PHILADELPHIA—Comcast has announced that Xfinity customers can now use AirPlay to stream and share programming from the Xfinity Stream app, including live news and sports, on demand movies and shows, and their DVR recordings, directly to Apple TV 4K and other AirPlay-supported devices.

The move builds on the company’s efforts to offer Xfinity TV customers with flexibility and choice in the way they access content and it strengthens recent tech ties between the pay TV provider and Apple. 

In March of 2022, Comcast launched the Apple TV+ app across Comcast’s entertainment platforms, and in June, Comcast brought the Xfinity Stream app to Apple TV devices.

LOS ANGELES—Quibi has added a new feature that provides additional viewing capabilities to what was at first supposed to be a mobile-only streaming service. According to Quibi’s Chief Product Officer Tom Conrad, the latest version of Quibi has Apple AirPlay capability for iOS devices.

Conrad announced the news on Twitter, also sharing that they are working to add Chromecast in June.

This meets the time frame that Quibi founder Jeffrey Katzenberg announced in April, where he said some Quibi users will be able to cast content to TVs in May.

Quibi’s streaming service offers 10-minute episodes of content that were designed to be consumed while people were on the go. But as the coronavirus has limited travel, many subscribers were calling for the ability to watch Quibi’s content on their TVs.

LAS VEGAS—Samsung has announced that it will add support for movies and TV shows purchased via Apple’s iTunes as well as support for Apple AirPlay beginning in the spring. Support on 2018 Samsung Smart TVs will be made available via firmware update.

This marks the first time Apple has made support for its iTunes platform available on a non-Apple device. Support for iTunes will be made available on Samsung Smart TV’s in more than 100 countries and support for “AirPlay 2”—the latest version of Apple’s platform that allows consumers to stream from Apple devices to smart TVs—in 190 countries.

This capability will allows users to access and purchase or rent iTunes content—including 4K, HDR movies—on Samsung Smart TVs as well as play videos, photos, music, podcasts, etc.
