LAS VEGAS—Artel Video Systems aims to simplify broadcasters’ move to hybrid IP/SDI and all-IP operations, and will use the 2020 NAB Show to showcase its latest products that will assist with that mission.

One such product is the SMART Media Delivery Platform, a software-defined, four-channel, auto-sense 3G/HD/SD-SDI-over-IP multifunction gateway with integrated non-blocking layer 2/3 switching and routing capabilities. SMART has four video ports for transport of video, audio and ancillary data and four GigE data ports that bridge to one or two 10G interfaces. The platform supports SMPTE ST 2022: 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7 hitless switching; J2K compression; QoS; VLAN tagging; and traffic management.

Artel has also announced that it will conduct live demos that will showcase SMART’s J2K support, showing how different software images can be selected to enable different functionality on the installed hardware system.

Quarra PTP Ethernet switches are also on tap for the NAB Show. The company’s family of PTP-aware managed IP switches offer IEEE 1588-compliant timing and synchronization, with new modifications supporting live performance environments, having quieter fans and new software-based controls that can vary fan speed. In addition to supporting SMPTE ST 2110 and ST 2059-2, the switches are Ravenna AES67-approved and Dante- and QSC-tested.

In addition, Artel will be showcasing its FiberLink family of media transport products, which support video, audio and data signals. All devices in the FiberLink family support SMPTE standards.

WESTFORD, MA.—Artel Video Systems today announced a new series of technology and solutions training programs to help broadcasters prepare as the industry transitions to IP.

The training courses are intended to hasten understanding of underlying technologies necessary in the broadcast industry to enable migration to IP and enhance productivity as IT and video workflows converge, the company said.

Artel will offer course in three areas: networking technology for video professionals, video technology courses for networking professionals and modern IP video technologies and systems.

“The migration toward IP and the convergence of video and IT ecosystems require broadcast video and audio professionals to understand networking and vice versa,” said Rafael Fonseca, vice president of product management at Artel. 

The networking technology courses for video professionals are designed for engineers, technicians and operators who need to understand the functions and terms that will be used to create the next generation of video production systems. The Level 1 course addresses IP layers, technology fundamentals and networking technologies. The Level 2 course builds on that foundation and focus on more advanced IP technologies needed for IP video production, multicasting and elements of video encapsulation, Artel said.

The video technology courses for networking professionals are designed for practicing IT professionals with a strong background in IP networking who need to understand audio and video signal formats and terms. The Level 1 course will cover the wide range of video signals and the systems used to distribute them to viewers. The Level 2 course will examine video compression methods and the different elements of video streams and containers.

The modern IP video technologies and systems course is designed for technicians and engineers with backgrounds in both video and networking technologies who need to learn more about the technologies based upon new IP standards for media production and transport.

NEW YORK—Artel Video Systems is planning to make the trip to the NAB Show New York, and it is bringing its new InfinityLink broadcast media transport system, as well as its DigiLink and FiberLink systems, along for the ride.

InfinityLink

The InfinityLink is a fully integrated media transport system that features the IL6000 1RU four-slot chassis with active routing and SNMP management system. The platform is designed to transport video, audio and data over IP- and fiber-based networks for 3G/SD/HD-SDI, DVB-ASI, and Ethernet.

Artel’s DigiLink media transport platform will also be on hand, which along with the InfinityLink is compatible with Artel’s Dual-Port L-band demodulator and satellite scanner (DLC510). The scanner adds fully automatic L-band satellite-scanning functionality to the media transport systems and supports Carrier ID monitoring per ETSI TS 103 129. It is also capable of providing RF information, modulation data, and other key metrics for daily operations.

InfinityLink and DigiLink also offer IP-based technologies that utilize SMPTE 2022-1/2/5/6 IP encapsulation and optional forward correction algorithms. The platforms can also feature a 1 GigE IP interface for users to bridge IP data for bandwidth utilization of the 10G Ethernet interface.

The company will also feature a showcase of its FiberLink products that support 4K/UHD at up to 60 fps. FiberLink products can support video, audio and data signal.

WESTFORD, MASS.—Rafael Fonseca is joining Artel Video Systems as its new vice president and director of product management, the company announced via a press release. “Rafael’s strength in developing comprehensive product portfolios will be critical to Artel’s growth,” said Mike Rizzo, president and CEO of Artel.

Fonseca comes to Artel with experience in various product management roles that required him to identify market requirements, manage product evolution, and develop product positioning in support of sales, marketing and business development. He previously worked for Cedar Point Communications as vice president of product management, marketing and sales engineering, as well as a technical team member at Bell Laboratories.

WESTFORD, MASS.—IP and fiber-based media transport system provider Artel Video has launched its new InfinityLink product line. The integrated and scalable media transport system allows users to design and manage video, audio and data transport systems.

The first member of the InfinityLink product line is the IL6000. With a 1RU chassis, the unit features 20x20 3G routing and Ethernet switching capabilities. It also has on-board chassis-management for the ability to monitor, configure and upgrade chassis and function module firmware.

InfinityLink is also interoperable with Artel’s DigiLink and FiberLink product lines.

Artel will demo the new InfinityLink lin at IBC 2016.
