NEWBURY PARK, Calif.—360 Systems has released DigiCart 5, its next-generation audio playout system designed with a modern workflow in mind.

Originally designed more than 30 years ago, this fifth-generation device improves on the company’s longest-running audio product. The new design takes what made the original product popular and modernizes it, simplifying operation to support a more efficient, IT centric workflow, the company said.

Incorporating a large color touchscreen and RGB backlit keys for easy reading of operational status, DigiCart 5 offers additional hotkeys on the front panel when compared to previous versions to enable instant audio playout, it said.

DigiCart 5 provides new network features for additional control and to make it easier to transfer content on and off the system. It enables FTP or file sharing to be used to view and update content on the system from a computer. Mapping a network share directly from the DigiCart 5 is also supported. Users without a network can transfer files via a standard USB key, it said.

For even faster playout, clips can be played directly off the USB key or even from the mapped network drive, it said.

LAS VEGAS—The 360 Systems booth on the 2019 NAB Show floor will be featuring one of the latest servers available from the company, the TSS 1080p Variable Time Delay Server. This new server features the same functionality as the TSS 2470II but also is able to support 1080p format.

The TSS 1080P is designed to simplify changing the output delay time, as well as providing transport controls and four programmable quick set buttons. Using 10-bit H.264 encoding at 100Mbps the server is able to provide full 1080p HD video resolution for the rebroadcasting live sporting events, eSports and other content.

Additional features of the TSS 1080P includes HDSDI, SDSDI compatibility; is configurable for 29.97/59.94 or 25/50 fps operation; frame accurate delay; delay feed from 30 seconds to 24 hours; an outplay channel that can pause, variplay, jog, locate or play within the recorded time; has live feed monitor and delay outputs; GPIO control compatibility; and a Linux-based OS.

NEWBURY PARK, CA.—360 Systems has introduced the TSS 2470II, an HD & SD SDI compatible Variable Time Delay server that can alter delay time on-the-fly without loss of any currently recorded material. It can simple time zone shifting to "mountain minute" style commercial insertion, schedule alterations of live events or disaster recovery operations. It features four adjustable Delay Presets and traditional jog/shuttle to allow the user to locate to position within the delayed program from 30 seconds to a day or more. (Storage options are available for up to 1 week in HD resolutions).

The TSS-2470II can also be controlled remotely with the 360 Systems free Remote Workstation software or with the use of GPIO triggers. Other features include a live feed monitor output, high-quality 10 bit video, up to 16 channels of 24 bit embedded audio and support for closed captions and other VANC data.

The TSS-2470 II supports all broadcast formats–720p, 1080i and NTSC/PAL at frame rates of 29.97/59.94 or 25/50 Hz. Because the TSS-2470 II transports high-value program content, it employs a four-drive, RAID 5 disk array for enhanced reliability. Drives and dual power supplies are hot swappable, allowing the system to continue running without downtime. The Linux-based device occupies 1RU and features low power consumption and multiple fan forced-air cooling.

POCATELLO, IDAHO—Give students the right instruction and the right tools, and they will flourish. In a collaboration between the professional and educational worlds, these are the guiding principles here at Idaho Public Television and Idaho State University, where broadcasting students are getting a leg up in the industry with broadcast studio-quality, high definition broadcast television equipment to learn in a real-world, hands-on environment.

ISU is the broadcast home for KISUTV, which operates from studio and office facilities located within the Kegel Liberal Arts Building on the university’s campus in Pocatello. It is the East Idaho presence of Idaho Public Television, a statewide, non-commercial broadcast telecommunication system and new media provider that has been serving Idahoans for 50 years.

GOING BIG IN A SMALL MARKET
Although our Idaho Falls-Pocatello market ranks 162nd as a Nielsen DMA among 210 U.S. markets, our production facility at KISU-TV is more in line with what one would expect to find in a large market television station. The audio console, production switcher, cameras with remote CCU’s, intercom and router all emulate the environment of larger market television production. It is an efficiently designed facility, with products and technologies that fit the realities of television today, that is, “doing more with less.”

A perfect example of this is 360 Systems’ TSS series multiformat, HD/SD, record and playout video servers used at KISU-TV for teaching television production. Unlike at some schools, ISU’s Communication, Media, and Persuasion program gives its students hands-on-experience with broadcast-quality equipment from their very first year.

The next generation of TV station systems will be IP video-centric, and it is reassuring to know 360 Systems has IP-ready server products, with the TSS IP-2200, offering SMPTE 2022 IP video recording and playout now, with SMPTE 2110 support soon to follow. But, in the meantime, it is critical for ISU students to learn the basics of the production chain—from cameras and sound to the mixing and switching of video sources—to put together a modern, broadcast-quality production. The students who train with pro gear today will be the ones the pros want to hire tomorrow.

NORTHRIDGE, CALIF.—A collaboration between DNF Controls and 360 Systems will create a new systems bundle for scheduled record/playout of video server-based program and commercial content. The bundle combines DNF’s SPS server management series and 360’s TSS video server series.

SPS 4200

The SPS is a server management system for calendar-based acquisition and play-to-air scheduling. It offers time-of-day, back-to-back, manual and remotely triggered playout, as well as secondary events using GPI/O or optional protocols to control routers, master control switchers and graphics. It also has drag and drop functionality for playlist modification, even when a list is running.

The combined DNF/360 bundle is now available.

LAS VEGAS—There will be a new addition to 360 System’s TSS server line on display at the 2017 NAB Show, the TSS IP-2200.

The TSS IP-2200 video server offers two broadcast quality channels that record or play video over IP. The initial release of the server will support SMPTE 2022, with the ability to upgrade to SMPTE 2110 once it is ratified. With the TSS IP-2200, customers will be able to navigate from SDI to IP. The server is also HD/SD compatible with real-time up/down conversion, features standard codecs for file formats like H.264 and MPEG-2 in mxf, mp4 or mpg containers and offers redundant cooling and power supplies.

Current customers for the TSS Mini-2100 or 2200 are expected to be able to convert to the TSS IP 2200 version in the future.

NEW YORK—360 Systems is going small at this year’s NAB Show New York, providing attendees a look at its new TSS Mini-2100 and 2200 servers. Both models provide the same features of the TSS full size servers, but are 30 percent shorter according to the company.

The TSS Mini-2100 features one bi-directional and one playout channel, while the TSS Mini-2200 offers two bi-directional channels with record or playout options. The models feature redundant cooling and power, an intuitive graphic user interface, and HDSDI and SDSDI compatibility.
