CyberLink, Hauppauge to Offer HD DVB-S2 Access on PCs
6/22/2006

CyberLink Corp. is teaming with tuner card manufacturer Hauppauge Digital to create software/hardware to support HD DVB-S2 viewing, recording and playback on personal computers. The joint project joins CyberLink's PowerCinema software with Hauppauge's WinTV-HVR-4000 TV tuner card.

Both firms said in a statement the configuration allows the reception, recording and playback of MPEG-2 HD and higher compressed MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) content via satellite on a PC. Cyberlink said the setup permits smooth channel switching through the "dynamic recognition" of both HD and SD, and time-shift recording in MPEG-2 and H.264. The scheme also recognizes satellite signals over North America and Western Europe.

The system is backward-compatible, CyberLink said, with DVB-SI, EPG and Teletext (Europe). Hauppauge and CyberLink plan to start shipments this fall.   Print Page
