Satellite HD distribution to take initial leadership position in Europe

By the end of 2008, HDTV will be in about 4.8 million European households, according to a new study. The figure represents a dramatic increase from European HD penetration, which stood at 50,000 households in 2003, according to the report.

The report, “High-definition in Europe” from market watcher Datamonitor, contends that while market acceptance of HD in Europe will progress at a relatively slow pace, content producers and providers, including production companies and broadcasters, must begin investing in the technology required to support the gradual changeover.
