Official Olympic Documentary Shot in HD
2/28/2002

Sports historian Bud Greenspan and his company, Cappy Productions, shot his seventh Olympic documentary, for the first time in HD, using Panasonic equipment.

Eight crews used Panasonic AJ-HDC27 VariCam HD cameras to shoot footage of the Games. The crews acquired exclusive footage for a documentary designed to show the positive, human side of the competitors in the Salt Lake Games, focusing on athletes that mainstream media coverage missed. The documentary premiered in Salt Lake City, and will be distributed around the world. The Showtime cable network will air the documentary in Fall 2002.

The AJ-HDC27 Varicam DVCPRO HD camcorder offers 60-frame-per-second capture for high-speed action and 24-frame-per-second, progressive-scan capture for film-style images. The variable frame rates capabilities allow users to overcrank and undercrank the camera to achieve fast or slow-motion effects. Panasonic AJ-HD130 DVCPRO HD VTRs and AJ-HD150 VTRs were also used in the production.   Print Page
