Seattle Mariners rely on VenueVision Media, TV One

When the Seattle Mariners needed to integrate multiple video formats, advertising and live data feeds onto a single screen for distribution to their plasma TV network, they chose VenueVision Media Systems and TV One.

VenueVision, which provides HDTV broadcasting systems to professional sports teams, turned to TV One for its CORIO2 signal processing technology and its dual-channel signal processing capabilities.

The VenueVision HD system at Safeco Field in Seattle is used with a live 1920 x 1080i HDTV signal supplied by the team’s rights holders, NHK (Nippon Hoso Kyokai) and FSNW (Fox Sports Northwest).

An uncompressed (1.5Gb/s) HD-SDI signal is sent via a Telecast Fiber MTX5292 transmitter, using single-mode fiber-optic cable, from the outside broadcast (OB) van parked in the truck compound to the RF distribution room located within the ballpark. There it is decoded by a Telecast MRX5292 unit.

The reconstituted HD-SDI signal is fed to an input on a TV One C2-7200 dual-channel video processor along with an SD-SDI signal originated by the Mariners’ in-house production equipment and a DVI signal from VenueVision Media Systems’ HD equipment.

The C2-7200’s two output signals are used to develop Picture-in-Picture outputs from multiformat inputs as well as an SD-SDI signal, which is used as a backup for the primary HD-SDI feed. The resulting signals are distributed around the park as well as to the outside world. Both RF and baseband signals are distributed. High-quality MPEG baseband video signals are the norm for all but the least critical displays, which use decoded RF signals.
