ATLANTA—BroadStream Solutions and KMOS-TV, a PBS station owned and operated by the University of Central Missouri, have struck a deal that will have BroadStream’s OASYS integrated playout platform to streamline playout operations for the station’s four broadcast channels.

OASYS runs on commodity-based IT hardware that allows it to provider operations to consolidate and streamline the stations’ master control functions and standardize operations. It also allows for operator cross training. The system’s integrated platform has a flexible and scalable architecture that can incorporate optional software modules that fit the operations and functions of the different channels.

KMOS-TV’s specific set-up includes a full suite of OASYS software, specifically Player, Graphics Extension, Redundancy Manager, Streaming Agent, File Checker, Global Media Library, Maker and OASYS Designer and supported by a 64TB NAS, four channels of HD playout and eight ingest channels with full redundancy and an upgraded BXF traffic interface from Myers Protrack.

ATLANTA—A pair of Michaels are joining the North American sales team for integrated playout provider BroadStream Solutions. Michael D. Harris has been named vice president of sales, North America, while Michael Devine has been tapped to cover accounts in New York and the Northeast.

Harris will be responsible for directing the efforts of the entire North American sales team, per BroadStream. His previous experience includes time with Hewlett Packard, Pinnacle, Harris, Avid and most recently AmberFin/Dalet Digital Media.

Devine has worked for more than 30 years in positions like director of sales for Masstech and Signiant, as well as strategic accounts director for Front Porch Digital.

LYDONVILLE, N.Y.—Digital Alert Systems (DAS) and BroadStream Solutions are teaming up to provide a model for Emergency Alert System (EAS) playout. To do so, DAS will integrate its EAS and Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) messaging platforms with BroadStream’s Oasys integrated playout system.

The legacy and software-based integration of the DAS platform with Oasys allows BroadStream media servers to handle all necessary playout and EAS tasks. With the integration, the companies say that no external character generator is required. The integration also provides a IP-based communication link between the devices, enabling an alternative to traditional serial I/O and audio cabling.

BroadStream Solutions will showcase the integrated DASDEC/Oasys system at booth N6315 during the 2016 NAB Show.

ATLANTA—BroadStream Solutions has hired a number of new employees across a range of its departments, including sales, operations, R&D, marketing and support teams.

For sales, one of the new appointments is Shelinder Sachdeva as the sales director for India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Sachdeva is the former vice president of sales for PlayBox. The company also announced the hire of Frank Summerfield, who previously worked with Harmonic, IneoQuest, Vermiatrix and RGB Networks, as business development director for the U.K., Ireland and the Nordics. BroadStream has announced that it will also be recruiting a new U.S. sales engineer.

David Bowes has also joined BroadStream in the newly created role of CFO/COO. Working out of BroadStream’s Atlanta headquarters, the company says Bowes will seek to improve operational efficiency and overall business strategy. Previous stops for Bowes include roles at Rover Group as finance and manufacturing strategy director, and director at Lola Group and Elan Motorsports Group.

Also in the Atlanta office, Lauralyn Mustaki has joined the BroadStream team as marketing director. Some of her prior experience includes roles as vice president and director for Turner Broadcasting and most recently as director of accounts and member services at Georgia Association of Broadcasters.

In addition, BroadStream reports that it has added five software engineers to its R&D department in Croatia over the last six months.

ATLANTA—After looking for a channel-in-a-box system to replace its traditional master control playout system, Hong Kong-based pay TV service now TV has tapped BroadStream Solutions Oasys integrated playout system to provide more than 20 playout channels.

The pay TV service is using a single Oasys IT-based playout system operating on industry standard IT hardware and controlled through an intuitive user interface. It initially installed eight primary and four backup channels of Oasys for playout services with graphics inserts, but is now expanding for a majority of its services, including onscreen graphics, program title keying, dynamic scrolls and channel branding.

The Oasys system also offers channel redundancy with 1:1, M:1 and/or M:N configurations with channel prioritization. The system also has IP in/out capability.

BroadStream Solutions focuses on the playout of linear television channels and news playout tools for broadcasters, networks, cable and satellite operations.

ATLANTA—The Austin, Texas-based PBS station, KLRU-TV, has recently acquired BroadStream’s OASYS Integrated Playout system to serve as the stations new automation playout platform. The unit offers full redundancy, integrated graphics capabilities and the SMPTE Broadcast Exchange Format protocol.

The OASYS system will handle the station’s video servers, character generators, logo inserters, vision switchers and DVEs through a single platform that operates on industry standard IT hardware with BroadStream’s Multi-Channel Web Client user interface. The system will also integrate with KLRU’s Myers Pro Track traffic system via the BXF protocol, providing two-way communication between traffic and automation. New graphics capabilities will also be added to the station through the OASYS.

KLRU will install the OASYS system in mid-November.

ATLANTA—BroadStream Solutions, an automated playout specialist, and Bannister Lake, a content management system provider, have reached an agreement that will integrate Bannister Lake’s SuperTicker Flow into BroadStream’s OASYS integrated playout platform.

The SuperTicker Flow is a scalable content management system that aggregates information and data in a centralized database for graphics displays. SuperTicker data sets include news tickers, alerts, weather updates, social media, sponsored elements and more. BroadStream will use these data sets with its OASYS Graphics Extension and Publisher software modules to deliver enhanced information capabilities with its graphics capabilities.

The OASYS system is designed to provide end-to-end SDI, IP or hybrid SDI/IP playout workflows. OASYS also interfaces to third party systems such as channel management, traffic and scheduling to customize a specific situation.

ATLANTA – To bring the weekly magazine show “FIFA Football” and daily “Omnisports Bulletin” to its audience, digital sports content and media group Perform has selected Broadstream Solutions’ OASYS automated playout platform.

OASYS uses shared-file assets and incorporates an end-to-end, file-based workflow from ingest, through production and editing, to transmission. The OASYS is also able to expand its one channel solution to a variety of channels. The platform also prepares Perform for the IP transition.

Perform currently utilizes OASYS for five shows, totaling eight hours of programming a week.

ATLANTA – Broadstream Solutions intends to launch its new Armada Time Delay Server in Amsterdam during the 2015 IBC Show. The Armada provides customers with the ability to delay and replay content for a range of zero to 72 hours.

The Armada Time Delay Server takes live inputs from SD-SDI, HD-SDI or IP and provides SD-SDI, HD-SDI or IP outputs. The servers “Delay Out” feature allows for multiple outputs to come from the same input, with each output able to have the same or different delay periods. Additional outputs can be added with the same or different delay and/or graphic overlay. Multiple delays can also take place on the same server with an optional single fixed graphic overlaid on each delayed output.

The fully automated Armada is available as a 3RU standard, but is also available as 1RU if space is limited. It will be on display at Broadstream’s booth, 8.B29.
