RRD names UDcast preferred IP encapsulator supplier for 3 Italia mobile TV

Systems integrator RRD has named UDcast its preferred IP encapsulator supplier for the headend of 3 Italia’s DVB-H-based mobile TV service.

The 3 Italia mobile TV network has garnered approximately 700,000 users in Italy since its launch in May 2006, according to recent reports by the operator. RRD, which hosts, operates and maintains DVB-H activity for the network, tapped UDcast because it was experiencing increased users and terminal usage for the service. It needed to support a large selection of terminals from different vendors, as well as be ready to scale the network to a large number of transmitter sites. It found UDcast to be the only vendor that could scale to these kinds of demands.
