SBE to offer specialist certification in 8-VSB

The Society of Broadcast Engineers has announced that the 8-VSB will be the second in a series of specialist certifications.

At an April meeting of the SBE National Certification Committee, 8-VSB was identified for the next SBE specialist certification because of the ongoing progress in digital television and the importance of identifying qualified broadcast engineers who are critical to its implementation.

David Carr, director of engineering for Telemundo Arizona, will lead a subcommittee in creating the 8-VSB certification. The certification is expected by mid-October, when the society holds its annual national meeting in Dallas.

The first SBE specialist certification exams were administered during NAB2005 on the topic of maintaining AM directional antennas and will continue to be available.
