IT, HD drive growth in European broadcast market, says report

The driving force behind the evolution of the European broadcast industry is the transition from analog production methods to digital IT-based workflows, according to a new study from Research and Markets.
According to the report, “The Broadcast Value Chain,” about 15 percent of European broadcasters now operate with fully digital workflows.
Additionally, there is a growing desire among European broadcasters for HD-capable software and hardware. Broadcasters will slowly begin to transmit HD content over the next three to five years and thus need HD capable equipment. Vendors indicate that almost 20 percent of new business requests seek HD compatible products.
Vendors that are focused on the growth areas of open standards IT equipment are expected to experience the biggest boom over the three- to five-year forecast period. Those tied to the analog era will suffer from a declining revenue opportunity in Europe.
