WDR places largest order to date for Sony XDCAM

West German Radio (WDR), one of Europe’s largest television broadcasters, has placed the biggest order in the history of the new Sony XDCAM production system.

The order includes 127 PDW-530P camcorders, PDW-1500 193 recorders and PDW-V1 167 viewers.

WDR in Cologne began planning for the conversion to file-based video in mid-2003 and launched initial tests in April. In June, the administrative board of WDR made its final decision to purchase the XDCAM.
