NXP Announces New Terrestrial and Satellite Multi-Band Tuner
1/25/2008

NXP Semiconductors, an independent semiconductor company founded by Philips launched what it called "the world's first multi-band silicon tuner." The TDA18292 supports DVB-T, DVB-H, DVB-SH, T-DMB and ISDB-T in five frequency bands: VHF, UHF, L1, L2 and S-band.

While ATSC was not listed as one of the supported formats, I don't see why the tuner wouldn't work with appropriate ATSC demodulators, as it supports 6 MHz channel bandwidths, as well as 1.5, 5, 7 and 8 MHz bandwidths. The specified sensitivity is excellent, with a noise figure of less than 3 dB.

The device is designed for use in portable, mobile and hand-held devices, including notebook computers, USB sticks, portable media players, portable DVD players, mobile phones and GPS navigation systems.

Cost is less than $2 in large quantities. For more information, refer to the TDA18292 news release.
