3G Wireless Turns to Nucomm for America’s Cup Coverage
8/10/2007

Microwave systems supplier Nucomm Inc. reported that more than 100 television networks around the world successfully delivered 2,500 hours worth of live coverage of the 32nd America’s Cup, anchored by Nucomm’s digital microwave systems. The systems were contracted by the world feed host, 3G Wireless LLC, which transmitted coverage of the July 3 event to viewers in 150 countries.

“The biggest technological advantage in using the Nucomm transmitters was that they were packaged with the Nucomm four-way diversity input receivers, which allowed us to secure a much higher coverage percentage in terms of reliability and reception,” said 3G Wireless president Greg Robinson of Nucomm’s debut as the exclusive equipment provider for the event.

In covering the two race courses, 3G Wireless installed 25 Nucomm Campac2 transmitters over land and sea. The configuration included installation in two helicopters, two chase boats, 12 yachts and three Rubber Inflatable Boats (RIBs). In addition, there were two handheld cameras and one wireless model. All 25 signals were delivered in a multichannel environment, much of it over water, without any interference.   Print Page
