Several broadcasters in Kansas have agreed to carry the local high school football championship, according to the Kansas City Star. The state's High School Activities Association said it worked out a plan to televise the games next year in four markets.

The seven stations agreeing to carry the games include KWCH-TV, the CBS affiliate in Wichita, owned by Schurz Communications, and its sister CW affiliate, KWCW-TV; KCTV-TV, the CBS afil in Kansas City, and sister station KSMO-TV, an MNTV station, both owned by Meredith Corp.; ABC affiliate KTKA-TV in Topeka, owned by Free State Communications; and KOAM-TV and KFJK-TV, the CBS and Fox affiliates respectively in the Pittsburg/Joplin, Mo., market, both operated by Saga Communications.

The association's executive director, Gary Musselman, said the goal is to telecast two of the state championship football games, as well as one boys' and one girls' basketball game from the state finals. The plan could involve making the games available online for a fee after the fact. The group is also hoping to get air time for features and public service announcements created by students.
