Arqiva provides HD SNG service for Italian opera uplinks

Arqiva is successfully delivering live HD opera performances from Italy and Spain to cinema audiences across Europe via HD satellite newsgathering trucks working out of the company’s Rome facility.

The company, which is working with DDCinema, has distributed three performances, including "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" from La Fenice theater in Venice, "L’Orfeo" from the Teatro Real de Madrid and "Samson and Delilah" from the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, which was viewed by audiences in nearly 70 cinemas in Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Poland, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Arqiva is uplinking the operas onto 27MHz of bandwidth on the Eutelsat AB3 satellite. The company also is providing HD technical support and assistance with test transmissions. At least three more HD events will be distributed by Arqiva in 2008.
