ZURICH—IP audio networking equipment developer Barix says that it is “bringing its IP paging and intercom expertise to large broadcast and emergency response networks with RackBox, a universal cloud-based, any-to-all platform for widespread delivery of critical messages.”

The 1RU RackBox can provide standard and emergency paging and intercom needs inside and outside the a broadcast facility. The IP backbone can facilitate messaging across a whole network, putting everyone on the same page. As a native IP device, it will be at home on standard IT networks.

A front-panel XLR connector allows for connection to a microphone. An onboard speaker provides for feedback. It uses a Linux-based heart while supporting major audio formats.

LAS VEGAS—The 2019 NAB Show will be the launching point for Barix’s newest addition to its audio over IP transport products, the MA400 SIP Opus Codec. The new offering combines SIP-based link establishment with the Opus compression format.

The MA400 encodes and decodes audio signals through the open standard Opus codec. It then builds on the codec with SIP functionality to establish links across SIP-compatible telephone, radio and other communication systems. With the SIP functionality, the MA400 can dial another device or phone number and automatically negotiate a transmission link for audio streaming.

The MA400 is built on Barix’s IPAM 400 audio module and features an analog, microphone-level input and line-level output. It shares the same form factor and build quality as the Exstreamer 100 product family.

ZURICH—It’s a homecoming for Johannes Rietschel, as the founder of Barix is rejoining the company as its new CTO. Rietschel comes in as part of several executive-level changes for Barix, including a new CEO, Vice President of Engineering and Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

Rietschel founded Barix in 2001 with a focus on developing technology for moving audio and control signals over IP networks. It is also now a provider of SaaS and managed services via its business music and advertising platform SoundScape.

Joining Rietschel will be Ivo Killer as Barix’s new CEO, replacing Frank Frederiksen, who departed the company in August. Killer also serves as COO of Barix’s sister company, Qibixx. The duo of Rietschel and Killer will look to reshape Barix’s operations and product development.

In addition, Joan Parilla has joined the Barix team as its new VP of Engineering. Parilla has served as product manager for SoundScape since its launch in 2013. Reto Brader, who has been Barix’s VP of Sales since 2015, also received a promotion to VP of Sales and Marketing.
