ESPN STAR Sports compresses with TANDBERG encoding

TANDBERG Television will provide the video compression headend equipment for ESPN STAR Sports’ (ESS) MPEG-4 AVC contribution and distribution system.

The headend will be used by the Asian sports broadcaster to distribute its programming to cable headends across Asia and to manage its satellite transponder usage.

TANDBERG’s MPEG-4 AVC EN8030 encoders will be used for video transport and backhaul transmissions. The equipment is being housed at ESS’ 73,000sq-ft production facility and earth station in Singapore.

New features of TANDBERG’s EN8030 include improved motion estimation processes, single slice video processing architecture and dedicated processing for low resolution encoding of picture-in-picture services.
