CBS Sports to Broadcast PGA Championship in HD
8/10/2005

CBS Sports will broadcast the PGA Championship in HD for the second year with extensive 18 hole-coverage of the third and final rounds this weekend, live from Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J. CBS, which uses 1080i and 5.1 surround sound, will have two unified productions for its SD and HD telecasts--featuring the same announcers, camera angles, replays and graphics.

In the upcoming television season, CBS Sports will broadcast 32 weekends of programming in HD. (CBS coverage of the 2000 Masters was the first golf tournament ever presented live in HD on network television.) For the last six years, CBS has aired HD productions of the NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four and Championship Games, the Masters Tournament, college football and the U.S. Open Tennis Championships.

In prime time, late-night and weekends during the new season which begins on some networks next month, CBS will broadcast an average of 30 HD hours per week of HD. Five of those new hours will be the "Late Show with David Letterman," which plans to go HD on the night of Labor Day, Sept. 5.
