NEW YORK—Triveni Digital has unveiled what it will be bringing to this year’s NAB Show New York, taking place Oct. 16-17, and leading the way are updates to its end-to-end ATSC 3.0 systems to help broadcasters with the impending ATSC 3.0 transition, including enhancements to the company’s StreamScope line, the GuideBuilder transport encoder and Advanced Emergency Alert Editor.

New features have been added to the StreamScope XM Verifier software application for receiving, verifying and recording ATSC 3.0 broadcast streams via ROUTE, MMTP or SLTP protocols. Among the new updates is support for multiple PLPs within a broadcast transmission. The StreamScope XM Verifier also now has a range of RF advancements to improve analysis and visibility into ATSC 3.0 quality of service.

Triveni will also demonstrate how its products can control and distribute interactive emergency applications and information in an ATSC 3.0 environment. This new solution is comprised of Triveni’s AEA Editor and GuideBuilder XM ATSC 3.0 transport encoder, as well as Digital Alert Systems’ DASDEC emergency messaging platform and a software receiver from Alticast. It also has user-interface templates based on AWARN focus groups and developed in support with NAB Pilot.

Triveni and Alticast also collaborated on a new system that enables an interactive viewing experience based on ATSC 3.0 capabilities. A demo at NAB Show New York, developed with Michigan State University’s WKAR-TV PBS station, will show how the educational viewing experience can be enhanced with next-gen TV interactive content and companion device features. The system is powered by Alticast’s software receiver and Triveni’s end-to-end ATSC 3.0 broadcast service delivery system.

NEW YORK—Ikegami will arrive in New York City this week for the 2019 NAB Show New York conference with a number of its camera and monitor products that highlight its 4K and CMOS technologies.

One of the products will be the UHK-430 4K camera that is designed for use in both the studio and field and features three 2/3-inch 4K CMOS sensors with RGB prism optics. The camera also comes with AXII ASIC for low power and digital signal processing features and to provide 16-axis color correction from a 3D linear matrix. Other features include five Custom Gamma memories for HDR, 40G transmission, uncompressed 4:4:4 resolution RGB transmission, eight HD channels from CCU to camera, an HD trunk channel from camera to CCU, a Gigabit Ethernet connection and a plug-in output module for 4K signal formats like Quad 3G, 12G and IP.

Another camera tapped for the conference is the HDK-99 3G full digital 3-CMOS HDTV portable camera that has three 2.6 megapixel CMOS image sensors for full HD 1920x1080 resolution. It also features a 600% wide dynamic range and HLG mode that conforms to the ITU-R BT.2100.

On the monitor side, Ikegami will showcase its HQLM-3125X 31-inch 4K/HD multiformat LCD master monitor with a direct backlit 4096x2160 pixel 10-bit resolution UHD LCD panel and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. There is also the HLM-2460W 24-inch HDTV/SDTV full HD pixel multiformat LCD color monitor with a 24-inch full HD 1920x1080 pixel 400cd, 10-bit resolution LCD panel and the ULE-217-HDR 21.5-inch full resolution HDR LCD broadcast monitor that provides HDR display with a 3G/HD-SDI and HDMI interface.

NEW YORK—LTN will make the most of its time at NAB Show New York, showcasing different technologies and sharing their expertise during presentations.

LTN’s Crystal Division will be on hand to demonstrate its AdConnect system designed to enable TV ad inventory owners to sell addressable advertising on any platform and improve content monetization. NEW YORK—Leyard will unveil a 1.2 millimeter fine pixel pitch model to the company’s Leyard TVF Series LED video wall line at NAB Show New York, Oct. 16–17. The Leyard TVF 1.2 millimeter model delivers clear, crisp images at nearly every angle and viewing distance. It also allows commentators to distinguish and describe content standing very close to the video wall.

NEW YORK—Panasonic will feature a next-generation IP/IT platform, 12G-SDI 4K live switcher and 4K/HDR shoulder-mount camcorder at the 2019 NAB Show New York, Oct. 16-17, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.

Targeted for a 2020 launch, the next-generation IP/IT-centric platform is based on an open software architecture. Full resolution and format-independent, the platform allows users to allocate processing power with 100% efficiency and achieve a level of performance not possible with traditional hardware-based products. The platform supports one-frame latency processing, Panasonic said.

It also supports uncompressed processing, uncompressed 4K inputs and baseband as well as IP signals, including SMPTE ST 2110 and NDI, simultaneously. It can be used for remote production as well as being integrated into a full IP-based environment, the company said.

Panasonic has designed a fully customizable GUI interface for the platform that enables users to manage an unlimited number of video layers.

The company’s new AV-UHS500 4K live compact switcher is 12G-SDI-compatible. It is designed for use at broadcast stations and in OB vans, houses of worship and in educational lecture and conference halls.

The switcher, scheduled for a February 2020 release, provides for multiformat 4K/3G/HD switching. It offers an equal number of HD inputs and outputs even when operating in 4K, the company said. Additional optional boards can be added to expand inputs to as many as 16 SDI or eight HDMI inputs. Five keyers are built-in, including two chromakey channels and two channels of picture-in-picture.

The AV-UHS500 also supports up and down conversion, HDR-SDR conversion and ITU-R BT.2020/BT.709 color space conversion.

Panasonic’s new AJ-CX4000 4K/HDR shoulder-mount camcorder, scheduled for a December launch, is a B4 lens mount model supporting interchangeable lens for network news, sports, nature films and travel documentaries.

Equipped with a large-sized 11MP image sensor, the camera enables high-quality 4K recording with 2,000 TV lines of horizontal resolution. Supporting HDR compliant BT.2100 and BT.2020, the camera can be used in a fast, connected workflow, including RTMPS and RTSP for live streaming and NDI/HX for live production.

The camera’s HEVC codec provides for extended recording with 4K/10-bit high image quality while keeping storage requirements under control. The camera can also record with the P2 MXF AVC ULTRA codec onto fast, reliable expressP2 cards, cost-effective microP2 cards or low-cost SDXC memory cards. UHD 60p/50p 10-bit 4:2:2 output via a 12G-SDI output is also possible.

NEW YORK—MAM specialist Tedial will show the latest enhancements for its media asset management platforms, including the addition of sports configurations for its SmartLive MAM, at the 2019 NAB Show New York, Oct. 16-17, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan.

The company will show SmartLive Multi Sport, an enhancement that makes it easy to add new sports configurations to the SmartLive MAM. Agnostic to all data feeds, the new feature makes it quick and easy to create highlights in a multisport environment without adding extra staff and equipment, the company said.

Another enhancement for SmartLive and the company’s Evolution MAM is a new module that allows content to be published to any social network with a single click, the company said.

NEW YORK—Phabrix will demonstrate its range of hybrid IP/SDI, 4K/UHD and HDR/WCG instruments at the NAB Show New York, held Oct. 16–17.

PHABRIX will show the latest ST 2110 developments to its flagship Qx Series, offering hybrid IP/SDI test and measurement tools. The Qx family (Qx 10G IP and QxL 25G IP) offers ST 2110 (-20, -30, -31, -40), two-port ST 2059 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) and ST 2022-7 seamless protection. The company says it provides simultaneous monitoring of one video, two audio and one ANC data flow in up to 16 active and scalable windows. The two audio flows each support up to 10 channels at 1ms and up to 80 channels at 125us packet time with either PCM or AES3 Transport. The core feature set also includes operator status information for PTP, 2022-7 reconstruction and the timing relationship of flows to PTP.

The new Qx ST 2110 advanced engineering IP measurement features include the measurement of ST 2110-21 network compatibility and virtual receiver buffer models, advanced PTP to Flow timing and latency measurements, as well as Inter-Packet Arrival Times for all flows that contribute to the ST 2022-7 seamless reconstruction.

The new TR-1001-1 toolset available on the Qx rasterizer provides support for AMWA NMOS IS-04 Discovery and Registration and IS-05 Connection Management with DHCP, DNS Service Discovery, LLDP, SDP and PTP System Resource.

NEW YORK—Lawo will be at NAB Show New York to demonstrate its virtual module (vm) for the V_matrix platform, which provides format conversion between SD, HD and 4K formats, plus audio embedding/de-embedding, frame-sync and color correction.

The vm_udx provides four independent paths of format conversion between SD, HD and 4K for IP and/or SDI signals. Conversion between SD and HD formats uses one path while conversion to/from 4K uses four paths.

Each path provides video framesync and audio sample rate conversion as well as audio and video delay functionality. According to the company, every path also has audio embedding/de-embedding capabilities with audio gain, surround-to-stereo downmix (5.1 and 7.1) and x/y-fade functionality for outputs.

A 5,312x5,312 mono audio router provides room for audio embedding/de-embedding to video as well as pure audio channel reshuffling if desired. Broadcast quality RGB and YUV color correction is provided for every processing path. An additional four independent paths for a total of eight are available with the +4UDX option that can be added at any time.

Fundamentally designed with IP networking in mind vm_udx supports both ST2022-6 and ST2110-20 IP video as well as ST2110-30/AES67 and RAVENNA IP audio streams.

ACCESS NX is an IP audio codec that the company says is made to go anywhere. Designed as a platform for CrossLock, a custom reliability layer, ACCESS NX can send and receive high-quality audio over even the most marginal networks.

NEW YORK—Telestream’s offerings at the upcoming NAB Show New York will give attendees a look at what the company can provide from production to distribution. A particular focus for Telestream’s latest products will be the adoption of 4K technology.

To help with production needs, Telestream will have its Prism monitoring and analysis platform that is engineered for IP, SDI and hybrid workflows involving HD, 4K, HDR and WCG. The Prism unit that will be shown comes with new features like false color, HDR measurement tools and support for 25G networks.

The Vantage Media Processing Platform is meant to help with postproduction, featuring automated ingest, media processing and postproduction workflow automation. One of the components of the Vantage platform is the Vantage Media Manager, which provides a user interface for Mac and Windows-based creative editorial to browse, preview, tag and submit jobs for processing. The Vantage platform also provides GPU-accelerated multiscreen transcoding and automated content assembly while handling 4K+, HDR and Dolby Vision formats. Additional features include delivering final masters in IMF and being able to automatically process in the cloud via Vantage Cloud Port.

Telestream has a number of video quality assurance products that it will showcase, including Vidchecker and Aurora for file-based QC and correction. In addition, Telestream iQ and Sentry are designed to ensure viewers’ video experience with hardware or virtualized probes.

On the distribution side, Telestream has products to assist with live streaming, like the OptiQ Monitor, a subscription, pay-as-you-go cloud-native system that provides real-time deployment of live ABR monitoring for real-time video QoE analysis and a comprehensive view of CDN delivery network QoS performance. The OptiQ Channel system, meanwhile, enables the creation of new OTT channels from cloud-deployed infrastructure.

Telestream’s Wirecast Gear will also show its latest features, which include more CPU cores, higher clock speeds, faster RAM and the latest NVMe storage, will be shown at Broadfield’s booth (N121).

NEW YORK—Cobalt Digital will showcase a number of its card-based solutions for openGear frames, including its new 9992-DEC Series of HEVC/AVC/MPEG-2 decoders. A companion technology to the company’s 9992-ENC Series of encoders, the flexible 9992-DEC Series supports up to 4K resolution with audio decoding capabilities. Plus, its pay-as-you-go licensing means users only pay for required features when needed. The series includes the 9992-2DEC dual-channel decoder, as well as the 9992-DEC-4K-HEVC with single-channel 4K or dual-channel 2K and support for H.265.

Cobalt also will demonstrate its new SafeLink software, which protects the transport of live video and audio data over unsecure networks. Through the use of the RIST protocol, the company says SafeLink eliminates video glitches and provides reliable video transport, even in live production environments that may experience network delay. SafeLink supports a variety of compression standards and up to eight discrete transmit and receive paths. The software can be installed on most computers or Cobalt’s openGear OG-PC-x86 platform, and is controlled through Cobalt’s DashBoard control and monitoring application.

For HDR content, the new SL-HDR Decoder feature for the 9904-UDX-4K provides SDR-to-HDR conversion using SL-HDR technology, which allows broadcasters to distribute SDR and HDR content over the same signal. Once an SDR signal has been processed through Cobalt’s SL-HDR Encoder, the SL-HDR Decoder software uses the metadata within the signal to reconstruct an HDR picture for compatible devices.

NEW YORK—TVU Networks will introduce its TVU Talkshow all-in-one live event production solution at the NAB Show New York, Oct. 16-17 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in Manhattan. The company will also feature its TVU MediaMind integrated, automated story-centric workflow solution, as well as a package designed for freelancers that could open to more than 3,000 TVU customers.

During the convention, the company will demo TVU Talkshow live between its booth and a remote location. The new product elevates audience engagement by allowing people to participate in live events or hosted shows by using the TVU Talkshow mobile app, TVU Networks said. Integrated caller management allows producers to pre-screen callers. It also supports IFB to allow bidirectional communications between hosts and callers as well as production crews and camera operators, it said.

With a single button click, TVU Talkshow allows users to deliver video content to multiple locations, such as content delivery networks, social media platforms, web pagers and TV stations using the TVU Grid. SDI video output is available via a TVU receiver, the company said.

The company’s presentation of its TVU MediaMind will demonstrate how artificial intelligence is used to tag media assets with metadata as they move from acquisition to distribution. With TVU MediaMind broadcasters can organize and track content, making it simple to produce content for various platforms and thus increasing productivity and the opportunity to monetize raw video.

NEW YORK—Artel Video Systems will feature products at NAB Show New York to help broadcasters shift to hybrid IP/SDI and all-IP operations. Attendees will have the opportunity to see new features and capabilities recently added to the company's SMART Media Delivery Platform. The platform is a carrier-grade, four-channel, auto-sense 3G/HD/SD-SDI-over-IP multifunction gateway with integrated non-blocking Layer 2/3 switching and routing capabilities.

The software-enabled solution features four video ports for transport of video, audio and ancillary data and four GigE data ports bridged to one or two 10G interfaces. Designed to attach to the IP network without the need for external network elements, the SMART platform supports SMPTE ST 2022: 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7 hitless switching; J2K compression; QoS; VLAN tagging; and traffic management.

Designed for audio/video broadcast, defense and security, telecom and enterprise IT applications in which accurate timing and control are required, Artel's Quarra family of PTP-aware managed IP switches will also be on display. NEW YORK—VidOvation, which in addition to manufacturing its own products reps a number of other brands, has a full lineup on display for the 2019 NAB Show New York, which will take place from Oct. 16-17 at the Javits Convention Center.

First, under its namesake banner, the company will demonstrate VidOvation TV, a turn-key enterprise IPTV and digital signage system that now includes full integration of DirecTV content. The integration enables an end-to-end IPTV system with DirecTV, digital rights management, video on-demand and digital video recording with streaming to smartphones, tablets, desktop players, displays, smart TVs and set-top boxes.

Aviwest products that will be set up at the booth include the Safe Streams Transport protocol, Pro3 and Air series and the Pro380 HEVC bi-directional video uplink system. The SST protocol aggregates multiple IP links and features new functionalities for live video production and distribution like data hotspot, remote control, video return and an intercom. Each of the Pro3 and Air series products will also be shown with new hot folder and high-speed data hotspot feature incorporated. Another VidOvation client that will be in the booth is ABonAir and its Wireless Teleprompter and Video Return system. The mobile wireless system is based around the usage of the same single link that incorporates a teleprompter, video return, CCU and intercom so a crew can use all the functions of a wireless camera like a wired camera. This includes latency delays reduced to 7 milliseconds for live content or multicamera productions.

V-Nova also has a presence at the show, touting its PPro AI-powered software library for encoding and decoding SMPTE VC-6. There will also be the P+, a software library for encoding and decoding enhanced video streams with MPEG-5 part two, otherwise known as low-complexity video enhancement coding (LCEVC).

Meanwhile, AlphaEye will bring its real-time, wide-angle lens distortion corrector to fix distortion and curvilinear perspective errors.

NEW YORK—MultiDyne will demonstrate its legacy SMPTE-HUT system at the upcoming NAB Show New York, Oct. 16-17. The company says the universal camera transceiver will free camera operators from the limitations of hybrid cabling. The latest iteration streamlines connectivity, reducing the dual-strand architecture to a single fiber strand. The latest SMPTE-HUT generation also integrates optical budgeting and remote power cycling, removing the need for external docks to regenerate signals for long-distance camera-to-studio transmission.

MultiDyne will also present its expanded range of audio monitoring and conversion solutions through its acquisition of Census Digital. One demonstration includes the C16V-2, a compact, lightweight and cost-effective 2RU, SDI-embedded audio and video monitoring system. The C16V-2 provides visual and aural monitoring of 16 audio channels from an SDI signal, and provides an LCD display of the video signal for confidence monitoring. The C16V-2 includes an intuitive user interface for easy access to signals and information, as well as 12 illuminated pushbuttons for channel source and mode selection for on-the-fly monitoring.

MultiDyne’s mobile marketing van, which the company will equip with its latest fiber transport, conversion and compression solutions, will also be on display in the company’s booth N937.

NEW YORK—During hurricanes or other emergencies, natural or otherwise, broadcasters are often the first informers and key resources for many. At this year’s NAB Show New York, the opening keynote session will focus on this important role with ABC News Chief Meteorologist Ginger Zee and NAB’s President and CEO Gordon Smith.

Zee is an Emmy Award-winning meteorologist that covers weather for “Good Morning America” and on ABC News broadcasts and digital platforms. Zee has a wide range of experience covering weather locally and nationally, including for historic weather events like Hurricane Sandy and Katrina, the California wildfires and the 2013 Boston blizzard.

In addition to broadcasters’ job of keeping viewers appraised of vital news like the weather, Zee and Smith will also discuss the science of meteorology and technical advances in weather reporting, including augmented reality.

“Ginger Zee has guided viewers through some of the most devastating storms in recent history, both on the local and national level,” said Smith. “Her ingenuity and popularity have propelled her career, and her commitment to providing critical weather information serves as a lifeline to ABC viewers.”

Zee and Smith’s session will take place on the opening day of NAB Show New York, Oct. 16. The conference takes place from Oct. 16-17 at the Javits Convention Center. 

NEW YORK—Hitachi Kokusai will unveil the CU-HD550 camera control unit (CCU) and CA-HF550 camera adapter at the upcoming NAB Show New York on Oct. 16–17. The CU-HD550 and CA-HF550 are compatible with all Hitachi 1080p and 1080i Z and SK-series HDTV cameras. The new accessories combine with Hitachi Kokusai’s 1080p60-native studio and field production camera heads, including the Z-HD5500 and recently introduced SK-HD1800.

According to the company, the CU-HD550/CA-HF550 combination offers a lower-cost entry point to production for customers who don’t require the advanced expansion options and extra I/O connections of the flagship CU-HD1300 CCU series.

Compatible with both the new CU-HD550 and existing Hitachi CCU models, the CA-HF550 transmits video, audio, power and control over SMPTE 304M fiber between the camera and CCU. Two HD-SDI connections on the CA-HF550 provide video output at the camera end and can be switched between camera, prompter and return video. The CA-HF550 also provides AC power at the camera head to drive both a prompter and floor monitor through the fiber cable.

The fiber-connected CU-HD550 combines multiformat SDI inputs and outputs with intercom, return video, teleprompter, tally and remote-control interfaces in a heavy-duty 2RU form factor. An RJ-45 network port enables IP-based control, including integration with Ross Video’s open DashBoard control platform.

Also on display will be Hitachi Kokusai’s SK-HD1800 studio and field production camera. The feature-packed, 1080p SK-HD1800 combines the advanced, global shutter CMOS imaging technology first implemented in the company’s popular Z-HD5500 camera with a motorized, remote filter wheel to deliver image quality for mobile and event-based productions.

The new camera adapter and CCU are slated for release in January. The company will exhibit them in booth N438.

NEW YORK—The focus for Mediaproxy at this year’s NAB Show New York, Oct. 16-17, will be compliance and monitoring for linear television and OTT streaming, and it will demonstrate its capabilities in these areas with the latest version of the LogServer IP logging, monitoring and analysis system.

The LogServer system is designed to handle higher resolutions by converting any input, including 8K, to a proxy resolution. This also accommodates HEVC and TSoIP encoded streams.

Dedicated interactivity tools have also been incorporated into the LogServer platform, including features for cropping the image and altering the aspect ratio to better work with mobile devices, as well as the ability to insert ad bumpers.

Mediaproxy will also demonstrate exception-based monitoring, which uses IP penalty boxes for dealing with quality control and compliance. There is also a live source comparison tool that identifies mismatched content in real time and can compare one or more live sources using video material, with an alert being sent to operators when an irregularity is detected.

In addition, LogServer supports SMPTE ST 2110 media over IP formats and NewTek’s NDI technology.

NEW YORK—VoiceInteraction will be on the NAB Show New York exhibit floor to highlight how its speech processing technology is being deployed in a pair of products: a Media Monitoring System and the Audimus.Media closed captioning platform.

It’s newest feature enables it to add closed captions into live video streams encoded with the AV1 video codec in addition to previous supported codecs MPEG2, H.264 and H.265.

NEW YORK—The 2019 NAB Show New York will serve as one of the first opportunities for industry professionals to get a look at Digigram’s new portable IP audio codec for live remote broadcasting, the IQOYA Talk. The unit is equipped with Digigram’s Fluid IP technology for error corrections and dual streaming technologies.

Digigram designed the IQOYA Talk for ease of use, featuring a user interface designed for “non-technicals” and enabling users to perform operations like live reporting and commentary, studio-quality interviews for up to four reporters and guests, and audio content being able to be streamed through a large number of wired or wireless “last mile” connections.

Additional features of the IQOYA Talk include 11 inputs/10 outputs, an intuitive iPhone/Android hook up, three mic-line inputs and four headphone outputs and an adaptable software. Built-in connectivities are available with the platform, including dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, Wi-Fi connectivity and a dual built-in 3G/LTE/4G module. Up to 12H autonomy is achieved through two independent hot-swappable batteries.

Digigram will display the IQOYA Talk, as well as other products, at its booth, N157, throughout NAB Show New York, taking place Oct. 16-17 at the Javits Convention Center.

NEW YORK—The NAB Show New York will serve as the background for Enco to showcase its latest advances with machine learning for the enCaption4 automated live captioning system and enTranslate automated live translation systems designed to help hard-of-hearing and non-native-speaking audiences.

The enCaption4 is used to automate and augment live or pre-recorded content with closed or open captions in near real time. New features on display include advanced punctuation capabilities that enhance the accuracy and readability of transcriptions for full stops, commas, exclamation marks and question marks in English, German, Spanish and French. Enco describes the system as being able to detect the context of sentences to insert the appropriate punctuation and capitalization. Other new features offered are an enhanced scheduling interface, a web API for third-party integration and additional boosts to accuracy and speed.

The same speech-to-text engine in the enCaption4 is used in the enTranslate system, featuring advanced translation technology powered by Veritone. The enTranslate platform provides subtitles and secondary or tertiary closed captions in alternative languages, while users can also embed translated captions in VOD content or show live. It features a Neural Machine Translation methodology that blends AI and sophisticated linguistics modelling to provide translations based on context of current words and phrases. There are 46 languages supported by enTranslate.

Enco will display these two platforms at its booth, N355, during NAB Show New York, Oct. 16-17 at the Javits Convention Center.

NEW YORK—The Next Gen TV standard has been a hot topic of discussion for the past several years at industry gatherings, but with ATSC 3.0 close to deployment in the U.S. this year’s NAB Show New York is putting an emphasis on the standard to provide information on a range of next-gen interests and potential issues.

On Wednesday, Oct. 16, ATSC 3.0 will be a key point of discussion in a pair of panels making up the TV2020: Monetizing the Future conference. “Investing in and Capitalizing on ATSC 3.0” is a panel that will feature a quartet of executives discussing just what implementing the next-gen standard might cost and when stations could begin profiting from it. “Diversifying Revenue Streams in 2020,” meanwhile, will look at how ATSC 3.0 can join the likes of OTT and podcasts as effective, alternative methods to boost revenue.

A trio of panels will take place on Thursday, Oct. 17, that look closer at the operational aspects of ATSC 3.0. The first is “The Nationwide ATSC 3.0 Emergency Alert Service Now Being Built in Korea.” As Korea has already started its deployment of Next Gen TV, members of Korea-based DigiCap, as well as an AWARN Alliance executive, will discuss that country’s use of ATSC 3.0 for emergency alerting and what the U.S. can learn from it.

Other topics of interest will include methods to secure content with ATSC 3.0 in the “Producing and Protecting Content in ATSC 3.0” panel and advertising issues in “ATSC 3.0 Ad Targeting: Deployment Timetable and Monetization Potential.”

NEW YORK—With the ability to deliver multiscreen experiences critical to the market, Interra Systems will put its focus at the 2019 NAB Show New York on how it delivers that experience with its range of quality control, monitoring, analysis and classification products.

A couple of the products on display will be the Baton ABR QC and Orion-OTT monitoring systems. Baton provides comprehensive QC checks, including ABR-specific checks for large volumes of VOD files encoded at different bit rates.

With Orion-OTT, content providers can proactively perform HTTP checks and monitor the quality of each stream. Specifically at NAB Show New York, Interra will demonstrate Orion-OTT for VOD and live event streaming, as well as Orion for real-time content monitoring and video analysis of linear channels. Features of the Orion-OTT system include ABR manifest file validation, audio-video checks and real-time alerts. There is also support for the latest standards in closed captions and ad insertion.

The Orion Central Manager platform set to be at the booth provides an aggregated view of linear and OTT services based on monitoring data collected by Orion and Orion-OTT. Alerts and QoE information for each video appears on one screen. New features include an updated architecture for near-real-time updates, real-time status of all channels across the network, channel performance trends and executive reports.

Interra has also made updates to its Baton platform, including a new Baton automated tool for lip sync detection and will show verification of audio with captions, photosensitive epilepsy testing and correction. Baton also supports the VAST format, HDR quality checks and setup in Amazon cloud and on-premises, as well as improved audio language and caption detection capabilities.

The Baton system can also be integrated with Winnow, Interra’s content classification and identification platform. Powered by AI/machine learning technologies, Winnow detects and tags content for violence, strong language, alcohol, guns and more based on user-defined rules.

Lastly, Interra will have its Vega media analyzer, a tool for standards compliance, debugging and in-depth analysis of encoded streams. New updates include support for the AV1 format with buffer analysis, JPEG format and OGG streams.

All of this will be available at Interra Systems’ booth, N839, during the 2019 NAB Show New York, which takes place from Oct. 16-17 at the Javits Convention Center.

NEW YORK—After a European showcase at IBC 2019, PlayBox’s latest technology will find itself under the bright lights of New York City with a spot on the exhibit floor of the 2019 NAB Show New York, Oct. 16-17 at the Javits Convention Center.

PlayBox will demonstrate its complete PlayBox Neo Channel-in-a-Box television branding and playout system with its latest software modules.

The Neo Channel-in-a-Box is available in 3U and 1U sizes, with the former able to support two HD channels or four SD channels, and the later supporting one HD or two SD channels. It can also be configured from a wide range of Neo-series software modules and optional accessories. The system enables users to perform tasks like content scheduling, promos, commercials, graphics preparation, subtitling and billing.

NEW YORK—IHSE’s setup at the 2019 NAB Show New York, set to take place Oct. 16-17 at the Javits Convention Center, will be headlined by a trio of products that bring new IP and 4K capabilities to the IHSE portfolio.

The first product is the R488 Secure IP Remote Access Gateway for KVM. This platform combines networked workstations and local computers under a single display management system. Designed to be used with IHSE’s Draco tera KVM switches, the unit is also compatible with the Draco vario extender series and Draco vario chassis. The R488 module also connects the KVM matrix to private or public TCP/IP networks. In addition, encrypted signal transmission via IP ensures protection of intellectual property.

Also new is the Draco ultra DP 240, a high-frequency extended that supports refresh rates up to 240Hz at full 1080p resolutions. Users can operate CPUs from devices remotely over a single duplex fiber cable. There is also support for 4K resolutions up to 120Hz.

IHSE rounds out its offerings with the Draco vario Remote IP-CPU extender module, an expansion of its Draco vario series. This virtual KVM system enables the integration of virtual servers into existing Draco tera KVM physical switch systems, creating a virtual environment where multiple operating systems and applications can be accessed from Draco KVM physical consoles.

NEW YORK—All that tap-tap-tap in the dance scenes of the Emmy-winning series “Fosse/Verdon” weren’t just the work of Sam Rockwell and Michelle Williams, but a team of foley artists who recreated and amplified the sounds of Broadway in the FX series. At this year’s NAB Show New York, members of the Alchemy Post Sound team that worked on the show will detail their efforts in a special panel discussion.

The panel, “All About Fosse,” will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 16, and will include Lead Foley Artist Leslie Bloome, Lead Foley Mixer Ryan Collison and Foley Artist Joanna Fang. Post Magazine Editor in Chief Linda Romanello will serve as the moderator.

“Foley sounds add depth to film and assist in further immersing audiences into the experience,” said Chris Brown, NAB’s executive vice president of conventions and business operations. “This unique session will reveal the unexpected methods behind creating enhanced ambient sound effects and the overall postproduction procedure that bring motion pictures to life.”

The 50-plus first-time exhibitors continue a trend of innovative companies doing business at NAB Show New York, where 30% of this year’s exhibiting companies are new to NAB Show New York within the last two years.

NEW YORK—Building on its family of FreeSpeak digital wireless intercom products, Clear-Com has announced that the new FreeSpeak Edge system will be on hand at the 2019 NAB Show New York, taking place from Oct. 16-17 at the Javits Convention Center.

Developed based on feedback from FreeSpeak II users, FreeSpeak Edge features a new 5GHz chipset that features an exclusive radio stack development optimized for intercom. It also is implementing state-of-the-art audio over IP developments in its architecture, using AES67 connections between the transceivers and the host intercom frame for flexible deployment.

With FreeSpeak Edge operating in the 5GHz band, it can be managed with frequency coordination for reduced interference while offering a range of RF channels. The higher frequencies provide more bandwidth for data that allows for finer control, additional audio channels, more robustness, lower latency and better audio quality.

FreeSpeak Edge can deliver 12kHz audio quality with ultra low latency and is able to support 100 beltpacks and 64 transceivers during productions. Users can combine the platform with the FreeSpeak II 1.9GHz and 2.4GHz systems to provide three bandwidths across a single unified communications system.

The uniquely designed transceivers and beltpacks for FreeSpeak Edge are meant to offer more customization and control to accommodate complex communication needs. The beltpack features asymmetrical concave/convex top buttons; eight programmable buttons; rotary controls on both sides; a master volume control and flashlight on the bottom; and a mic and speaker for headset-free or desktop operation. The transceiver can support up to 10 beltpacks and includes attenuation and external antennas for custom RF zones, as well as wall and mic stand mounting options.

Clear-Com will display the FreeSpeak Edge at its booth, N140, during NAB Show New York.

NEW YORK—Ross Video used the theme of “high impact, high efficiency” to describe what it offered earlier this year at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, and now it will do the same for its sister conference in New York, highlighting new and updated products for a range of professional production needs.

Ross’ slate of products for the 2019 NAB Show New York will serve a number of different markets, from news production to virtual and augmented reality technology. Here is a brief description of what the company will display for NAB Show NY attendees:

• The Tria+ UHD production server is an addition to the Abekas Tria production server line, with this new model providing two symmetrical 4K UHD video channels that can be configured as two-play, two-record or one-play and one-record.
• Coming as a result of Ross’ acquisition of Portalis, the pro-xi integrator enables control room operators to simultaneously view and actively control multiple computer systems from a single workstation.
• Voyage is a new graphics render engine for virtual studio/augmented reality applications and includes the UX v5, the latest version of Ross’ UX control system for virtual applications.

• Version 14 of the Inception newsroom computer system adds user definable workflows and customizations.
• The Ultricore BCS is a new Broadcast Control System that boosts scale and power to the Ultrix suite, and features the optional Ultricore IP license.
• Gator Toolbox is a new openGear card UHD up/down/cross converter and standards (frame rate) converter that features proc amps, color correction, region of interest and SDR/HDR.

NEW YORK—Brought into the Telestream family of products with the integration of Tektronix video test, monitoring and quality assurance systems, Telestream will put new updates to the Prism media processing platform front and center at this year's NAB Show New York, which runs from Oct. 16-17.

Prism is a hybrid IP/SDI media processing platform, and at NAB Show NY will be shown with its latest update that offers a new mixed media card that supports 25GE networks. This will allow existing installed units to be upgraded in the field while new units with the new mixed media card will just need a software upgrade. Both upgrade paths will be available for the same price. Now with a 25GE interface, Prism can provide support for a range of media networks, from SDI to 4K HDR and WGC.

The 25GE option is available in both Prism form factors, the 3RU 9-inch full touchscreen, MPI2-25, as well as the 1RU rasterizer, MPX2-25. Prism IP measurements are also available in all models. HDR/WGC features like STOP waveform, CIE charts and false color displays can be used for 4K content creation via 25GE.

Telestream will demonstrate this at its booth, N337, throughout NAB Show NY.

NEW YORK—Black Box will show its Remote App for the Emerald Unified KVM platform at this year's NAB Show New York, which the company says gives authorized users simultaneous remote access to one or more sources—PCs, servers or virtual machines—across an Emerald KVM network. 

Supporting multiple simultaneous connections for full-HD video up to 45 fps, the new Emerald Remote App is suitable for tasks such as remote process and applications monitoring. With authentication against the Boxilla KVM network manager from Black Box, the Remote App offers users a list of connections and provides access, just like a standard hardware-based system. According to the company, because the Remote App is not tethered to a fixed location, users can access the Emerald KVM network from anywhere using their own computers or laptops.

Black Box will also showcase the Emerald ZeroU DVI transmitter for the Emerald Unified KVM platform. A little bigger than a smartphone, the compact ZeroU transmitter works with the Emerald SE receiver with hardware housed securely in a corporate data center or in the cloud. Supporting visually lossless full HD DVI video up to 1920x1200 and requiring less than 40 Mbps of bandwidth for 1080p video, the transmitter brings connectivity to a variety of applications including broadcast, post production and more.

Black Box will demonstrate these products at its booth, N855, during NAB Show New York, Oct. 16-17.

NEW YORK—Wheatstone is expanding its Blade offerings with the StreamBlade, a WheatNet-IP appliance that accepts up to eight input steams of native WheatNet-IP audio directly from a soundcard or AoIP driver as well as RTP sources and can output each in four streams; providing up to 32 total streams per device.

Output choices include Opus, AAC and MP3 encoders. The company says it is cloud-ready and compatible with standard CDN and streaming platforms, including Icecast, Wowza and RTP.

The StreamBlade has on-board processing with a six-band parametric EQ, a five-band AGC, a two-band final limiter and a stereo width control.

Wheatstone says that the AGC is designed for streaming. Jeff Keith, senior product development engineer for Wheatstone’s audio processing line explains, “Fast time constants (compression) can add intermod sidebands around a sustained note or bass note, which the codec has to spend bits on instead of the signals that are actually part of the program. That can be bad for any stream, but it’s especially bad for low bit-rate streams that don’t have a lot of data bits to begin with.”

StreamBlade can be configured and managed from a laptop and web browser using WheatNet-IP Navigator software. The box has two Ethernet ports, one for direct connectivity into the WheatNet-IP audio network on one end and another for connectivity into a WAN for streaming to a CDN or other service provider.

Wheatstone will showcase the StreamBlade system at NAB Show New York at booth N167.

NEW YORK—The most obvious difference between NAB Show New York and its spring predecessor is the location, trading in the Las Vegas Strip for the towering skyscrapers of Manhattan. The scenery may not seem overly important as a differentiator, but as the theme of the 2019 NAB Show New York suggests—“Now Casting New Perspectives”—the change in location brings about something new to the fall conference.

“[The theme] represents the unique experience attendees and exhibitors can expect at NAB Show New York,” said Chris Brown, executive vice president of Conventions and Business Operations for NAB. “The one-of-a-kind event, by virtue of its location and timing, offers distinctive content, experiences and perspectives—even compared to NAB Show in Las Vegas.”

While covering popular industry topics like Next Gen TV, streaming and more, the show uses New York’s media community—a mix of media, production, advertising and digital brands, as well as a range of diverse and talented speakers—to provide “a more intimate and tailored experience,” as Brown describes it, than the globally focused conference in Las Vegas.

NEXT GEN TV ARRIVES IN NEW YORK

One of the major announcements coming out of Las Vegas was the news that 61 markets across the country, including all of the top 40, would begin to broadcast using the ATSC 3.0 standard by the end of 2020. We will be six months closer to that becoming a reality when NAB Show NY opens, so how will the next-gen standard be addressed?

Sam Matheny, NAB’s executive vice president of technology and chief technology officer, expects that attendees will be able to get new and in-depth insight on some of the plans for the implementation, including from station groups and consumer electronic companies that are launching Next Gen TV sets and receivers.

But what if you’re from one of those stations still working on your plan and attempting to figure out if you’re ready for the 2020 transition? That’s where ATSC itself plans to come in. The organization behind Next Gen TV is hosting its own booth and panel to address the question: “Am I ready?”

Though the standard has been stable since it was finalized in 2018, as its deployment gets closer, stations are now beginning to contemplate more of how ATSC 3.0 will impact them.

“With little kids, the best time to give them information is when they ask because that’s when they’re ready to receive the information. I think it’s also true in our adult lives,” said Madeleine Noland, president of ATSC. “The folks who attend the trade shows, and our ecosystem in general, are getting more receptive to more facets of the ATSC 3.0 standard as the deployment gets closer. I think people are ready to learn more about what’s happening.”

And the ATSC-run panel will attempt to do just that, providing a deeper look into the weeds of what the standard offers users as compared to the 10,000- foot level that has been done in the past, Noland added. For this particular session, that will include specifics on content production and how to protect that content with ATSC 3.0.

A pair of other panels will also cover ATSC 3.0: “Investing In and Capitalizing on ATSC 3.0” on Wednesday, Oct. 16, and “ATSC Ad Targeting Update: Deployment Timetable and Monetization Potential” on Thursday, Oct. 17.

ACTIONABLE INTELLIGENCE ON STREAMING

Returning to NAB NY after its debut last year, the two-day Streaming Summit, Oct. 16-17, is another example of the show capitalizing on its New York setting, taking a look at some of the actual practices being put in place by broadcasters and ad agencies for streaming services.

“My goal … is to provide content where people can apply that information into their businesses immediately the next day—actionable intelligence,” Dan Rayburn, chairman of the Streaming Summit, described. “So we don’t have sessions on the future of OTT advertising; we don’t need to talk about the future, we need to talk about the problems that people are having today and how we solve them, how they monetize better, how they do better targeting and how they do better reach.”

One way that Rayburn plans to achieve this is by conducting focused “fireside chats” with vendors who faced and solved these problems themselves. This year will include talks with executives from WarnerMedia/HBO and Amazon, but will also look outside of the United States as, Rayburn emphasizes, many streaming services are now operating at a global scale.

The Streaming Summit will also offer networking sessions and co-host a day of workshops with Amazon featuring Amazon developers on “tricks of the trade” for deploying video. The Amazon workshops will be free for all show attendees.

One future-focused topic that the summit will address will center on millennials, in which five 20-somethings will take a look at how millennials consume videos—what they like, what they don’t like and what their friends are saying about their streaming options.

With more than 200 exhibitors setting up shop during NAB Show NY and an educational lineup that covers most of the pertinent issues facing the industry, attendees have the chance to not only catch up on the latest news and technologies, but also get a glimpse at what is coming down the road as the calendar year comes to an end. Also, with new features like the Pop-Up Marketplace and Theater, attendees can catch a glimpse at the offerings of brand-new exhibitors in different areas, including the “Startup Podcast,” Oct. 16 and “Podcasting Startup,” Oct. 17.
