Canada: CBC Streams HD Content on iTunes
9/2/2009

While it's true that a lot of content on Canadian TV is standard American fare and popular series in the U.S. are usually also popular with its northern neighbor (not to mention a lot of American shows often feature native Canadians such as William Shatner, Mike Myers and Alex Trebek, to name a few) — the CBC is required to air a minimum amount of original Canadian content. Several of those native shows have now begun showing up in HD on iTunes.

"The Tudors" and "Being Erica" both recently nominated for Canada's equivalent of the Emmy, represent the first regular content to be made available online in HD from a Canadian network, according to the CBC. (As is often the case in America, as well, both Canadian series already have been available on iTunes in SD.) The HD content is going for $3 an episode.

HD shows first began to appear on iTunes last spring in the form of "Lost" and "24," along with other American series. The CBC also streams some of its original shows on its Web site, although not yet in HD.
