EU Offers to Pay Peru to adopt DVB Terrestrial DTV Standard
4/10/2009

RF Report has been covering the struggle to define a terrestrial DTV standard for Peru. While recent reports indicated Brazil's SBTVD—an enhanced version of Japan's ISDB-T standard—was the front runner, proponents of other systems are not giving up.

According to an article by Israel Ruiz on the Web site LivingInPeru.com, José Manuel Durão Barroso, the current president of the European Commission, offered Peru €500,000 if Peru decided to implement the DVB-T standard instead of the Japanese-Brazilian SBTVD one.

LivingInPeru.com quotes a letter from Barroso explaining DVB-T will "demonstrate to Peruvian people the benefits of digital television, including its mobile version and interactive applications thanks to Europe's experience in this field."
