NASHVILLE—Mobile production company TNDV has made its second largest investment in Sony 4K/HD cameras, adding 20 Sony HDC-4300L camera systems, bringing a total of 28 Sony cameras to its gear portfolio.

Four of the newly acquired HDC-4300Ls have been placed on Exclamation, TNDV’s flagship 4K/HD mobile unit, bringing that truck’s camera complement to 12. The other 16 cameras have been split between Collaboration—TNDV’s newest truck, which rolled out on February 22—and Aspiration, another popular mainstay of TNDV’s mobile production fleet.

“The Sony brand is highly respected for high-end 4K video acquisition, and especially revered for live, large-scale entertainment event productions,” said TNDV President Rob Devlin. “The 4K image quality these cameras capture is impressive, even when displayed on massive LED screens in large arenas. With 12 cameras on Exclamation, we can easily handle large, 12-camera shows, or multi-camera shows that require ample backup cameras.”

While Exclamation typically focuses on the biggest shows and events, Collaboration and Aspiration can now offer this same Sony 4K image quality on smaller entertainment event shoots. Professional cameras previously housed on those trucks have rippled down to smaller trucks in the fleet, such as Inspiration, as well as custom-configured flypacks the company said.

The Sony HDC-4300L camera system features three 2/3-inch 4K imagers and supports wide color gamut for precise color reproduction when shooting live. It enables 4K capture for multiple 4K and HD outputs and super slow motion, among other capabilities, while integrating seamlessly within Sony 4K live production workflows.

According to Devlin, the new cameras have already been used for live 4K/UHD production of two CMT Television series: CMT Crossroads and CMT Storytellers. “Our goal is to satisfy customer demands for Sony 4K acquisition and workflows, especially for large entertainment shows, while attracting more high-end customers for events of all sizes that prefer Sony cameras for their productions.”

NEVADA CITY, Calif.—Telestream has announced new functionality for its Lightspeed Live Capture platform with plans to introduce new hardware interfaces – 12G and ST 2110 – in the latest version (3.3) of the Lightspeed Live Capture system.

“This new functionality is a product of customer requests,” comments Scott Matics, senior director of product management at Telestream. “In particular, the move towards IP-based production workflows is gaining momentum and this development places Lightspeed Live Capture in the vanguard of live IP production scenarios.”

First introduced in 2019, Lightspeed Live Capture targets broadcast engineering and operations personnel who need to capture content from tape or from live event production scenarios. It has been used extensively at global sports events such as the FIFA Men’s & Women’s World Finals in Russia and France and at the Tokyo Games.

A key feature of Lightspeed Live Capture is its resilience and reliable operation, even within mission critical live production environments. This new version enables users to capture media over 12G and ST 2110, aiding the transition to IP-based workflows.

For many 4K/UltraHD workflows today, up to 4x 3G-SDI connections may be deployed to carry and create a full 4K/UltraHD image.

12G-SDI simplifies that with transmission of the full 4K signal across a single 12G-SDI cable (12G-SDI is 11.88 Gbps, ST 2082).

With this new functionality, Lightspeed Live Capture represents a scalable, automated, multichannel IP and SDI capture solution for ingesting live or tape-based media directly into production, post- production, and broadcast workflows, Telestream reported.

Lightspeed Live Capture processes video in 16-bit space to preserve total source quality and it records in a wide variety of mezzanine file formats for delivery to local shared storage, SAN, NAS, object storage (S3), FTP, Aspera and more.

“The ability for broadcasters and OTT service providers to live stream over IP at scale with equivalent resilience and efficiency to linear broadcasts is becoming a critical business driver,” added Scott Matics. “These new strategic enhancements to LightSpeed Live Capture highlight our efforts to support customer needs with orchestrated IP workflows within larger content delivery ecosystems.”

More information on Lightspeed Live Capture can be found here.

Among the products selected were a 4K/UHD production switcher, two routing switchers, 19 signal processors, integrated control software, a multiviewer, four 12G/SDI servers, two 12G graphics systems and nine modular universal system frames.

One of the specific products installed at NWS is the 3 M/E Hanabi HVS-6000 12G-SDI production switcher. The unit uses a single cable link and offers 12G-SDI capability on all inputs and outputs. Video signal are processed throughout as a single image. The HVS-6000 is a12RU switcher with up to 80 inputs/32 outputs or 64 inputs/48 outputs. Additional features include frame synchronization, frame buffer, 3D DVE, four keyers per M/E and an optional board-mounting SFP connector that supports an IP interface.

Another product from For-A now being used by NWS is a 12-button HVS-2120ROU switcher panel, which is integrated into a remote control room with the main electronics for simultaneous use of the Hanabi resources in multiple locations.

The other For-A products in use are the GearLink integrated control software, four Insight 212 video servers, two ClassX Pro 12G character generators, MFR-6000 and MFR-3000 routing switchers, a MV-4310 multiviewer, 18 FA-9600 signal processors and six USF-212AS universal system frames.
