Stagetec Aurus, Nexus to deliver audio for Swiss parliament

The Stagetec Aurus will be the centerpiece of audio production for the new media center used to cover the Swiss parliament in Bern.

Bundesmedienhaus, the new media center in Bern which will be used to cover the Swiss parliament, is under construction in a 19th century building complex close to the legislature.

Scheduled for completion in May 2006, the center will house modern workspace for journalists and a new central multimedia control room with a Stagetec Aurus/Nexus system.

The core of the new control room is an Aurus broadcast and production mixing console system with 32 channel strips, 80 audio channels, and 64 buses in a mainframe allowing the desk to be extended to 48 channel strips in the future. A star-topology network of nine Nexus base devices and a Nexus Star is used to route all audio signals between the plenary assembly hall, the CCR and the control room.

Broadcast audio must be made available in multiple languages, including German, Italian, French and Rhaeto-Romanic, which is spoken in Switzerland. Thus, a program feed mixed from the hall microphone signals will first be created using the Aurus.

The commentary voice-overs in the four languages will be added to the feed later. The four commentary signals are recorded directly to the audio tracks of the VTR, ensuring audio/video synchronicity for subsequent mix downs.
