HALF MOON BAY, CALIF.: GoPro, a Northern California maker of wearable digital video cameras, has unveiled a 1080p version of its Hero Wide helmetcam. The HD Hero Wide debuted at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market show in Salt Lake City this week, according to Helmet Camera Central, which calls it the first full HD, 1080p helmetcam. The HD Hero captures in 1080p/30 frames per second at 12 Mbps; 960p/30fps at 10 Mbps; 720p/30fps at 7.5 Mbps and 720p/60fps at 15 Mbps for slow motion. It’s powered by a rechargeable Li-ion pack that renders two to three hours of recording time in MPEG-4. HCC said it will be priced at $299.

GoPro makes a variety of mountable cameras for sports capture, including the Surf Hero, featured on the company Web site in use by John John Florence, getting shacked by a wave on Hawaii’s North Shore.
