German broadcaster turns to SysMedia for World Cup captioning

Using SysMedia’s WinCAPS subtitling system, German national public broadcaster ARD provided extensive subtitling for hearing-impaired viewers during its live coverage of the FIFA 2006 World Cup in Germany.

The extent and nature of the subtitling for the World Cup exceeded anything previously achieved for live broadcasts in the country. As well as live match coverage itself, subtitling was extended to include interviews, pre- and post-match analysis and background stories on ARD’s Das Erste channel.
