air. This allows our graphics artists to be less burdened with as many day-to-day tasks and focus on more strategic projects.

Not only did the ChyronHego team help with the actual implementation and graphics template creation, they played an important strategic role as well, taking the time to observe our newscasts and how we were using the equipment previously. With input from our newsroom team, producers, graphic artists, and directors, ChyronHego came up with a plan that would help us leverage Axis, Camio, Luci, Lyric, and NewsTicker in new and effective ways to build a newsroom setup that would serve us well into the future.

Tim Foley is director of technical services and Eric Aegerter is senior director for KLAS, the CBS-affiliate station based in Las Vegas. It builds on the established Lyric platform, which has16,000 installations worldwide, according toJohan Apel, president and CEO of ChyronHego

“LyricX presents a robust new framework with which to develop next-generation capabilities to meet our customers’ increasing performance demands,” he said.

A central component of LyricX is an all-new keyboard and control surface that exposes all familiar Lyric functions and offers programmable LCD keys that can be completely configured for any use case. With the revamped user interface in LyricX, users can configure screens for specific programs, such as news shows, and they can easily switch between these individual environments.

LyricX is a fundamental element in the Camio Universe software-based newsroom production ecosystem. Camio Universe is driven by Camio 4.2, slated for release in Q3 of 2016. With version 4.2, newsrooms will be able to leverage the speed improvements of LyricX. With the Camio Universe, the greater ChyronHego family of products will emulate Lyric’s template-based tools and playout control, including the company’s Hybrid virtual graphics solution, Metacast weather graphics generation tool, PowerClips multi-format production clip server, and GS2 Multi-Touch touchscreen generation platform.

ChyronHego will showcase LyricX working in tandem with the company’s Channel Box Prime 64-bit channel branding system, in booth SL1210.

The vendor also noted that it was tapped by NBC Olympics for graphics. NBC Olympics will use Lyric PRO graphics technology running on the Mosaic XL platform to provide on-air graphics for the games, which take place in Rio de Janeiro Aug. 5–21. NBC Olympics will be deploying the Lyric PRO software on 12 Mosaic XL systems for the creation and on-air playback of fast and on-the-fly data-driven graphics, during its presentation of the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The company also announced the sale of 17 tracking analysis and virtual graphics systems to Swedish horse race broadcaster, Kanal 75.Each system combines ChyronHego’s ZXY sports analysis product, its Virtual Placement tool, and its GS2 graphics engine. The project is the first for ChyronHego’s ZXY technology outside of soccer and one of the largest of its kind in the world of horse racing.

The systems, which are set to be installed at 17 Swedish Trotting Federation tracks by the summer, rely on ChyronHego’s ZXY transponder-based player tracking and analysis technology. ZXY tracks the position of all of the horses and analyzes data about each one, such as its path around the track, speed and efficiency when running the route, distance from one horse to another, acceleration, and more. ZXY also applies behavioral algorithms that can predict, for example, when a horse is about to go into a gallop, which is prohibited in harness racing.

From there ChyronHego’s Virtual Placement system and GS2 graphics engine make it possible to translate that data into virtual graphics that are in harmony with the action on the screen, such as live marking horses within the broadcast; tracing a particular horse’s path around the track; or displaying names, times, positions, statistics, and sponsor logos. These on-screen graphics bring ZXY’s analysis to life for viewers, creating a better media product that supplies critical data for more informed, more strategic betting.

At this point the system is intended to benefit the viewers, but all data is being saved so that one day racing teams might use it to help identify adjustments that could improve their performance, just as many coaches and players do now.

Every year, we offer live coverage of 850 sporting events and produce extensive original programming through one national and six regional networks. In addition to showcasing marquee football and basketball events, we also cover traditionally underserved women’s and global sporting events.

COLORFUL ANALYSIS

In order to provide the best possible viewing experience for televised Pac-12 games and events, we’re continually challenged to stay on the cutting edge of broadcast graphics. That’s why we decided to give fans one more thing to cheer about at the start of the 2014 football season: state-of-the-art on-air graphics analysis capabilities using ChyronHego Paint.

Although we had worked with other graphics systems in the past, we needed a solution that would enable us to add enhanced graphics analysis breakdowns to video packages in quick turnaround situations. As an advanced telestration tool designed specifically for the needs of sports broadcasters, Paint was the ideal solution. With our existing ChyronHego BlueNet graphics workflow already in place to include HyperX3, Camio, and Channel Box, we knew we could expect Paint to offer rich functionality coupled with extreme ease of use; and we haven’t been disappointed.

Most events televised by Pac-12 Networks are driven through our exclusive Mobile Input-Output (MI/O) appliances, which travel from venue to venue. In effect, the MI/O box replaces the satellite truck and sits next to the mobile truck, uploading and downloading data throughout the game through a specialized fiber link. Central to our IP workflow for multicam productions, the MI/O boxes are the pipelines that feed raw video and audio assets to the central Pac-12 studio. The inbound content goes to an edit bay where a technician uses Chyron-Hego Paint’s feature-rich telestration tools to visually analyze gameplay and to graphically enhance and highlight the video.

IDEAL FOR QUICK TURNAROUNDS

In one common Paint application, a technician creates a custom, telestrated content package that the on-air talent can use to illustrate talking points during pregame, post-game, and halftime programs; for example, a Cody Kessler touchdown package that uses telestration to demonstrate the USC Trojans quarterback’s correct reads and outstanding offensive drives during the first half.

Since these enhanced graphics become part of the storyline of a game, the Paint telestration elements have enabled us to push the quality of our live game productions to the next level. Because Paint is so easy to use, it’s ideal for the quick turnaround environment of a typical game broadcast in which live content must be processed immediately for presentation during a halftime show. In my experience, Paint is second-to-none for producing highquality and high-value graphics quickly and easily, and it’s now an essential component in our IP production workflow.

Erwin Tugadi is manager for pre/post event content for the Pac-12 Networks, based in San Francisco.
