Chile Reviewing Terrestrial DTV Test Results
8/8/2008

Michelle Bachelet, president of Chile, has received the results of the country’s digital terrestrial television tests, according to iProfessional.com.

The tests compared different DTV standards, including DVB-T, ATSC and the Brazilian version of ISDB-T. According to the article, Bachelet met with government officials in charge of setting the DTV standard. A government spokesman said that the group would take as long as needed to review and revise the standard, noting that it would affect television in the country for the next 40 to 50 years.

Chile’s three cellular operators want to be allocated UHF frequencies for DVB-H service even if ATSC, the standard favored by broadcasters, is chosen as the broadcast standard. Chile’s telecommunications laws will have to be modified to allow broadcasters to transmit on a second channel. The Undersecretary of Telecommunications of Chile said the country plans to open a contest for DTV UHF channels.   Print Page
