PARIS—Ateme has announced that the Indonesian public broadcaster TVRI is making the transition to 4K UHD OTT streaming using Ateme technologies. 

For the upgrade and the launch of its first 4K UHD OTT channel, TVRI, Indonesia's national public broadcasting organization, selected Ateme's Gen 7 video encoding and low latency streaming solutions.  With Ateme's Just-In-Time Packager Origin, TVRI is able to seamlessly deliver the new streaming offerings while embracing future-proof technologies such as AV1 and VVC.

The release of Superman Web3 Movie Experience follows the 2022 first-of-its-kind Web3 entertainment offering The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Edition) Web3 Movie Experience.

The studio explained that the Superman Web3 Movie Experience is a multimedia NFT that allows fans to own and to engage with the 1978 Richard Donner film starring Christopher Reeves. AMSTERDAM—Insight TV today announced the launch of Insight TV 4K across Comcast’s entertainment platforms, including Xfinity X1, Xfinity Flex and the company’s  new XClass TV. 

Insight TV 4K is the first  UHD HDR standalone SVOD service available to Xfinity and XClass TV customers, the streamer said. 

"We are proud to be the first branded 4K-only SVOD offering available across Comcast’s entertainment platforms,” said Graeme Stanley, chief commercial officer, Insight TV. “As we continue to expand our reach in the U.S. we are excited to be working the incredible team at Comcast to reach our millennial and Gen-Z target audience."  

The service focuses on reaching 18–34-year-old consumers across direct to consumer platforms. The launch on Comcast brings the number of mobile and digital platforms carrying Insight TV UHD around the world to 111, with more on their way, the company said.

BEIJING—Online Chinese video service iQiyi has selected an end-to-end Grass Valley workflow for its Outside Broadcast (OB) van upgrade, driving 4K UHD content production for its streaming audiences, which together total more than 100 million subscribers.

The upgrade includes a suite of future-ready IP-based live production solutions to support 4K UHD production of live entertainment, Grass Valley said.

During the summer, iQiyi purchased a range of Grass Valley LDX86N cameras for its OB fleet to provide 4K UHD and HDR image capture. The cameras can be switched effortlessly between HD and 4K UHD formats based the requirements of individual shows, it said.

Grass Valley’s Karrera K-Frame production switcher provides multiformat support for iQiyi’s production environments. GV Node, Grass Valley’s real-time routing and processing solution, and the Densite 3+ FR4 signal processing frame underpin the IP live production workflow, it said.

The GV Stratus toolset will give iQiyi the means to upgrade and simplify its video production and content management workflows, which is necessary for getting live content on-air across multiple platforms and devices, Grass Valley said.

TORRANCE, Calif.—Marshall Electronics will introduce the CV420-30X 12G-SDI camera at the 2021 NAB Show, Oct. 9-13, in Las Vegas.

The new camera, which offers simultaneous 12G-SDI, HDMI and IP (HEVC/SRT) outputs, is well-suited to a variety of broadcast and professional AV workflows, it said.

Using a high-performance Sony Exmor-R sensor to capture 4K UHD video at up to 3840x2146 60fps, the camera offers a 30x optical zoom range. The CV420-30X is designed for ease of use, making it valuable for uses in live broadcast, house of worship, sports, news, reality TV and other applications, the company said.

The camera’s 30x optical zoom lens offers an extended zoom range from 4.6mm to 135mm, starting at just under a 70-degree horizontal angle of view to 3 degrees while maintaining image crispness from ultra-wide to ultra-long telephoto shots. The camera also offers exceptional low-light sensitivity, it said.

LOS ANGELES—Sony has unveiled Bravia Core, a new streaming service offering more than 300 movies in up to 4K UHD HDR quality for its Bravia XR televisions.

The service, included with every Bravia XR model, delivers “lossless UHD viewing quality” via Pure Stream, a Sony technology supporting streams of up to 80 Mbps, said Keith LeGoy, president, Worldwide Distribution & Networks, Sony Pictures Television.   

“Pure Stream is the highest streaming picture quality available on Bravia XR television,” said Bill Baggelaar, executive vice president and CTO, Technology Development, at Sony Pictures Entertainment, adding that 80 Mbps will deliver the same picture quality as a 4K UHD Blu-ray disc.

With Bravia Core, viewers can access more than 100 remastered IMAX Enhanced pictures with immersive DTS sound from their Bravia XR televisions as well as hundreds of more current releases and classics from Sony’s extensive movie library, the company said. 

Bravia XR leverages “cognitive processor technology” that combines AI and cognitive intelligence to deliver the images, the company said.

Sony is also bundling Studio Access, a feature offering behind-the-scenes footage and interviews, as part of Bravia Core.

Movies are accessed by redeeming movie credits. In the U.S. and Canada, 10 movie credits are included with the purchase of several Bravia XR TV models, including the Z9J, A90J, A80CJ and X90CJ. Five movie credits are bundled with other eligible Bravia TVs.

LAS VEGAS–At the 2018 NAB Show, Friend MTS, a U.K.-based provider of content and revenue protection technology, launched a 4K/UHD variant of its ASiD service for subscriber level watermarking, to protect premium sports and entertainment content from streaming piracy sourced from set-top boxes and OTT players.

The automated ASiD global monitoring and watermarking service allows scaling for the largest live sports events, which can generate thousands of pirate streams. By connecting directly with pay TV operators’ subscriber management systems, ASiD deactivates thousands of pirate streams within minutes, preventing content theft and allowing broadcasters and rights owners to maximize their audiences and revenues.

A key service within Friend MTS’ portfolio, the ASiD global channel monitoring uses fingerprint-based content recognition to identify broadcasters’ assets in seconds. This monitoring connects with the invisible watermarking extraction to precisely identify subscribers who are responsible for streaming piracy. 

NEW YORK—BBC Home Entertainment is giving fans to bring “Planet Earth II” home in 4K UHD Blu-ray starting on March 28 in the U.S. and Canada.

“Planet Earth II” captured an exploration of islands, mountains, jungles, grasslands, deserts and cities across the world in 4K UHD. Filmed in 40 different countries over three years, the footage was shot in 4K resolution with HDR and a wide color gamut spectrum, as well as 5.1 DTS-HD master audio.

In addition to more than 360 minutes of content from the original episodes, the Blu-ray and DVD will also offer “Planet Earth Diaries,” a behind-the-scenes look of each episode’s production team and the challenges they faced. These clips were also shot in 4K.

BBC Home Entertainment will offer the three-disc UHD set for $59.99 and the two-disc Blu-Ray and DVD set for $44.95 and $35.99 respectively.
