SMPTE/VSF Conference to feature video-over-IP interoperability test
1/25/2006

SMPTE and the VSF will host an eight-vendor live interoperability demonstration Jan. 29 through Feb. 1 at the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood, CA.

The test will highlight interoperation of vendors supporting broadcast contribution video signals over IP networks, including the ability to survive errors and other network impairments.

Eight MPEG equipment manufacturers, including Aastra Digital Video, BT, Path1, Sencore, TANDBERG Television, Grass Valley, Tut Systems and T-VIPS, will interconnect their equipment to determine interoperability of units that are designed to meet the Pro-MPEG Forum’s Code of Practice 3 Release 2 (CoP3 R2).

Connections will be made through a network with impairments, such as bit errors and groups of contiguous lost packets that are deliberately injected into each stream to test each system’s ability to recover from the errors, as specified in CoP3 R2. An independent panel will judge results of the testing during the conference, and results will subsequently be published.
