NBC Sports debuts HD golf coverage
NBC Sports debuted its HD golf teleproduction May 27 with six hours of live coverage of the 67th Senior PGA Championship from Oak Tree Golf Club in Edmond, OK. USA Network provided early round coverage which was simulcast in high definition on UniversalHD.

NBC will present the majority of its golf broadcast coverage in high definition, including PGA Tour events, the U.S. Open and The Ryder Cup.


Waggoner present at C4-Sports Sports Media and Technology Conference
Microsoft Core Media Processing Technologies group senior program manager Ben Waggoner will presenting two sessions at the Sports Media and Technology Conference July 18-19 in Las Vegas.

The first session, "Encoding Sports for Mobile Devices," will examine the challenges of compressing sports content when targeting playback on mobile devices. His second session, "Advanced Compression Techniques for Sports Content," will discuss the opportunities in using compressed media for the distribution of sports.

The Score redesigns sports ticker gets
Canada’s Score Television Network's ticker has been redesigned to give sports fans more detailed information.

Since its 1997 launch, The Score has used an always-on ticker on the lower part of the TV screen a quick update on a game in-progress or the results of a previous night's event.

The next-generation ticker, which launched June 6 on The Score and The ScoreHD is faster, easier-to-read and shrinks during live events to provide a larger picture. In addition, the new ticker will add new features, including situational details on a sport-by-sport basis.


Sportal, blinks reach accord
Web site blinkx has entered into an agreement with broadband Internet sports site Sportal.com to index hundreds of Sportal's audio and video sports clips and make them fully searchable.

Sportal.com will provide blinkx with more than eight channels of sporting news featuring reports on rugby, golf, horse racing, extreme sports, championship poker, boxing, martial arts and the World Cup.

ESPN Deportes secures rights to domino tournaments
Spanish-language ESPN Deportes has reached an exclusive agreement with the International Domino Federation for television rights its annual World Domino Championship and national and regional tournaments in the Americas through 2011.


Something’s fishy at Fox College Sports
Fox College Sports will present the first-ever National Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship Oct. 19-21 from Lake Lewisville outside Dallas. FCS plans to televise 19 hours of coverage in prime time.
