New York Jets tackle training video with Panasonic 1080p camcorders
The broadcasting and multimedia production department of the New York Jets recently purchased two AJ-HPX3000 native 1080p one-piece camcorders, along with P2 drives and media. All of the gear will serve a new post-production facility located at the Jets’ Florham Park, NJ, headquarters and training center.
Jets personnel have been shooting with the HPX3000 camcorders since the preseason. Once the team’s post-production facility is fully operational in early 2009, the chief role of the cameras will be to produce multipurpose broadcast programming. In the interim, the production team has been shooting a variety of nonbroadcast material to be displayed inside the team’s training center.
The selection of the HPX3000 was based on the high quality of its HD imaging, its versatility with a range of shooting styles (games, training camp, interviews, events, closed sets, commercials, etc.) and its solid-state ruggedness. The camcorder has proven impervious to travel, heat, humidity, salt, air and sand.
The camcorders are used for handheld (games, camps, events) as well as on platforms and tripods to shoot interviews. The camcorders are equipped with Canon KJ21ex7.6B IRSE portable HD production lenses.
With three 2/3in, high-density 2.2-megapixel CCDs, the HPX3000 captures images in full-raster 1920 x 1080 resolution with 4:2:2 10-bit sampling using the AVC-Intra codec. The HPX3000 offers advanced gamma settings, including film-rec mode (made popular by the VariCam).
